prathamaḥ pādaḥ|

atha yaduktaṃ [“sattvakarmadvidhākhyena pūritaṃ vāyumaṇḍalam”] ityetaducyatām| kāni tāni kiyanti vā karmāṇītyataḥ karmāṇi prastūyante|

[154] sattvopapattihetūnāṃ [vipatsaṃpa]dvidhāyiṇā(nā)m|
lokavacitryakartṝṇāṃ karma heturitīṣyate||]

[dṛśyate] khalu sattvānāṃ hīnamadhyopkṛṣṭajātiparigrahāyāmāśrayabhogādisampadvipattiśca| yacca dvividhasya lokasya vicitratā tatra karmāṇi hetuḥ| atasteṣāṃ tattvāni vakṣyāmi| yadapyuktaṃ kāni kiyanti veti tadupavyākhyāyate||

sūtre dve karma[ṇī] nidi[śyoktam-“dve karmaṇī cetanā karma cetayitvā] ca” iti| tāni punastrīṇyuktāni| katham ?

[155] kāyikaṃ vāṅmayaṃ caiva cetanākhyaṃ ca mānasam|
karmāṇyetāni lokasya kāraṇaṃ neśvarādayaḥ|

etāni khalu trīṇi karmāṇi śubhāśubhāni dvividhasyāpi sattvabhājanalokasya hitāhitanimittānyutpattau ca sampattau ca vaicitryasya ca kāraṇam| neśvarakālapuruṣapradhānādayaḥ||

tatra tāvadyathā neśvaraḥ kāraṇaṃ tathā pūrvamullikhitam, idānīṃ tu vispaṣṭataramāviṣkriyate-

[156] vaiśvarūpyātkramotpādāttadvadanyatprasaṅgataḥ|

yadi khalveko nityaśceśvaro lokasyotpattisthitipralayakāraṇaṃ syāt, tena khalu kāraṇānuvidhāyitvātkāryasyaitat trayaṃ viruddhaṃ yugapat syāt| na caitad dṛṣṭamiṣṭaṃ vetyasadetat| kiñca lokaścāpyavicitraḥ syāt| yugapaccotpadyeta nagnaḥ kapālapāṇiśca paryaṭettadicchānuvidhāyī ca syāt| na caitadevam| tasmānneśvaraḥ kāraṇam|

grāmādyadhipativiśeṣotkarṣāvasthānādīśvaraprasiddhiriti cet| na| grāmādhikṛtādiha paratantratvānityatvakāryāntaraśaktivighātādidarśaṇā(nā)t, gomayapiṇḍopamasūtrokteśca|

bhāgavatāditannindādarśaṇā(nā)cca| bhāgavatādyā hi maheśvaraṃ ṇi(ni)ndyanto dṛśyante| māheśvarāśca viṣṇumiti|

kāraṇasāpekṣaṃ tapaḥsāmarthyādutpādayatīti cet| tatrāpadiśyate|

nānyāpekṣā tapoyogo pakṣahānyādidoṣataḥ|

yadi khalu sahakārikāraṇāpekṣaḥ tapobalalabdhyaiśvaryaśca lokaṃ sṛjati kumbhakārabaddhaṭādīn| na| cai(e)vaṃ sati pūrvapakṣotsargaḥ kṛto bhavati| yaduktaṃ nityaścaikaśca svatantraḥ kāraṇamiti taddhīnam| tapobalasāmarthyābhyupagame cānityatvaṃ pāratantryaṃ cābhyupagataṃ bhavati| tadabhyupagamāccānaiśvaryamiti| etena kālapuruṣapradhānādikāraṇaparigrahāḥ pratyūḍhā veditavyāḥ|

yadi khalu karma kāraṇaṃ neśvarādayaḥ kathaṃ tarhi lokastatkāraṇaparigrahaṃ karotīti ? atra brūmaḥ-

[157] karmaṇāṃ bodhyate śaktirvidhikālagrahādibhiḥ|
yato'tasteṣu tācchabdyaṃ gaunyā(ṇyā) vṛttyā prayujyate||

yathoktam-
“vidhirvidhānaṃ niyatiḥ svabhāvaḥ
kālo grahā īśvarakarmadaivam|
puṇyāni bhā[gyā]ṇi(i) kṛtāntayogaḥ
paryāyanāmāṇi(ni) purākṛtasya||”

kiñca, yataśca
“grahayogo bhujāspandaḥ svapnaḥ pūrṇaghaṭādayaḥ|
sūcayanti nṛṇāmete vṛttilābhaṃ svakarmaṇaḥ||”

ityato'pi teṣu tācchabdyaṃ prayujyata iti||

kathaṃ puṇa(na)reṣāṃ trayāṇāṃ karmaṇāṃ vyavasthānam ? yadyāśrayataḥ, sarveṣāṃ kāyāśritatvādekatvam| svabhāva[taśce]t, vākkarmaivaikaṃ prāptam| samutthānataścet, manaḥkarmaikaṃ prāptam| sarveṣāṃ manasotthāpitatvāt| tribhirapīti vaibhāṣikāḥ||

te puṇa(na)rete prathame dve karmaṇī pratyekaṃ dviprabhede| katham ? tadapadiśyate-

[158 ab.] pūrve vijñaptyavijñaptī

kāyakarma khalu kāyavijñaptiḥ kāyāvijñaptiśca| vākkarmāpi vāgvijñaptirvāgavijñaptiśca| tṛtīyaṃ tu karma-

cetanā mānasī kriyā|

uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-“cetanā karma cetayitvā|” tatpunastridhoktam- “kāyakarma vākkarma manaskarma ca” iti|

kiṃ svabhāvaṃ punaridaṃ kāyakarma kiṃ tāvatkāyasvabhāvam ? yathā vākkarma vāksvabhāvam, āhosvitkāyādanyadyathā manaskarma manasonyadityetadā[ha]| ..............

[159] annamatyagniṇi(ni)rdagdhaṃ yathā sthālī ca saṃskṛtā|
pāpadṛṣṭestathā śīlaṃ śāṭhyerṣyādikṣatātmanaḥ||

[160] saṃvṛtsaddṛṣṭyupetāto bhikṣutvaṃ paramārthataḥ|
ekasampattu saṃvṛtyā dvayābhāve dvidhā'pi na||

dṛṣṭisampadviśuddhā khalu śa[īla]sampat ‘bhikṣutvaṃ paramārthataḥ| anyataravikalastu saṃvṛtyā bhikṣurbhavati| dvyaṅgavikalastu nāpi saṃvṛtyā nāni paramārthata iti|

yadi khalu vinā saṃvareṇāṣṭau nikāyā na vyavasthāpyante kathaṃ tarhi bhagavatoktaiḥ-“ekadeśakārī, pradeśakārī, yadbhūyaskārī, paripūrṇakārī” ityatrāpyayamartho dṛśyate ? kaścitkhalvakāryaikadeśaviratikṣamo bhavati| kaścidyāvatsamagraḥ (gra) dauḥśīlyaviratikṣamaḥ| ityato bhagavānakāryaikadeśaviratyā'pyupāsakatvaṃ śāsti| na hi sarvaśīlavikalaḥ kaściccharaṇagamanecchāmātrakeṇopāsako bhavati ṣaḍaṅgoṣadhaikadvyaṅgavaikalyopayogavaditi|

atha yaduktam-“buddhaṃ dharmaṃ saṃghaṃ śaraṇaṃ gacchati” iti tatka ete buddhādayaḥ ? tadidamabhidhīyate-

[161] vigatāvaṇe jñāne buddhoktermukhyakalpanā|
tadāśraye phale cāpi vijñeyā guṇakalpanā||

dvividha[:] khalu buddhaḥ saṃvṛtyā paramārthataśca| tatra paramārthato yathoktaṃ śāstre-“yo buddhaṃ śaraṇaṃ gacchati kimasau śaraṇaṃ gacchati ? tānevāsau buddhaka[ā]rakānaśaikṣāndharmāñcharaṇaṃ gacchati| te hi buddhaśabdapravṛttinimittacihnam|” iti| tebhyo'pi nirāvaraṇaṃ jñānaṃ pradhānaṃ sarvajña iti lokaprasiddha eṣa tāvat pāramārthiko buddhaḥ| saṃvṛtyāpi ‘tadāśraye’ dvātriśatā lakṣaṇairaśītyā cānuvyañjanairvirājite rūpakāye'pi buddhākhyeti| tatphale ca balavaiśāradyamahākaruṇādiṣu buddhoktiriti|

[162] śāśvatatvaśubhatvābhyāṃ sarvāṇa(na)rthanivṛttitaḥ|
mukhyakalpanayā tadvaddharmo nirvāṇamucyate||

nityāvikṛtasvalakṣaṇe(ṇa)dhāraṇāttatprāptānāṃ cātyantadhāraṇe nirvāṇaṃ pāramārthiko dharmaḥ| guṇakalpanathā tu pratyekabuddhabodhisattvasantāniko mārgaḥ| trīṇi ca piṭakāni dharmo nirvāṇaprāpakatvāt||

[163] āryāḥ śiṣyaguṇāḥ saṃghastathaiva paramārthataḥ|

navānāmaśaikṣāṇāmaṣṭādaśānāṃ ca śaikṣāṇāṃ śiṣyāṇāṃ santāne yo mārgaḥ sa pāramārthikaḥ saṃgha ityucyate| saṃvṛtyā tu pṛthagjanakalyāṇakabhikṣusaṃgha ityapadiśyate|

etānyo yāti śaraṇaṃ sa yāti śaraṇatrayam||

etānyathoktalakṣaṇān buddhadharmasaṃdhān śaraṇaṃ gacchati ‘yo yāti śaraṇatrayam’ iti||

kiṃ svabhāvāni punaḥ śaraṇagamanāni ? vāgvijñaptitatsamutthadharmasvabhāvāni||

kaḥ punaḥ śaraṇārthaḥ ? trāṇārthaḥ śaraṇārthaḥ| tadāśrayeṇa sarvaduḥkhātyantavimokṣāt| uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-

“bahavaḥ śaraṇaṃ yānti parvatāṃśca vanāni ca|
ārāmāṃścaityavṛkṣāṃśca manuṣyā bhayatarjitāḥ||
na caitaccharaṇaṃ śreṣṭhaṃ naitaccharaṇamuttamam|
naitaccharaṇamāgamya sarvaduḥkhātpramucyate||
yastu buddhaṃ ca dharmaṃ ca saṃghaṃ ca śaraṇaṃ gataḥ|
catvāri cāryasatyāni paśyati prajñayā yadā||
duḥkhaṃ duḥkhasamutpādaṃ duḥkhasya samatikramam|
āryaṃ cāṣṭāṃgikaṃ mārgaṃ kṣemaṃ nirvāṇagāminam||
etaddhi śaraṇaṃ śreṣṭhametaccharaṇamuttamam|
etaccharaṇamāgamya sarvaduḥkhātpramucyate||” iti|

ata eva śaraṇagamanāni sarvasaṃvarasamādāneṣu dvārabhūtāni, dṛṣṭisaṃpannasya teṣāṃ prarohāt|

kiṃ punaḥ kāraṇaṃ kāmamithyācārādevopāsakasya viratiḥ śikṣāpadeṣu vyavasthāpitā na sarvasmādabrahmacaryāt ? anyebhyaśca prakṛtisāvadyebhyo mṛṣāvāda eva śikṣāpadeṣu vyavasthāpyate, na pāruṣyādi ? sarvebhyaśca pratipakṣe(kṣapa)ṇasāvadyebhyaḥ madyapānādeva viratiḥ śikṣāpadaṃ vyavasthāpitam ? taducyate-

[164] mithyācāraḥ satāṃ garhyātparatrākaraṇāptitaḥ|
pāpiṣṭhatvānmṛṣāvādo madyapāṇaṃ(naṃ) smṛtikṣayātū||

kāmamithyācāro hi loke'tyarthaṃ garhitaḥ| pareṣāṃ dāropaghātādāpāyikatvācca| na tathā'brahmacaryam| sukarā ca gṛhasthasya kāmamithyācāravi ratiḥ, duṣkarā tvabrahmacaryāt| āryaścākaraṇasaṃvaraṃ kāmamithyācārādeva janmāntarito'pi labhate na tvabrahmacaryāt|

mṛṣāvādo'pi bhagavatā pāpiṣṭhatvādrāhulamuddiṣya paramenādareṇoktaḥ-“yasya rāhula mṛṣāvāde nāsti lajjā nāsti kaukṛtyaṃ nāhaṃ tasya kiñcidakaraṇīyaṃ vadāmi” iti|

madyapāne'pi smṛtilopo bhavati, sarvaśikṣāpadakṣobho bhavatītyataḥ pratikṣepaṇasāvadyamapi sanmadyapāṇaṃ(naṃ) kuśāgreṇāpi bhagavatā nābhyanujñātam||

idamidānīmucyatām| ya ete trayaḥ prātimokṣadhyānānāsravasaṃvarāḥ kimeṣāṃ yata eko labhyate tataḥ śeṣā apīti ? brūmaḥ-

[165] sarvebhyo vartamānebhyo dvividhebhyo'pi kāmajaḥ|

prātimokṣasaṃvaraḥ khalu sarvebhyo maulaprayogapṛṣṭhebhyo vartamānebhyaḥ skandhāyatanadhātubhyaḥ sattvādhiṣṭhānapravattatvāt, nātītānāgatebhyasteṣāmasattvasaṃkhyātatvāllabhyate| ‘dvividhebhyo'pi’ sattvāsattvākhyebhyaḥ, prakṛtipratikṣepaṇasāvadyebhyaśca|

trikālebhyastu maulebhyo labhyete bhāvanāmayau||

etau hi maulebhya eva karmapathebhyo labhyete na prayogapṛṣṭhebhyo nāpi prajñaptisāvadyebhyaḥ, sarvakālebhyaśca skandhāyatanadhātubhyo labhyete'tītānāgatebhyo'pi|

catuṣkoṭikā cātra bhavati| “santi te skandhāyatanadhātavo yebhyaḥ prātimokṣasaṃvaro labhyate na dhyānānāsravasaṃvarau” iti vistaraḥ| prathamā koṭi(ṭiḥ)-pratyutpannebhyaḥ sāmantakapṛṣṭhebhyaḥ pratikṣepaṇasāvadyācca| dvitīyāatītānāgatebhyo maulebhyaḥ karmapathebhyaḥ| tṛtīyā-pratyutpannebhyaḥ maulebhyaḥ karmapathebhyaḥ| caturthī-atītānāgatebhyaḥ sāmantakapṛṣṭhebhya iti||

kiṃ punarimau saṃvarāsaṃvarau sarvasattvebhya eva labhyete ? sarvāṅgebhyaḥ sarvakāraṇaiśca ? athāsti kaścidbhedaḥ ? tatra tāvadavaśyaṃ labha(bhya)te-

