apohaḥ śabdārtho nirucyate | nanu ko'yamapoho nāma | kimidamanyasmādapohyate | asmād vānyadapohyate | asmin vānyadapohyata iti vyutpattyā vijātivyāvṛttaṃ bāhyameva vivakṣitam | buddhyākāro vā | yadi vā apohanamapoha ityanyavyāvṛttimātram iti trayaḥ pakṣāḥ |
na tāvadādimau pakṣau | apohanāmnā vidhereva vivakṣitatvāt | antimo'pyasaṃgataḥ, pratītibādhitatvāt | tathā hi parvatoddeśe vahnirastīti śābdī pratītirvidhirūpamevollikhantī lakṣyate | nānagnirna bhavatīti nitrṛttimātramāmukhayantī | yacca pratyakṣabādhitaṃ na tatra sādhanāntarāvakāśaḥ ityatiprasiddham ||
atha yadyapi nivṛttimahaṃ pratyemīti na vikalpaḥ tathāpi nivṛttapadārthollekha eva nivṛttyullekhaḥ | na hyanantarbhāvitaviśeṣaṇapratītirviśiṣṭapratītiḥ | tato yathā sāmānyamahaṃ pratyemīti vikalpābhāve'pi sādhāraṇākāraparisphuraṇād vikalpabuddhiḥ sāmānyabuddhiḥ pareṣām, tathā nivṛttapratyayākṣiptā nivṛtibuddhirapohapratītivyavahāramātanotīti cet |
nanu sādhāraṇākāraparisphuraṇe vidhirūpatayā yadi sāmānyabodhavyavasthā, tat kimāyātamasphuradabhāvākāre cetasi nivṛttipratītivyavasthāyāḥ | tato nivṛttimahaṃ pratyemītyevamākārābhāve'pi nivṛttyākārasphuraṇaṃ yadi syāt ko nāma nivṛttipratītisthitimapalapet | anyathā asati pratibhāse tatpratītivyavahṛtiriti gavākāre'pi cetasi turagabodha ityastu |
atha viśeṣaṇatayā antarbhūtā nivṛttipratītirityuktam | tathāpi yadyagavāpoḍha itīdṛśākāro vikalpastadā viśeṣaṇatayā tadanupraveśo bhavatu kiṃ tu gauriti pratītiḥ | tadā ca sato'pi nivṛttilakṣaṇasya viśeṣaṇasya tatrānutkalanāt kathaṃ tatpratītivyavasthā |
athaivaṃ matiḥ- yad vidhirūpaṃ sphurati tasya parāpoho'pyastīti tatpratītirucyate | tadāpi sambandhamātramapohasya | vidhireva sākṣānnirbhāsī | apicaivamadhyakṣasyāpyapohaviṣayatvamanivāryam viśeṣato vikalpādekavyāvṛttollekhino'khilānyavyāvṛttamīkṣamāṇasya | tasmādvidhyākārāvagrahādadhyakṣavad vikalpasyāpi vidhiviṣayatvameva nānyāpohaviṣayatvamiti kathamapohaḥ śabdārtho ghuṣyate |
atrābhidhīyate | nāsmābhirapohaśabdena vidhireva kevalo'bhipretaḥ | nāpyanyavyāvṛttimātram | kintvanyāpohaviśiṣṭo vidhiḥ śabdānāmarthaḥ | tataśca na pratyekapakṣopanipātidoṣāvakāśaḥ ||
yattu goḥ pratītau na tadātmāparātmeti sāmarthyādapohaḥ paścānniścīyata iti vidhivādināṃ matam, anyāpohapratītau vā sāmarthyādanyāpoḍho'vadhāryate iti pratiṣedhavādināṃ matam | tadasundaram | prāthamikasyāpi pratipatti kramādarśanāt | na hi vidhiṃ pratipadya kaścidarthāpattitaḥ paścādapohamavagacchati | apohaṃ vā pratipadyānyāpoḍham | tasmād goḥ pratipattirityanyāpoḍhapratipattirucyate | yadyapi cānyāpoḍhaśabdānullekha