iha dahanādinā dhūmāderarthāntarasya vyāptistadutpattilakṣaṇā | sā ca viśiṣṭānvayavyatirekagrahaṇapravaṇaviśiṣṭapratyakṣānupalambhasādhaneti nyāyaḥ | atra ca bhaṭṭaprabhṛtayo vipratipadyante | tathā hi te'gnimati pradeśe dhūmasya bhūyodarśanaṃ tadviyukte ca tathaivādarśanamityanvayavyatirekitvaṃ kalpayāmbabhūvuḥ |
nanu bhūyasāpi pravṛtte darśanādarśane ghaṭakulaṭādāvupalabdho vyabhicāra iti cet | kimetāvatā tatrāpyanumānamastu, tadvadvā dhūmādāvapi bhā bhūt | prathamapakṣastāvad vyabhicārādeva nirastaḥ | dvitīyo('pi) vyabhicārādeva | na hyanyasya vyabhicāre dhūmasya kiñcit | tasmādagnidhūmayoravyabhicārasyāsaṃbhave śatamapi tadupapattayaḥ tatprasādhakaviśiṣṭapratyakṣānupalambhā vā nānumānopayoginaḥ | saṃbhave vā kiṃ tadutpattyā tadupayoginā viśiṣṭapratyakṣānupalambhena, darśanādarśanābhyāmevāvyabhicārasiddheḥ | tathā ca kāśikākāraḥ prācīnānekadarśanajanitasaṃskārasahāyenacarameṇa cetasā dhūmasyāgniniyatatvaṃ gṛhyata iti ||
trilocanastvāha - pratyakṣānupalambhayorviśeṣaviṣayatvāt kathaṃ tābhyāṃ sāmānyayoḥ saṃbandhapratipattiḥ | athānagnivyāvṛttenādhūmavyāvṛttasya saṃbandhaḥ pratīyata eveti | nanu so'pi kasya pramāṇasya viṣayaḥ | na tāvatpratyakṣasya, svalakṣaṇaviṣayatvāttasya | nāpyanumānasya, tasyāpi tatpūrvakatvāt | na ca vyāvṛtyoḥ kaścitsaṃbandhaḥ | atha pratyakṣapṛṣṭhabhāvī vikalpo dṛṣṭe bhede'bhedamadhyavasyati, tadeva sāmānyam | evamapi vikalpānāṃ na vastvena viṣayaḥ | api tu grāhyākāraḥ | sa ca na vastu | vastu tu teṣāṃ parokṣameveti, kathaṃ tenāpi sambandhagrahaḥ | asmākaṃ tu bhūyodarśanasahāyena manasā tajjātīyānāṃ saṃbandho gṛhīto bhavati | ato dhūmo nāgniṃ vyabhicarati | tadvyabhicāre dhūma upādhirahitaṃ saṃbandhamatikrāmediti hetovipakṣaśaṅkānivartakaṃ pramāṇamupalabdhilakṣaṇaprāptopādhivirahaheturanupalambhākhyaṃ pratyakṣameva | tataḥ siddhaḥ svābhāvikaḥ sambandhaḥ ||
vācaspatestu prapañcaḥ | tathā hi dhumādīnāṃ vahnyādibhiḥ svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandhaḥ | na tu vahnyādīnāṃ dhūmādibhiḥ | te hi vināpi dhūmādibhirupalabhyante | vahnyādayastu yadārdrendhanasaṃbandhamanubhavanti tadā dhūmādibhiḥ saṃbadhyante | vahnayādīnāṃ tu sphuṭamārdrendhanādyupādhikṛtaḥ saṃbandho na tu svābhāvikaḥ | tato'niyataḥ | svābhāvikastu dhūmādīnāṃ vahnayādibhiḥ saṃbandhaḥ, tadupādheranupalabhyamānatvāt | kvacid vyabhicārasyādarśanāt anupalabhyamānasyāpi kalpanānupapatteḥ | na cādṛśyamāno'pi darśanānarhatayā sādhakabādhakapramāṇābhāvena sagdihyamāna upādhiḥ saṃbandhasya svābhāvikatvaṃ pratibadhnātīti yuktam |
avaśyaṃ śaṅkayā bhāvyaṃ niyāmakamapaśyatām
iti tu dattāvakāśā laukikamaryādātikrameṇa śaṅkāpiśācī labdhaprasarā na kvacinnāstīti nāyaṃ kvacit pravarteta | sarvatraiva kasyacidanarthasya kathañcicchaṅkāspadatvāt | anarthaśaṅkāyāśca prekṣāvatāṃ nivṛttyaṅgatvāt | antataḥ snigdhānnapānopayoge'pi maraṇadarśanāt | tasmāt prāmāṇikalokayātrāmanupālayatā yathādarśanamevaśaṅkanīyam | na tvadṛṣṭapūrvamapi | viśeṣasmṛtyapekṣa eva hi saṃśayo nāsmṛterbhavati | na ca smṛtirananubhūtacare bhavitumarhati | taduktaṃ mīmāṃsāvārtikakṛtā -
