buddhipūrvāṃ kriyāṃ dṛṣṭvā svadehe'nyatra tadgrahāt |

jñāyate yadi dhīścittamātre'pyeṣa nayaḥ samaḥ ||

cittamātramidaṃ sarvamuktavān yo jagadguruḥ |

santānāntarasiddhastaṃ praṇipatya vivicyate ||

buddhipūrvāṃ kriyām ityādiślokenāsya prakaraṇasyābhidheyasambandhaprayojanāni darśitāni | tatra santānāntarasattā'bhidheyam | santānāntarasattāyāḥ siddhiḥ prayojanam | tasya prayojanasyāpi prakaraṇenānena sādhyamānatvāttena sahāsyopāyopeyalakṣaṇasambandhaḥ | kāryakāraṇādisambandhānāmasminnevāntarbhāvānna pṛthagvacanam |

bāhyārthavādinaḥ kila vijñānamātratāyāṃ santānāntarasattā nopapadyata iti codayanti | tathāhi, ta evamāhuḥ - yeṣāṃ cittamātrameva sat, asaṃśca bāhyārthaḥ, na teṣāṃ prāṇyantarapratipattaye pratyakṣapramāṇamasti; jñānamātrasya svāṃśamātrālambanatvāt, vastutastu ālambanābhāvāt |

nāpyanumānam, kāyavākkarmābhāvāt | atha kāyavāgvijñaptibhyāṃ prāṇyantaramanumīyate cet; vijñānamātratāpakṣe kāyavākkarmaṇorvijñaptī na staḥ |

nāpyāgamaḥ sambhavati, tasya rūpaskandhāntarbhāvāt, etasya ca pratikṣepāt | tathāhi, āgamaḥ śabdātmako vā bhaved vyañjanasvabhāvo vā | ubhayamapyetad bhavatpakṣe nāsti | nāpi tadviṣaye rūpiṇa āgamasya prāmāṇyamiṣyate | yato hyayaṃ viṣayaḥ pramāṇadvayaviṣayātīto mataḥ | tathā sati, āgamādapi prāṇyantaraṃ pratipattuṃ na śakyata iti cet ?

tathā vipratipannā bāhyārthāvādina evaṃ vaktavyāḥ | vayamapi pratyakṣataḥ prāṇyantaraṃ naiva pratipadyāmahe | na hi pratyakṣādarvāgdarśinaḥ prāṇyantaramavagacchanti | nāpyāgamo vyañjanasvabhāvaḥ | kintu praṇetṛvaśād yo vākyapadavyañjanaviśeṣapratibhāsijñānotpādaḥ saḥ | sa tu pratipattṛsantāne sannapyupacāratastathāgatasya vā kapilasya vā kaṇādasya vā karturvacanamiti vyapadiśyate | evaṃ sarve'pi bauddhā vācakaṃ śabdasāmānyākāraṃ jñānaṃ manyante; na cāsti śabdaviśeṣaḥ, 'tasya pūrvamadṛṣṭatvād' ityādihetubhiḥ viśeṣākārasya vācakatvabhāvapratiṣedhāt | vayamapi nāgamataḥ prāṇyantarapratipattimabhyupagacchāmaḥ, api tvanumānāt | taccānumānaṃ kāyavākkarmaṇorabhāve'pi yathā pravartate yaddarśayitumāha - buddhipūrvāmityādi | eṣa tāvat samudāyārthaḥ |

avayavārthastūcyate | buddhiḥ jñānam | sā cātra gamanāgamanasaṃlāpecchārūpā parigṛhyate, kriyāhetutvāt tasyāḥ | sā'sti pūrvaṃ yasyāḥ kriyāyāḥ sā buddhipūrvā | pūrveti śabdenātra kāraṇasya nirdeśaḥ, kāraṇasya pūrvavartitvāt | yadi nāma bāhyārthavādibhiḥ svasantāne tāṃ buddhipūrvāṃ kriyāṃ pratyakṣānumānābhyāmupalabhya paścātparasantāne grahād vivakṣitarūpā dhīḥ vijñānaṃ gamyate, tadā cittamātre'pyeṣa nayaḥ samaḥ | atra kriyetyupalakṣaṇam | mukhakāntiraktimādīnāmapi cittāntarasya gamakatvāt | yadīti vacanena vakṣyamāṇabidhinā parapakṣe'numānābhāvaṃ darśayati ||1||

anumānamabhyupagamya tulyatāṃ khyāpayannāha -

ātmani cittaspandanapūrvau kriyābhilāpau dṛṣṭvā'nyatra tayordarśanād yadi spandanamanumīyeta, cittamātre'pyeṣa nayaḥ samaḥ | ataścittamātratāvādī api paracittamanumātuṃ śaknoti |

ātmanītyādi | cittasya spandanaṃ cittaspandanam | atra spandaneti śabdaścikīrṣāyāṃ vartate | kriyābhilāpau tu kāyavāgvijñaptyoḥ | tenāyamartho bhavati - ātmani jigamiṣāvivakṣāpūrvayoḥ kriyābhilāpayordarśanāt parasantāne'pi tau kriyābhilāpau copalabhya cittaspandanamanumīyata iti cet ? cittamātratāvāde'pyeṣa nayaḥ samaḥ | tathā sati, so'pi paracittamanumīyāt | atra spandanetyaviśeṣeṇoktam, tathāpi pūrvaṃ cittaspandanamiti prakṛtenābhisambandhanīyam | tasmāt sāmānyaśabdā api prakaraṇasāmarthyād viśeṣeṣvavatiṣṭhante ||2||

nanu bāhyārthavāde tu paracittanimittake kāyavākkarmaṇī liṅgatvena svīkriyete, antarjñeyavāde tayorabhāvāt kathaṃ sāmyamiti cet ? evamāha -

tacca kāyavāgvijñaptipratibhāsi jñānaṃ jñānāntaraspandanaviśeṣeṇa vinā bhavatītyevaṃ na matam |

taccetyādi | antarjñeyavādināpi kāyavāgvijñāptipratibhāsi kāyavāgvijñaptakārakaṃ jñānaṃ paracittasya spandanaviśeṣeṇa vinā bhavatīti na manyate | svajñānādanyad yajjñānaṃ tat jñānāntaram | tatsamprayuktaṃ spandanaṃ jñānāntaraspandanam, tasya viśeṣastena | viśeṣeti vacanena cikīrṣā, vivakṣā ca parigṛhyete ||3||

bāhyārthavādimatamāśaṅkyate -

atha parajñānasya kriyāyā anupalambhāt paradhīranumātuṃ na yujyata iti cet ? na; tulyatvāt |

atha parajñānasya kriyāyetyādi | na bhavatā kadāpi parajñānapūrvake kriyāvāgākārake jñāne upalabhyete | bhavatā tatkathamanumīyeta iti pūrvapākṣāśaṅkā | antarjñeyavādyāha - na; tulyatvāditi | naiṣa doṣaḥ | yato hi, eṣa upālambho bhavatāmapi tulyaḥ ||4||

tattulyatvaṃ darśayati -

paro'pi parajñānapūrvau tau kadāpi na paśyati | ataḥ tenāpi tanna jñāyate |

paro'pītyādi | bāhyārthavādyapi paracittaspandanapūrvakau tau kriyābhilāpau na kadāpi paśyati | tasmāt tenāpi paracittaṃ na pratipadyate | atyantāsambaddho hyeṣa upālambhaḥ | na hi samarthanāya prasiddhasambandho'nvekṣaṇīyaḥ, api tu doṣasāmyādeva paro nigṛhītaḥ | tasmānna doṣāntaramucyate ||5||

atrāsti paracittānumānopāya iti bāhyārthavādimatamāśaṅkayāha -

ātmanaścittasya paravartinornimittatvānupapatteḥ paracittaṃ jñāyata it cet ? kiṃ na yujyate ?

ātmanaścittasya paravartinorityādi | yasmādātmanaścittaṃ santānāntaravartinoḥ kriyābhilāpayoḥ kāraṇatvena na yujyate, tasmātparacittamanumīyata iti pūrvapakṣāśaṅkā | siddhantabādyāha - kiṃ na yujyata it | kathamātmanaścittaṃ paravartinornimittitvena nopapadyate ? ucyatām ||6||

paro'yuktatvaṃ darśayitumāha -

svasamutthāpakacittasya pratisaṃvedanābhāvāt |

svasamutthāpakacittasya pratisaṃvedanābhāvāditi | parasantānabartinau kriyābhilāpau ātmacittanimittakau vā syātām , paracittanimittakau veti dvidhā parīkṣā | na tāvadātmacittaminittakau, yasmānna svasantāne tayorsamutthāpakacoittasya saṃvedanaṃ bhavati ||7||

hetupasaṃharannāha -

ātmacittaśrayiṇoścātmani darśanāt |

ātmacittaśrayiṇoścetyādi | ahaṃ gacchāmi, ahaṃ vadāmīti ye svacittanimittake kāravākkarmaṇī te svasantāne upalabhyete | ātmanaścittamāśrayata iti vigrahaḥ | atra āśrayīti śabdo nimittake ||8||

bhavatvātmacittanimittakayoḥ svasantāne darśanam | tena kim ? tasmādāha -

tāvapi yadi yathā syātāṃ tādṛśāvupalabhyeyātām |

tāvapītyādi | paravartikriyābhilāpāvapi yadyātmacittaśrayiṇau syātām, tadā tāvapi ātmani dṛśyeyātām ||9||

atha tau kathaṃ dṛśyete ? āha -

anyathā darśanādanyannimittaṃ sidhyatīti cet ?