uktastathāpi nāpratipattireva viśeṣaṇabhūtasyānyāpohasya | agavāpoḍha eva gośabdasya niveśitatvāt | yathā nīlotpale niveśitādindīvaraśabdānnīlotpalapratītau tatkāla eva nīlimasphuraṇamanivāryaṃ tathā gośabdādapyagavāpoḍhe niveśitād gopratītau tulyakālameva viśeṣaṇatvādago'pohasphuraṇamanivāryam | yathā pratyakṣasya prasajyarūpābhāvāgrahaṇamabhāvavikalpotpādanaśaktireva tathā vidhivikalpānāmapi tadanurūpānuṣṭhānadānaśaktirevābhāvagrahaṇamabhidhīyate | paryudāsarūpābhāvagrahaṇaṃ tu niyatasvarūpasaṃvedanamubhayoraviśiṣṭam | anyathā yadi śabdādarthapratipattikāle kalito na parāpohaḥ kathamanyaparihāreṇa pravṛttiḥ | tato gāṃ badhāneti codito'śvādīnapi badhnīyāt ||
yadapyavocad vācaspatiḥ jātimatyo vyaktayo vikalpānāṃ śabdānāṃ ca gocaraḥ | tāsāṃ ca tadvatīnāṃ rūpamatajjātīyaparāvṛttamityatastadavagaterna gāṃ badhāneti codito'śvādīn badhnāti | tadapyanenaiva nirastam | yato jāteradhikāyāḥ prakṣepe'pi vyaktīnāṃ rūpamatajjātīyaparāvṛttameva cet, tadā tenaiva rūpeṇa śabdavikalpayorviṣayībhavantīnāṃ kathamatadvayāvṛttiparihāraḥ ||
atha na vijātīyavyāvṝttaṃ vyaktirūpaṃ tathāpratītaṃ vā tadā jātiprasāda eṣa iti kathamarthato'pi tadavagatirityuktaprāyam |
atha jātibalādevānyatovyāvṛtam | bhavatu jātibalāt svahetuparamparābalād vānyavyāvṛtam | ubhayathāpi vyāvṛttapratipatau vyāvṛttipratipattirastyeva |
na cāgavāpoḍhe gośabdasaṅketavidhāvanyīnyāśrayadoṣaḥ | sāmānye tadvati vā saṃkete'pi taddoṣāvakāśāt | na hi sāmānyaṃ nāma sāmānyamātramabhipretam, turage'pi gośabdasaṃketaprasaṅgāt | kiṃ tu gotvam | tāvatā ca sa eva doṣaḥ | gavādiparijñāne gotvasāmānyāparijñānāt | gotvasāmānyāparijñāne gośabdavācyā parijñānāt |
tasmādekapiṇḍadarśanapūrvako yaḥ sarvavyaktisādhāraṇa iva bahiraghyasto vikalpabuddhyākāraḥ tatrāyaṃ gauriti saṃketakaraṇe netaretarāśrayadoṣaḥ |
abhimate ca gośabdapravṛttāvagośabdena śeṣasyāpyabhidhānamucitam | na cānyāpoḍhānyāpohayorvirodho viśeṣyaviśeṣaṇabhāvakṣatirvā, parasparavyavacchedābhāvāt | sāmānādhikaraṇyasadbhāvāt | bhūtalaghaṭābhāvavat |svābhāvena hi virodho na parābhāvenetyābālaprasiddham | eṣa panthāḥ śrughnamupatiṣṭhata ityatrāpyapoho gamyata eva | aprakṛtapathāntarāpekṣayā eṣa eva śrudhnapratyanīkāniṣṭasthānāpekṣayā śrughnameva | araṇyamārgavad vicchedābhāvādupatiṣṭhata eva | sārthadūtādivyavacchedena panthā eveti pratipadaṃ vyavacchedasya sulabhatvāt | tasmādapohadharmaṇo vidhirūpasya śabdādavagatiḥ puṇḍarīkaśabdādiva śvetimaviśiṣṭasya padmasya ||