nāśaṅkā niḥpramāṇikā iti |
tasmādupādhiṃ prayatnenānviṣyanto'nupalabhamānā nāstītyavagamya svābhāvikatvaṃ saṃbandhasya niścinumaḥ |
syādetat | anyasyānyena sahākāraṇena cet svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandho bhavet, sarvaṃ sarveṇa svabhāvataḥ saṃbadhyeta | sarvaṃ sarvasmād gamyeta | athānyasya cedanyat kāryaṃ kasmāt sarvaṃ sarvasmānna bhavati, anyatvāviśeṣāt | tataśca sa evātiprasaṅgaḥ | yadyucyeta na bhāvasvabhāvāḥ paryanuyojyāḥ, tasmādanyatvāviśeṣe'pi kiñcideva kāraṇaṃ kāryaṃ ca kiñciditi | nanveṣa svabhāvānāmanuyogo bhinnānāmakāryakāraṇabhūtānāmapi svabhāvapratibandhe tulya eva | tasmād yatkiñcidetadapi | kena punaḥ pramāṇenaiṣa svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandho gṛhyate | pratyakṣasaṃbandhiṣu pratyakṣeṇa | tathā hi abhijāatamaṇibhedatattvavad bhūyodarśanajanitasaṃskārasahāyamindriyameva dhūmādīnāṃ vahnyādibhiḥ svābhāvikāsaṃbandhagrāhīti yuktamutpaśyāmaḥ | evaṃ mānāntaraviditasaṃbandheṣu mānāntarāṇyeva yathāsvaṃ bhūyodarśanasahāyāni svābhāvikasaṃbandhagrahaṇe pramāṇānyunnetavyāni | svabhāvataśca pratibaddhā hetavaḥ svasādhyena yadi sādhyamantareṇa bhaveyuḥ, svabhāvādeva pracyaveranniti tarkasahāyā nirastasādhyavyatirekavṛttisandehā yatra dṛṣṭāstatra svasādhyamupasthāpayantyeveti ||
atrocyate | iha khalu bhede tadutpattireva vyāptiḥ | na cāsāvanyo vā svata evāvinābhāvalakṣaṇaḥ svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandho bhūyodarśanamātrataḥ sidhyati | tathā hi, kiṃ yatra bhūyodarśanapravṛttistatra niyatatvavyavasthā, yatra vā niyatatvamasti tatraiva bhūyodarśanapravṛttiḥ | prathamapakṣe ghaṭādapi kulaṭā, pārthivatvādapi lohalekhyatvaṃ sidhyet, bhūyodarśanasaṃbhave'pi niyatatvasaṃbhavāt |
vyabhicāradarśanānnaivamiti cet | kasya punarvyabhicāradarśanam yasya kasyacit śāstrakārasya, pratipatturvā | prathamapakṣe pratipattuḥ kimāyātaṃ yato nānumānamayaṃ kuryāt | anyathānyasya tadviṣayapratyakṣīkāreṇaiva so'pi kṛtārtha iti kimavaśyamanumānamanveṣate | na cāptavacanādavyabhicāradarśanādanumānam | āptasya niścetumaśakyatvādityanyatra prasādhanāt | śāstrakāraṃ ca pṛṣṭvā dṛṣṭasaṃbandho'pi dhṛmādagnimanumāsyata ityalaukikam | pratipattustu nāvaśyaṃ sannapi vyabhicāro gocarībhavati | na hi yatra vyabhicārastatraiva tāvati kāle deśe vāvaśyaṃ pratītimavatarati | apratīyamānaśca nāstyeveti na niyamaḥ | satyapi vyabhicāre darśanasāmagrayabhāvāt tasmādarśanāt | aticirakālavyavadhāne'pi darśanāt brāhmaṇyādivyabhicāravat ||