anyathetyādi | ayaṃ gacchati, ayaṃ vadatītyevaṃ vicchinnadeśe dṛśyete | svacittanimittakatvābhāve sati sāmārthyāccittāntaraṃ sidhyatīti pūrvapakṣāśaṅkā ||10||

siddhāntavādyāha -

aparasminnapi samānameva, svasamutthāpakacittasya saṃvedanābhāvāt |

aparasminnapītyādi | antarjñeyavāde'pi svasantāne vicchinnadeśapratibhāsinoḥ kriyābhilāpapratibhāsijñānayoḥ samutthāpakacittasya pratisaṃvedanaṃ na bhavati ||11||

hetorupasaṃhāro'pi tukya iti darśayannāha -

svacittaspandananimittake vijñāptipratibhāsinī jñāne cāntarmukhapratibhāsinī pratīteḥ bahirmukhapratibhāsinī anyanimittāditpadyete |

svacittaspandananimittake vijñāptipratibhāsinī jñāne cetyādi | ye svacittaspandananimittake kriyāvākpratibhāsinī jñāne te cāntarmukhapratibhāsinī ' ahaṃ gacchami, ahaṃ vadāmi' ityātmasambaddhavijñaptipratibhāsinī pratīyete | parasantānavartinī tu ' ayaṃ gacchami , ayaṃ vadati' iti bahirmukhapratibhāsinī pratīyete | tasmādanyanimittadutpadyeta iti siddham | svacittasya spandanaṃ svacittaspandanam, tannimittaṃ yasyeti vigrahaḥ ||12||

bāhyārthavādī bahirmukhajñānayoḥ spandanakāraṇatve sandihati -

animitte eva bahirmukhapratibhāsinīti kinneṣyete cet ?

animitte eva bahirmukhapratibhāsinītyādi | ye bahirmukhapratibhāsinī jñāne te'nimitte iti kinneṣyete ? na spandananimittale iti vākyaśeṣaḥ | bahirmukhetiśabdo vicchinnālambane | bahirmukhaṃ pratibhāsituṃ śīlaṃ yayoste bahirmukhapratibhāsinī | nāsti nimittamanayoriti animitte | bhavatu kila nimittāmātrasya pratiṣedhaḥ tathāpi prakaraṇavaśāt spandanamātrasya pratiṣedho draṣṭavyaḥ ||13||

siddhāntavādyāha -

animittatve sarvasyānimittatvaṃ prasajyeta |

animittatva ityādi | yadi vicchinnapratibhāsinī kriyāvāgākārake jñāne spandanābhāve'pi vinā kiṃcana kriyāvāgākāraṃ bhavet, tadā sarvāṇyapi kriyāvāgākārakāṇi jñānāni spandanena vinā bhaveyuḥ; viśeṣābhāvādityabhiprāyaḥ ||14||

tatra yadyevaṃ vicintyeta - vicchinnāvicchinnakṛto bhedastvastyeva | tena vicchinnapratibhāsinoḥ animittatvam, itarayostu sanimittatvamiti | ata āha -

vicchinnāvicchinnapratibhāsakṛto bhedo na jñānayoḥ spandanatvanimittabhedavibhāgakṛt |

vicchinnavicchinnapratibhāsetyādi | vicchinnaḥ pratibhāso vicchinnapratibhāsaḥ | tena kṛto bhedo viśeṣalakṣaṇaḥ | sa tu yato na jñānayoḥ spandanatvanimittasya bhedakaḥ; bahirmukhapratibhāsinī spandananimittake na bhavataḥ, itare tu spandananimittake iti | vibhāgastvatra vibhajya sthāpanaṃ nikṣepo vā ||15||

atha nimittatvabhedābhāve ko doṣaḥ syāt ? āha -

tenāvicchinnapratibhāsinorapyanimittatvaṃ bhavet, viśeṣābhāvāt |

tenāvicchinnetyādi | yato hyatra bhinnabhūtayoḥ jñānayoḥ kriyāvākpratibhāsatve na kaścid viśeṣo'sti | tasmād viśeṣābhāvādubhayamapi spandanatvanimittakaṃ na bhavet, atha vobhayamapi spandananimittakam ||16||

tadevaṃ jñānadvayasya sāmyaṃ sādhayitvopasaṃharannāha -

tathā sati, avicchinnatvaviśiṣṭaḥ pratibhāsabheda eva spandanapūrvako na bhavati | kintarhi ? vicchinnasyāpi kriyāviśeṣasya pratibhāsa eva |

tathā sati, avicchinnatvaviśiṣṭaḥ pratibhāsabheda ityādi | yasmādevaṃ jñānadvayasya sāmyam, tasmād yo'vicchinnatvaviśiṣṭaḥ kriyāvākpratibhāsaḥ sa kevalaṃ spandananimittako na bhavati | kintarhi ? vicchinnapratibhāsasyāpi kriyāviśeṣasya pratibhāsamātraṃ spandananimittakam | vicchinno viśeṣo'syāstīti padvigrahaḥ | kriyāviśeṣetyanena kriyābhilāpau darśayati | eveti śabdo mātrārthe draṣṭavyaḥ | tenātrāyaṃ samudāyārthaḥ - vicchinnāvicchinnabhedamanapekṣya sāmānyena kriyābhilāpayoḥ pratibhāsamātraṃ spandananimittakam | yato hi kaścid vicchinno'pi pratibhāsa spandanapūrvako dṛśyate, kaścittavavicchinno'pi nātmaspandanapūrvaka iti ||17||

tasyaiva hetorvyabhicāraṃ vyājena darśayati -

śaropalaprakṣepaṇayantranirmāṇaparapracālanādikriyāviśeṣapratibhāsināṃ vicchinnasyāpi pratibhāsasya spandanapūrvakatvāt |

śaropalaprakṣepaṇetayādi | śarāścopalāśca śaropalam, śaropalau ca | tayoḥ śaropalayoḥ prakṣepaṇamiti vigrahaḥ | śaropalaprakṣepaṇāni yantraṃ ca nirmāṇaṃ ca parapracālanaṃ cetivigrahaḥ | ādiśabdena māyādīnāṃ saṃgrahaḥ | teṣāṃ kriyāviśeṣastu yathāyogaṃ deśāntaragamanādilakṣaṇaḥ | tatra upalayantrayoḥ kriyāviśeṣo deśāntaragamanalakṣaṇaḥ | nirmāṇasya kriyāviśeṣaḥ kṛtyābhidhānalakṣaṇaḥ | parapracālanasya kriyāviśeṣaḥ gatilakṣaṇaḥ | yeṣāṃ jñānānāṃ śaraprakṣepaṇādikriyāviśeṣapratibhāso'sti tāni tathā | bhavatu eteṣāṃ kriyāviśeṣāṇāṃ vicchinnaḥ pratibhāsaḥ, tathāpi spandanapūrvakatvam | etaduktaṃ bhavati - vicchinnapratibhāso'spandanapūrvakatvena na vyāpta iti ||18||

avicchinnapratibhāse'pi vyabhicāraṃ darśayannāha -

parakṛtacālanādīnāṃ cāvicchinnasyāpyatadpūrvakatvāt |

parakṛtacālanādīnāṃ cāvicchinnasyāpītyādi | pareṇa kṛtaṃ cālanamiti samāsaḥ | ādiśabdena bhrāmaṇādīnāṃ saṃgrahaḥ | parakṛtacālanādināmavicchinnapratibhāsānāṃ nātmaspandanapūrvakatvaṃ dṛśyate | etaduktaṃ bhavati - bhavantu ete svadehasambaddhāḥ, tathāpi nātmaspandanapūrvakā iti ||19||

tadevamubhayatrāpi vyabhicārasadbhāvaṃ sādhayitvopasaṃharannāha -

tena hyatra kriyāviśeṣamātreṇa spandanasya pratītiriti yujyate |

tena hyatra kriyāviśeṣamātreṇetyādi | yasmādevamubhayatra vyabhicārasadbhāvaḥ sādhitaḥ , tasmāt kriyāvākyapratibhāsamātreṇa paracittamanumātuṃ śakyate; na tu vicchinnāvicchinnapratibhāsamātreṇa | kriyāviśeṣeti śabdaḥ kāyavāgjñiptipratibhāsaṃ darśayati | mātreti śabdo vicchinnāvicchinnayoḥ bhedaṃ nirākaroti ||20||

tatra yadyevaṃ cintyeta - śaraprakṣepaṇādikriyāviśeṣāṇāṃ pratibhāsāstu vicchinnapratibhāsatve'pi spandanatvapūrvakāḥ; tadanyā vicchinnapratibhāsāstu na tathā syuḥ ? tasmādāha -

tatra yadi kasyacidapūrvakatvam, na ko'pi tatpūrvaka syāt; viśeṣābhāvāt |

tatra yadi kasyacidapūrvakatvamityādi | yadi vicchinnāvicchinnajñānayoranyatarat spandanatvanibandhanaṃ neṣyate, tadā kimapi spandanatvapūrvakaṃ na syāt | kathamiti cet ? āha - viśeṣābhāvāditi | sugamametad ||21||