yadyevaṃ vidhireva śabdārtho vaktumucitaḥ, kathamapoho gīyata iti cet | uktamatrāpohaśabdenānyāpohaviśiṣṭo vidhirucyate | tatra vidhau pratīyamāne viśeṣaṇatayā tulyakālamanyāpohapratītiriti |
na caiva pratyakṣasyāpyapohaviṣayatvavyavasthā kartamucitā |tasya śābdapratyayasyeva vastuviṣayatve vivādābhāvāt | vidhiśabdena ca yathādhyavasāyamatadrūpaparāvṛtto bāhyo'rthobhimataḥ, yathāpratibhāsaṃ buddhyākāraśca | tatra bāhyo'rtho'dhyavasāyādeva śabdavācyo vyavasthāpyate | na svalakṣaṇaparisphūrtyā | pratyakṣavaddeśakālāvasthāniyatapravyaktasvalakṣaṇāsphuraṇāt | yacchāstram
śabdenāvyāpṛtākṣasya buddhāvapratibhāsanāt |
arthasya dṛṣṭāviva
iti | indriyaśabdasvabhāvopāyabhedādekasyaivārthasya pratibhāsabheda iti cet | atrāpyuktam -
jāto nāmāśrayonyānyaḥ cetasāṃ tasya vastutaḥ |
ekasyaiva kuto rūpaṃ bhinnākārāvabhāsi tat ||
na hi spaṣṭāspaṣṭe dve rūpe parasparaviruddhe ekasya vastunaḥ staḥ | yata ekenendriyabuddhau pratibhāsetānyena vikalpe | tathā sati vastuna eva bhedaprāpteḥ | na hi svarūpabhedādaparo vastubhedaḥ | na ca pratibhāsabhedādaparaḥ svarūpabhedaḥ | anyathā trailokyamekameva vastu syāt ||
dūrāsannadeśavartinoḥ puruṣayorekatra śākhini spaṣṭāspaṣṭapratibhāsabhede'pi na śākhibheda iti cet | na brūmaḥ pratibhāsabhedo bhinnavastuniyataḥ, kiṃ tvekaviṣayatvābhāvaniyata iti | tato yatrārthakriyābhedādisacivaḥ pratibhāsabhedastatra vastubhedaḥ, ghaṭavat | anyatra punarniyamenaikaviṣayatāṃ pariharatītyekapratibhāso bhrāntaḥ ||
etena yadāha vācaspatiḥ - na ca śābdapratyakṣayorvastugocaratve pratyayābhedaḥ kāraṇabhedena pārokṣyāpārokṣyabhedopapatteriti, tannopayogi | parokṣapratyayasya vastugocaratvāsamarthatāt | parokṣatāśrayastu kāraṇabheda indriyagocaragrahaṇaviraheṇaiva kṛtārthaḥ | tanna | śābde pratyaye svalakṣaṇaṃ parisphurati | kiṃ ca svalakṣaṇātmani vastuni vācye sarvātmanā pratipatteḥ vidhiniṣedhayorayogaḥ | tasya hi sadbhāve'stīti vyartham, nāstītyasamartham | asadbhāve tu nāstīti vyartham, astītyasamartham | asti cāstyādipadaprayogaḥ | tasmāt śābdapratibhāsasya bāhyārthabhāvābhāvasādhāraṇyaṃ na tadviṣayatāṃ kṣamate ||
yacca vācaspatinā jātimadvyaktivācyatāṃ svavācaiva prastutyāntarameva na ca śabdārthasya jāterbhāvābhāvasādhāraṇyaṃ nopapadyate | sā hi svarūpato nityāpi deśakālaviprakīrṇānekavyaktyāśrayatayā bhāvābhāvasādhāraṇībhavantyastināstisaṃbandhayogyā | vartamānavyaktisaṃbandhitā hi jāterastitā | atītānāgatavyaktisaṃbandhitā ca nāstiteti sandigdhavyatirekitvādanaikāntikaṃ bhāvābhāvasādhāraṇyam, anyathāsiddhaṃ veti vikalpitam | tadaprastutam | tāvatā tāvanna prakṛtakṣatiḥ | jātau bharaṃ nyasyatā svalakṣaṇavācyatvasya svayaṃ svīkārāt | kiṃ ca sarvatra padārthasyasvalakṣaṇasvarūpeṇaivāstitvādikaṃ cintyate | jātestu vartamānādivyaktisaṃvadhī'stitvādikamiti tu bālapratāraṇam | evaṃ jātimadvyaktivacane'pi doṣaḥ | vyakteścet pratītisiddhiḥ jātiradhikā pratīyatāṃ mā vā, na tu vyaktipratītidoṣānmuktiḥ |