ghaṭapārthivādau pratipattaiva pravṛttaḥ | tadaiva krameṇa vā vyabhicāraṃ paśyediti cet | yadi tāvadasau kathañcit pravartate, pravṛtto'pi vā sāmagryabhāvāvyabhicāraṃ na paśyet | vajraṃ vā lohena vyāpārayet | vyaktaṃ tasya tāvat tadapyamānamāpannamiti mahat pāṇḍityam | tasmād yadi vyabhicārādarśanādanumānaṃ tadādṛṣṭavyabhicārasya pratipatturghaṭapārthivatvādapyasti | tathā adarśanamātreṇa vyabhicārābhāvo na sidhyati, yogyānupalabdhereva sarvatrābhāvasādhane'dhikārāt | tato bahulaṃ sahacāramātreṇa na vyabhicārī na vāvyabhicārī niścita iti śaṅkāvakāśaḥ ||
yadyevamadṛṣṭavyabhicārādapi dhūmādanumānaṃ mā bhūt | na | īdṛśasya śaṅkāvakāśasya sarvatra tadutpattirahite saṃbhavāditi | atha kadācit pratipattā pravṛtto vyabhicāraṃ paśyati | na tarhi yatra bhūyodarśanam, tatra niyatatvasthitiḥ | tatra kuto dhūme pratibandhasiddhiḥ | bhūyodarśanasyānyatra niyatatvopasthāpakatvakṣatau malinapauruṣatvena sarvatrānāśvāsāt ||
yadyevaṃ dvicandrādau cakṣurādipratyakṣaṃ malinapauruṣamupalabdhamiti ghaṭādikamapi nopasthāpayediti cet | na | indriyaviṣayakāryaṃ hi pratyakṣam | na dvicandrādijñānamīdṛśamarthakāryatvābhāvāt | tato bhinnalakṣaṇasya pratyakṣābhāsattve'pi ghaṭajñānaṃ pratyakṣameva | na caivaṃ dhūmādau pārthivatvādau ca vyāptigrāhakasya bhūyodarśanasya lakṣaṇabhedo yenaikatrāśvāsaḥ syāt ||
ete evārthakāryatvākāryatve lakṣaṇabheda iti cet | na | ghaṭādijñānasya hyarthakāryatvavivāde pramāṇāntarato'rthakriyālābhato vā niścayaḥ , na pratijñāmātreṇa | na cātra dhūmasyāgnisahacāraḥ sadātano'yamatha suhṛddvayasyeva sātyayo gṛhīta iti saṃśaye sadātanasahacāraprasādhakapramāṇāntarasaṅgatirasti, tatkāryaṃ vā kiñcidupalabhyate | tarhi bādhyamānatvābādhyamānatvalakṣaṇo lakṣaṇabhedo bhaviṣyatītyapi na vaktavyam, avyabhicāragrāhakasya bhūyodarśanasya bādhitatvāsiddheḥ | abādhamātraṃ hi prasajyapratiṣedho'pramāṇam | pramāṇāntarasaṅgatirarthakriyālābho vā paryudāsaścāsiddha iti na tāvat prathamaḥ pakṣaḥ | nāpi dvitīyaḥ | niyatatvābhāve'pi pārthivatvādau bhūyodarśanasaṃbhavāditi na bhūyodarśanagamyā vyāptiḥ ||
trilocanacodye'pi brūmaḥ | yadi pratyakṣaṃ svalakṣaṇaviṣayamityayogavyavacchedenocyate tadā siddhasādhanam | anyayogavyavacchedastvasiddhaḥ, pratyakṣānumānādisarvajñānānāṃ grāhyāvaseyabhedena viṣayadvaividhyānatikramāt | yadvi yatra jñāne pratibhāsate tad grāhyam | yatra tu tat pravartate tadadhyavaseyat | tatra pratyakṣasya svalakṣaṇaṃ grāhyam | adhyavaseyaṃ tu sāmānyam, atadrūpaparāvṛttasvalakṣaṇamātrātmakam | anumānasya tu viparyayaḥ | tataśca sāṃvyavahārikapramāṇāpekṣayā rūparasagandhasparśasamudāyātmakasya ghaṭasya rūpabhedamātragrahaṇe'pi pratyakṣataḥ samudāyasiddhivyavasthā | tathaikasyātadrūpaparāvṛttasya grahaṇe'pi sādhyasādhanasāmānyayoratadrūpaparāvṛttavastumātrātmanorayogavyavacchedena viṣayabhūtayorvyāptigraho yukta eva | ata eva vikalpānāmavastveva viṣayaḥ, vastu tu teṣāṃ parokṣamevetyapi durjñānam, sarvavikalpānāmadhyavaseyāpekṣayā vastuviṣayatvāt | śāstre'pi tathaiva pratipādanāt | na ca manasā tajjātīyānāṃ vyāptigrahaḥ śakyaḥ, manaso bahirasvātantryāt | anyathā andhabadhirādyabhāvaprasaṅgāt | na ca vahnivyabhicāre dhūma upādhirahitaṃ āṃbandhamatikrāmediti vaktumucitam, svakapolakalpitasvābhāvikasaṃbandhasya yācitakamaṇḍanatvāditi ||