upasaṃharannāha -

ataḥ kriyāviśeṣasāmānyaṃ spandanaviśeṣasāmānyasya gamakam |

ataḥ kriyāviśeṣasāmānyamityādi | yato hi yadi kasyacidatatpūrvakatvaṃ bhavet sarvasyātatpūrvakatvaṃ prasajyeta | ataḥ kriyāviśeṣamutsṛjya kriyāviśeṣasāmānyena spandanaviśeṣasāmānyamanumīyate | kriyāviśeṣetivacanaṃ kriyābhilāpau darśayati | sāmānyamiti śabdaḥ bahirantarmukhakṛtaṃ bhedaṃ pariharati | na hyevaṃ śakyate'numātum - ṃrāgād vadatīti vā dveṣādvā mohādvā | tasmādeṣo'tra samudāyārthaḥ - kriyābhilāpamātreṇa spandanamātramanumeyam, na tu spandanaviśeṣam; viśeṣe liṅgasya vyabhiucāraditi ||22||

bāhyārthavādena samānatāṃ darśayitumāha -

tatra yathā kriyāmupalabhya, ātmani spandanānupalambhādanyatra spandapratītiḥ; tathā kriyāpratibhāsopalambhane'pi |

tatra yathā kriyāmupalabhyetyādi | bāhyārthavādinā yadi kriyāmupalabhya, ātmani spandanānupalambhāt sāmarthyādanyatra spandanamanumīyata iti cet | antarjñeyavāde'pi tattulyam; kriyāpratibhāsamupalabhya, ātmani spandanānupalambhāt sāmarthyādanyatra spandanamanumīyate || 23 ||

bāhyārthavādinā vicchinnapratibhāsasyānimittakatvaṃ yatpūrva coditam, tadapi samānamiti darśayitum āha -

samānametat; paro'pi parakriyābhilāpayornimittaṃ nāstīti kinnecchati ?

samānametadityādi | bāhyārthavādyapi prāṇyantarasaṃbaddhapratibhāsinau kriyābhilāpau animittakāviti necchati ||24||

bāhyārthavādyanimittau nābhyupagacchati | tadavaśyamabhyupagantavyamiti darśayitumāha -

tenāvaśyaṃ tau spandananimittakatvāttadabhāve na bhavata iti vaktavyam |

tenāvaśyamityādi | tathāvipratipannena bāhyārthavādināvaśyamiyamupapattirvaktavyā - tayoḥ kriyābhilāpayoḥ spandanajanyarūpatvāt spandanābhāve tau na bhavata iti ||25||

athābhyupagatā'pīyamupapattiḥ kiṃ tayeti cet ? āha -

paro'pi tayoḥ pratibhāsau tathaiva vadet | ataḥ nānayoḥ parasparaṃ bhedaḥ |

paro'pi tayoḥ pratibhāsau tathaivetyādi | antarjñeyavādyapi tathaiva vadet - vicchinnapratibhāsijñāne spandanajanyarūpatvāttadabhāve na bhavata iti | tathā sati nānayoḥ bāhyārthavādāntarjñeyavādayoḥ parasparaṃ bhedo'sti | etaduktaṃ bhavati - yathā bāhyārthavādī parasambaddhakriyābhilāpau spandanajanyarūpatvāt tadabhāve na bhavata iti vadati, tathaivāntarjñeyavādyapi bāhirmukhapratibhāsijñāne spandanajanyatvāt tadabhāve na bhavata iti vadet | tathā sati nānayoḥ parasparaṃ kaścidbhedo|'stīti ||26||

bāhyārthavādināmāśaṅkāmudbhāvayitumāha -

yadi tatra pratibhāsinyoḥ spandananimittakatvamucyate, svapnāvasthāyāmapi kinnocyate ?

yadi tatra pratibhāsinyorityādi | kriyābhilāpapratibhāsijñānayoḥ spandananimittakatvaṃ vadan yogācāraḥ svapnāvasthāyāmapi tayoḥ spandananimittakatvaṃ kinna vadatīti pūrvapakṣāśaṅkā ||27||

siddhāntavādyāha -

sarvaṃ samānam | paro'pi svapnopalabdhaparakriyāvācau spandananimittike iti kinna vadati ?

sarvaṃ samānamityādi | na kevalaṃ pūrvaṃ samānam | kiṃ tarhi ? etadapi pūrveṇa saha sarvaṃ samānamiti śeṣaḥ | tāmeva samānatāṃ darśayitumāha - paro'pi svapnopalabdhaparakriyāvācāvityādi | bāhyārthavādyapi svapnāvasthāyāṃ yau parasambaddhau kriyābhilāpāvupalabhyete tau paracittanimittakāviti kinna vadati ||28|

bāhyārthavādīnāmuttaramāśaṅkyāha -

tayorabhāvāditi cet ?

tayorabhāvāditi cediti | svapne tu kriyābhilāpāveva na staḥ | tatkathamabhāvasya spandananimittakatā bhavedityucyet ||29||

antarjñeyavādyāha -

tathopalabdhisāmyāt kinna staḥ ?

tathopalabdhisāmyāt kinna staḥ iti | yathā jāgradavasthāyāṃ kriyābhilāpayorupalabdhiḥ tathā svapnāvasthāyāmapi | tasmāt kriyābhilāpayorupalabdhasāmyāt kasmānna tau staḥ ||30||

bāhyārthavādīnāṃ matamāśaṅkyāha -

atha middhenopahatatvāt puruṣasyārthaśūnyaṃ vijñānaṃ jāyata iti cet |

atha middhenetyādi | puruṣasya middhenopahatatvāt bhrāntirbhavati | tasmādarthaśūnye vijñāne jāyete | tena svapne tayorabhāva iti pūrvapakṣāśaṅkā ||31||

siddhāntavādyāha -

paramate'pi tasmādeva parādhipatyaśūnyaṃ vijñānamupajāyate |

paramata ityādi | antarjñeyavādīnāṃ mate'pitasmāt middhena bhrāntatvādeva parādhipatyarahite kriyābhilāpākāreke jñāne jāyete itīṣṭam ||32||

evaṃ tāvat sautrāntikena saha samānatāṃ pratipādya vaibhāṣikamatāśaṅkyāha -

atha svapne'pi jñānasyārthavattvāttadopalabhyamānānyapi santānāntarāṇyeva iti cet |

atha svapne'pi jñānasyārthavattvādityādi | svapne'pi jñānasyārthavattvāt svapnāvasthāyāṃ yeṣāṃ prāṇināmupalabdhirbhavati te ca sattvāḥ santyeva satyataḥ | tasmāt kathaṃ sāmyamiti pūrvapakṣāśaṅkā ||33||

siddhāntavādyāha -

paraṃ prativigrahītuṃ yadi yuktyāgamarahitastathāvidho'sadvādaḥ samāśriyeta, tadā parābhimataṃ tasya parādhipatyaṃ na ko'pi nivārayet |

paraṃ prativigrahītuṃ yadi yuktvāgamarahita ityādi | yaḥ yuktyā āgamācca rahitaḥ sa yuktyāgamarahitaḥ | yuktyāgamarahito'sau vādo'sādhutvādasadevādaḥ | yadi vaibhāṣikāḥ yogācārān prativigrahītuṃ tamabhyupagaccheyuḥ, anena ca mama parājaya iti | na, ayuktatvāt | tadā yogācārabhimataṃ sattvasya tathāvidhaparadhipatyamapi na kaścinnivārayet | tathāhi, bhavadbhiḥ svapnāvasthāyāṃ ye sattvāḥ abhyupagatāḥ, teṣāmevādhipatyādasmākaṃ vijñaptipratibhāsāḥ jāyanta iti vaktavyaṃ bhavet |

tena hi yad viṣamatvaṃ yuktyāgamarahitatvaṃ tadevaṃ draṣṭavyam | na kutaścidāgamataḥ svapnadṛṣṭarūpasya sadbhāvaḥ prajñāyate | yuktyāpi nopapadyate | tathā sati svapnadṛṣṭarūpasya sapratighatvaṃ sanidarśanatvañca bhavet | tena hi hastyādīnāṃ gavākṣādiṣu praveśo nopapadyeta, taddeśasthairapi dṛśyo bhavet | atha sanidarśanaṃ sapratighaṃ ca neṣyate, tadā rūpameva tanna bhavet | nāpyavijñaptiniyamaḥ, tadanabhyupagamāt | yadātmānaṃ bahirgataṃ prekṣate,tadā santānasya dvitvamapi prasajyeta | prāṇyantaradarśane'pūrvasattvotpattitpattirapi prasajyeta | svapnakṛtābrahmācaryāt pārājikatvamapi prasajyeta | svapnadṛṣṭarūpasya sadbhāvābhyupagame tvevemādayo bahavo doṣā prasajyante ||34||

evaṃ tāvat samānatāṃ prasādhya svapakṣe yuktyāgamarahitatvaṃ parihartumāha -

etat keṣāñcinmata eva sarvāṇi tathāvidhāni ġyānāni santānāntarāyattāni | viśeṣastu sākṣātparamparayā ca |

etat keṣāñcinmata ityādi | etadityāveśenoktam | keṣāzncid yogācārāṇāṃ mata eva jāgradavasthāvat svapne'pi tathāvidhānī kriyāvāgākārajñānāni parasantānā yattāni bhavanti | viśeṣastu etāvanmātram - jāgradavasthāyāṃ sākṣādāyattāni, svapnāvasthāyāṃ tu prāyeṇa paramparayā ||35||



svapne'pi sākṣādvṛtteḥ sambhāvanāṃ pratipādayitumāha -

kadācit svapne'pi tasya sākṣātsantānāntarāyattatā iṣṭaiva |

kadācit svapne'pītyādi | sugamametat ||36||

sākṣādvṛttitvaṃ darśannāha -

devādyadhiṣṭhānataḥ satyasvapnadarśanāt |

devādyadhiṣṭhānata ityādi | devādyadhiṣṭhānataḥ supriyavaṇijo vijñaptipratibhāsīni jñānāni jāyante ādītyanena yogipiśācādīnāmadhiṣṭhānāni saṃgṛhītāni ||37||

svapakṣamupasaṃharannāha -

tasmādasya naitadasadvādasamāśrayaḥ |

tasmādasyetyādi | tasmādasyaivaṃvādino yogācārasya nāsadvādasamāśrayaḥ ||38||

punaścāparasmin samānatāṃ sādhayituṃ sautrāntikaṃ pṛcchati -

tāvattayā kriyayā'pi taccittaṃ kathaṃ jñāyate ?