etena yaducyate kaumārilaiḥ sabhāgatvādeva vastuno na sādhāraṇyadoṣaḥ | vṛkṣatvaṃ hyanirdhāritabhāvābhāvaṃ śabdādavagamyate | tayoranyatareṇa śabdāntarāvagatena saṃbadhyata iti | tadapyasaṅgatam | sāmānyasya nityasya pratipattābanirdhāritabhāvābhāvatvāyogāt |
yaccedam - na ca pratyakṣasyeva śabdānāmarthapratyāyanaprakāro yena taddṛṣṭa ivāstyādiśabdāpekṣā na syāt, vicitraśaktitvāt pramāṇānāmiti | tadapyaindriyakaśābdapratibhāsayorekasvarūpagrāhitve bhinnāvabhāsadūṣaṇena dūṣitam | vicitraśaktitvaṃ ca pramāṇānāṃ sākṣātkārādhyavasāyābhyāmapi caritārtham | tato yadi pratyakṣārthapratipādanaṃ śābdena tadvadevāvabhāsaḥ syāt | abhavaṃśva na tadviṣayakhyāpanaṃ kṣamate ||
nanu vṛkṣaśabdena vṛkṣatvāṃśe codite sattvādyaṃśaniścayanārthamastyādipadaprayoga iti cet |
niraṃśatvena pratyakṣasamadhigatasya svalakṣaṇasya ko'vakāśaḥ padāntareṇa | dharmāntaravidhiniṣedhayoḥ pramāṇāntareṇa vā | pratyakṣe'pi pramāṇāntarāpekṣā dṛṣṭeti cet | bhavatu tasyāniścayātmakatvādanabhyastasvarūpaviṣaye | vikalpastu svayaṃ niścayātmako yatra grāhī tatra kimapareṇa | asti ca śabdaliṅgāntarāpekṣā | tato na vastusvarūpagrahaḥ ||
nanu bhinnā jātyādayo dharmāḥ parasparaṃ dharmiṇaśceti jātilakṣaṇaikadharmadvāreṇa pratīte'pi śākhini dharmāntaravattayā na pratītiriti kiṃ na bhinnābhidhānādhīno dharmāntarasya nīlacaloccaistaratvāderavabodhaḥ | tadetadasaṅgatam | akhaṇḍātmanaḥ svalakṣaṇasya pratyakṣe'pi pratibhāsāt | dṛśyasya dharmadharmibhedasya pratyakṣapratikṣiptatvāt | anyathā sarvaṃ sarvatra syādityatiprasaṅgaḥ | kālpanikabhedāśrayastu dharmadharmivyavahāra iti prasādhitaṃ śāstre |
bhavatu vā pāramārthiko'pi dharmadharmibhedaḥ | tathāpyanayoḥ samavāyāderdūṣitatvādupakāralakṣaṇaiva pratyāsattireṣitavyā | evaṃ ca yathendriyapratyāsattyā pratyakṣeṇa dharmipratipattau sakalataddharmapratipattistathā śabdaliṅgābhyāmapi vācyavācakādisaṃbandhapratibaddhābhyāṃ dharmipratipattau niravaśeṣataddharmapratipattirbhavet | pratyāsatimātrasyāviśeṣāt ||
yacca vācaspati, na caikopādhinā sattvena viśiṣṭe tasmin gṛhīte upādhyantaraviśiṣṭastadgrahaḥ | svabhāvo hi dravyasyopādhibhirviśiṣyate | na tūpādhayo vā viśeṣyatvaṃ vā tasya svabhāva iti | tadapi plavata eva | na hyabhedādupādhyantaragrahaṇamāsañjitam | bhedaṃ puraskṛtyaivopakārakagrahaṇe upakāryagrahaṇaprasañjanāt | na cāgnidhūmayoḥ kāryakāraṇabhāva iva svabhāvata eva dharmadharmiṇoḥ pratipattiniyamakalpanamucitam | tayorapi pramāṇāsiddhatvāt | pramāṇasiddhe ca svabhāvopavarṇanamiti nyāyaḥ ||