yadapi vācaspatijalpitam, yo yatropādhinā niyatastatra tasya svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandhaḥ | yathā dahane dhūmasya | tadupādherdṛśyasyānupalabhyamānatvāt kvacid vyabhicārasyādarśanādityatredaṃ vicāryate | yasyādarśanataḥ svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandho vyavasthāpanīyaḥ, sa khalu dhūmasvarūpādarthāntaramupādhirvaktavyo yathā dahanādindhanam | arthāntaraṃ ca kiñcid dṛśyamadṛśyaṃ ca kiñcit, na tu sarvameva dṛśyatāniyatam | tataśca dhūmasyāpi hutāśane syādupādhiḥ, na copalabhyate ityupādhimātrānupalabdhiranaikāntikī | tatkathamadarśanamātrānnāstyevopādhiḥ, yataḥ svābhāvikasaṃbandhasiddhiḥsyāt | dṛśyopādhyabhāvasādhane tu siddhasādhanam | paramadṛśyopādhiśaṅkāsaṃbhave svābhāvikatvapratirodhastadavastha eva | kvacid vyabhicārādarśanādityasaṃbaddhameva, upādhivat vyabhicārasyāpyadarśanamātrādabhāvāsiddheḥ | vyabhicārasya sarvadeśakālayoḥ saṃbhave'pi dṛśyatve'pi sarvadā sarvatra sarveṇa sāmagryabhāvādapi niścetumaśakyatvāt | brāhmaṇyādivyabhicāravadevāhatyādarśane'pi deśakālāntare taddarśanasya niṣeddhumaśakyatvāt |
nanu yadi dhūmasyāpekṣaṇīyamarthāntaramupādhiḥ syāt kathaṃ dhūma ityeva pāvakasattāniyama iti cet | nanvidameva cintyate kiṃ dhūme satyavaśyamagniḥ saṃbhavīna veti | kadācidarthāntaramupādhimapekṣya dhūmo'pi syānnāgniriti kimatra niṣṭabdhaṃ kāraṇam | tasmāt pāvakaparādhīnodayo dhūmaḥ pariniṣṭhitaḥ kathaṃ tadabhāve bhāvaṃ svīkuryādityeva sādhu |
atha vyaktau jātau vā vahnivyabhicāro na dṛṣṭaḥ, kathaṃ tatra śaṅkayata iti cet | tat kiṃ sthāṇuvyaktau jātau vā puruṣatvaṃ dṛṣṭaṃ yena sthāṇau śaṅkayate | anyatrordhvatāliṅgite dṛṣṭamiti cet | ihāpyanyatra bhūyaḥ sahacāriṇi pārthivatvādau dṛṣṭa eva vyabhicāraḥ | yatraiva tu yat saṃśayyate tatraiva tasya darśanamapekṣyata ityalaukikam | yadi dhūmavyaktau vyabhicāro dṛṣṭastadā dhūmasāmānyaṃ vyāptau bahirbhūtameva, kathaṃ saṃśayaḥ | atha jātau dṛṣṭastadāpi vyabhicāraniścaya eva, kathaṃ saṃśayaḥ | ato dhūmajātāvadṛśyamāno'pi vyabhicāra upādhirvā darśanāyogyatayā niṣeddhumaśakya iti saṃśayo durvāraprasaraḥ | sa cedānīmupādhervyabhicārasya vā saṃśayaḥ svābhāvikatvasaṃśayasvabhāvaḥ svābhāvikatvaniścayaṃ tāvadavaśyaṃ pratibadhnāti | tasmāt svābhāvikatvaniścayapratibandha evārthataḥ, niścayamantareṇa gamakasya svayamakiñcitkaratvāt | tadevamupādhyanupalabdhirvyabhicārasyānupalabdhirvā'naikāntikī na tayorabhāvaṃ sādhayati, yataḥ saṃbandhasya svābhāvikatvasiddhiḥ syāt | asiddhā ceyamupādhyanupalabdhiḥ | yathā dahano nendhanena vinā dhūmena saṃbadhyate tathā dhūmo'pi na tena vināgninā saṃbadhyata iti samānamupādhitvamindhanasyobhayatra |