tāvattayā kriyayetyādi | vijñaptipratibhāsasya gamakatvamityabhimataṃ tāvadavasthāpyam | muhurbhavataiva paryanuyujyate - kasmāt bhavatparikalpitayā tayā kriyayā paracittaṃ jñāyate ||39||

tathā paryanuyoge sautrāntika āha -

cittasya kāryatvāt |

cittasya kāryatvāditi | yasmāccittasya kāryam , tasmāt sā gamikā ||40||

siddhāntavādyāha -

tasya kāryatvaṃ tu cittantare'pi tulyamiti kathanna jñāyate ?

tasya kāryatvamityādi kriyā cittasya kāryatvāccittasya gamiketi cet ? cittasya tatkāryatvaṃ tu kriyāpratibhāsijñāne'pi tulyatvāttena kriyāpratibhāsenāpi kasmāt paracittaṃ na jñāyate ||41||

siddhāntavādī hetūpasaṃhāravyājena parapratibhāsijñānameva liṅgatvenābhyupagamayitumāha -

api ca, yadi tatkriyā svasattāmātreṇa svasantānaṃ pratyāyet, tadānupalabhya mānenāpi syāttathā pratipattiḥ |

api ca, yadi tatkriyetyādi | kiñceyaṃ kriyā sattāmātrāt paracittamavabodhayed ohosvit jñānāt ? yadi tāvad sattāmātrāditi, tadā kriyāmanupalabhyamānenāpi prāṇinā paracitta pratipadyeta ||42||

paramatamāśaṅkyāha -

na; jñānāpekṣatvālliṅgasyeti cet |

na; jñānāpekṣatvādityādi | na hi liṅgaṃ sattāmātrāt gamakaṃ bhavati | kiṃ tarhi ? jñānāt | tasmānnāyaṃ doṣaḥ ||43||

siddhāntavādyāha -

tadā tatra kimanayā paramparayā - paracittāt kriyā, kriyātaḥ jñānam, jñānāttasya pratipattiriti |

tadā tatretyādi syānmatam - liṅga jñānamapekṣya gamakamiti | hanta, tarhi na kiñcit prayojanamanayā paramparayā | tāṃ paramparāṃ darśayannāha - paracittāt kriyetyādi | paramparā tu paracittāt kriyā utpadyate , kriyātaḥ jñānam, jñānāttasya pratipattiriti ||44||

kaśya punarnyāya iti cedāha -

paracittaprabhavadharmi kriyāpratibhāsijñānamevāsya gamakaṃ bhavati |

paracittaprabhavadharmītyādi | paracittaprabhavadharmi kriyāpratibhāsijñānameva gamakamiti manvīta | paracittaprabhavadharmo'syāstīti vigrahaḥ ||45||

kriyetyapi yujyeta, kriyāpratibhāsijñānamityapi yujyeta | kaścātra viśeṣaḥ ? tasmād āha -

tasyādhigatistvantaśastadāśritatvāt |

tasyādhigatistvantaśa ityādi | yato hyabhyupagatāyāmapi kriyāyāṃ paracittasyādhigatistu kriyāpratibhāsijñānādhīnaiva | tasmāttadevāstu | kimanayā parikalpitayā kriyayā ||46||

evaṃ paraṃ nigṛhya svamatamākhyātumāha -

spandanamātrasāmānyāṃ kriyābhilāpajñānasāmānyasya kāraṇatvāt kāryeṇa lāraṇasya gatiḥ |

spandanamātrasāmānyaṃ kriyābhilāpajñānasāmānyasyetyādi | kriyābhilāpajñānasya sāmānyaṃ kriyābhilāpajñānasāmānyam | tasya kāraṇaṃ tvaviśeṣeṇa spandanamātramiṣṭam | tathā sati kriyāpratibhāsijñānasāmānyaṃ spandanamātrasāmānyasya gamakamiṣyate | ata eva uktam - kāryeṇa karaṇasya gati iti | jñānasāmānyetyatra sāmānyeti śabdena vicchinnāvicchinnapratibhāsakṛtaviśeṣaḥ nirākṛtaḥ | spandanamātretyatra mātreti śabdena rāgādikṛtaviśiṣṭaspandanaṃ nirākriyate ||47||

evaṃ sāmānyena kāryakāraṇabhāvaṃ nirdiśya kāryasya bhedamupadarśayitumāha -

tatra ātmaspandananimittakasyāntarmukhavṛttiḥ, anyasyānyathā | prāyeṇādhikṛtya asau bhedaḥ |

tatra ātmaspandananimittakasyetyādi | ātmaspandanātsamutthitaṃ yajjñānaṃ tasyāntarmukhapratibhāsatayā vṛttiḥ, paraspandanātsamutthitasya tu bahirmukhapratibhāsatayā | mukheti śabdo'trālambane vartate | prāyeṇādhikṛtyetyanena śaraprakṣepaṇādīnāaṃ parakṛtacālanādīnāṃ ca pradarśanam |48||

tatra syānmatam - bhavatu jāgradavasthāyāṃ kāryakāraṇabhāvaḥ, svapnāvasthāyāṃ tu tatkathamiti cet ? āha -

etayoḥ saḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvaḥ svāpādyavasthāyāmitarasyāmapi ca samānaḥ |

etayoḥ saḥ kāryakāraṇabhāva ityādi | yaścānantaroktaḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvaḥ, saḥ svāpajāgradavasthayośca samānaḥ | ādītyanena kāmaśokādibhirupahatāvasthānāṃ parigrahaḥ ||49||

nanu svapne samutthāpakaspandanameva nāsti | tatkathaṃ kāryakāraṇabhāvasya samānateti | tasmādāha -

bhrāntyavasthāyāṃ yathāsvaṃ pratyayaviśeṣopāśrayāt paraspandanādinimittodbhūtavijñānavāsanaiva kadācitparābhogādeḥ vyavahitādapi vṛttiṃ labhate, na tu atyantāsadābhogāt |

bhrāntyavasthāyāmityādi | bhrāntyavasthāyāmiti middhenopahatādyavasthāyām | yathāsvamityanena svapnasya middhaviśeṣaḥ, narakādeḥ karmavipākāvasthā ca parogṛhyate | pratyayaviśeṣo middhādiḥ | upāśrayaṇam upāśrayaḥ | pratyayaviśeṣasya upāśrayaḥ pratyayaviśeṣopāśrayaḥ | pratyayaviśeṣamupāśrayata iti yāvat | paracittena saṃprayuktaṃ spandanaṃ paraspandanam | ādītyanena mukhakāntiraktimādīnāṃ janakacittasya paroigrahaḥ paraspandanādi ca nimittaṃ ceti samāsaḥ | nimittatvamatrādhipatipratyayatvamiti draṣṭavyam | yasya kriyādipratibhāsivijñānasya tadanyasmāt spandanādinimittādudbhavituṃ śīlamasti tat paraspandādinimittodbhūtavijñānam | tasya vāsanā śaktiḥ | parābhogaḥ paramanaskāraḥ ādītyanena tatkālabhāvināṃ tadanyapratyayānāṃ parigrahaḥ | vyavahitaḥ kālaviprakṛṣṭaḥ | apīti śabdo'vyavahite devādyadhiṣṭhānāt svapnadarśane'pi | tasyāḥ vṛttilābhaḥ kriyāpratibhāsivijñānajananayogyātmatayā samavadhānam | evamuktaṃ bhavati - bhrāntyavasthāyāṃ pratyayaviśeṣasya upāśrayāt paraspandanādinimittadudbhūtavijñānavāsanā kadācit vyavahitād parābhogādapi vṛttiṃ labhate | yasyāstu parābhogo'tyantāsanna tasmād vṛttiṃ labhate ||50||

evaṃ svapnāvasthāyāmapi kriyāpratibhāsijñānānāṃ spandananimittakatvaṃ sādhayitvā upasaṃhartum āha -

tasmāt sarvāvasthāsu kriyādivijñapteḥ cittaspandanamanumīyata eva |

tasmāt sarvāvasthāsvityādi yasmādevamavyabhicāritvaṃ sādhitam, tasmāt svāpajāgradubhayorapyavasthayoḥ kriyāpratibhāsāt cittaspandanamanumīyata eveti sthitam | ādi ityanena abhilāparaktimādivijñaptīnāṃ parigrahaḥ ||51||