yaccātra nyāyabhūṣaṇena sūryādigrahaṇe tadupakāryāśeṣavasturāśigrahaṇaprasañjanamuktam, tadabhiprāyānavagāhanaphalam | tathā hi tvanmate dharmadharmiṇorbhedaḥ, upakāralakṣaṇaiva ca pratyāsattistadopakārakagrahaṇe samānadeśasyaiva dharmarūpasyaiva copakāryasya grahaṇamāsañjitam | tatkathaṃ sūryopakāryasya bhinnadeśasya dravyāntarasya vā dṛṣṭavyabhicārasya grahaṇaprasaṅgaḥ saṅgataḥ | tasmādekadharmadvāreṇāpi vastusvarūpapratipattau sarvātmapratīteḥ kva śabdāntareṇa vidhiniṣedhāvakāśaḥ | asti ca | tasmānna svalakṣaṇasya śabdavikalpaliṅgapratibhāsitvamiti sthitam ||
nāpi sāmānyaṃ śābdapratyayapratibhāsi | saritaḥ pāre gāvaścarantīti gavādiśabdāt sāsnāśṛṅgalāṅgūlādayo'kṣarākāraparikaritāḥ sajātīyabhedāparāmarśanāt sampiṇḍitaprāyāḥ pratibhāsante | na ca tadeva sāmānyam |
varṇākṛtyakṣarākāraśūnyaṃ gotvaṃ hi kathyate |
tadeva ca sāsnāśṛṅgādimātramakhilavyaktāvatyantavilakṣaṇamapi svalakṣaṇenaikīkriyamāṇaṃ sāmānyamityucyate tādṛśasya bāhyasyāprāpterbhrāntirevāsau keśapratibhāsavat | tasmād vāsanāvaśād buddhereva tadātmanā vivarto'yamastu | asadeva vā tadrupaṃ khyātu | vyaktaya eva vā svajātīyabhedatiraskāreṇānyathā bhāsantāmanubhavavyavadhānāt smṛtipramoṣo vābhidhīyatām | sarvathā nirviṣayaḥ khalvayaṃ sāmānyapratyayaḥ | kva sāmānyavārtā |
yat punaḥ sāmānyābhāve sāmānyapratyayasyākasmikatvamuktaṃ tadayuktam | yataḥ pūrvapiṇḍadarśanasmaraṇasahakāriṇātiricyamānaviśeṣapratyayajanikā sāmagrī nirviṣayaṃ sāmānyavikalpamutpādayati | tadevaṃ na śābde pratyaye jātiḥ pratibhāti | nāpi pratyakṣe | na cānumānato'pi siddhiḥ | adṛśyatve pratibaddhaliṅgādarśanāt | nāpondriyavadasyāḥ siddhiḥ jñānakāryataḥ kādācitkasyaiva nimittāntarasya siddheḥ | yadā piṇḍāntare antarāle vā gobuddherabhāvaṃ darśayet tadā śāvaleyādisakalagopiṇḍānāmevābhāvādabhāvo gobuddherupapadyamānaḥ kathamarthāntaramākṣipet | atha gotvādeva gopiṇḍaḥ | anyathā turago'pi gopiṇḍaḥ syāt | yadyevaṃ gopiṇḍādeva gotvamanyathā turagatvamapi gotvaṃ syāt | tasmāt kāraṇaparamparāta eva gopiṇḍo gotvaṃ tu bhavatu mā vā | nanu sāmānyapratyayajananasāmarthyaṃ yadyekasmāt piṇḍādabhinnaṃ tadā vijātīyavyāvṝttaṃ piṇḍāntaramasamartham | atha bhinnam, tadā tadeva sāmānyam, nāmni paraṃ vivāda iti cet | abhinnaiva sā śaktiḥ prativastu | yathā tvekaḥ śaktasvabhāvo bhāvastathānyo'pi bhavan kīdṛśaṃ doṣamāvahati | yathā bhavatāṃ jātirekāpi samānadhvaniprasavahetuḥ , anyāpi svarūpeṇaiva jātyantaranirapekṣā, tathāsmākaṃ vyaktirapi jātinirapekṣā svarūpeṇaiva bhinnā hetuḥ ||