[166] sarvebhyaḥ sattvajātibhyaḥ saṃvaro vāṅgakāraṇaiḥ|
sarvebhyo saṃvarāṅgebhyaḥ sattvebhyaśca na kāraṇaiḥ||

sarvasattvebhyaḥ khalu saṃvaro labhyate na kebhyaścit| aṅgebhyastu vibhāṣā kaścitsarvebhyo labhyate bhikṣusaṃvaraḥ| kaściccaturbhyaḥ| tato'nyaḥ| karmapathā hi saṃvarābhyāṅgāni| kāraṇairapi kenacitparyāyeṇa sarvaiḥ, keṇa(na)cidekena|

kathaṃ tāvatsarvairyadyalobhādveṣāmohāḥ kāraṇānīṣyante ? kathamekena yadi mṛdumadhyādhimātrāṇi cittāni kāraṇānīṣyante ? paścimena paryāyeṇa niyamocyate| asthi(sti) saṃvarasthāyo sarvasattveṣu saṃvṛto na sarvāṅgairna sarvakāraṇairyo mṛdunā cittena madhyenādhimātreṇa vā upāsakopavāsaśrāmane(ṇe)rasaṃvaraṃ samādatte| asti sarvasattveṣu saṃvṛtaḥ sarvāṅgaiśca, na tu sarvakāraṇairyo mṛdunā cittena madhyenādhimātreṇa vā bhikṣusaṃvaraṃ samādatte| asti sarvasattveṣu sarvāṅgaiḥ sarvakāraṇaiśca yastrividhena cittena trīnsaṃvarān samādatte| asti sarvasattveṣu sarvakāraṇaiśca na tu sarvāṅgairya upāsakopavāsaśrāmane(ṇe)rasavarānmṛdumadhyādhimātraiścittaiḥ samādatte| yastu na sarvasattveṣu syādīdṛśo nāsti yasmātsarvasattvānugatakalyāṇāśaye sthitaḥ saṃvaraṃ pratilabhate nānyathā, pāpāśayasyānuparatatvāt|

pañcaniyamāna(n) kurvan prātimokṣasaṃvaraṃ labhate| sattvāṅgadeṣa(śa)kālasamayamiyamān(:)-amuṣmātsattvādviramāmīti sattvaniyamaḥ| amuṣmādaṅgādityaṅganiyamaḥ| amuṣmindeśa iti deśaniyamaḥ| māsādyāvaditi kālaniyamaḥ| anyatra yuddhāditi samayaniyamaḥ| sucaritamātraṃ tu tatsyādevaṃ gṛhṇato na saṃvaraḥ|

kathamaśakyebhyaḥ saṃvaralābhaḥ ? sarvasattvajīvitānupaghātādhyāśayeṇa(nā)bhyupagamāt| uktaṃ yathā saṃvaro labhyate||

asaṃvaro'pi sarvasattvebhyaḥ sarvakarmapathebhyaśca na tu [sarva]kāraṇaiḥ, yugapanmṛdvādicittābhāvāt|

ke punarasāṃvarikāḥ ? aurabhrikāḥ kaukkuṭikāḥ saukarikāḥ śākuntikā mātsikā mṛgalubdhakāścaurāḥ vadhyaghātakā bandhanapālakā nāgabandhāśvapākā vāgurikāśca| rājāno daṇḍanetāro vyāvahārikāśca nīticalitā asāvarikāḥ| asaṃvare bhā(bha)vāḥ, asaṃvaro vā eṣāṃ vidyata ityasāṃvarikāḥ||

uktamidaṃ yebhyaḥ [a]saṃvaro labhyate| kathaṃ tu tallābha iti noktaṃ tadā rabhyate-

[167] kriyayā[']saṃvarapraptiḥ sa hābhyupagamena vā|
avijñaptirato'nyasyāḥ kṣetrāṅgādiviśeṣataḥ||

dvābhyāṃ kāraṇābhyāmasaṃvaro labhyate| kriyayā'bhyupagamena vā| kriyayā tatkulīnatatkarmābhyupagamāt| atatkulīnairvayamapyanayā jīvikayā jīviṣyāma iti| śeṣā'vijñaptilābhastu kṣetrāṅgaviśeṣāditi| kṣetraṃ vā tadrūpaṃ bhavati yathārāmādipranānamātreṇāvijñaptirutpadyate| yathaupadhikeṣu puṇyakriyāvastuṣu| ādareṇa vā samādatte| buddhamavanditvā na bhokṣya iti| māsārdhamāsabhaktāni vā nityaṃ kariṣyāmītyevamādi| ādareṇa vā tadrūpeṇa kriyāmīhate kuśalāmakuśalāṃ vā yato'syā vijñaptirutpadyate|

uktametadyathā saṃvarāsaṃvarāṇāṃ pratilambhaḥ||

tyāga idānīṃ vaktavyaḥ| tatra tāvat-

[168] kāmāptasaṃvaratyāgaḥ śikṣāṇi(ni)kṣepaṇādibhiḥ|
patanīyarapītyeke tannetyanye tvayogataḥ||

kāmāptasyāṣṭaprakārasaṃvarasya pañcabhiḥ kāraṇaistyāgaḥ| śikṣānikṣepaṇanikāyasabhāgatyāgobhayavyañjanotpādakuśalasamucchedebhyo niśātyayeṇā(nā)ṣṭamasya| tānyetānyabhisamasya pañca bhavanti|

kiṃ punaḥ kāraṇamebhistyāgo bhavati ? samā[dā]naviruddhavijñaptyutpādādāśrayatyāgādāśrayakopanānnidānacchedāttāvadevākṣepācca|

anye punarāhuḥ-caturṇāṃ patanīyāṇā(nā)manyatamena bhikṣuśrāmaṇerasaṃvaratyāgaḥ|“ ‘tanna’ iti, ‘ayogataḥ’|

kaḥ punarayogaḥ ?

[169] ayogā(go) nāṃśuvidhvaṃsātpaṭadravyaṃ vinaśyati|

na hyavayavanāśādavayavivināśo bhavati| avayavirūpaśca prātimokṣasaṃvaraḥ| tasyāvayavakṣobhācchidratvaṃ bhavati mālinyaṃ ca| yathoktaṃ bhagavatā-“duḥśīlo bhavati pāpadharmā|”

sūtraviroghādayuktamiti ce[datropa]diśanti-

sūtre dhvaṃsoktiranyārthā yatherṣyāśaṭhanādiṣu||

bhagavatātra“abhikṣurbhavati” iti śāsanasthityarthaṃ durvṛttavineyāvasādanārthaṃ coktam| yathā-“īrṣyiko bhavati matsarī śaṭho māyāvī mithyādṛṣṭirityevamādidoṣayuktaḥ kaśambakajātīyaḥ pāpabhikṣurṇi(rni)rvāsayitavyaḥ|” na ca cittāvidūṣaṇādabhikṣutvaṃ bhavati vineyaśāsanārthatattva[vid]bhirityuktam| tadvadatrāpi draṣṭavyamiti|

tasmātpūrvoktalakṣaṇa eva bhikṣurṇa(rna) yathāha kośakāraḥ|

[170] saddharmāntarddhito'nye'nye nāpūrvāpratilambhataḥ|

anye punarbrūvate-saddharmāntardhāne'pi saṃvaratyāgo bhavati| tattu naivam| yasmādapūrvastadā notpadyate| utpannastu yathoktai reva kāraṇairvinaśyati||

atha dhyānānāsravasaṃvarayostyāgaḥ katham ? tadidamapadiśyate-

bhūsaṃcāreṇa hānyā ca tyajyate dhyānajaṃ śubham||

sarvameva khalu dhyānāptaṃ kuśalaṃ dvyābhyāṃ kāraṇābhyāṃ tyajyate| upapattitto vā bhūmisaṃcārādardhvaṃ vā'dho vā| parihāṇito vā| samāpatternikāyasabhāgatyāgācceti||

[171] tathā''rūpyāptamāryantu phalāptyakṣavihānibhiḥ|

yathaiva rūpāptaṃ kuśalaṃ bhūmisaṃcārahāṇi(ni)bhyāṃ tyajyate tathaivārūpyāptam| āryaṃ tu kuśalaṃ tribhiḥ kāraṇastyajyate| phalaprāptitaḥ pūrvako mārgastyajyate| akṣottāpanena mṛdvindriyamārgaḥ| parihāṇita uttaro mārgaḥ| phalaṃ phalaviśiṣṭo vā| evaṃ tāvatsaṃvarastyajyate|

asaṃvaro damaprāptirjīvitotsarjaṇā(nā) dibhiḥ||

tribhiḥ kāraṇairasaṃvaracchedaḥ| saṃvaraprāptitaḥ| yadi saṃvaraṃ samāpadyate ghyānasaṃvaraṃ vā pratilabhate hetupratyayabalenasamādhilābhāttenāsaṃvarastyājyate| pratidvandvabalīyastvāt| maraṇena cāśrayatyāgāt| dvivyañjanotpādena cāśrayavikopanāt| śastrajalatyāge'pyakaraṇāśayataḥ saṃvaramantareṇāsaṃvaracchedo nāsti| nidānaparivarjaṇe (ne) na pravṛddharogānivṛttivat||

atha saṃvarāsaṃvaravinirmuktā kathamavijñaptistyajyate ? taducyate-

[172] cittavegādivicchedairavijñaptistu madhyamā|

yeṇa(na)khalvasau prasādakleśavegeṇā(nā)vijñaptirākṣiptā tasya vicchedātsāpi vicchidyante (te), kumbhakāracakragativat| samādānatyāgādapi vicchidyate| kriyāvicchedādapi vicchidyate| caityavihārakṣetrāderapyarthasya vicchedādvicchidyate| āyuṣo'pi kuśalamūlānāmapi vicchedādvicchidyate|

kāmāptaṃ kuśalaṃ nāma tribhirmūlacchidādibhiḥ||

kāmāvacaraṃ punaḥ kuśalamarūpasvabhāvaṃ dvābhyāṃ kāraṇābhyāṃ tyajyate| kuśalamūlasamucchedāt, rūpārūpyadhātūpapattitaśca|

[173] pratipakṣodayātkliṣṭaṃ tridhātvāptaṃ vihīyate|

kliṣṭaṃ tvarūpasvabhāvaṃ sarvameva pratipakṣodayādvihīyate| yasyopakleśaprakārasya yaḥ prahāṇamārgaḥ, tenāsau saparivāraḥ parityajyate| nānyathā||

atha keṣāṃ sattvānāmasaṃvaro bhavati keṣāṃ saṃvaraḥ ? tadapadiśyate-

sarve kāmeṣu rūpe dvādhe(ve)ko'rūpiṣu lābhataḥ||

kāmeṣu khalu sarvaśaṇḍhapaṇḍaka dīni hitvā kurūṃśca hitvā| devānāmapi saṃvaraḥ| ityato gatidvaye saṃvarāsaṃvarau vidyete| nānyatreti||

karmādhikārādidānīṃ sū troktoddiṣṭānāṃ karmā(rma)ṇāṃ nirdeśaṃ kariṣyāmaḥ| uktaṃ hi sūtre-“trīṇi karmāṇi kuśalamakuśalamavyākṛtaṃ ca|” teṣāṃ lakṣaṇamidamucyate-

[174] yadiṣṭaphaladaṃ karma kuśalaṃ tadudāhṛtam|
viparyayeṇākuśalamavyākṛtamato'nyathā||

yatkhalviṣṭavipākaṃ ṇi(ni)rvāṇaprā[pakaṃ] ce(ca) duḥkhaparitrāṇāt, tatkālamatyantaṃ vā, tatkuśalam| niruktirapīyam| niravadyadevamanuṣyastrīrūpanirvartaṇā(nā)cchikṣitacitrakararūpanirvartaṇa(na)vat| kuśalamiva kuśalamaupamiko'yaṃ śabdaniveśaḥ| tadyathā śikṣitaḥ puruṣaḥ kuśānakṣatahasto lunāti sa kuśala iti nirucyate, tadvadanyāmapi kriyāmavikṛtāṃ saṃpādayan kuśala ityucyate| ‘viparyayeṇākuśalam’ uṣṭrolūkādivat| ‘avyākṛtamato'nyathā’ ubhayavipākānirvartaṇā(nā)t||

anyānyapi trīṇi karmāṇyuktāni| puṇyamapuṇyamānejyaṃ ca| tatra tāvat

[175] kāmāptaṃ prathamaṃ puṇyamapuṇyamaśubhātmakam|
ūrdhvabhūmikamānejyaṃ vipākaṃ pratyanejanāt||

kāmāvacaraṃ hi kuśalaṃ karma puṇyamakuśalamapuṇyamityucyate| ūrdhvabhūmikamānejyam|’ tadūrdhvaṃ dhātudvaye śubhaṃ karmānejyamityucyate| kasmātpunaretadānejyamityuktam ? ‘vipākaṃ pratyanejanāt|’ kāmāvacaraṃ hi karma vipākaṃ prati kampate lavaṇopamasūtraṇya(nyā)yena| katham ? avyavasthānāt| anyagatikamapi hyanyasyāṃ gatau vipacyate| tadanyadevanaikāyikaṃ cānyatra devanikāye| yadeva hi pramāna(ṇa)balavarṇasukhabhogādisaṃvartanīyaṃ karma deveṣu vipacyeta tadeva kadācidanyapratyayavaśānmanuṣyatiryakpreteṣu vipacyate| karmajāticodaneyaṃ bhagavato vivakṣitā na dravyacodaneti|

atrāha| nanu ca trīṇi ghyānāni señjitānyuktāni bhagavatā-“yadatra vitarkitaṃ vicāritamidamatrāryā iñjitamityāhuḥ” ityevamādi ? samādhyapakṣālāṃsteṣāṃ sandhāyaivamuktam| ānejyānyapi tu tānyuktānyānejyasūtre, ānejyasaṃpreyagāminīṃ pratipadamārabhya||

punaraṇyā(nyā)ni trīṇi karmāṇyuktāni-“sukhavedanīyaṃ duḥkhavedanīyaṃ, aduḥkhāsukhavedanīyaṃ ca|” tatra

[176] sukhavedyaṃ śubha(bhaṃ) karma dhyānādarvākturīyakāt|
upekṣāvedyamanyatra duḥkhavedyantu pāpakam||

tatra śubhaṃ karma yāvattṛtīye ghyāne sukhavedyamityucyate| etāvatī khalu bhūmiḥ sukhāyā vedanāyāḥ| tadeva caturthadhyānātprabhṛtyupekṣāvedanīyamityucyate| akuśalaṃ tu karma duḥkhavedanīyamityucyate|

kiṃ puṇa(na)rvedanaiva vipākaḥ ? netyāha| prādhāniko'yaṃ rnirdeśaṃ(śaḥ)| sacatuskandhasambhāraṃ hi sukhamabhipretam| dārṣṭāntikānāṃ tu sukhaiva vedanā vipākaḥ cetanaiva ca karma| ābhidhārmikānāṃ tu pañcaskandho vipākahetuḥ pañcaskandhāśca vipāka iti|

kathaṃ punaravedanāsvabhāvaṃ karma sukhavedanīyamityucyate ? sukhāyā vedanāyā hitaṃ sukhavedanīyam| sukhā'syā vedanīyo vipāka iti vā|

kiṃ punaraduḥkhāsukhā vedanā caturthadhyānādadho na vidyate ? na khalu na vidyate| kiṃ tarhi?