evaṃ svamataṃ nirdoṣīkṛtya paramate doṣamudbhāvayitumāha -

kriyātaḥ spandanapratipattau svāpa itarasmiñca syāt pratipattiratha vā naiva kadācana |

kriyātaḥ spandanapratipattāvityādi | yamnate kriyātaḥ spandanasya pratipattiḥ, tanmate svpnādāvapi kriyātaḥ spandanasya pratipattirbhavet | atha svapne kriyātaḥ spandanasya pratipattirneṣyeta, tadā tat jāgradavasthāyāmapi yujyeta na kadāciyt kriyātaḥ spandanasya pratipattirbhavediti vākyaśeṣaḥ ||52||

kathamiti cet ? tasmādāha -

paraspandanābhāve'pi kriyālambanodayāt |

paraspandanābhāve'pītyādi | tathāhi, svapne paracittaspandanābhāve'pi kriyālambanam udeti | yasyābhāve'pi yadutpadyate, na tattasya gamakaṃ yuktaṃ ||53||

pratividhātukāmo bāhyārthavādyāha -

bhavatvālambanodayaḥ, na tu kriyā | kriyayā spandanaṃ gamyete | bhrāntyavasthāyāṃ kriyaiva na bhavati | arthaśūnyajñānodayānna doṣaḥ |

bhavatvālambanodayarityādi | ālambanaṃ tu spandanābhāve'pyutpadyate, na tu kriyā | asmākaṃ mate kriyā spandanasya gamakam | sā ca bhrāntyavasthāyāṃ na bhavati | kathaṃ na bhavati ? āha - arthaśūnyajñānodayāditi | yasmāt bhrāntyavasthāyāmarthaśūnyāni jñānāni utpadhyante, tasmānnaiṣa doṣa iti pūrvapakṣāśaṅkā ||54||

siddhantavādyāha -

sarvaprakāravyapadeśasāmyāt kadācijjñānamarthaśūnyam, anyadānyathetyeṣo'dhikāraḥ kuto labdhaḥ ?

sarvaprakāravyapadeśasāmyādityādi | yasya vyapadeśasya santi sarve prakārāḥ sa sarvaprakāravyapadeśaḥ | sarvaprakāravyapadeśasāmye svapnāvasthāyāṃ jñānamarthaśūnyamutpadyate, jāgradavasthāyāṃ tu sārthamityetat jñānam, adhikāro vā bhavatā kuto labdhaḥ ? evamuktaṃ bhavati - jāgradavasthāvat svapnāvasthāyāmapi dṛśyākārādayaḥ sarve santi | tatkathaṃ tatra jñānamarthaśūnyamiti ||55||

paramatamāśaṅkitumāha -

atha middhādinā'vasthā'nyathābhāvaścet |

atha middhādinetyādi | yathāsyāmavasthāyāṃ middhadinā'rthaśūnyajñānānāmutpattirbhavati, tathā anyathābhāva it pūrvapakṣāśaṅkā ||56||

siddhāntavādyāha -

yadyevaṃ sambhavet, bhavatu avidyoipaplutatvāttathodayaḥ |

yadyevaṃ sambhavedityādi | yadi bhrāntivaśādavasthā'nyathābhāvādarthaśūnyaṃ jñānaṃ jāyata iti abhyupāgamyeta, tadā mahābhramarājñyā avidyāyāḥ sadbhāvāt tadvaśācca sarvāṇi jñānānyarthaśūnyāni jāyanta iti manyeran ||57||

tathā sati ko guṇaḥ ? āha -

tathā satyarthāntaravādahānyā ete'nekāśakyanigūhanāvatārāḥ mahākṛcchrā uttareṇaikena nihatā bhavanti |

tathā satyarthāntaravādetyādi | arthāntaraṃ vadatīti arthāntaravādaḥ | arthāntaravādasyaiva hānyā arthāntaravādahānyā | asya kṣemadharmebhyaścyutatvādayukto bhavati | yasmārthāntaravādasya aneke avatārāḥ doṣāḥ parihāralakṣaṇenāśakyanigūhanāḥ santyamī anekāśakyanigūhanāvatārāḥ | mahāntaḥ kṛcchrāḥ santyasyeti mahākṛcchrāḥ | uttereṇaikeneti ekasmāduttarāt | nihatāḥ nirākṛtāḥ | aśakyanigūhanāvatāratvaṃ tu kṛte ekasya parihāre'nyānyadoṣodbhavāt | evamuktaṃ bhavati - yadā'vidyopaplutatvāt sarveṣāṃ jñānānāmarthaśūnyatvamabhyupagamyate, tadā'rthāntaravādasya ye'nekāśakyanigūhanāvatārāsta uttareṇaikena nirākṛtā bhavanti ||58||

evaṃ santānāntarasiddhiṃ parisamāpyāvaśiṣṭān durupālambhān parihartukāmaḥ paramatamāśaṅkitum āha -

nanu tayoḥ darśanāt kāyavāgvijñaptibhyāṃ svamutthāpakacittasyānumānamiti nyāyyam | na tu santānāntarasambaddhavijñāptipratibhāsijñāne paravijñaptī bhavitumarhataḥ, tayoranupādānopādeyatvāditi cet |

nanu tayoḥ darśanātkāyavāgvijñaptibhyāmityādi | nanvityanenākṣamyatāṃ darśayati | nanu kāyavāgvijñaptipratibhāsābhyāṃ tayoḥ samutthāpakacittasyānumānamiti nyāyyam | tatra syānmatam - etadapi samānamiti | ata āha - santānāntarasambaddhetyādi | ye ca śrotṛsantānasambaddhavijñaptipratibhāsijñāne spandanasya gamake iti bhavadbhiriṣṭe, kathaṃ te vaktuḥ vijñaptī syātām ? atra santāneti śrotuḥ santānaḥ | tamapekṣya antareti śabdena vaktuḥ parigrahaḥ | kasmānnārhataḥ ? ityāha - tayoḥ anupādānopādeyatvāditi | ayamabhiprāyaḥ - śrotṛsantānapratibaddhavijñaptipratibhāsasya na vaktuḥ vivakṣayā sahopādānopādeyabhāvaḥ, bhinnasantānaparyāppannatvāditi pūrvapakṣaḥ ||59||

tatra siddhāntavādyāha -

nocyate paracittasamitthitavijñaptirūpatvāt tatra pratibhāsijñānena samutthāpakacittaṃ gamyata iti | kiṃ tarhi ? tasya kāryatvāt |

nocyata ityādi | paracittena samutthitā paracittasamitthitā | paracittasamitthitā ca vijñaptiśceti paracittasamutthitavijñaptiḥ | sā yasya pratibhāsino jñānasya rūpaṃ svabhāvo'sti tattathā | tasya bhāvaḥ tattvam | tasmāt paracittasamutthitavijñaptirūpatvāt | tatra vijñapteḥ pratibhāso'syāstīti pratibhāsi | evamuktaṃ bhavati - yasmāt tatra pratibhāsi jñānaṃ paracittasamutthitavijñaptirūpam, tasmāt samutthāpakacittaṃ gamyata iti vayamapi nābhyupagacchāmaḥ | yadi nābhyupagamyate, kiṃ tarhi abhyupagamyata iti cet ? āha - kiṃ tarhi ? tasya kāryatvād iti | yasmād vijñaptipratibhāsijñānaṃ paracittasya kāryam, tasmāt paracittaṃ gamyate | atra paracittaṃ vaktuścittamabhipretam ||60||

yadi śrotṛsantānājjāte kriyāvāgākārake jñāne vijñaptitvena neṣyete, kā punaranyā vijñaptiścet | tasmādāha -

vijñaptiriti samutthāpakacittasantānājjāte kriyāvāgākārake jñāne eva |

vijñaptirityādi | samutthāpakacittasantānājjāte ye kriyāvāgākārake jñāne te vijñaptitvena vyapadiśyete | evamuktaṃ bhavati - vaktureva ye gamanābhilāpane kriyāvāgākārake jñāne te vijñaptīti ucyete ||61||

samutthāpakacittaṃ svaparasantānagatayoḥ kriyāvāgākārakajñāneyoryathā kāraṇabhāvo bhavati taddarśayitumāha -

samutthāpakacittaṃ ca tayorevopādānakāraṇam, santānāntarajñānayostu adhipatipratyayaḥ |

samutthāpakacittam ca tayorityādi | upādānākāraṇamasādhāraṇakāraṇe vartate | samutthāpakacittaṃ svasantānagatayoḥ kriyāvāgākārakayorevopādānakāraṇam, parasantānasambaddhayostvadhipatipratyayaḥ | taccopādānakāraṇaṃ paratamapekṣya upanyastam | svamate tu upādānakāraṇamālayavijñānamiṣyate, na tu vivakṣācittam ||62||

evaṃ tāvat svasantānāgatayoḥ kriyāvāgākārakayorvijñaptivaṃ pratipāditam | santānāntarasaṃbaddhayośca sādhayitumāha -

vijñapterūpādānātte janite | tatsambandhenopacārād vijñaptī bhavataḥ |

vijñapterūpādānātte janite ityādi | vijñapteryadupādānakāraṇaṃ tena te santānāntarasambaddhakriyāvāgākārake jñāne janite | tajjanisambandhena tena hetunā upacārād vijñaptīti vyapadiśyete ||63||