yattu trilocanaḥ -aśvatvagotvādīnāṃ sāmānyaviśeṣāṇāṃ svāśraye samavāyaḥ sāmānyaṃ sāmānyamityabhidhānapratyayayornimittamiti | yadyevaṃ
vyaktiṣvapyayameva tathābhidhānapratyayaheturastu, kiṃ sāmānyasvīkārapramādena | na ca samavāyaḥ saṃbhavī |
iheti buddheḥ samavāyasiddhi-
riheti dhīśca dvayadarśanena |
na ca kvacit tadviṣaye tvapekṣā
svakalpanāmātramato'bhyupāyaḥ ||
etena seyaṃ pratyayānuvṛttiranuvṛttavastvanuyāyinī kathamatyantabhedinīṣu vyaktiṣu vyāvṛttaviṣayapratyayabhāvānupātinīṣu bhavitumarhatītyūhāpravartanamasya pratyākhyātam | jātiṣveva parasparavyāvṛttatayā vyaktīyamānāsvanuvṛttapratyayena vyabhicārāt |
yat punaranena viparyaye bādhakamuktam, abhidhānapratyayānuvṛttiḥ kutaścinnivṛttya kvacideva bhavantī nimittavatī, na cānyannimittamityādi | tanna samyak | anuvṛttamantareṇāpyabhidhānapratyayānuvṛtteratadrūpaparāvṛttasvarūpaviśeṣādavaśyaṃ svīkārasya sādhitatvāt | tasmāt -
tulye bhede yayā jātiḥ pratyāsattyā prasarpati |
kvacinnānyatra saivāstu śabdajñānanibandhanam ||
yat punaratra nyāyabhūṣaṇoktaṃ na hyevaṃ bhavati, yayā pratyāsattyā daṇḍasūtrādikaṃ prasarpati kvacinnānyatra saiva pratyāsattiḥ puruṣasphaṭikādiṣu daṇḍisūtritvādivyavahāranibandhanamastu, kiṃ daṇḍasūtrādineti | tadasaṅgatam | daṇḍasūtrayorhi puruṣasphaṭikapratyāsannayoḥ dṛṣṭayo daṇḍisūtritva pratyayahetutvaṃ nāpalapyate |sāmānyaṃ tu svapne'pi na dṛṣṭam | tad yadīdaṃ parikalpanīyaṃ tadā varaṃ pratyāsattireva sāmānyapratyayahetuḥ parikalpyatām, kiṃ gurvyā parikalpanayetyabhiprāyāparijñānāt |
athedaṃ jātiprasādhakamanumānamabhidhīyate | yadviśiṣṭajñānaṃ tadviśeṣaṇagrahaṇanāntarīyakam | yathā daṇḍijñānam | viśiṣṭajñānaṃ cedaṃ gaurayamityarthataḥ kāryahetuḥ | viśeṣaṇānubhavakāryaṃ hi dṛṣṭānte viśiṣṭabuddhiḥ siddheti | atrānuyogaḥ | viśiṣṭabuddherbhinnaviśeṣaṇagrahaṇanāntarīyakatvaṃ vā sādhyaṃ viśeṣaṇamātrānubhavanāntarīyakatvaṃ vā |
prathamapakṣe pakṣasya pratyakṣabādhā sādhanāvadhānamanavakāśayati, vastugrāhiṇaḥ pratyakṣasyobhayapratibhāsābhāvāt | viśiṣṭabuddhitvaṃ ca sāmānyaheturanaikāntikaḥ, bhinnaviśeṣaṇagrahaṇamantareṇāpi darśanāt | yathā svarūpavān ghaṭaḥ, gotvaṃ sāmānyamiti vā |
dvitīyapakṣe tu siddhasādhanam | svarūpavān ghaṭa ityādivat gotvajātimān piṇḍa iti parikalpitaṃ bhedamupādāya viśeṣaṇaviśeṣyabhāvasyeṣṭatvādagovyāvṛttānubhavabhāvitvād gaurayamiti vyavahārasya | tadevaṃ na sāmānyasiddhiḥ | bādhakaṃ ca sāmānyaguṇakarmādyupādhicakrasya kevalavyaktigrāhakaṃ paṭupratyakṣaṃ dṛśyānupalambho vā prasiddhaḥ |