[177] adho'pi madhyamaṃ karma dhyānenāntyepi nirvṛteḥ|
yugapattrivipākeṣṭerdhyānāntaravipākataḥ||

aduḥkhāsukhavedanīyaṃ khalu karma caturthadhyānādadho'pyasti tṛtīye dvitīye prathame ca dhyāne| parinirvṛte upekṣāyāṃ ca sthitaḥ parinirvāti| kiñca, ‘yugapat trivipākeṣṭeḥ|’ uktaṃ hi-“syāt trayāṇāṃ karmā(rma)ṇāmapūrvācaramo vipāko vipacyeta| syātsukhavedanīyasya rūpaṃ, duḥkhavedanīyasya cittacaitasikā dharmāḥ, aduḥkhāsukhavedanīyasya cittaviprayuktāḥ” iti| ato'pyastyadhastādaduḥkhāsukhavedanīyaṃ karma| kiñca, ‘dhyānāntaravipākataḥ|’ nahi dhyānāntare upekṣāmantareṇa vipāko'nyā vedanā vipacyate| tatra sukhaduḥkhayorabhāvāt||

[178] punaścaturvidhaṃ karma dṛṣṭavedyādibhedataḥ|

tadetatkarma samāsato dvividhaṃ, niyatavedanīyamaniyatavedanīyaṃ ca| tatra niyatavedanīyaṃ trividham| dṛṣṭadharmavedanīyamupapadyavedanīyamaparaparyāyavedanīyaṃ ca-ityetat trividhaṃ karma niyatavedanīyam| caturthamaniyatavedanīyam|

tatra dṛṣṭadharmavedanīyaṃ yatraiva janmani kṛtaṃ tatraiva vipacyate| upapadyavedanīyaṃ yad dvitīye janmani| aparaparyāyavedanīyaṃ tasmātpareṇa|

ataḥ punaścaturvidhātkarmaṇaḥ katamena janmākṣipyate?
janmanastribhirākṣepo dṛṣṭadharmāhvayādṛte||

na khalu dṛṣṭadharmavedanīyena karmaṇā nikāyasabhāga ākṣipyate||
atha kasmindhātau kasyāṃ vāṃ gatau katividhaṃ karmākṣipyate ?

[179] caturṇāmapi cākṣepaḥ sarvatra narakādṛte|
na tatreṣṭaphalābhāvācchubhaṃ yasmādvipacyate||

sarveṣu khalu triṣu dhātuṣu sarvāsu ca pañcasu gatiṣu caturṇāmapi karmaṇāmākṣepaḥ kuśalānāmakuśalānāṃ ca| narakānvarjayitvā| narakeṣu hi dṛṣṭa[dharma]vedanīyaṃ kuśalaṃ nākṣipyate| tatreṣṭavipākābhāvādanyat trividhamākṣipyate| kiñca,

[180] notpadyavedyakṛttatra yadviraktaḥ pṛthagjanaḥ|
sthiro nāparakṛccāryaścalo'pi bhavamūlayoḥ||

yataḥ khalu bhūmerviraktaḥ pṛthagjanaḥ sa ca sthiro bhavatyaparihāṇadharmā sa dha(ta)tropapadyavedyaṃ karma nākṣipati| trividhamanyatkaroti| āryapudgalastu vītarāgo na ca parihāṇadharmā tatropapadyavedyamaparaparyāyavedanīyaṃ ca karma na karoti| na hyasau bhavyaḥ punaradharimaṃ bhūmimāyātum| aniyataṃ tu kuryād dṛṣṭadharmavedanīyaṃ yatropapannaḥ kāmadhātau bhavāgre ca| parihāṇadharmāpi tvāryaḥ kāmadhātau vītarāgaḥ, bhavāgrādvā, tayorupapadyāparaparyāyavedanīyaṃ karmakarmā(-nīyaṃ karmā) bhavyaḥ kartum| kiṃ kāraṇam ? phalāddhyasau parihīṇo bhavati| na cāsti phalaparihīṇasya kālakriyeti|

atha kimantarābhavikaḥ karmākṣipati nākṣipati ? ākṣipatītyāha| tatra kāmāvacaro'ntarābhavaḥ dvāviṃśatividhaṃ karmākṣipati| pañca garbhāvasthāḥ kalalārbudaghanapeśīpraśākhāvasthāḥ| pañca jātāvasthāḥ| bālyakaumārayuvamadhyamasthavirāvasthāḥ| tā etā niyatāniyatabhedena viṃśatirākṣipyante, ekanikāyatvāt| ata evāntarābhavavedanīyaṃ karma noktam| upapadyavedanīyenaiva tasyākṣepāt||

kīdṛśaṃ punaḥ karma niyataṃ bhavatyaniyataṃ vā ?

[181] yadārtraraudracittena karmābhīkṣṇaṃ niṣevyate|
satkṣetre kriyate yacca phalaṃ tasya niyamyate||

yadi karma raudreṇa tīvrakleśānugatena cittena kṛtaṃ bhavati,yacca ghanaśraddhāsalilābhyukṣitena kriyate, yacca mṛdvapyabhīkṣṇaṃ niṣevyate, yacca kiñcidguṇavati kṣetre kriyate śubhamaśubhaṃ vā phalaṃ tasya karmaṇo niyamyate||

atha dṛṣṭadharmavedanīyaṃ karma kīdṛśamityucyate-

[182] kṣetrāśayaviśeṣācca phalaṃ sadyo vipacyate|
nirodhavyutthitādau ca sadyaḥ kālaphalakriyā||

tatra kṣetraviśeṣādyathā da(?) kṣajātakādiṣu| āśayaviśeṣādyathā bakalāta(?) syokṣaṇi(ni)rmocanādiṣu|

kīdṛśe punastat kṣetre viśiṣṭaṃ bhavati yatra dṛṣṭe dharme vipāko vipacyate ? buddhapramukhastāvadbhikṣusaṃgho| ‘nirodhavyutthitādau ca sadyaḥ kālaphalakriyā|’ pañcasu ca pudgaleṣu kṛtaṃ nirodhasamāpattya raṇāmaitrīdarśanamārgādarhatphalādvyutthiteṣu kārāpakārā dṛṣṭadharmavedanīyaphalā bhavanti| nirodhasamāpatteḥ khalu vyutthitaḥ parāṃ śāntiṃ labhate| nirvāṇasadṛśadharmānubhavanāt| araṇāvyutthitasyāpyapramāṇasattvahitādhyāśayapravṛttā santatirvartate| evaṃ[maitrī]vyutthitasya| strautaāpannasyāpi nirmalajñānalābhāt| arhato'pi sarvakleśaprahāṇānnirmalā vartante||

niyatavipākasya ca karmaṇaḥ śubhāśubhasya yā bhūmistadatyantavairāgyāttatkarma dṛṣṭe dharme vipacyata ityataḥ

[183] tadbhūmyapunarutpatteḥ

dṛṣṭadharmavedanīyaṃ saṃgṛhītaṃ bhavati| kīdṛśaṃ punaretatkarma ?

vipākaniyataṃ ca yat|

taccaitatkarma vipākaniyataṃ draṣṭavyam|

tacca dṛṣṭaphalaṃ vidyāt

dṛṣṭe dharme khalu tasya vipāko vipacyate| kataratpunaretat ?

karmādaḥ paripūrakam||

nākṣepakamiti||

vipākaḥ khalu vedanāpradhāna ityata idaṃ vicāryate| syātkarmaṇaścaitasikyeva vedanā vipāko na kāyikī ? syātkāyikyeva na caitasikī syādityāha-

[184] kuśalasyāvicārasya caitasikyeva vedanā|
vipākaḥ kāyikī tviṣṭā duḥkhavedyasya karmaṇaḥ||

kuśalaṃ khalvavicāraṃ karma dhyānāntarātprabhṛti yāvadbhavāgram| tasyāvicārasya kuśalasya karma[ṇa]ścaitasikyeva vedanā vipākaḥ| kasmānna kāyikī ? tasyāḥ avaśyaṃ savitarkavicāratvāt| kāyikyeva tvaśubhasya duḥkhavedanāyasya kāyikyeva vedanā vipākaḥ| kasmānna caitasikī ? caitasikaṃ hi daurmaṇa(na) syaṃ na vipākaḥ|

yasta(tta)rhi karmavaśātsattvānāṃ cittakṣepaḥ tatsaṃprayuktā vedanā kathaṃ na vipākaḥ ? na hi tatra cittaṃ karmaṇo vipākaḥ| kiṃ tarhi ? yo mahābhūtātāṃ prakopaḥ sa vipākaḥ| tatastajjātaṃ cittaṃ vipākaśabdenopacaryate||

punaścaturvidhaṃ karmoktam-“asti karma kṛṣṇaṃ kṛṣṇavipākam| asti śuklaṃ śuklavipākam| asti karma kṛṣṇaśuklaṃ kṛṣṇaśuklavipākam| astyakṛṣṇamaśuklamavipākaṃ karma karmakṣayāya saṃvartate’ iti| tatra

[185] sapākamaśubhaṃ kṛṣṇaṃ sapākaṃ rūpajaṃ sitam|
śubhāśubhaṃ dvidhā kāye(me) nirmalaṃ tatprahāṇakṛt||

aśubhaṃ khalu karma ekāntena kṛṣṇaṃ kliṣṭatvāt| kṛṣṇavipākaṃ cāmanojñavipākatvāt| rūpāptantu śubhamekāntena śuklam, akuśalenāvyavakīrṇatvāt| śuklavipākaṃ ca manojñavipākatvāt|

ārūpyāptaṃ kasmānnocyate ? yatra hi dvividho'sti vipākaḥ-antarābhavikaścopapattibhavikaśca; trividhasya ca kāyavāṅmanaskarmaṇastatraivoktamiti|

“kāmāptaṃ śuklaṃ kuṣṇaśuklamakuśalavyavakīrṇatvāt, kṛṣṇaśuklavipākaṃ vyavakīrṇavipākatvāt|” santānata etadvyavasthāpitaṃ na svabhāvato na hyevaṃjātīyakamevaṃ karmāsti vipāko vā yatkṛṣṇaṃ ca syācchuklaṃ ca, anyonyavirodhāt| nanu caivamakuśalasyāpi karmaṇaḥ kuśalavyavakīrṇatvātkṛṣṇaśuklatvaṃ prāpnoti ? nāvaśyamakuśalaṃ kuśalena vyavakīryate| kāmadhātau tvasya balavatvātkuśalantu vyavakīryate durbalatvāditi|

anāsravaṃ karmaiṣāṃ trayāṇāṃ karmaṇāṃ kṣayāya prahāṇāya saṃvartate| taddhyakṛṣṇamakliṣṭatvādaśuklaṃ vipākaśuklatā'bhāvāt| ābhiprāyiko'pyeśa(ṣa) [']śuklaśabdaḥ| uktaṃ tu bhagavatā mahatyāṃ śūnyatāyāmaśaikṣadharmāṇā(nā)rabhya-“ime te ānanda, dharmā ekāntaśuklā ekāntānavadyāḥ” iti| śāstre ca-“śukladharmāḥ katame ? kuśalā dharmā anivṛtāvyākṛtāśca|” iti| avipākaṃ dhātvapatitatvāt pravṛttivirodhācca|

kiṃ punaḥ sarvamanāsravaṃ karma sarvasyāsya trividhasya karmaṇaḥ kṣayāya saṃvartate ? necyu(tyucya)te| kiṃ tarhi ?

[186] casasro dṛkpathā dṛṣṭau cetanābhāvanāpathāt|
ānantaryapathāḥ kāme karmaitatkṛṣṇanāśakṛt||

[187] navame cetanā yā tu sā kṛṣṇākṛṣṇayā[ghā]tinī|
antānantaryamārgasthā dhyāne dhyāne sitasya tu||

tatra darśaṇa(na)mārge tāvaccatasṛṣu dharmajñānakṣāntiṣu kāmavairāgye cāṣṭāsvānantaryamārgeṣu yā cetanā dvādaśaprakārā sā kṛṣṇasya karmaṇaḥ prahāṇakārī| kāmavairāgyānantaryamārgeṇa(ṇā)vaseyā cetanā sā kṛṣṇaśuklakarmakṣayakārī| dhyāne dhyāne tvānantaryamārge paścime yā cetanā caturvidhā sā śuklakarmāpahantrī|

kiṃ puṇaḥ(naḥ) kāraṇamantyenaivānantaryamārgeṇa kuśalasya karmaṇaḥ prahāṇaṃ nānyena ? na hi tasya svabhāvaprahāṇaṃ prahīṇasyāpi saṃmukhībhāvāt| kiṃ tarhi ? tadālambanakleśaprahāṇāt| ato yāvadeko'pi tadālambanaḥ kleśaprakāro'sti tāvadasya prahāṇaṃ nopalabhyate| taccaitadasat| prahīṇaṃ hi tat, na tu vihīnam| ataḥ samudācaratīti| gatametat||

sūtra uktam-“trīṇi duścaritāni| kāyaduścaritaṃ vāṅmanoduścaritam| evaṃ sucaritāni” iti| teṣāṃ kaḥ svabhāvaḥ ? tatra tāvat-

[188] kāyādyakuśalaṃ karma sarvaṃ duścaritaṃ matam|

sarvamiti sasāmantakamaulapṛṣṭhamityarthaḥ|

abhidhyādīnyapi trīṇi manoduścaritatrayam||

sarvamevākuśalaṃ kāyakarma kāyaduścaritam| evaṃ vāṅmanoduścaritam| akarmasvabhāvānyapi tvabhidhyādīni manoduścaritasvabhāvāni|

“abhighyādaya eva karmasvabhāvāni” iti sthitibhāgīyāḥ| tacca na, karmakleśaikatvadoṣāt| sthitibhāgīyā ṇā(nā)ma śākyāḥ sva(śva?) lāṃgūlikadvitīyanāmānaḥ| te khalvabhidhyādīni manaskarmasvabhāvānīcchanti| teṣāṃ karmakleśaikatvasaṅkaraḥ prāpnoti| kośakāraḥ-“ko'tra doṣaḥ” ? yadi kaścitkleśaḥ karmāpi syādvāyasaḥ sārasaḥ syāt| karmakleśānāṃ cātyantasvabhāvaprabhāvakriyāphalabhedabhinnānāmekatvaparikalpaiḥ sāṃkhyīyādidarśaṇa(na)mabhyupagataṃ syāt|

‘api’ śabdātpunaratra sūtroktāstrayo vaṅkāstrayo doṣāstrayaḥ kaṣāyā ākṛṣyante| teṣāṃ punaridaṃ lakṣaṇaṃ yathākrameṇa| śāṭhyajaṃ kāyakarma kāyavaṅka ityucyate| kuṭilānvayatvāt| evaṃ śāṭhyajaṃ vāṅmanaskarma vāṅmanovaṅka ityucyate| dveṣajāḥ punasta eva trayo doṣā ityākhyāyante, cittapradoṣānvayatvāt| rāgajaṃ punaḥ kāyakarma kāyakaṣāya ityuktaṃ rañjanātmakatvāt| evaṃ vāṅmanaḥkaṣāyau draṣṭavyau| tāni punaḥ kuśalāni kāyavāṅmaṇa(na)skarmāṇi trīṇi sucaritāni boddhavyāni| etānyeva trīṇi śauceyāṇyu(nyu)ktāni|

aśaikṣasantāne trīṇi mauneyānyucyante| tatra kāyasucaritaṃ kāyamauneyaṃ vāksucaritaṃ vāṅmauneyaṃ mana eva tu mithyāsaṃkalpoparamānmunirityākhyāyate| taduparamāddhi kāyavāgjalpoparamo bhavati| muneridaṃ mauneyamiti niruktiḥ|
kasmātpunararhata eva mauneyāṇi(ni) ? tasya paramārthamunitvāt| sa khalu sarvakleśajalpoparamānmunirityucyate|

eṣā punarmauṇe(ne)yaśauceyadeśanā mithyāmaunaśaucābhiyuktānadhikṛtyadeśiteti tadetatsaha mauneyaśauceyarnirdiṣyate||