syānmatam - svasamutthāpakacittasya vijñāpanād vijñaptiḥ | na hi śrotā vaktṛsantānājjāte kriyāvākpratibhāsijñāne upalabhate | tathā hi, vaktā śrotā cobhāvapi svasvapratibhāsamanu bhavataḥ | tatkathaṃ te'nālambane vijñaptitvena svasamutthāpakasya gamake iti | tasmādāha -

bhavatu svaparayoḥ svasvapratibhāsasyānubhavaḥ, taimirikadvayadṛṣṭadvicandravat | tathāvidhavijñānasya hetuḥ vāsanotpādasvabhāvaviśeṣo'nādikālikaikārthagrāhādhyavasāyitvāt, ekahetusambhūtayoḥ svaparavijñaptijñānayoḥ vijñaptitvena upacāraḥ |

bhavatu svaparayorityādi | svapareti vaktā śrotā ca | svasya svasya pratibhāsasya anubhavaḥ svasvapratibhāsasyānubhavaḥ | taimirikadvayena pratibhāsasyānubhavaḥ taimirikadvayadṛṣṭadvicandram | tena tulyatvāt tadvat | tathāvidhavijñānamiti ekārthagrāhādhyavasāyi vijñānaṃ matam | tasya hetuḥ ekārthagrāhādhyavasāyasyānubhavitṛ pūrvavijñānam | tajjanitā vāsanā śaktirūpā | tasyā utpāda utpādavyayalakṣaṇaparamparāyā udayaḥ | svarūpa utpādasvabhāvaḥ | tasya viśeṣa ekārthagrāhādhyavasāyivijñānopajanane samarthātmani sthitiḥ |

anādiścāsau kālaśceti anādikālaḥ | tasmādāgato'nādikālikaḥ | atha vā'nādikāle bhavo'nādikālikaḥ | na ādikālikaḥ anādikālikaḥ | ekaścāsau arthaśceti ekārthaḥ | gamanavāgādisvaparavijñaptyoḥ buddhyā ekīkaraṇam | ekārthagrāheti ekārthagrāhijñānam | ekārthagrāhādhyavasāyi iti adhyavasāyijñānam | tathā hi, vaktā caivaṃ cintayati - yanmayā kathitaṃ tat śrotrā jñātam | śrotā'pyevaṃ cintayati - yadanena kathitaṃ tanmayā pratītam | ityevaṃ ekārthagrāhādhyavasāyaḥ |

ekahetunā samutthāpakena ye sambhūte te ekahetusambhūte | svaparavijñaptijñānayoḥ vaktṛśrotṛkriyāvāgākārakajñānayoḥ vijñaptitvenopacāraḥ vijñaptitvena vyapadeśaḥ | evaṃ vaktā śrotā ca svasvapratibhāsamanubhavataḥ | tathāpi tayoḥ ya ekahetusambhūte kriyāvāgākārakajñāne ta ekārthapratītiniyamād vijñaptitvena vyapadiśyete |

ekārthagrāhādhyavasāyastu tathāvidhavijñānasya heturvāsanotpādasvabhāvaviśeṣo'nādikālikatvād | taimirikadvayadṛṣṭadvicandravaditi dṛṣṭāntaḥ | ekaḥ taimirikaḥ dvitīyaṃ taimirikaṃ 'paśya' iti "aparaṃ candraṃ' darśayati | tena ca 'dṛśyate" ityucyate | tatra 'mayā asmaidarśitaḥ' ityevaṃ darśakasyābhimāno bhavati | śrotā'pi 'anena mahyaṃ darśitaḥ iti cintayati | tathāpi tau svasvapratibhāsaṃ prativittaḥ | tadvadatrāpi ekārthapratītiniyamāt svaparavijñaptijñānayorvijñaptitvenopacāro bhavati ||64||

tṛṇāvalambina iva bāhyārthabādinaḥ prāhuḥ -

kiñca kriyādipratibhāsivijñānāt kāryaliṅgājjātaṃ yatparacittajñānaṃ

tatparacittaṃ viṣayīkriyata āhosvinna ? viṣayīkaraṇe'rthāntaraṃ syāt |

aviṣayatve tu kathaṃ jñānena paracittasattā pratīyate ? tatsvarūpājñāne

tatsiddherasambhavāditi cet ?

kiñca kriyādipratibhāsītyādi | kriyādipratibhāso'sti yasya vijñānasya tat kriyādipratibhāsivijñānam | tadeva kāryaliṅgam | tasmājjātaṃ kriyādipratibhāsivijñānāt kāryaliṅgājjātaṃ yat paracittasya svarūpaṃ viṣayīkaroti āhosvinneti dvidhā parīkṣā | prathamavikalpe doṣaṃ darśayotumāha - viṣayīkaraṇa ityādi | yadi nāma viṣayīkaroti, tadā tasya viṣayaḥ pṛthak syāt | dvitīyavikalpamupadarśayannāha - aviṣayatve tvityādi | atha na viṣayīkaroti, tadā kathaṃ paracittasattā jñāyate ? kathaṃ na jñāyate ? āha - tatsvarūpājñāna ityādi | tatsvarūpajñānādhīno hi bhāvopacāraḥ | sa tu tadabhāve na bhavatīti pūrvapakṣaḥ ||65||

siddhāntavādinaḥ -

eṣa prasaṅgo'pi samaḥ |

eṣa prasaṅgo'pi sama iti ||66||

samatāṃ darśayitumāha -

kriyāvāgbhyāṃ paracittapratipattimatāmapi tatsvarūpaviṣayīkaraṇe svacittajñānavattadākārasyāpi jñānaṃ prasajyeta | tadajñāne tu tena tatsvarūpasya grahaṇaṃ katham |

kriyāvāgbhyāmityādi | kiñca yadā bāhyārthāvādibhiḥ kriyāvāgbhyāṃ liṅgābhyāṃ paracittaṃ jñāyate, tadā tasya paracittasya svarūpaṃ viṣayīkriyata āhosvinna ? yadi nāma viṣayīkriyate , tadā paracittasyākāro'pi jñāyeta | atha na viṣayīkriyate, tadā tena jñānena pratipattrā vā kathaṃ jñāyeta ? ||67||

bāhyārthāvādināṃ matamāśaṅkitumāha -

atha liṅgāt sāmānyādhigateḥ nākārasya pratītiriti cet ?

atha liṅgāt sāmānyādhigate ityādi | yasmālliṅgaṃ sāmānyena vyāptam, na tu viśeṣeṇa | tasmātsāmānyameva jñāyate, na viśeṣa iti pūrvapakṣāśaṅkā ||68||

siddhāntavādyāha -

kiñca tatsāmānyaṃ paracittamevānyadvā''hosvidavācyam |

kiñca tatsāmānyamityādi | kiñca tatsāmānyaṃ paracittameva vā, anyadvā, āhosvidavācyamiti tridhā parīkṣā ||69||

vikalpadvayaṃ nirākartumāha -

anyatvāvācyatvayorekatve tvanena tatsāmānyameva gṛhyeta, na paracittam |

tatkathamanena tad gamyate |

anyatvāvācyayorekatva ityādi | anyatvapakṣe sāmānyameva gṛhyeta, na paracittam | tasmāt kathamanena jñānena tat paracittaṃ jñāyate ? avācyatvapakṣe'pi eṣa eva nayaḥ ||70||

abhedapakṣaṃ nirākartumāha -

nāpi sāmānyaṃ paracittameva | tathā sati tadākārastāpi jñānaṃ prasajyeta ityuktam |

nāpi sāmānyaṃ paracittamevetyādi | nāpi sāmānyaṃ paracittasya svarūpam | kasmāt ? āha - athā satītyādi | yadi paracittādananyasya sāmānyasya grahaṇamabhyupagamyate, tadā paracittākārasyāpi jñānaṃ prasajyeta ityuktaṃ prāk ||71||

syādetat - tathā'stu, ko doṣaḥ ? ucyate -

na hyeṣā anumānaprakriyā |

na hyeṣā anumānaprakriyeti ||72||

tadeva vivṛṇoti -

na hyanumānamarthasvarūpasya grāhakam | pratyakṣavat pratibhāsāsaviśiṣṭatvādeḥ prasaṅgāt |

na hyanumānamarthasvarūpasyetyādi | na hyanumānaṃ svalakṣaṇasya grāhakatveneṣyate | pratyakṣeti tu vaidharmyadṛṣṭāntaḥ | kathanna svalakṣaṇasya grāhakatveneṣyate cet ? āha - pratibhāsāviśiṣṭatvādeḥ prasaṅgāditi | anumānasyāpi pratyakṣavat sfuṭābhatā syāt | ādirityanena pratyakṣodbhūtadharmiṇo atītādiviṣayasya cāgrāhakatvamapi prasajyeta ||73||

syādetat - pratibhāsāviśiṣṭatvābhyupagamyata eveti | āha -

tena nāsya prāmāṇyam |

tena nāsya prāmāṇyamiti | pratibhāsāviśiṣṭatvādāvabhyupagate sati anumānenārthasvarūpasya grahaṇam | tena bhavatu prāmāṇyamiti cet ? naiṣa nyāyaḥ ||74||

yadi pramāṇasya svalakṣaṇagrahaṇanibandhanatvaṃ neṣyate, tatkathamasya pramāṇyamiti cedāha -