atha siddhasyāgnerindhanasāhityena dhūmalābha ityupādhivyavasthā, asiddhasya tu dhūmasya tannimittātmalābhatayāvyabhicārāt svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandha iti vyavasthā pyata iti cet | evamapi saiva tadutpattirāyātā | saiva svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandhaḥ | na punaḥ pratijñāsiddhaḥ sahacāramātrātmakaḥ | kiṃ ca svābhāvikatvādavyabhicāraḥ sarvatra, sarvatrāvyabhicārācca svābhāvikatvamitītaretarāśrayatvamanivāryam | yasya tu sakṛttadutpattipratītireva sarvatrāvyabhicārapratītistasya nāyaṃ prasaṅgaḥ |
yadyevaṃ mamāpi bhūyodarśanādavyabhicārasiddhiriti cet | na | bhūya ityapariniṣṭhitavārasaṃkhyatvāt kiyatā darśanena lakṣaṇānusārī nirvṛtimāsādayet | asmākaṃ tu pratyakṣānupalabdhau parigaṇitasaṃkhyāveva | yadāhuḥ
prāgadṛṣṭau kramāt paśyan vetti hetuphalasthitim |
dṛṣṭau vā kramaśo'paśyannanyathā tvanavasthi(ti) riti ||
yattvanupalabhyamānasyāpi kalpanānupapatteriti vilapitam, tadvālasyāpyasāmpratam | anupalabhyamāne'rthe ca kalpanāvakāśāt | na hi dṛśyamāno ghaṭaḥ kalpita ucyate | na ca sandihyamāna upādhiḥ saṃbandhasya svābhāvikatvaṃ pratibadhnātīti yuktam, sādhakabādhakābhāva eva saṃśayasya nyāyaprāptatvāt | ata eva na sarvatra śaṅkāpiśācāvakāśaḥ | tatkathaṃ nāyaṃ pravartetaṃ |
pramāṇaviṣaye'pi śaṅkā kartuṃ śakyata iti cet | na | svīkṛtapramāṇasya hi niścayaphalatvāt pramāṇasyāvipratipannapramāṇaviṣaye niścayasvīkāranāntarīyaka eva tatsvīkāraḥ | na ca śaṅketyeva na pravṛttiḥ, arthasaṃśayenāpi pravṛtteranivāryatvāt snigdhānnapānopayogavat | tadupayoge kadācinmaraṇadarśane'pi koṭiśo jīvitadarśanāt | na ca prāmāṇikalolayātrākṣatiḥ, prāmāṇikaireva pramāṇābhāve saṃśayasya vihitatvāt | yathādarśanamāśaṅkanīyamityādyapi siddhasādhanam, anyatra dṛṣṭasyaivopādhervyabhicārasya vā śaṅkitatvāt | kiṃ ca bādhakādarśane'pi sādhakabhāvādapi śaṅkā syādeva |
yadapi syādetaditi valgitaṃ tadapi niḥsāram | pramāṇasiddhe hi rūpe svābhāvāvalambanam | natu svabhāvāvalambanenaiva vastusvarūpavyavasthā | tadyadi niyataviṣayānvayavyatirekagrāhakapratyakṣānupalambhapramāṇasiddhe hetuphalabhāve svabhāvavādastat kimāyātaṃ svābhāvikasaṃbandhe | yatra tadutpattisāmagrīṃ hṛdayena dūrīkṛtyānyataḥ sahacaritadvayād viśeṣaṃṇa pratītau pratyupāya eva devīyān | tatsāmagryapekṣaṇe ca tadutpattireva sā | kimāhopuruṣikayā nāmāntarakaraṇena | kena punaḥ pramāṇena eṣa svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandho gṛhyata ityādistadgrahaṇaprakāraḥ pūrvameva nirākṛtaḥ | tathā svābhāvikatvāsiddhau svabhāvataśca pratibaddhā hetava ityādyupasaṃhāropi manorājyamātram | tasmādarthāntare gamye kāryahetustadbhāvasiddhiśca pratyakṣānupalambhāditi sthitam | tadevaṃ svābhāvikavādena hṛdayānulepanamaśucineva parihāryaṃ dūrata iti |