[189] śubhaṃ tatsā'nabhidhyādi proktaṃ sucaritatrayam|
dvayaṃmaulamadaḥ karma mārgā daśa śubhāśubhāḥ||

dvayaṃ punaretatsucaritaduścaritākhyaṃ yanmaulaṃ te daśa śubhāścāśubhāśca karmapathā bhavanti prayogapṛṣṭhavarjyāḥ|

tatra kāyasucaritasya pradeśaḥ pṛyogapṛṣṭhākhyo madyādiviratidānejyādikaḥ| vāksucaritasya pṛ(pri)yavacanādikaḥ| manaḥsucaritasya śubhā cetanā|

kāyaduścaritasyāpi pareṣāṃ jīvitabhogadārā'[pahāra]prayogapṛṣṭhākhyaḥ| vāgduścaritasyāpyapṛ(pri)yavacanādyākhyaḥ| manoduścaritasyāpyakuśalaṃ manaskarmai..................steṣāṃ nātyaudārikatvāt|

yastu prāṇātipātādattādānakāmamithyācāraviratyākhyau(khyo) maulaḥ sa kuśalaḥ karmapathaḥ, tasyaudārikatvena mahānuśaṃsatamaphalatvāt| yastu pareṣāṃ jīvitabhogaparadārāpahārakāyaparispandaḥ sa maulaḥ sa cākuśalaḥ karmapathaḥ| evaṃ yathāsaṃbhavamanyeṣāṃ draṣṭavyamiti||

tṛtīyapādaḥ|

idamidānīṃ vaktavyam| ye ete daśakarmapathā eṣāṃ kati vijñaptisvabhāvāḥ katyavijñaptisvabhāvāḥ katyubhayasvabhāvāḥ ?

tatrākuśalānāṃ tāvat-

[190] kāritāḥ ṣaḍavijñaptirdvyātmaikaste'pi ṣaṭ kṛtāḥ|

tatra prāṇātipātādattādānamṛṣāvādapaiśūnyapāruṣyasaṃbhinnapralāpāḥ| ete nāvaśyaṃ vijñaptisvabhāvāḥ| pareṇa kārayato maulīvijñaptyabhāvāt| kāmamithyācārastu nityaṃ dvyātmakaḥ, tasya pareṇāśakyatvāt| te'pi ‘ṣaṭ kṛtāḥ, yadā svayameva prāṇātipātādīn ṣaṭ karmapathān karoti tadā dvyātmāno bhavanti| vijñaptyavijñaptisvabhāvatvāt|

kuśalānāṃ punaḥ
śubhāḥ sapta dvidhā jñeyā ekavai(dhai)te samāhitāḥ||

sapta khalu rūpiṇaḥ kuśalāḥ karmapathāḥ dvidhā bhavanti| vijñaptyadhīnatvāt samāhitaśīlasya| dhyānānāsravasaṃvarasaṃgṛhītāstvavijñaptisvabhāvā eva| samāhitasya vijñaptyabhāvāt|

[191] yā sāmanteṣvavijñaptiḥ pṛṣṭheṣu tu viparyayaḥ|

sāmantakaḥ khalu yadā tīvreṇa paryavasthānena prayogamārabhate, prasādena vā ghanarasena tadā dvisvabhāvā| yadā mṛdunā tadā vijñaptireva| viparyayeṇa tu pṛṣṭheṣvavaśyamavijñaptiḥ| yadi punaḥ karmapathaṃ kṛtvā punastatravānuceṣṭate syādvijñaptirapīti| tīvreṇa tu prahāreṇa jīvitādvyaparopayati| tatra yā vijñaptistatkṣaṇikā cāvijñaptiḥ sa maulaḥ karmapathaḥ| dvābhyāṃ hi kāraṇābhyāṃ prāṇātipātāvadyena spṛśyate| prayogataḥ phalaparipūritaśca| tata ūrdhvamavijñaptikṣaṇaḥ(ṇāḥ) pṛṣṭhībhavanti| yāvaddhataṃ paśuṃ kṛṣṇāti śodhayati vikrīṇāti pacati khādati kīrtayati| yadi tāvadasya vijñaptikṣaṇā api pṛṣṭhaṃ bhavanti| evamanyeṣvapi yathāsaṃbhavaṃ yojyam|

abhidhyādīnāṃ nāsti prayogo na pṛṣṭhaṃ saṃmukhībhāvamātrādeva karmapathāḥ|

sūtre bhagavatoktam-“prāṇātipāto bhikṣavastrividhaḥ| lobhajo dveṣaja mohajaḥ, yāvanmithyādṛṣṭiḥ” iti| tatraiṣāṃ karmapathānāṃ keṣāñcillobhena niṣṭhā, keṣāñcid dveṣeṇa, keṣāñcinmohena| sarveṣāmapi

prayogasteṣāmakuśalamūlatrayājjātaḥ| tatra lobhajaḥ prāṇātipātastaccharīrāvayavārthaṃ mṛgalubdhānāmaurabhrikamātsikaśākuntakādīnāṃ ca| dveṣajo yathā vairaṇi(ni)ryātanārtham| mohajo yājñikāṇāṃ(nāṃ) dharmabuddhyā rājñāṃ ca dharmapāṭhakaprāmānyā(ṇyā)ddhiṃsatām| pārasīkādīnāṃ ca dharmabuddhyā mātaraṃ pitaramabhighnatām|

lobhajamadattādānaṃ yastenārthī taddharati| dveṣajaṃ vairaniryātanārtham| mohajaṃ yathā rājñāṃ dharmapāṭhakaprāmāṇyād dṛṣṭaṇi(ni)grahārtham| yathā ca duṣṭabrāhmaṇā āhuḥ-“sarvamidaṃ prajāpatinā brāhmaṇebhyo dattaṃ brāhmaṇānāṃ daurbalyādvṛṣalāḥ paribhuñjante| tasmādapaharan brāhmaṇaḥ svamādatte svameva tu koṣṭhaṃ vaste svaṃ dadāti” iti|

lobhajaḥ kāmamithyācāraḥ paradārādiṣu tatsaṃrāgādabrahmacaryam| dveṣajo vairaṇi(ni)ryātanārtham| mohajo yathā pārasīkānāṃ mātrādigamanam| gosave ca yajñe “upahā uadakaṃ cūṣayati, tṛṇāni cchinatti, upaiti mātaramupasvasāramupasa[gotrā]di(mi)ti|”

mṛṣāvādādayo lobhajā dveṣajāśca yathā pūrvamuktam| mohajo mṛṣāvādo yathāha-

“na narmayuktamanṛtaṃ hinasti
na strīṣu rājanna vivāhakāle|

prāṇātyaye tsa(sa)rvadhanāpahāre
pañcānṛtānyāhurapātakāni||” iti|

paiśūnyādayastu mithyādṛṣṭipravartitā mohajā yaśca vedādyasacchāstrapralāpaḥ|

abhidhyādayastu lobhādanantarasaṃbhūtatvāt trimūlajāḥ|

[192] [kuśalāḥ prayogapṛṣṭhāśca kuśalatrayamūlajāḥ]|

kuśalānāṃ tu prayogaḥ pṛṣṭhaṃ ca trimūlottham| teṣāṃ kuśalacittasamutthitatvāt, tatra ca tadbhāvāt|

kena punareṣāṃ karmapathānāṃ samāptirbhavati ? tadidamapadiśyate-

dveṣeṇa vadhapāruṣyavyāpattīnāṃ samāpanam||

prāṇātipātapāruṣyavyāpādānāṃ khalu dveṣeṇa niṣṭhā bhavati| parityāgaparuṣacittasaṃmukhībhāvāt||

[193] steyasyānyāṅganāyāterabhidhyāyāśca lobhataḥ|

adattādānaparastrīgamanābhidhyānāṃ lobhena niṣṭhā|

mithyādṛśastu mohena

mithyādṛṣṭeḥ khalu mohena samāptirbhavati| adhimātramūḍhābhihitāṃ niṣṭhāpayati|

tadanyeṣāṃ tribhirmatam||

ke punaranye ? mṛṣāvādapaiśunyasaṃbhinnapralāpāḥ| teṣāṃ tribhirapi niṣṭhā lobhena dveṣeṇa moheṇa(na) vā||

athaiṣāṃ caturṇāṃ kāṇḍānāṃ kimadhiṣṭhāṇāṃ(nam) ? taducyate-

[194] caturṇāmapyadhiṣṭhānaṃ jñeyameṣāṃ yathākramam|
prāṇinaścātha bhogāśca nāmarūpaṃ ca nāma ca||

tatra sattvādhiṣṭhānā vadhādayaḥ| bhogādhiṣṭhāṇāḥ(nāḥ) parastrīgamanādayaḥ| nāmarūpādhiṣṭhānā mithyādṛṣṭiḥ| nāmakāyādhiṣṭhāṇā(nā) mṛṣāvādādayaḥ||

kathaṃ punaḥ prāṇātipātaṃ svayaṃ kurvataḥ karmapatho bhavati kathaṃ yāvanmithyādṛṣṭiriti ? lakṣaṇaṃ karmapathānāṃ vaktavyam| tadārabhyate-

[195] prāṇātipāto dhīpūrvamabhrāntyā paramāraṇam|

yadi khalu haniṣyāmi hanmyenamiti saṃcintyābhrāntacittaḥ paraṃ jīvitādvyaparopayati, evaṃ prāṇātipāto bhavati| prāṇo vā vāyuḥ kāyacittāśrito vartate| tamatipātayatīti prāṇātipātaḥ|

na, anupapatteḥ| vināśānuṣaktā khalu saṃskārāḥ pratikṣaṇavinaśvarāścābhyupagamyante| teṣāmitthaṃbhūtānāṃ sthitiśaktikriyā'bhāve satyanāgatānāṃ ca tulyātulyajātīyānāṃ nirātmakatvāviśeṣe kena hantrā kimāpadyate ?

atra sautrāntikāḥ parihāramāhuḥ- “na| pradīpaṇi(ni)rvāpaṇa(na)ghaṇṭaśabdanirodhavattatsiddheḥ|”

na, samānatvāt| ayaṃ tvatra parihāraḥ-hanturhetusāmarthyopaghātakaraṇe satyanāgatasaṃskāraśaktikriyādhānavidhānavighnakaraṇāt prāṇātipātopapattiḥ| kasya punastajjīvitaṃ yastena viyojyate, te vā prāṇā iti ? prasiddhasya pudgalasya yo'sāvevaṃ nāmaivaṃ gotra iti vistaraḥ|

abuddhipūrvādapi prāṇivadhātkarturadharmo bhavati yathā'gnisparśāddāha iti nagnāṭāḥ| teṣāṃ paradāradarśaṇa(na)sparśane'pyeṣa prasaṃgaḥ| tuṣṭaruṣṭanagnāṭavāhlīkanirgranthaśiroluñcane ca|

buddhipūrvātprāni(ṇi)vadhāddharmo'pi bhavatīti yājñikāḥ| katham viṣabhakṣaṇavat| tadyathā kiñcidviṣabhakṣaṇaṃ mantrapūrvaṃ hitāya bhavati| kiñcidahitāya yadamantrapūrvaṃ tadvaditi| na| galāmreḍanaśastranipātamantareṇa mantramātrakena paśuvadhasāmarthyādarśaṇā(nā)t| piṣṭamayacchāgā hutimātreṇa paśuvadhādiyajñadharmotpattyasāmarthyācca| kiñca, viṣasya māraṇajīvitaśaktidvayasāmarthyadarśaṇā(nā)t| tatra mantrapūrvakaṃ kiñcijjīvayati kiñciddurgatāriṣṭeṣu na jīvayati| amantrapūrvakamapi kiñcījjīvayati kiñcinna jīvayati| [bhukta]viṣasyāpekṣi[ka]tvāt| kiñca, śabarādimantrāṇāṃ viṣamāraṇāśaktyupaghāte'pi pāpapraṇāśanaśaktyadarśaṇā(nā)t| kiñca, hiṃsāhiṃsayordharmādharmasvālakṣaṇyāparityāgabhūtatvāt| juhotyādikriyāvyaṅgyo dharmaḥ iti cet| na| tadrūpāsiddhatvāt, abhivyaktyanupapatteśca| kriyāmātramapūrvamiti cet| na| kriyāyā nityatvānupapatterniruktyanupapatteśca||

atyaktā'nyadhanādānamadattādānamucyate||

abhrāntyeti vartate| yadi balacauryabuddhyā paradravyaṃ svīkaroti||

[196] parastrīgamanaṃ kāmamithyācāro vikalpavān|

agamyagamanaṃ khalvapi kāmamithyācāraḥ| sa ca bahuprakāravikalpo bhavati| agamyāṃ gacchati mātaraṃ vā duhitaraṃ vā paraparigṛhītaṃ(tāṃ) vā svāmapyanaṅge gacchatyadeśe ca| niyamasthāṃ vā| abhrāntyetyuktam|

arthajñāyā'nyathāvādo drohabuddhyā mṛṣāvacaḥ||

vaktṛṃ(ktṛ)śrotṛbuddhyapekṣayā khalu mṛṣāvādo bhavati| yadi vaktā'rthānāmabhijño bhavati sa taṃ vigopya drohabuddhyā'nyathā brūte| śrotā ca tathaivāvagacchati| tadāsya mṛṣāvādaḥ kamapatho bhavati||

ye khalvime māhakīmātṛsūtrā diṣvaṣṭāvanāryā vyavahārāḥ proktāḥ, aṣṭau cāryāḥ-“adṛṣṭe dṛṣṭavāditā'nāryo vyavahāraḥ| aśrute, amate, avijñāte, śrutamatavijñātavāditā'nāryo vyavahāraḥ| dṛṣṭaśrutamatavijñāte cādṛṣṭādivāditā'nāryo vyavahāraḥ| viparyayeṇa tvaṣṭāvevāryā vyavahārāḥ|” teṣāṃ punaridaṃ lakṣaṇaṃ vyākhyāyate-

[197] dṛṣṭayā śrutyādibhiścākṣairmaṇa(na)sā yacca gṛhyate|
dṛṣṭaṃ śrutaṃ mataṃ jñātamityuktaṃ tadyathākramam||

yatkhalu cakṣuṣā'locitaṃ cakṣurvijñānamanovijñānābhyāṃ cānubhūtaṃ taddṛṣṭamityucyate| yacchrotreṇa śrotramanovijñānābhyāṃ cānubhūtaṃ tacchrutam| yat tribhirghrāṇajihvākāyaistadvijñānamanovijñānaiścānubhūtaṃ tanmatamityucyate| teṣāṃ prāpyaviṣayagrāhitvāt, kabaḍiṃkārāhāraviṣayatvācca| tatreṣṭaparyāyavācī mataśabdaḥ| yatpunarmanovijñānenānubhūtaṃ tadvijñātaṃ tadadhyavasāye niścayaparisamāpteḥ|

gatametat| prakṛtamevānuvartatām||

yaḥ kāyenānyathātvaṃ prāpayet, syānmṛṣāvādaḥ ? syāt| tadapadiśyate-syānna kāyenna(na) parākrameta prāṇātipātāvadyena ca spṛśyeta| syādvācā parākrameta syānna vācā parākrameta mṛṣāvādāvadyena ca spṛśyeta| syātkāyena parākrameta, syānna kāyena vācā parākrameta, ubhayāvadyena ca spṛśyeta| syādṛṣīṇāṃ manaḥpradoṣeṇa proṣadhanidarśaṇaṃ(naṃ) cātra iti|

kathaṃ punarvijñaptyā vinā tatrāvijñaptiḥ kāmāvacarī karmapatho yokṣyate| sati hi cittaparispande mahābhūtatajjakāyaparispando'vaśyaṃ bhāvīti kartavyo'tra yatnaḥ|