tatsvarūpāgrahe'pyabhipretārthāvisaṃvādāt prāmāṇyam |

tatsvarūpāgrahe'pītyādi | na hyanumānena viṣayasvarūpasya grahaṇam, apitu abhipretārthāvisaṃvādakatvāt prāmāṇyamiṣyate | kvacit granthe'tena nāsya prāmāṇyam' iti pāṭhaḥ | tatra tvevaṃ yojanīyam - yadā pratibhāsādayo'bhinnāḥ, tadā pramāṇameva na taditi | yadi anumānena svalakṣaṇaṃ gṛhyeta, tarhi pramāṇameva neṣyate | katham ? āha - tatsvarūpāgrahe'pītyādi | svarūpasyāgrahe'pyabhipretārthāvisaṃvāditvādasya prāmāṇyam, na tu svalakṣaṇagrahaṇāditi ||75||

syādevam - svalakṣaṇasyāgrahaṇe'pyaparāparānumānena paracittamanumīyate | kathaṃ tadgrahaṇaṃ nivāryate ? ata āha -

dhūmādiliṅgājjātamapi na vahnyādisvarūpaviṣayi , dṛṣṭenāviśeṣaprasaṅgāt,

anumānasyātītādau niḥsvabhāvatāyāṃ cāpravṛtteḥ, arthakriyāprasaṅgācca |



dhūmādiliṅgājjātamapītyādi | na hi dhūmādiliṅgājjātamanumānaṃ vahnyādeḥ svarūpasya grāhakatveneṣyate | katham ? āha - dṛṣṭenāviśeṣaprasaṅġāditi | yadyanumānaṃ svalakṣaṇaviṣayaṃ gṛhṇīyāt , tadā pratyakṣeṇa tulyatvaṃ prasajyeta | nāpyanumānamatītānāgataviṣayi, vastunaḥ niḥsvabhāvatāviṣayi ca syāt | pratyakṣapratibhāsasyevānumānavikalpapratibhāsasyāpyarthakriyākāritvaṃ syāt ||76||

syādetat - paracittānumāne tasyāvisaṃvāditvameva nāsti | ata āha -

paracittānumāne'pyabhipretārthāvisaṃvādo'styeva |

paracittānumāne'pītyādi ||77||

avisaṃvāditvasyopapattiṃ darśayannāha -

tatpravartanadvāreṇa prāṇyantarasattāṃ pratipadya punaḥ punarvyavahārapravṛttau tadādhipatyādāgatārthasya prāpteḥ |

tatpravartanadvāreṇa prāṇyantaramityādi | pravṛttivyāpārāt paracittasyānumānam | taddvāreṇa prāṇyantarasattāṃ pratipadya yadi punaḥ punarvyavahārapravṛttimabhilāṣavyāyāmānyatrānyatragamanādikāṃ kuryāt, tadā prāṇyantararādhipatyenāgato'rthassaṃlāpādiḥ prāpyate | atha vā punaḥ punarvyavahārapravṛttimabhilāṣavyāyāmadeśāntaragamanādikāṃ kuryāt, tadā prāṇyantarādhipatyena agato'rthaḥ saṃlāpāt | atha vā punaḥ punarvyahāre pravartanamiti saṃlāpādanu gṛhapraveśaḥ, tadanu āsanadānam, tadanu cānnapānadānam, tadanu ca śayyāsanaprajñapanam, pādaprakṣālanodakadānam, pādamardanamityādīni ||78||

kiṃ punaruttaravyahārasādhanāya prāmāṇyamiṣyata iti cet ? ata āha -

tanmātrafalacintakasya lokasya prāṇyantarānumāne pravṛtteśca |

tanmātrafalacintakasyetyādi | tanmātraṃ falamiti tanmātrafalam | taditi śabdo'rthakriyāyāṃ vartate | mātreti śabdaḥ māne | yo lokaḥ tanmātrafalaṃ cintayati saḥ tanmātrafalacintakaḥ pravṛttaḥ | evamuktaṃ bhavati - yo laukikaprāṇyantarasattāmanuminoti , saḥ prāṇyantaradhipatyādāgatām arthakriyāṃ prāpnoti | ceti śabdena tanmātraṃ lokasya pravṛttifalamityartho'vasīyate ||79||

kathametat ? āha -

uttarārthaviśeṣapratibhāsijñānānubhavodayamātreṇa puruṣasya nirākāṅkṣatvāt |

uttarārthaviśeṣapratibhāsītyādi | uttārārthaviśeṣo dāhapākādiḥ | tathā pratibhāsituṃ śīlaṃ yasya jñānasya tattathā | tasyānubhavaḥ uttarārthaviśeṣapratibhāsijñānānubhavaḥ | tasyodaya eva udayamātram | nirākāṅkṣa ityākāṅkṣārahitaḥ | tasya bhāvaḥ tattvam | tasmāt nirākāṅkṣatvāt | evamuktaṃ bhavati - yadā puruṣasya vahnyupalabdheranu dāhādipratibhāsijñānānubhavodayaḥ, tadaivāyaṃ nirākāṅkṣo bhavati ||80||

bhavatu tanmātreṇaiva puruṣaḥ nirākāṅkṣaḥ, kintu kathaṃ tanmātreṇa pūrvajñānasya prāmāṇyamiti cet ? āha -

pūrvajñānena vyavahārasamāpteḥ kṛtārthatvaṃ pramāṇatvena siddhatvāt |

pūrvajñānenetyādi | yasmād yathoktavidhinā pūrvajñānena vyavahāraparisamāptiḥ, tasmād arthakriyākāritvaṃ pramāṇatvena vyavasthāpyate ||81||

atra paro vyabhicāraṃ darśayannāha -

nanu svapne'pi pūrvajñānāduttarārthapratibhāsijñānāputpadyate | na tanmātreṇa

pūrvajñānasya prāmāṇyaṃ yujyate, tadānīṃ sarveṣāṃ jñānānāṃ bhrāntatvāt |



nanu svapne'pītyādi | svapne'pi pūrvajñānanimittakamuttarārthakriyāpratibhāsijñānam utpadyate | na tanmātreṇa pūrvajñānasya prāmāṇyaṃ yujyate | kathaṃ na yujyate ? āha - tadānīṃ sarveṣāṃ jñānānāmityādi | svapne sarvāṇi jñānāni bhrāntānyeveti pūrvapakṣaḥ ||82||

siddhāntavādyāha -

tatra vijñaptijñānaṃ na kadāciccittaspandanādhipatyena vinā udbhavatītyataḥ tābhyāṃ te anumīyete | bhrāntivaśāt kadācid vyavahite'pyudeti, na tu tadādhipatyarahitatvam | viśeṣastvasti sākṣātparamparayā cetyuktam |

tatra vijñaptijñānamityādi | kriyāvāgākārakaṃ jñānaṃ spandanādhipatyena vinā nodbhavati | ityataḥ tābhyāṃ te anumīyete | viśeṣastvasyeṣaḥ - tato'pio upaplutāvasthāyāṃ vyavahitādhipatyāt paramparayā udayaḥ, jāgradavasthāyāṃ tu avyahitatvena | sarvametad vivecitaṃ prāgeva ||83||

evaṃ vijñaptijñānānāmubhayorapyavasthayoḥ spandanāyattatvaṃ sādhayitvā svapnāvasthāyāṃ vijñaptijñānād uttarakālabhāvijñānāni yathā spandanāyattāni bhavanti tathā pratipādayitumāha -

tatra yathā pūrvavijñaptijñānānāṃ paramparayā spandanādhipatyādudayaḥ tathā taduttarāvasthābhāvināmapi |

tatra yathā pūrvavijñaptijñānānāmityādi | svapnāvasthāyāṃ yathā pūrvavijñaptijñānānāṃ paramparayā spandanadhīpatyādudayaḥ, tathā taduttarāvasthābhāvināmapi | tatra paramparā tvevam - jāgradavasthāyāṃ prathamaṃ tāvat paraspandanādhipatyād vijñaptijñāne, tābhyāṃ prāṇyantarasattāyā anumānam, prāṇyantarasattānumānāt praveśajñānam, tadanu abhivādananamaskārajñāne, tābhyāmapyanu saṃlāpāsanadānādijñānam, tathā ca paṭhanapāṭhanasvādhyāyādijñānāni, tatastāvat kālakrameṇa śayanajñānam, tataḥ nidrāmupaiti | nidrāpūrvabhāvanāvaśācca punarvijñaptijñānayorudayaḥ | tataḥ punaḥ prāṇyantarasattāyā anumānam | tataśca punaḥ praveśasaṃlāpādijñānānāmudayaḥ ||84||

praveśādijñānānāṃ pāramparyeṇotpattiḥ | tāmeva darśayannāha -

vijñaptijñānāśrayaspandanottarāvasthācittasantānādeva paramparayotpādaḥ |

vijñaptijñānāśrayetyādi | jāgradavasthāyāṃ vijñaptijñānasyāśrayo yatparasantānavartispandanaṃ tasya uttarāvasthā, yā pramātranumānasyottaravartisaṃlāpādivyavahārākārajñānajananasamarthā | tadbhāvīni yāni cittāni vijñaptijñānāśrayaspandanottarāvasthācittasantānaḥ, tasmād yathoktaprakāreṇa svapnāvasthāyāṃ praveśādijñānānāṃ paramparayotpādaḥ ||85||