tadevaṃ vidhireva śabdārthaḥ | sa ca bāhyo'rtho buddhyākāraśca vivakṣitaḥ | tatra na buddhyākārasya tattvataḥ saṃvṛtyā vā vidhiniṣedhau, svasaṃvedanapratyakṣagamyatvāt | anadhyavasāyācca | nāpi tattvato bāhyasyāpi vidhiniṣedhau, tasya śābde pratyayepratibhāsanāt | ata eva sarvadharmāṇāṃ tattvato'nabhilāpyatvaṃ pratibhāsādhyavasāyābhāvāt | tasmād bāhyasyaiva sāṃvṛtau vidhiniṣedhau | anyathā saṃvyavahārahāniprasaṅgāt | tadevaṃ
nākārasya na bāhyasya tattvato vidhisādhanam |
bahireva hi saṃvṛtyā saṃvṛtyāpi tu nākṛteḥ ||
etena yad dharmottaraḥ āropitasya bāhyatvasya vidhiniṣedhāvityalaukikamanāgamamatārkikīyaṃ kathayati, tadapyapahastitam |
nanvavyavasāye yadyadhyavaseyaṃ vastu na sphurati tadā tadadhyavasitamiti ko'rthaḥ | apratibhāse'pi pravṛttiviṣayīkṛtamiti yo'rthaḥ | apratibhāsāviśeṣe viṣayāntaraparihāreṇa kathaṃ niyataviṣayā pravṛttiriti cet | ucyate | yadyapi viśvamagṛhītaṃ tathāpi vikalpasya niyatasāmagrīprasūtatvena niyatākāratayā, niyataśaktitvāt niyataiva jalādau pravṛttiḥ | dhūmasya parokṣāgnijñānajananavat |
niyataviṣayā hi bhāvāḥ pramāṇapariniṣṭhitasvabhāvā na śaktisāṃkaryaparyanuyogabhājaḥ | tasmāt tadadhyavasāyitva mākāraviśeṣayogāt tatpravṛttijanakatvam | na ca sādṛśyādāropeṇa pravṛttiṃ brūmaḥ, yenākāre bāhyasya bāhye vā ākārasyāropadvāreṇa dūṣaṇābakāśaḥ | kiṃ tarhi svavāsanāvipākavaśādupajāyamānaiva buddhirapaśyantyapi bāhyaṃ bāhye pravṛttimātanotīti viplutaiva | tadevamanyābhāvaviśiṣṭo vijātivyāvṛtto'rtho vidhiḥ | sa eva cāpohaśabdavācyaḥ śabdānāmarthaḥ pravṛttinivṛttiviṣayaśceti sthitam |
atra prayogaḥ | yad vācakaṃ tatsarvamadhyavasitātadrūpaparāvṛtavastumātragocaram | yatheha kūpe jalamiti vacanam | vācakaṃ cedaṃ gavādiśabdarūpamiti svabhāvahetuḥ | nāyamasiddhaḥ | pūrvoktena nyāyena pāramārthikavācyavācakabhāvasyābhāve'pyadhyavasāyakṛtasyaiva sarvavyavahāribhiravaśyaṃ svīkarttavyatvāt | anyathā sarvavyavahārocchedaprasaṅgāt | nāpi viruddhaḥ | sapakṣe bhāvāt | na cānaikāntikaḥ | tathā hi śabdānāmadhyavasitavijātivyāvṛttavastumātraviṣayatvamanicchadbhiḥ paraiḥ paramārthato
vācyaṃ svalakṣaṇamupādhirupādhiyogaḥ
sopādhirastu yadi vā kṛtirastu buddhaḥ |
gatyantarābhāvāt | aviṣayatve ca vācakatvāyogāt | tatra
ādyantayorna samayaḥ phalaśaktihāne -
rmadhye'pyupādhivirahāt tritayena yuktaḥ ||
tadevaṃ vācyāntarasyābhāvāt viṣayavattvalakṣaṇasya vyāpakasya nivṛttau vipakṣato nivarttamānaṃ vācakatvamadhyavasitabāhyaviṣayatvena vyāpyata iti vyāptisiddhiḥ |
mahāpaṇḍitaratnakīrtipādavira(ci) tamapohaprakaraṇaṃ
samāptam ||