[198] paiśunyaṃ bhedakṛdvākyaṃ

yatkhalu kliṣṭacittasya parabhedāya vacanamabhrāntyā tatpaiśunyamityucyate|

pāruṣyaṃ tu yadapriyam|

abhrāntyā kliṣṭacittasya yadvacanaṃ tatpārūṣyamiti|

kliṣṭaṃ saṃbhinnalāpitvamanye gītakathādivat||

kliṣṭaṃ khalu sarvaṃ vacanaṃ saṃbhinnapralāpitvam| yasya guṇasya bhāvād dravye śabdaniveśastabhidhāne tvatalau| kaścāsau guṇaḥ ? saṃbhinnapralāpa eva| sa yasyāsti sa saṃbhinnapralāpī| tadbhāvaḥ saṃbhinnapralāpitvam|

anye punarbruvate| yadetanmṛṣāvādāditribidhaṃ vacanaṃ tato yadanyatkliṣṭaṃ lapanagītanāṭyatīrthaśāstrādi tatsarvaṃ sabhinnapralāpaḥ||

[199] parasvāsatspṛhā'bhidhyā vyāpā[daḥ] sattvagocaraḥ|
vidveṣānā'nantadṛṣṭistu mithyādṛṣṭi[rahetukā]||

abhidhyā tāvad dviṣataḥ spṛhā| aho bata yatpareṣāṃ tanmama syādityeṣā viṣayaprārthaṇā(nā) viṣamalobhākhyā abhidhyetyucyate|

vyāpādaḥ khalvapi sattvaparityāgabudhyā pratighaḥ|

mithyādṛṣṭirapi hetuṃ vā phalaṃ vā kriyāṃ vā sadvā vastu nāśayataḥ yā dṛṣṭirmatirityevamādi sā mithyādṛṣṭirityucyate|

tayā punarmithyādṛṣṭyā prakarṣaprāptayā navaprakārayā navaprakārāṇi kuśalamūlāni samucchidyante| bhāvanāheyakleśaprahāṇavat|

yattarhi śāstra uktam-“katamānyadhimātrāṇyakuśalamūlāni yairakuśalamūlaiḥ kuśalamūlāni samucchinatti ? kāmavairāgyaṃ cānuprāpnuvan yāni tatprathamata upalikhati ?” naiṣa doṣaḥ| akuśalamūlādhyāhṛtatvāt| mithyādṛṣṭesteṣveva tatkarmopacaryate| tadyathā'gnireva grāmasya dagdhā caurāstu tasyādhyāhārakāstadvaditi|

kāmāvacarāṇyupapattilambhikānyeva ca samucchidyante, prāyogikebhyaḥ pūrva(rvaṃ) parihīṇatvāt|

evaṃ hyūktaṃ bhagavatā-“samanvāgato'yaṃ puruṣaḥ kuśalairapi dharmairakuśalairapi dharmaiḥ” iti vistaraḥ| tatra samanvāgato'yaṃ pudgalaḥ kuśalairapi dharmairaviśeṣeṇa dvividhaiḥ-prāyogikairupapattilābhikaiśca| te'sya pudgalasya kuśalā dharmā antardhāsyanti, prāyogikāḥ anupūrvasamucchede, pūrvaṃ tadvihāneḥ| asti cāsya kuśalamūlamanusahagatamanupacchinnamupapattilābhikam| tadapyapareṇa samayeṇa sarveṇa sarvaṃ samucchetsyate| yasya samucchedātsamucchinnakuśalamūla iti saṃkhyāṃ gamiṣyatīti| ataḥ sarvākuśalamūlabhūtā mithyādṛṣṭiriti saugatāḥ|

“sūkṣmaṃ kuśaladharmabījaṃ tasminnakuśale cetasyavasthitaṃ yataḥ punaḥ pratyayasāmagrīsannidhāne sati kuśalaṃ cittamutpadyate” iti kośakāraḥ|

yuktyāgamavirodhāttanneti dīpakāraḥ|

tatra yuktivirodhastāvadvijātīyāddhetorvijātīya phalānutpattidarśaṇā(nā)dyavabījācchāliphalavadyoniśo manasikāraparataḥ sadghoṣābhyāṃ mithyādṛṣṭivacca| cakṣūrūpābhyāṃ vijñānavaditi cet| na| sabhāgahetau sati cakṣūrūpayornimittakāraṇamātratvā[t], dadhyutpattāvātañcanavat| kiñca, viruddhānāmanyataropapatteśca| na hi viruddhānāṃ sukhaduḥkhālokatamaḥprabhṛtīnāṃ caikatra [saṃbhavada]vasthānaṃ dṛṣṭam| nāpi parasparaṃ bījaphalābhisaṃbandhaḥ| kiñca, cittabījaikatvābhyupagamācca| akuśalameva hi cittaṃ bhavatāṃ jīva(bīja)miṣṭam| tasya kuśale cittakṣaṇe viruddhakriye ca cittāntare bījaleśānupapattiḥ| uktottaratvācca| vistareṇa hyatrottaramuktam| tatsmaryatāmiti|

āgamavirodho'pi, “sarvaṃ sarveṇa cche[tsya te” iti ...........cya]mānaṃ bījamavasthitaṃ gaṃsyate| iti|

vyākhyātāḥ salakṣaṇāḥ karmapathāḥ||

kaḥ punaḥ salakṣaṇaḥ karmapathārthaḥ ? karma ca karmaṇaśca cetanākhyasya panthāna iti karmapathāḥ| tatra sapta karma ca karmaṇaśca panthā[i]ti karmapathāḥ, trayastvabhidhyādayaḥ karmaṇaḥ panthāno na karma| cetanā [hi tat saṃprayogiṇī bhavati |] saṃprayuktā[tadvaṣe(śe)ṇa(na)gaccha]tyabhisaṃskarotītyarthaḥ| sā tu karmaiva na karmapathaḥ| na hyasau trayāṇāṃ vaśena vartate| idamucyate-

[200] cetanā na kriyāmārgastaistu sattā pravartate|

katibhiḥ punaḥ karmapathaiḥ sārdhaṃ cetanā yugapadutpannā vartate ? tadārabhyate-

yugapadyāva[daṣṭā]bhiraśubhaiścetanaiḥ saha||

[ekena tāvatsaha vartate| vinānyenābhidhyādisaṃmukhībhāve akliṣṭacetaso vā tatprayogeṇa rūpiṇāmanyatamaniṣṭhāgamane|

dvābhyāṃ saha vartate| vyāpannacittasya prāṇivadye| abhidhyāviṣṭasya cādattādāne kāmamithyācāre saṃbhinnapralāpe vā|

tribhiḥ saha| vyāpannacittasya parakīyaprāṇimāraṇāpaharaṇe yugapat| abhidhyāviṣṭasya tatprayogeṇa rūpi[dvayaniṣṭhāgamane tribhireva]|

[caturbhiḥ saha vartate| bhedā]bhiprāyasya nandanavacane paruṣavacane vā| tatra hi mānasa eko bhavati vācikāstrayaḥ| abhidhyādigatasya vā tatprayoge'ṇya(nya)trayanni(ni)ṣṭhāgamane|

evaṃ pañcaṣaṭi(ṭ)saptabhiryojyam|

aṣṭābhiḥ saha varte(rta)ta(te)| ṣaṭsu prayogaṃ kṛtvā pare saṃpreṣaṇena svayaṃ kāmamithyācāraṃ kurvataḥ samaniṣṭhāgamane| evaṃ [tāvadakuśalaḥ]||

[201] [śubhaistu] daśabhiryāvatsārvaṃ(rdhaṃ) naikāṣṭapañcabhiḥ|

śubhaiḥ khalu karmapathairyāvaddaśabhiḥ saha vartata ityutsṛṣṭiḥ| tadapavādoyam-‘naikāṣṭapañcabhiḥ’| na khalvekena pañcabhiraṣṭābhirvā saha vartate|

tatra dvābhyāṃ saha vartate| kuśaleṣu pañcasu vijñāneṣu sthitasyārūpyasamāpattisaṃgṛhīte ca kṣayānutpādajñānasaṃprayuktāvijñānaṃ tatsaṃ[prayuktā ca] prajñānadṛṣṭiriti|

tribhiḥ saha vartate| samyagdṛṣṭisaṃprayukte manovijñāne| yatra saṃvaro ṇā(nā)sti|

caturbhirakuśalāvyākṛtacittasyopāsakasya śrāmaṇerasaṃvarasamādāne|

ṣaḍbhiḥ kuśaleṣu pañcasu vijñāneṣu tatsamādāne|

saptabhiḥ kuśale manovijñāne tatsamādāna eva| akuśalāvyākṛtacittasya [ca bhikṣu]saṃvarasamādāne|

[navabhiḥ] kuśaleṣu pañcasu vijñāneṣu tatsamādāne, kṣayānutpādajñānasaṃprayukte ca manovijñāne tasminneva ca dhyānasaṃgṛhīte|

daśabhistato'nyatra kuśale manovijñāne bhikṣusaṃvarasamādāna eva| sarvā ca dhyānānāsravasaṃvarasamāvartinī cetanā'nyatra kṣayānutpādajñānābhyām| saṃvara[nirmuktena tvekenāpi saha syādanyacittasyai] kāṅgaviratisamādāne| pañcāṣṭābhirapi syāt| kuśalamanovijñānasya dvipañcāṅgasamādāne yugapat|

kasyāṃ punargatau kati kuśalāścākuśalāśca karmapathāḥ saṃmukhībhāvataḥ samanvāgato vā santīti ?

vilāpadveṣapāruṣyāṇyu(ṇi)ṣa (sa)nti narake dvidhā||

ete trayaḥ saṃbhinnapralāpapārūṣyavyāpādā nārake [saṃmukhībhāva] taḥ samanvāgamataśca vidyante|

[202] tadvadeva matā'bhidhyā mithyādṛṣṭistathaiva ca|

kecitkhalu bruvate-abhighyā mithyādṛṣṭiścāpi dvābhyāṃ prakārābhyāṃ vidyete|

anye punarāhuḥ- samanvāgamata evābhidhyāmithyādṛṣṭī vidyete| rañjanīyavastvabhāvāt, karmaphalapratyakṣatvācca|

taccaitadakāraṇam| tatra tāvattṛṣṇā'vidyā'dhimātratamatvāditi [pūrva]mapākṣikaḥ|

abhidhyāditrayaṃ tadvatkurau pralapanaṃ dvidhā||

kurau khalvevameva trayo'bhidhyāvyāpādamithyādṛṣṭayaḥ|

anye punarāhuḥ-samānvāgamata eva na saṃmukhībhāvataḥ amamāparigrahatvāt, snigdhasantānatvādāghātavastvabhāvādapāpāśayatvācca||

[203] aśubhāstu daśānyatra

narakottarakurubhyāṃ kāmadhātau dvābhyāṃ prakārābhyāṃ daśāśubhā vidyante|

sarvatra kuśalāstrayaḥ|

śubhāstu ‘trayaḥ’| trayo'nabhidhyā'vyāpādasamyagdṛṣṭayaḥ sarvatra traidhātuke pañcasvapi gatiṣu dvābhyāṃ prakārābhyāṃ santīti|

ārūpyā'ryā'saṃjñināṃ ca rūpiṇaḥ sapta lābhataḥ||

ārūpyeṣu khalvāryāṇāmevātītānāgatenānāsravasaṃvareṇa samanvāgamo'styasaṃjñināṃ ca| dhyānasaṃvareṇa yāvadbhūbhyāśrayaṃ hyanāsravaśīlamārya utpāditanirodhitaṃ kṛtvā ārūpyeṣūpapanno bhavati tenātītena samanvāgato bhavati| ṣaḍbhūbhyāśrayeṇānāgatenāpi, na tu saṃmukhībhāvataḥ, ārūpyāṇāṃ catuskandhātmakatvādasaṃjñisattvāṇāṃ(nāṃ) cācittakatvāt| bhūtacittapratibaddho hi tatsaṃvarasaṃmukhībhāvaḥ||

[204] kurūnsanarakānhitvā sarvatrānyatra te dvidhā|

kurūn hitvā narakāṃśca| anyatra gatau saṃmukhībhāvato hyete sapta kuśalāḥ karmapathā vidyante| saṃvaranirmuktā eva tu tiryakpreteṣu| saṃvarasaṃgṛhītā eva rūpadhātāvanyatrobhayathā|

te khalvete dvividhā karmapathāḥ

sarve vipākaniṣyandādhipatyaphaladā daśa||

tatrākuśalaiḥ sarvairāsevitairbhāvitairbahulīkṛtairnarakeṣūpapadyate tadeṣāṃ vipākaphalam| saceditthatvamāgacchati sa manuṣyāṇāṃ sabhāgatām, prāṇātipātenālpāyuṣko bhavati| adattādānena bhogavyasanī| kāmamithyācāreṇa sapatnadāraḥ| mṛṣāvādenābhyākhyānabahulaḥ| paiśūnyenādṛḍhamitraḥ| pāruṣyenā(ṇā)manojñaśabdaśrāvī| saṃbhinnapralāpenānādeyavākyaḥ| abhighyayā tīvrarāgaḥ| vyāpādena tīvradveṣaḥ| mithyādṛṣṭyā tīvramohaḥ| itīdameṣāṃ ṇi(ni)ṣyandaphalam|

prāṇātipātenātyāsevitena bāhyā bhāvā alpaujaskā bhavanti| adattādānena parīttaphalā alpasasyā aśanibahulāḥ| kāmamithyācāreṇa rajo'vakīrṇāḥ| mṛṣāvādena durgandhāḥ| paiśūnyenotkūlanikūlāḥ| pāruṣyena(ṇa) duḥsparśāḥ kaṇḍukaprāyāśca| saṃbhinnapralāpena viṣamapariṇāmāḥ| abhidhyayā pacitaphalāḥ| vyāpādena kaṭukarmaphalāḥ| mithyādṛṣṭyā bījādapakṛṣṭaphalā aphalā vā| idameṣāmādhipatyaphalam|

[205] duḥkhopasaṃhṛterduḥkhamalpāyuṣṭvantu māraṇāt|
tejonāśātkṛśaujastvamidaṃ tattrividhaṃ phalam||

yattena parasya duḥkhā vedanā janitā tatonarakeṣūpapadyate| yadiṣṭaṃ jīvitamupacchinnaṃ tato'lpāyuḥ| yattejo nāśitaṃ tena bāhyā bhāvāḥ kṛśaujasaḥ| evamanyeṣāmapi yojyam|

kuśalānāmapi karmapathānāmevameva tatphalatrayaṃ viparyayeṇa lakṣayitavyam| prāṇivadhaviratyā sevitayā deveṣūpapadyate| saceditthatvamāgacchati manuṣyāṇāṃ sabhāgatāṃ dīrghāyurbhavati| tadādhipatyenaiva bāhyā bhāvā mahojaso bhavantīti| sarvaṃ viparyayeṇa draṣṭavyam||

atra pūrvaṃ yāṇi(ni) pañca phalānyuktāni teṣāṃ kataratkarma katibhiḥ phalaiḥ saphalam ?