syānmatam - bhavatu paramparayotpādaḥ, vyabhicārastu tadavastha eva | ata evāha -

tatrāpi yādṛganumānaṃ tādṛgavisaṃvādo vyavahāraścāpyastyeveti kenāpi na gṛhyete |

tatrā yādṛganumānamityādi | svapnāvasthāyāmapi yādṛk yāvatkālaṃ paracittasya anumānaṃ tādṛk tāvatkālamātraṃ saṃlāpādirūpo'visaṃvādo'styeva | anyo'nyasaṃbaddho vyavahāraścāpi tāvatkālamrātramastyeva | ityataḥ na kaścid vyabhicāradoṣaḥ | anyaiścāsyaivānyathā vyākhyā kriyate | ta evaṃ vyācakṣate - tatra svapnāvasthāyāmapi kāryaliṅgasya kāraṇe'vyabhicārād yādṛk utpattidharmatayā paramparayā pūrvajñānasyānumānam, tādṛk aprabuddhacittasyāpyarthakriyāpratibhāsodayalakṣaṇo'visaṃvādo'styeva | kālaviprakṛṣṭākārānumānasyāvisaṃvādalakṣaṇasadbhāvādeva vyavahāraścāpi | ityataḥ kenāpi na gṛhyata iti ||86||

tathā parābhūto'pi bāhyārthavādī dhṛtimatyajan punarācaṣṭe -

paracittānumānena tatsvarūpāgrahe'pyavisaṃvādād bhavatu tathā prāmāṇyam |

sākṣāt paracittavidāṃ tu katham ? yadi tāvat paracittasya svarūpaṃ sākṣāt

jānanti, tadā tasyārthāntaragrahaṇaṃ syāt | atha na jānanti, kathaṃ te

sākṣādvidaḥ ?

paracittānumānenetyādi | paracittānumānena tatsvarūpāgrahe'pyavisaṃvādād bhavatu tasya prāmāṇyam, ye tu sākṣāt paracittavidaḥ teṣāṃ tu katham ? yadi tāvat paracittasya svarūpaṃ sākṣājjānanti, tadāsya pratyakṣasya grāhyamarthāntaraṃ syāt | atha na jānanti, tadā kathaṃ te yoginaḥ sākṣādvida iti matam ||87||

hetumupasaṃharannāha -

kathaṃ nāma pratyakṣeṇārthasvarūpasyāgrahaṇaṃ ca bhavati | atha na ġṛhyate, kathaṃ tarhi pramaṇamiti cet ?

kathaṃ nāma pratyakṣeṇetyādi | pratyakṣamarthasvarūpasya grāhakamitīṣyate | yadi arthasvarūpaṃ na gṛhyate , kīdṛk tatpratyakṣam ? arthasvarūpāgrahaṇe pramāṇatvaṃ nirākartumāha - atha na gṛhyate kathaṃ tarhi pramāṇamiti | svarūpagrahaṇanibandhanaṃ hyasya pramāṇatvam | iti pūrvapakṣāśaṅkā ||88||

siddhāntavādinaḥ -

aprahīṇagrāhyagrāhakavikalpayogināṃ paracittajñānamapi vyavahāre'visaṃvādādeva pramāṇam, rūpādidarśanavat; āśrayāparāvṛtteḥ |

aprahīṇagrāhyagrāhakavikalpayogināmityādi | aprahīṇaḥ grāhyagrāhakavikalpo yeṣāṃ yogināṃ teṣāṃ tathā | teṣāṃ yat paracittajñānaṃ tad vyavahāre'visaṃvādādeva pramāṇam, asmadādisambaddharūpādidarśanavat | na tu svarūpagrahaṇāt | aprahīṇagrāhyagrāhakavikalpasya hetum āha - āśrayāparāvṛtteriti | tathā hi , teṣāmālayavijñānalakṣaṇamaparāvṛttam | tasya parāvṛttiḥ grāhyagrāhakavikalpavāsanāyāḥ prahāṇam ||89||

yadi paracittajñānaṃ na svarūpasya grāhakam, kathaṃ tarhi tat sfuṭākārakaṃ bhavatīti cet ? āha -

yogabalāddhi teṣāṃ jñānaṃ paracittakāraviśeṣānukāri sfuṭābhamupajāyate, karmadevādyadhiṣṭhānabalāt satyasvapnadarśanavat |

yogabalāddhītyādi | bhāvanābalāddhi yogināṃ paracittajñānaṃ paracittākāraviśeṣānukāri sfuṭamupajāyate, yathā karmabalād devādyadhiṣṭhānabalācca satyasvapnadarśināṃ jñānaṃ sfuṭamarthākāramudeti ||90||

yadyevaṃ cintyeta - bhavatu bhāvanābalādeva yogināṃ paracittajñānam, tena cittasvarūpasyāgrahaṇaṃ tu kathamiti | āha -

teṣāmapi na paracittāviṣayitvena jñānamudeti | te'pi tadākārasadṛśasvacittapratibhāsameva jānantītyevamavadhāraṇād paracittavida iti vyavahāraḥ |

teṣāmapi na paracittaviṣayitvenetyādi | tat bhāvanābalājjātamapi paracittasya svarūpaṃ viṣayīkartuṃ na samartham | tathāvidhānāṃ yogināṃ grāhyagrāhakaviklpasyāprahīṇatvāt | yadi yoginaḥ paracittasya svarūpaṃ na jānanti, kathaṃ paracittavida ityavadhāryate cet ? āha - te'pi svacittapratibhāsam ityādi | yogino'pi paracittākārasadṛśena svacittapratibhāsenaiva paracittaṃ jānanti [ iti paracittavidaḥ ] ityevamavadhāraṇaṃ kṛtvā vyavahāraḥ pravartate || 91||

yadi tat svarūpaṃ na gṛhṇāti, kathaṃ tarhi pratyakṣam ? kathaṃ ca prāmāṇyamiti cedāha -

tadākārānukārisfuṭābhatvāt tatpratyakṣam, avisaṃvāaditvācca prāmāṇamiti matam |

tadākārānukārisfuṭābhatvāt tatpratyakṣamityādi | yasmāt paracittasyākāraṃ sfuṭamanukaroti, tasmāt pratyakṣamiti matam | yasmāccāvisaṃvādi tasmāt pramāṇam ||92||

prahīṇagrāhyagrāhakavikalpānāṃ tathāgatānāṃ yat paracittajñānam, tat paracittasya svarūpaṃ viṣayīkaroti, āhosvinna | yadi karoti, tasyārtho'rthāntaraṃ syāt | atha na karoti, tadā bhagavataḥ jñānamapyayathārtha syāditi cet ? āha -

acintyo hi bhagavataḥ sarvārthādhigamaḥ, sarvathā jñānabhidhānaviṣayātītatvāt |

acintyo hi bhagavataḥ sarvārthādhigama ityādi | acintyo hi yogivaryāṇāṃ tathā gatānāṃ buddhagocaraḥ | teṣāṃ tu na kevalaṃ paracittajñānamacintyam, api tvaviśeṣeṇa sarvārthasarvākārajñānamapi acintyam | kasmāt ? āha - tadavasthāyāḥ sarvathā jñānabhidhānaviṣayātītatvāditi | tathāgataḥjñānādanyajñānenāvadhārayitumaśakyatvāt jñānaviṣayātītaḥ | tasmād svarūpasya yathāvadanadhigamādeva abhidhānaviṣayātītaḥ |

tathāgatānāṃ punaḥ dvividhaṃ sarvārthajñānam | ādarśajñānena sarvadharmasvabhāvatathatājñānam, pratyavekṣaṇajñānena ca sarvavastujñānam | tatra ādarśajñānaṃ grāhyagrāhakavikalpenāsamprayuktaṃ bhavati | sarvadharmasvabhāvatathatāyāḥ vedanāt sarvārthajñānam, lokottarajñānasvabhāvatvāt |

pratyavekṣaṇajñānaṃ lokottarajñānapṛṣṭhalabdhagrāhyagrāhakavikalpasaṃprayuktāt sarvasūkṣmāvṛtavyavahitavastūnāṃ sarvākāraṃ jānātītyataḥ laukikasarvākārajñānam, lokottarajñānapṛṣṭhalabdhalaukikajñānasvabhāvatvāt | tasmāt pratyavekṣaṇajñānaṃ sarvārthajñānanayena na virudhyate | nāpi vitatham, tasya grāhyagrāhakavikalpasadbhāvābhyupagamāt, tasya cāvitathatvena darśanāt |

samatājñānamādarśajñānamālambate,pratītyasamutpannavastumātraviṣayitvāt | kṛtyānuṣṭhānajñānaṃ tu svasāmānyalakṣaṇaviṣayi | evaṃ sati caturjñānasvabhāvaḥ tathāgataḥ | tatra ādarśajñānaṃ lokottaram | tatpṛṣṭhalabdhānyanyāni ca laukikāni | tadevaṃ bhagavataḥ sarvārthajñānam eteṣu caturṣu yathāyogaṃ yojanīyam ||93||

santānāntarasiddherhi vyākhyānād padavigrahaiḥ |

kuśalaṃ yanmayā'vāptaṃ siddhiṃ tenāpnuyājjanaḥ ||

santānāntarasaṃsiddhervāṅmātravivṛtiḥ kṛtā |

ṭīkā vinītadevena saṃbuddhatvābhilāṣiṇā ||