[206] ānantaryapathe karma phalavatpañcabhiḥ phalaiḥ|
caturbhistvamalenāryaṃ tadvadanyacchabhāśubham||

prahāṇamārge samale pañcabhiḥ phalaiḥ karma saphalaṃ bhavati| tulyā adhikā api tasya paścādutpannāḥ sadaśā dharmā ṇi(ni)ṣyandaphalam| vipākaphalaṃ svabhūminiyato vipākaḥ| visaṃyogaphalaṃ yatkleśaprahāṇam| puruṣakāraphalaṃ ye tadbalasamutpannā dharmāḥ| na tathā sahabhuvaḥ| yaccānantarotpanno vimuktimārgaḥ, yaccānāgataṃ bhāvyate, yacca tatprahāṇaṃ tadbalena hi tatprāptyu pattiḥ| adhipatiphalaṃ svabhāvādanye sarvasaṃskārāḥ pūrvotpanna varjjā iti draṣṭavyam| prahāṇamapi tanmārgasyādhipatiphalaṃ yujyate| tadādhipatyena tatsākṣātkaraṇādityanye| yattu nirmalaprahāṇamārge karma taccaturbhiḥ phalaiḥ saphalaṃ vipākaphalaṃ muktvā| ‘tadvadanyacchubhāśubham|’ anyadapi sāsravaṃ yacchubhāśubham, yacca prahāṇamārgādanyatkuśalasāsravaṃ[karmaṃ] yaccākuśalaṃ tadapi caturbhireva phalaiḥ saphalaṃ visaṃyogaphalaṃ tyaktvā||

[207] tato'nyannirmalaṃ jñeyaṃ tribhiravyākṛtaṃ tathā|

śeṣaṃ punaraṇā(nā)sravaṃ yatprahāṇamārgādanyat, yaccāvyākṛtaṃ tattribhirvipāka[vi]saṃyogaphalaṃ muktvā|

phalaṃ śubhasya catvāri dve trīṇi ca śubhādayaḥ||

akuśalasya karmaṇaḥ kuśalā dharmā dve puruṣakārādhipatiphale| akuśalāstrīṇi vipākavisaṃyogaphale hitvā| avyākṛtāścatvāri visaṃyogaphalaṃ hitvā| avyākṛtamapi hyakuśalānāṃ niṣyandaphalamasti| yathā kāmāvacare satkāyāntargrāhadṛṣṭī| sarveṣāṃ duḥkhadarśaṇa(na)prahātavyāṇāṃ(nāṃ) samudayadarśaṇa(na)prahātavyāṇāṃ(nāṃ) ca sarvatragāṇā(nā)m|

avyākṛtasya te tu dve trīṇi trīṇi śubhādayaḥ||

avyākṛtasya karmaṇaḥ kuśalā dharmāḥ dve puruṣakārādhipatiphale| akuśalāstrīṇi visaṃyogaphale hitvā| avyākṛtasya tānyeva trīṇi||

[209] sarve catvāryatītasya madhyamasya ca bhāvinaḥ|
maghyamā dve svakasyaiva trīṇyanāgāmijanmanaḥ||

tatra ‘sarve’ iti traikālikāḥ| atītasya karmaṇo'tītānāgatapratyutpannā dharmāścatvāri phalāni visaṃyogamapāsya| pratyutpannasyāpi karmaṇo'nāgatā dharmāścatvāri phalānyetānyeva| vartamānāstu dharmā vartamānasya karmaṇaḥ dve puruṣakārādhipatiphale| ajātasya tvajātā dharmāstrīṇi phalāni niṣyandavisaṃyogaphale hitvā||

[210] catvāryekabhuvo dve vā trīṇi cāparabhūmikāḥ|

svabhūmikā dharmāḥ karmaṇo yathāsaṃbhavaṃ catvāri phalāni visaṃyogaphalaṃ hitvā| anyabhūmikā dharmāḥ te cedanāsravāstrīṇi, vipākavisaṃyogaphale hitvā| niṣyandaphalaṃ hyadhātupatitānāmanyabhūmikaṃ na vāryate| sāsravāśced dve, puruṣakārādhipatiphale|

śaikṣādyāstrīṇi śaikṣasya ta evāśaikṣakarmaṇaḥ||

śaikṣasya karmaṇaḥ śaikṣā dharmāstrīṇi phalāni, vipākavisaṃyogaphale hitvā| aśaikṣā apyevam| naivaśaikṣāṇā(nā)śaikṣāstrīṇyeva niṣyandavipākaphale hitvā||

aśaikṣasya tu karmaṇaḥ

[211] ekaṃ trīṇi dvayaṃ caiva śaikṣādyāḥ paścimasya tu|
dve dve pañca yathāsaṃkhyaṃ

aśaikṣasya khalu karmaṇaḥ śaikṣā dharmā ekamadhipatiphalam, aśaikṣāstrīṇi vipākāvisaṃyogaphale hitvā| naivaśaikṣāṇā(nā)śaṃkṣā dve puruṣakārādhipatiphale| naivaśaikṣānāśaikṣāṇāṃ punaḥ śaikṣā dharmā dve puruṣākārādhipatiphale| evamaśaikṣāḥ| naivaśaikṣānāśaikṣāḥ pañcaphalāni|

dṛggheyasya tu karmaṇaḥ||

[212] trīṇi catvāri caikaṃ ca dṛṣṭiheyādayaḥ smṛtāḥ|

darśaṇa(na)heyasya khalu karmaṇaḥ darśaṇa(na)heyā dharmāstrīṇi phalāni, vipākavisaṃyogaphale hitvā| bhāvanāheyāścatvāri, visaṃyogaphalaṃ hitvā| apraheyā ekamadhipatiphalam|

te tvabhyāsapraheyasya dve catvāri tridhā matāḥ||

[213] kramādekadvicatvāri te tvaheyasya karmaṇaḥ|

bhāvanāheyasya khalu karmaṇo darśaṇa(na)heyā dharmāḥ dve, puruṣakārādhipatiphale| bhāvanāheyāścatvāri visaṃyogaphalaṃ hitvā| apraheyāstrīṇi, vipākaniṣyandaphale hitvā| apraheyasya tu karmaṇo darśaṇa(na)prahātavyā dharmā ekamadhipatiphalam| bhāvanāheyā dve, puruṣakārādhipatiphale| apraheyāścatvāri vipākaphalaṃ hitvā||

atha kimekaṃ karmaikaṃ janmākṣipati, athānekam ? tadādarśyate-

ekenākṣipyate[janma] bhūribhiḥ paripūryate||

ekena khalu karmaṇā sakalamekaṃ janmākṣipyate| bahubhistu paripūryate| tadyathā citrakara ekayā vartyā katsnaṃ rūpamākṣipati, bahvībhiḥ paripūrayati tadvaditi|

atha yaduktaṃ bhagavatā-“karmasvako'yaṃ bhikṣavo lokaḥ” iti| tatkeyaṃ karmasvakatā nāma ? tadārabhyate-

[214] kuśalaṃ vā'thavā pāpaṃ yadatītaṃ dadatphalam|
svaṃ kāyavāṅmanaskarma sā karmasvakatā matā||

yatkhalu kāyavāṅmanaskarma svayaṃ kṛtaṃ kuśalākuśalamabhyatītaṃ dadatphalaṃ sā karmasvakatā draṣṭavyā||

kathaṃ punaḥ pratikṣaṇabhidureṣu saṃskāreṣu parasparākṛtasaṅketeṣu satsu, asati ca nitye karttari bhoktari ca karmasvakatā'bhidhīyate ? tadatra pratisamādhīyate-

[215] saṃvṛtyā skandhasantāne tatkriyāphaladarśaṇā(nā)t|
karttṛtā bhoktṛtā coktā niṣiddhā śāśvatasya tu||

svātmābhyudayaviśeṣārthaḥ khalu karmārabhyate| kaścidahaṃ viśiṣṭajñānavijñānasaukhyarūpakāntilāvaṇya(ṇya)sauṣṭhavayuktaṃ janma pratilabheyeti| śāśvate tvātmani niṣkriye pūrvapaścādviśeṣābhāvāt karttṛtvaṃ cātyantāpadhvastayuktividhānam| skandhasantāne tu viśiṣṭaskandhāntarotpattau satyāṃ bījajalābhiṣekādyanugrahā[d] viśiṣṭaphalotpattivaditi| pūrvamevāviṣkṛtametaditi||

idamidānīṃ vaktavyam|

[216] syātkarmasvakatā nāsti tasya ceti catuṣkikā|

syātkhalu karmasvakatā nāpi ca tasya karmaṇo vipāke'vasthita iti catuṣkoṭikā|

prathamā tatphalasthasya vihāṇā(nā)ttasya karmaṇaḥ||

yadi tasya karmaṇaḥ phale'vasthitastacca karma vihīnaṃ bhavati||

[217] dvitīyā tatphalasthasya karmaṇā tena cānvayāt|
tṛtīyobhayayuktasya caturthyanubhayasya tu||

[218] syātkarmasvakatā nāpi tatphalaṃ vedayiṣyati|

dvitīyā catuṣkoṭikā| tatra prathamā koṭiḥ-

tatphalāvasthitasyādyā jñeyā taccarame phale||

[219] dvitīyā dhruvapākasya tadvipākānavasthite|
tṛtīyā dvayasadbhāvā caturthī tūbhayaṃ vinā||

tṛtīyā catuṣkoṭikā-

[220] syātkarmaṇānvitaścaiva no ca tatphalavedanam|

syātkhalu karmaṇā samanvāgato na ca tasya karmaṇaḥ phalaṃ vedayate| catuṣkoṭikā|

ādyā dattavipākena niruddhānāgatādinā||

[221] dvitīyā tu vihīṇe(ne)na dhruvapākena karmaṇā|
tṛtīyā dvayamuktasya caturthī tu dvayādṛte||

atha yadidaṃ śāstri(stre) yogavihitamayogavihitaṃ ca karmoktaṃ tasya kiṃ lakṣaṇam ? tadabhidhīyate-

[222] ayuktavihitaṃ karma kleśopakleśadūṣitam|
śikṣāliṅgādyapetaṃ ca kecidāhurvipaścitaḥ||

yatkiñcitkhalu kliṣṭaṃ kāyavāṅmanaskarma kleśopakleśadūṣitaṃ sarvaṃ tadayogavihitama, ayoniśomanaskārasamutthāpitatvāt| anye punarbruvate-yatkhalu śikṣāvyapetaṃ yathā gantavyaṃ sthātavyamityevamādi, yattu liṅgavacanahīnamasaṃbaddhaṃ nirarthakaṃ ca vākkarma tadayogavihitam| vidhibhraṣṭatvāditi| viparyayādyogavihitaṃ draṣṭavyamiti||

abhidharmadīpe vibhāṣāprabhāyāṃ vṛttau caturthasyādhyāyasya tṛtīyaḥ pādaḥ||

athaitāṃ paramagambhīrāṃ duravabodhāṃ prakṛtipuruṣeśvarādikudarśaṇa(na)timirotsādanakarīṃ karmasvakatāṃ kaḥ svayamabhisaṃbuddhya lokānugrahāya pradarśayatīti ? brūmaḥ| puruṣo(ṣaḥ) tu so bodhisattvaḥ|

sa punaḥ kiṃ cittotpādātprabhṛti bodhisattvo bhavati ? atha lākṣaṇikakarmākṣepeṇa, āhosviccaramabhavika iti ? ata idaṃ prastūyate-

[223] bodhisattvaḥ kuto yāvadavivartyamanā yataḥ|
baghnāti bodhisannāhamaṅgīkṛtvā jagaddhitam||

yataḥ prabhṛti kalyāṇamitraṃ bhagavantaṃ samyaksaṃbuddha[māpa]dya tadupadarśitadakṣiṇamārgaḥ yoniśo manasikārādhiṣṭhitabuddhiḥ kṛtsnaṃ lokamatrāṇamaśaraṇamaparāyaṇaṃ pañcagatimahāvarte jātijarāvyādhimaraṇādiduḥkhakṣārāmbhasi, karmarākṣasādhiṣṭhitatīre, pāpamitrakumbhīrānubaddhabele, rūpādiviṣayavikalpapavanoddhatatṛṣṇātaraṅge, mohakarṇadhāraparibhrāmitabuddhinauke saṃsāramahāsamudre nimagnamavalokya kṛpāviṣṭacetāstadabhyuddharaṇāya vīryabāhumabhiprasārya, avivartyaṃ cittamevamutpādayati-avidyāndha[:]kāropahatabuddhinayano'yaṃ lokaḥ sa mayā samyagdṛṣṭiprabhāvabhāsitena śīlasaṃkrameṇottārayitavyaḥ| pratighabhujaṅgadaṃṣṭrā viṣadūṣito'yaṃ lokaḥ sa mayā maitryāgadena praśamitavyaḥ| tṛṣṇāpiśācīlalitābhibhūtamatirayaṃ lokaḥ sa mayā śamathabalena tṛṣṇānirodhasukhaṃ lambhayitavyaḥ| parāmarśabhūtagrahāviṣṭo'yaṃ lokaḥ sa mayā vimokṣasukhasvastyayanena nirbhayamamṛtapadaṃ praveśayitavyaḥ| mānagiriśikharādhirūḍhabuddhirayaṃ lokaḥ sa mayā karmasvakatājñānavajreṇa mānagirīnvicūrṇya praśāntamānamadāmarśaśāntipade sthāpayitavyaḥ| vicikitsākathaṃkathībhāvaśalyaviddhahṛdayo'yaṃ lokaḥ sa mayā pratītyasamutpādapravicayaśalākayā kāṅkṣāśalyamutpāṭyāmṛtarasaṃ pāyayitavyaḥ| jarāvyādhimaraṇamakaradaṃṣṭrāntargato'yaṃ lokaḥ sa mayā sarvānarthaviyuktaṃ nirvṛtisukhaṃ prāpayitavyaḥ| śraddhādiguṇadhanadaridro'yaṃ lokaḥ sa mayā bodhyaṅgaratnakhacite mahati guṇaiśvaryapade sanniveśayitavyaḥ| ityetasmādavivartyād bodhicittotpādātprabhṛti baudhisattvo vaktavya ityācāryakam||

yattarhi śāstra uktam-“bodhisattvaḥ kutaḥ prabhṛti ? yato lakṣaṇavaipākyaṃ karma karoti” iti| naiṣa doṣaḥ| yasmādasau-

[224] yadā lākṣaṇikaṃ karma prakarotyanapāyagaḥ|
mahākulaḥ samagrākṣaḥ svaparṣatsaṃgrahe rataḥ||

[225] pumāñjātismaro vāgmī prajñāvīryakriyānvitaḥ|

yadā khalvayaṃ puruṣatvajātismaratvādiṣu padasthāneṣu niyatībhato bhavati-

tadā devamanuṣyāṇāmabhivyaktiṃ nigacchati||

ato jñānaprasthāne'smādavagheḥ prabhṛti bodhisattvaḥ anenābhiprāyeṇa paṭhitaḥ|

[226] sa hi tribhirasaṃkhyeyairdharmakāyaguṇārṇavam|
pracinoti tadādhāraṃ kāyaṃ kalpaśatena tu||

[227] dvātriṃśallakṣaṇopetamaśītivyañja nojjvalam|
dviṣatāmapi yaṃ dṛṣṭvā manaḥ sadyaḥ prasīdati||

eṣā khalu dharmatā yattribhiḥ kalpāsaṃkhyeyairaṇi(ni)rastaśraddhāśīlaśrutatyāgaprajñādiguṇadhanaiśvaryaprayogāṇāṃ(nāṃ) bhagavatāṃ samyaksaṃbuddhānāṃ puruṣottamānāṃ dharmakāyacaraṇaparisamāptirbhavati| kalpaśatena khaḍgaviṣāṇakalpānāṃ pratyekabuddhānām| ṣaṣṭhyā kalpaiḥ prajñāvatāmagryāṇām| catvāriṃśadbhiḥ ṛddhimacchreṣṭhānām| viṃśatibhiḥ kalpaiḥ śrutadharapravarāṇāṃ dharmakāyacaraṇaparipūrirbhavati|

yatpunarjanmaśarīraṃ bhagavatāṃ samyaksaṃbuddhānāṃ bodherāśrayabhūtaṃ dvātriṃśatā mahāpuruṣalakṣaṇaiḥ khacitamaśītyānuvyañjanairvirājitam, yatkhalu dṛṣṭvā svavikalpasamutthitapratighadūṣitabuddhī nāmapi mārapakṣyāṇāṃ tīrthyāṇāṃ ca manaḥ prasīdati|

kāni punastāni dvātriṃśanmahāpuruṣalakṣaṇāni ? kāni vāśītyanuvyañjanāni ? tadidaṃ pradarśyate-

tatra tāvadamūni dvātriṃśanmahāpuruṣalakṣaṇāni-

buddhā hi bhagavantaḥ samamahītalākramaṇāt supratiṣṭhita[pā]dāḥ ||1||

atha tadādyaṃ bodhicittaṃ bodhisattvānāṃ dāḍharyeṇa kathamiva draṣṭavyam ? naitallaukikena vastunopapādayituṃ śakyam| kasmāt ? yataḥ

[228] yugāntavāyuṇā(nā) meruḥ vahniṇā(nā) varuṇālayaḥ|
vajreṇa dhvasyate vajramavikāri tu tanmanaḥ||

kiṃ paryāpannam, katarat, kati prakāram, kiṃ purassaram, kasminvā kāle ko vā tadutpādayati ? ityetadapadiśyate -

[229] kāmāptaṃ ṣaṣṭhajaṃ tredhā kṛpāśraddhāparamparam|
buddhotpāde naraḥ strī vā tadādyaṃ cittamaśnute||

tatkhalu bodhicittamādyaṃ kāmadhātuparyāpannameva| ṣaṣṭhajaṃ manodhātujamityarthaḥ| triprakāramupapattilābhikaṃ śrutamayaṃ cintāmayaṃ ceti| kṛpāpurassareṇa śraddhābahulena ca manaskāreṇa saṃprayuktam| buddhotpāda eva nāsati buddhaśāsane| manuṣyo vā strī votpādayati nānya iti|

tasyāsya bodhibījasthānīyasya cittaratnasya sarvadhātugativyāpibuddhatvamahāvṛkṣāṅkurābhivṛddhaye bhūmijalasekādihetupratyayasthānīyāna prajñādicaturadhiṣṭhānaparivārānpāramitādyānguṇānvakṣyamāna(ṇa)svarūpānbodhisattvaḥ krameṇābhyasyati|

kathaṃ punaḥ kramena(ṇa) dānādipāramitānāṃ paripūrirbhavati ? tatra tāvat-

[230] sarvebhyaḥ sarvadā sarvaṃ vadato dānapūraṇam|

prathame khalvasaṃkhyeye vartamāno bodhisattvaḥ na sarvasmai nāpi sarvaṃ na sarvadā dadāti| dvitīye sarvasmai sarvadā natu sarvam| tṛtīye sarvai sarvasmai sarvadā ca prayacchati| iyatā dānapāramitā paripūrṇā bhavati|

maraṇe'pi damātyāgaḥ śīlasyotkṛṣṭirucyate||

yadā punaḥ prāṇaparityāgenāpi prāṇātipātādiśikṣāpadaṃ na kṣobhayati, iyatā śīlapāramitā paripūrṇā veditavyā| krauñcādirājaduhitābhikṣudṛṣṭāntāścātrodāhāryāḥ|

[231] vīryasya tiṣyasaṃstutyā dhiyo vajropamātparam|

bhagavantaṃ khalu tiṣyaṃ samyaksaṃbuddhaṃ ekayā gāthayā ekapādena sthitvā saptāhamabhiṣṭhuvataḥ śākyamunervīyapāramitā paripūrṇā nava ca kalpāḥ pratyudāvartitāḥ|

prajñāpāramitāyāstu vajropamātsamādherurdhvaṃ kṣayajñāne paripūrirbhavati|

‘sarvāsāṃ tu kṣayajñāne paripūrirvidhīyate||’

ityāgamaḥ|
atra punaḥ “kṣāntighyānapāramite śīlaprajñāparivāratvānnārthāntaram” iti vaibhāṣikāḥ| vinayadharavaibhāṣikāstu vinaye catasraḥ pāramitāḥ paṭhanti|

atra punaḥ kecid buddhavacane (ba)hiṣkṛtabuddhayaḥ prāhuḥ- “na hi piṭakatraye bhagavatā bodhisattvamārga upadiṣṭaḥ|” ta evaṃ vyāhartavyāḥ| bhrāntā hyatra bhavantaḥ| yasmāt

[232] tripuṇyakṛtivastvādyāstallābhopāyadeśanāḥ|
tathā caturadhiṣṭhānaṃ saptasaddharmaśāsanam||

[233] saptayogāstrayaḥskandhāstriśikṣādyāśca deśitāḥ|
tathā pāramitāścāpi catasro vinayoditāḥ||

[234] bodhipakṣyāśca kaṇṭhoktāḥ saptatriṃśatsvayaṃbhuvā|
hetavaḥ sarvabodhināṃ trividhā mṛdutādibhiḥ||

[235] tasmānna bodhimārgo'nyaḥ sūtrādipiṭakatrayāt|
ato'nyamiha yo brūyātsa bhavenmārabhāṣitaḥ||

uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-“yadbhikṣavaḥ sūtre ṇā(nā)vatarati, vinaye ṇa(na) dṛśyate, dharmatāṃ ca vilomayati nedaṃ śāstuḥ śāsanam” iti kṛṣṇāpadeśaḥ| śuklāpadeśoviparyayeṇa| yatkhalu sūtraṃ bhagavatā buddhena bhāṣitaṃ taccaturṣvāgameṣu sthaviramahākāśyapasthavirāṇa(na)ndādibhiḥ saṃgītikartṛbhirūddānagāthābhirnibaddhaṃ tadeva grāhyam| gatametat|

idamidānīṃ vaktavyam| katameṣāṃ kalpāṇā(nā)masaṃkhyeyatrayeṇa buddhatvaṃ prāpyate ?

[236] kalpānāṃ mahatāmetadasaṃkhyeyatrayaṃ matam|

kalpāṇāṃ(nāṃ) yadi saṃkhyā na vidyate kathaṃ tarhi trayamiti nirdhāryate ? na khalu saṃkhyā na vidyate| kiṃ tarhi ?

sthānāntaramasaṃkhyākhyamadaḥsaṃkhyopari sthitam||

sthānāntaraviśeṣasya khalvetannāma(mā)saṃkhyeyamiti| na tu na saṃkhyā vidyata ityetadvivakṣitam|

atha yaṃ śākyamunirbhagavānsamyaksaṃbuddho bodhisattvacaryāyāmeṣu triṣvasaṃkhyeyeṣu kiyato(tāṃ) buddhānāṃ paryupāsāṃ cakre ? tadatra varṇayanti| prathame'saṃkhyeye pañcasaptatisahasrāṇi| dvitīye ṣaṭsaptatim| tṛtīye saptasaptatim|

kasya punaḥ kalpāsaṃkhyeyasyāvasāne katamo buddho babhūva ? atrāpi varṇayanti| ratnaśikhini samyaksaṃbuddhe prathamo'saṃkhyeyaḥ samāptaḥ| bhagavati dīpaṅkare dvitīyaḥ| bhagavati vipaśyini tṛtīyaḥ samāptaḥ|

kasminpunaḥ samyaksaṃbuddhe buddhatve prathamaṃ cittamutpāditam ? śākyamunī| śākyamunirnāma prathamasyāsaṃkhyeyasyādau babhūva yatra bhagavatā bhārgavabhūtena sukhodakenāṅgaparicaryābhirupasthānaṃ kṛtvā prathamaṃ bodhicittamutpāditamahamapyevaṃ prakāro bhūyāsamiti|

prabhāseturājani tadeva punardraḍhimānamāpāditamiti||
kasminpunaḥ kāle buddhā bhagavanto buddhādityāḥ prādurbhavanti ? tadārabhyate-

[237] apakarṣe jinotpattiryāvacchatasamāyuṣaḥ|
dvayoḥ pratyekabuddhānāmutkarṣe cakravartiṇā(nā)m||

kalpāpakarṣe khalu buddhānāmutpattirbhavati| utkarṣe cāpakarṣe ca pratyekajinānām| utkarṣa eva cakravartiṇā(nā)m||

cakravartiṇāṃ(nāṃ) punarayaṃ ṇi(ni)yamaḥ-

[238] nādho'śītisahastrāsau(yo)statsamutpattiriṣyate|

aśītibarṣasahasrāyurbhyaścakravartiṇā(nā)mūrdhvamutpattirbhavati nādha iti|

te hemarūpyatāmrāyaścakrāḥ puṇyaprabhāvataḥ||

caturvidhāḥ khalu cakravartiṇaḥ(na)ḥ-sauvarṇacakrāḥ, rūpyacakrāḥ, tāmracakrāḥ, lohitacakrāśca svapuṇyaprakarṣāditi| yathākramaṃ caite catustridvyekadvīpeśvarāḥ||

atha yaduktam-‘tasmānna bodhimārgo'nyaḥ sūtrādipiṭakatrayāt|’ iti| yadi tarhi mārgabhedo nāsti buddhapratyekabuddhaśrāvakāṇāṃ(nāṃ) phalabhedenāpi tarhi na bhavitavyam| naiṣa doṣaḥ| yasmāt-

[239] tulye'pi sādhanopāye tadbhedo'kṣādibhedataḥ|
bhavamokṣārthinormātroḥ pradānaphalabhedavat||

yāvatkhalu kaścidguṇaḥ samyaksaṃbodhimabhisaṃbudhya bhagavatā deśito vinirmukta(kti)dvayaprāptihetubhūtaḥ sarvo'sau piṭakatrayānuvartīḥ(rtī)| tatpunarvimuktidvayaṃ tribhiḥ pudgalaiḥ prāpyate| bhagavatā samyaksaṃbuddhena pratyekajinenāryaśrāvakeṇa ca| teṣāṃ puṇa(na)stulye bodhivartmani patitānāmindriyapraṇidhānāvaraṇabhedādbhedaḥ| tadyathā dvayormātrostulyaṃ vastu tulye kṣetre pratipādayatoścetanāviśeṣādatulyaṃ phalaṃ bhavati, tadvaduttamārthaṃ prārthayamānānāṃ trayāṇāmapi pudgalānāṃ praṇidhānendriyasatataghananirantarabhāvanāprayogapaṭutvābhyāsādiviśeṣāttulye'pi mārge patitānāṃ kaścitphalaviśeṣo bhavati|

itaśca

[240] karuṇābhāvanodrekātsvasaṃviccittayostathā|
parasaṃvidgurostadvattadviśeṣo vidhīyate||

tatra bhagavato buddhasya karuṇābhāvanā codrekena vartate bhagavānbuddhaḥ| svasaṃviccintā ca pratyekabuddhasyādhikyena vartate| parasaṃvitparato ghoṣaśca śrāvakasya| kiñca, parato ghoṣamantareṇāpi carame janmani suyoniṣo(śo)manaskārabalena hetupratyayaphalāvabodhopalambhāt, hetupratyayabalairaśeṣapranaṣṭaṃ niśreyasaṃ mārgaṃ prathamamadhigamya paratropadeśādityevamādi||

atha tulyāyāṃ vimuktau sthitānāṃ trayāṇāmabhisametṛṇāṃ ko viśeṣaḥ ? taducyate-

[241] hetutattvaphalodbhūtaṃ mahattvaṃ śāsitustridhā|
vimuktāvapi tulyāyāṃ trayāṇāṃ bodhilambhanāt||

tatra hetukṛtaṃ tāvadbhagavato buddhasya mahattvaṃ(ttvaṃ) triṣu kalpāsaṃkhyeyeṣu sūtravinayābhidharmālokena vineyajanamanograheṣvajñānatimirotsādanāt| svabhāvakṛtamapi balavaiśāradyasmṛtyupasthānamahākaruṇādisvarūpatvāt| phalakṛtamapi sadevakeṣu lokeṣvapratihataśāsanapratiṣṭhāṇā (nā)nmāracatuṣṭayanirjayanācceti||

atha yadetatsarvasattvaprativiśiṣṭaṃ puruṣottamasya janmaśarīraṃ tatkimaniyatakālākṣepam, āhosvinniyatakālākṣepamiti ? tadabhidhīyate-

[242] buddhasya saṃmukhīnasya bauddhamākṣipyate vapuḥ|

nānyasminkāle| cintāmayena jñānena viśiṣṭatamatvāt| tatra punaḥ-

saikapuṇyaśatodbhūtamekaikaṃ lakṣaṇaṃ muneḥ||

tatra pañcāśaccetanāḥ prayogabhūtāḥ pañcāśatpṛṣṭhabhūtāḥ, ekayā tallakṣaṇamākṣipati ||

tā punaḥ pañcāśaccetanāḥ katamāḥ ? taducyate-

[243] yathākarmapathāstadvatpuṇyāditrayamiṣyate|

pratikarmapathaṃ pañca, maulakarmapathapariśuddhiḥ sāmantakasyavitarkānupaghātaḥ smṛtyanuparigrahaḥ, nirvāṇapariṇāmanaṃ ca| tāḥ sarvāstadālamvanāḥ pañcāśatprayogabhūtāḥ| pṛṣṭhe'pyetāvatya eva|

anye tu bruvate-buddhā dviśarīrādhiṣṭhānāḥ| janmaśarīrādhiṣṭhānāḥ, dvātriṃśanmahāpuruṣalakṣaṇālambanāḥ| dharmaśarīrādhiṣṭhānāścāṣṭādaśāveni(ṇi)kabuddhaguṇālambanāḥ sāmantakapṛṣṭhasaṃgṛhītāḥ|

anye punarāhuḥ-prāṇivadhaviraticetanā mṛdumadhyādhimātrādhimātrataratamabhedāddevamanuṣyeṣu yojyaṃ(jyā)|

kecinmantrayante-dvidhā samudrāścatvāro dvīpāḥ ṣoḍaśanarakāḥ, tiryakpretau ṣaṭkāmāvacarāviṃśatīrūpārūpyān(:)devān(vāḥ)| etānsarvān bhagavān karuṇāyate|

evantu varṇayanti-sannikṛṣṭaṃ bodhisattvaṃ sthāpayitvā yatsarvasattvānāṃ bhogaiśvaryādhipatyaphalamiyadekasya puṇyasya pramāṇam||

atha yaduktam-‘dānapāramitā’ iti| tatra kaḥ samāsaḥ kiṃ sādhano vā dānaśabdaḥ, ko vā svabhāvo dānasya iti ? tadapadiśyate| dānasya pāramitāyā niścayabuddhiḥ sā dānapāramitā| evaṃ śeṣāsvapi vācyam|

yatpunarucyate-‘kiṃ sādhano vāyaṃ dānaśabdaḥ, ko vā dānasya svabhāvaḥ’ iti tatrāpadiśyate-

dānaṃ hi dīyate yena svaparārthādyapekṣayā||

[244] kāyādikarma tattattvamavijñaptiḥ kvacitpunaḥ|

karaṇasādhano'yaṃ dānaśabda| dīyate teneti dānaṃ mānavat| hastādiṣu tarhi dānaprasaṃgaḥ| astu tarhi karmasādhano dīyate taditi dānam| suvarṇādiṣu dānaprasaṃgaḥ| bhavatu ko doṣaḥ| vipākaphalābhāvaḥ, suvarṇādīnāmavyākṛtatvāt| bhavatu tarhi karaṇasādhana eva| nanūktaṃ hastādiṣu prasaṃgaḥ ? naiṣa doṣaḥ| kuśalakarmatrayaparigrahāt| spardhāyaśoguptisevādivyudāsārthamidamārabhyate| ‘svaparārthādyapekṣayā’-svātmaparārthānugrahādyapekṣayā| svātmānugrahāya parānugrahāya ubhayānugrahā[ya|ā]diśabdāt pūjākāmyayā ceti| svabhāvo'pi ‘kāyādikarmāvijñaptiḥ’| kvacitpunaḥ kāyavāṅmanaḥ karma| sasaṃprayogaṃ saparivāraṃ cātra manaskarma dṛṣṭavyam| tatpunaretaddānam-

prādhānyānmuninā proktaṃ mahābhogaphalaṃ hi tat||

svargāvapargahetutve'pi prādhānyānmahābhogatāyāṃ tadviniyogaḥ| tatpunaretaddānam-

[245] svānyobhayārthasiddhyarthaṃ dānaṃ dadati kecana|
sādhuvṛttyanuvṛtyarthaṃ nobhayārthāya cāpare||

dvābhyāṃ khalu kāraṇābhyāṃ svānyātmahitacikīrṣuśca, ubhayahitapratipannaśca sa evaṃguṇayuktaṃ dānaṃ dīyate (dadāti)| ātmanaśca kuśalamūlopacayārthaṃ parasya cendriyamahābhūtopacayārtham| tatra svahitāyaiva yathā pṛthagjanaḥ parinirvate bhagavati caityāya dadāti parārthameva yathā arhan saṃghāya dadāti, na ceṣṭadharmavedanīyaṃ bhavati| ubhayārthaṃ yadavītarāgaḥ saṃghāya dadāti| nobhayārthaṃ yadarhaṃścaityāya dadāti taccenna(tacca na) dṛṣṭadharmavedanīyaṃ bhavati kevalaṃ tu satpuruṣapraśastamārgāvasthānapradarśaṇā(nā)rtham||

tatpunaretaddānaṃ kathaṃ phalato viśiṣyate ? taducyate-

[246] dātṛvastvādivaiśiṣṭyāttatphalātiśayaḥ smṛtaḥ|

tatra kathaṃ dātṛviśeṣaḥ kathaṃ vastuviśeṣaḥ kathaṃ kṣetraviśeṣaḥ ?

śraddhādibhirguṇairdātā datte'taḥ satkriyādibhiḥ||

yadā dātā hetuphalasaṃbaddha(ndha)niścaya(ye) śraddadhāno dadāti śīlavān kalyāṇadharmā buddhavacanabahuśrutaśca bhavati nirmatsarī muktahastaśca bhavati nirvāṇānuśaṃsaḥ satkṛtya svahastaṃ kālena parānanupahatya dadāti, sa khalu

[247] satkārādiguṇopetaṃ phalaṃ tasmādavāpnute|

ataḥ satkṛtya dānātsatkāralābhī bhavati| svahastadānādudāreṣu bhogaparibhogeṣu ruciṃ labhate| kāladānātkālabhogā[na] labhate| parānupaghātādanācchedyāṃllabhate nirapakṣālamagnyā(nyā)dibhirasādhāraṇān| etāvaddātā viśiṣyate|

kathaṃ vastu ?

vastu varṇādisaṃpannaṃ saurūpyādi phalapradam||

yadi vastu varṇagandharasasparśasampannaṃ bhavati tadā viśiṣyate| tataḥ surupitvaṃ yaśasvitā pṛ(pri)yatā sukumāratvaṃ sukhasparśāṅgatā bhavati yathākramam| evaṃ vastu viśiṣṭa bhavati||

[248] guṇaduḥkhopakārākhyardharmaiḥ kṣetraṃ viśiṣyate|

guṇādhikaṃ kṣetraṃ bhavati| [ti]ryañcamupādāya yāvanmanuṣyāṇāṃ guṇāstaratamakrameṇa yāvadbuddhasya| yathoktam-“tiryagyoṇi(ni)gatāya dānaṃ datvā śataguṇo vipākaḥ pratikāṅkṣi[tavyaḥ syāt]| duḥśīlāya manuṣyabhūtāya datvā sahasraguṇaḥ|” duḥkhaviśeṣātkṣetraṃ viśiṣyate| yatho(thau)padhikeṣu puṇyakriyāvastuṣu| “glānāya dānaṃ glānopasthāya kāyadānaṃ śītalikāvardalikādiṣu ca dānam” iti vistaraḥ| upakāritvaviśeṣāt| yathā mātāpitroraṇye(nye)ṣāṃ copakāriṇāṃ ye aṭavīdurgakāntāre bhūtavyasanebhyo nistārayanti|

yaduktam-‘cetanāviśeṣātphalaviśeṣaḥ’ iti| atha kathaṃ cetanāyāḥ viśeṣo bhavati ? brūmaḥ-

āśayādi mṛdutvādermṛdutvādīni karmaṇaḥ||

pannāṃ(ṇyāṃ) khalu kāraṇānāṃ mṛdutvādiviśeṣātkarma viśiṣyate| āśayacetanāprayogādhiṣṭhānakṣetrapṛṣṭhānāṃ mṛdutvādeḥ karmaviśeṣaḥ|

tatrāśayābhiprāyaḥ yathā-evaṃ caivaṃ ca kuryāṃ kariṣyāmīti vā cetanāyā karmapathaṃ samākṣipati| prayogastadadhiṣṭhānaṃ kāyavākkarma| adhiṣṭhānaṃ karmapathaḥ| kṣetraṃ yasmai vastu pratipādyate| pṛṣṭhaṃ nāma yatkṛtvā punaḥ sakṛdasakṛdvānukaroti||

yaduktam-‘āryebhyo dānamaprameyaphalam’ iti| atha kimanāryebhyaḥ sarvebhyaḥ prameyam ? netyāha-

[249] dharmadātre'pi bālāya pitre mātre'tha rogiṇe|
ameyaṃ bodhisattvāya dānamanyabhavāya ca|

ebhyaḥ pañcabhyaḥ pṛthagjanebhyo'pi dānamaprameyaṃ bhavati||
atha kasya kasmai datvā dānamagryaphalaṃ bhavati ? tadabhidhīyate-

[250] bodhisattvasya yaddānna(na)manyasyāpi yadaṣṭamam|
vipaścidbhistadākhyātaṃ śreṣṭhaṃ yaccārhato'rhate||

yatkhalu bodhisattvaḥ sarvasattvahitādhyāśayeṇa dānaṃ dadāti tadagryamuttamārthaphalatvāt bhagavatā'ṣṭau khalu dānānyuktāni sūtre “āsādya dānam| bhayadānam| adāt me dānam| dāsyati me dānam| dattapūrvaṃ me pitṛbhirdānam| dadāti svargārtham| kītyartham| yāvaduttāmārthasya prāptaye dadātyetadagryam| yacca traidhātukavītarāgo'rhannarhate dadāti dānamidamagryam” iti|

sūtra uktam-“sāṃcetanikasyāhaṃ karmaṇaḥ kṛtopacitasya nāpratisaṃvedyaphala vadāmi” iti| atha kimidaṃ kṛtamupacitaṃ vā ? taducyate-

[251] saṃpradhārya yadākṣiptaṃ pūraṇādidṛḍhīkṛtam|
vigatapratipakṣaṃ ca tatkarmopacitaṃ matam||

tatra saṃpradhāryākṣiptaṃ nābuddhipūrvaṃ yadṛcchāya(cchayā) yacca kṛtvā paripūrikābhiścetanābhiḥ paripūritaṃ bhavati| pṛṣṭhataśca dṛḍhīkṛtaṃ bhavayi| niṣkaukṛtyādipratipakṣaṃ ca bhavati| tatkarmopacitamucyate||

kathaṃ caittādiṣvasati pratigṛhītari puṇyopajātirbhavati ? brūmaḥ|

[252] svasmāttyāgaguṇāpekṣāścaittāścaityārcatādiṣu|
vinā pratigṛhītrāpi phalaṃ maitrīvihāravat||

tadyathā maitrīvihāriṇo maharṣayo na ca lokaṃ sukhena yojayantyatha cāparimitaṃ puṇyaṃ pratigṛhṇantyevaṃ caityādiṣu tadguṇādhimuktivaśeṇa(na) svacittaprasādādeva puṇyaprasūtimicchati(nti)||

sūtra uktam-“dve dāne| dharmadānamāmiṣadānaṃ ca|” tatrāmiṣadānamuktam| dharmadānamucyate-

[253] dharmadānasvabhāvo vāktattvanāmādigocaraḥ|
avyākṛtasvabhāvatvānna nāmādyannadānavat||

yathaiva kuśalatvāt trikarmasvabhāvamāmiṣadānaṃ nānnapānam| suvarṇādisvabhāvaṃ tat, avyākṛtatvāt| tadvadvācaḥ kuśalatvāddharmadānaṃ vāksvabhāvam| na nāmakāyādisvabhāvam||

uktaṃ dānamayaṃ puṇyakriyādivastu| śīlamayamārabhyate|

[254] śīlaṃ śubhamayaṃ rūpaṃ vyākhyātaṃ tatprabhedataḥ|

kuśalameva rūpaṃ śīlamayaṃ puṇyakriyāvastu| tatpunarvijñaptyavijñaptirūpam| avijñaptirūpamapi triprabhedaṃ prātimokṣadhyānānāsravasaṃgṛhītam| tadapivyākhyātaṃ vistaraśaḥ| etadapi śīlamayaṃ puṇyakriyāvastu mahābhogatāphalaṃ mokṣaphalaṃ ca, praṇidhipariṇāmanaviśeṣāt|

śāstre tu tappradhānatvātproktaṃ svargopapattaye||

tatpunaretacchīlaṃ viśuddhaṃ cāviśuddhaṃ ca bhavati| tatra viśuddham

[255] dauḥśīlyāśubhamūlādyairdoṣairyanna vidūṣitam|
tadvipakṣaśamāṅgaṃ ca yattacchadvamihocyate||

yatkhalu śīlaṃ dauḥśīlyena na vidūṣitaṃ prāṇātipātādinā'ṣṭaprakāreṇa, tatsamutthāpakaiśca kleśopakleśairmithyādṛṣṭyādibhiranupahatam, kleśopakleśavipakṣaiśca smṛtyupasthānādibhiḥ parigṛhetam, nirvāṇapariṇāmitaṃ ca na saṃsārabījabhūtaṃ bhavati|

pañcabhiḥ kāraṇairityanye| maulaiḥ karmapathairviśuddham, sāmantakairviśuddham, vitarkairanupahatam, smṛtyānuparigṛhītam, nirvāṇābhimukha ceti tadviśuddhaśīlamiṣyate| tadviparyayādaviśuddhaṃ veditavyam|

vyākhyātaṃ śīlamayaṃ puṇyakriyāvastu||

bhāvanāmayamucyate-

[256] puṇyaṃ samāhitaṃ tvatra bhāvanā cittabhāvanāt|

yatsamādhisvabhāvaṃ samāhitaṃ puṇyaṃ tadbhāvanetyucyate| kasmāt ? cittabhāvanāt| yathā tailaṃ puṣpaiścampakādibhirvāsitaṃ tanmayi bhavati tatsamādhisaṃprayuktaistatsahabhūkaiśca dharmaiścittaṃ bhāvitaṃ vāsitamityucyate, tanmayīkaraṇāt| na caivamasamāhitamiti| samāhitameva citta(ttaṃ) bhāvanāmayaṃ puṇyakriyāvastu maitryādiguṇasaṃprayuktaṃ draṣṭavyam|

kathaṃ punaretatpunya(ṇya)kriyāvastu mantavyam ? kiṃ puṇyaṃ kriyā ca vastu ca puṇyakriyāvastu, samāhāralakṣaṇo'yaṃ dvandvaḥ samāso'tha puṇyakriyayorvastu puṇyakriyāvastu ? atha puṇyakriyāyā vastu puṇyakriyāvastviti ? yathā na doṣastathāstu| kathaṃ ca na doṣaḥ ? tatra tāvat| kāyavākkarmasvabhāvatvāt tridhā kuśalatvātpuṇyam| karmātmakatvātkriyā| tatsamutthāpikāyāḥ (yā)ścetanāyā adhiṣṭhānātvādvastu| yā tatsamutthāpikā cetanā sā puṇyaṃ ca kriyā ca, tatsahabhuvo dharmāḥ puṇyameva| śīlamayaṃ tu kāyavākkarmaiveti tridhā bhavati| bhāvanāmayaṃ maitro puṇyaṃ ca puṇyakriyāśca vastu| tatsaṃprayuktāyāścetanāyā maitryadhiṣṭhānenābhisaṃskārāṇāṃ maitrīsahabhūcetanā śīlaṃ ca puṇyakriyā ca| anye tatsahabhuvaḥ puṇyameveti|

tatpunaretadbhāvanāmayaṃ puṇyakriyāvastu sarvaṃ tatsarvahetutve'pi sati

pradhānyādapavargāya taduktaṃ sarvadarśinā||

uttamārthaprāptaye khalvāsannatamo heturbhāvaneti kṛtvā bhagavatā bhāvanāmayameva kuśalamūlaṃ visaṃyogāya vidhiyuktamuktam| puṇyakriyāvastubhedena triprakāraṃ śubham|

punaraṇye(nye)na prakāratrayeṇa śubhabhedo vyākhyāyate-

[257] puṇyanirvāṇabhāgīyaṃ nirvedhānuguṇaṃ tathā|
śāsane'sminsamāsena śubhamūlaṃ tridheṣyate||

puṇyabhāgīyaṃ yena devamanuṣyopapattibījaṃ pratigṛhṇāti maheśākhyaiśca kulamahābhogarūpyacakravartiśakrapuṣpaketubrahmatvādīnāṃ prāptaye phalamākṣipati| mokṣabhāgīyaṃ yenāvikampya mokṣāśayāvasthānādavaśyaṃ pariṇi(ni)rvāṇadharmā bhavati| nirvedhabhāgīyamūṣmagatamū(ṣmaṃ) caturvidham||

atha yadidaṃ loka ucyate lipimudrāgaṇanāsaṃkhyeti eṣāṃ kaḥ svabhāvaḥ ? ucyate-

[258] lipimudrā'tha gaṇanā kāyavākkarmalakṣaṇā|
saṃkhyā khalvapi vijñeyā manaskarmasvabhāvikā||

tatra tāvallipimudre yogapravartitaṃ kāyakarmasamutthānamiti pañcaskandhātmikā lipiḥ| yeṇa(na) tu karmaṇā'kṣarāṇi nirvartyante tatkarma lipirityucyate| nāma yatkhanyate dantaviṣāṇasuvarṇādiṣu sā mudrā| natu yeṇa(na) karmaṇā khanyate tatkarmocyate| kāvyamapi yogapravartitaṃ vākkarmasamutthānaṃ pañcaskandhāḥ| saṃkhyāpi yogapravartitaṃ manaskarma| yanmanasā saṃkalitaṃ dharmāṇāṃ sā tu saparivārā catuskandhasvabhāveti||
