oṃ namastārāyai |

sūktaratnāśrayatvena jitaratnākarādidam |

gurorvāgambudheḥ smartuṃ kiñcidākṛṣya likhyate ||

rītiḥ sudhānidhiriyaṃ sattame madhyavartini |

vidveṣiṇi viṣajvālā kiñcijjñe tu na kiñcina ||



ihaite naiyāyikādayo vivādapadasya kṣitidharādeḥ svarūpopādānopakaraṇasaṃpradānaprayojanavibhāgapravīṇaṃ sarvajñatādiguṇaviśiṣṭaṃ puruṣaviśeṣamicchanti | yadāhuḥ



eko vibhuḥ sarvavidekabuddhi -

samāśrayaḥ śāśvata īśvarākhyaḥ |

pramāṇamiṣṭo jagato vidhātā

svargāpavargārthibhirarthanīyaḥ || iti ||



sa ca kathaṃ sidhyatīti paryanuyuktāḥ sādhanamidamācakṣate |

vivādādhyāsitaṃ buddhimaddhetukam |

kāryatvāt |

yat kāryaṃ tadbuddhimaddhetukam | yathā ghaṭaḥ |

kāryaṃ cedam |

tasmād buddhimaddhetukamiti |



hetoḥ parokṣārthapratipādakatvamanubhūteṣu hetvābhāseṣu na śakyamāvedayitum | hetvābhāsāśca pañca | yathoktam



savyabhicāraviruddhaprakaraṇasamasādhyasamātītakālā iti |



tatra na tāvadayaṃ sādhyasamo hetuḥ | asiddho hi sādhyasamaḥ kathyate | sa ca saṃkṣepato vibhajyamāno dvidhā vyavatiṣṭhate | āśrayāsiddhatvād vā'siddho yathā surabhi gaganāravindamaravindatvāditi| satyapi cāśraye pramāṇena saṃbandhāsiddherasiddho yathā anityaḥ śabdaḥ sāvayavatvāditi | na cābhyāṃ prakārābhyāṃ prastutasya hetorasiddhirasti | kṣmāruhādau dharmiṇi pramāṇasamadhigate kāryatvasya sādhanasya pramāṇapratītatvāt | cirotpannaparvatādau ca dharmiṇi kāryatvaṃ sāvayavatvena hetunā boddhavyam | tad yathā



vivādapadaṃ kāryam |

sāvayavatvāt |

yatsāvayavaṃ tat kāryam | yathā vastram |

tathā cedam |

tasmāt kāryamiti |



nanu sāvayavatvena hetunā dravyāṇāmeva kāryatvaṃ sidhyati | na tu tatsamavetānāṃ guṇakarmādīnām | teṣāmavayavasaṃbandhābhāvāditi cet | satyam | teṣāṃ kāryaguṇāditvena hetvantareṇa kāryatvamadhigantavyam | tathā hi



janmabhājo vivādādhyāsitanityetarasamavāyino guṇādayaḥ |

kāryaguṇāditvāt |

yo yaḥ kāryaguṇādiḥ sa sarvastathā, yathā ghaṭādirūpādiḥ |

tathā caite |

tasmājjanmabhājaḥ | iti |



kāryatvaṃ ca na svakāraṇasamavāyaḥ, sāmānyaviśeṣo vā boddhavyaḥ, yenāsya pradhvaṃsāvyāpakatvād bhāgāsiddhatā syāt, kiṃ tu kāraṇādhīnasvarūpamātram | tacca śabdādiṣviva pradhvaṃsādāvapi pratyakṣeṇādhigatamiti na tāvadayamasiddho hetuḥ | nāpi viruddhaḥ | tathā hi yo vipakṣa eva vartate sa khalu sādhyaviparyayavyāpteḥ sādhyaviruddhaṃ sādhayan viruddho'bhidhīyate | yathā nityaḥ śabdaḥ kṛtakatvāditi | na cāyaṃ tathā, prasiddhakartṛkeṣu ghaṭādiṣu sapakṣeṣu sadbhāvadarśanāt |



nanu buddhimatpūrvakatve sādhye siddhasādhanam | abhimataṃ hi pareṣāmapi karmajatvaṃ kāryajātasya, karmaṇaśca cetanātmakatvāt, cetanāhetukatvādvā | taddhetukatvaṃ ca jagataḥ | sarvajñapūrvakatve tu sādhye vyāptiḥ svapne'pi nopalabddhā | dṛṣṭāntaśca sādhyahīnaḥ, kulālādīnāmasarvajñatvāt | viruddhatā ca hetorasarvajñapūrvakatvenaiva kumbhādau kāryatvasya vyāpterupalabdheḥ | na copalabdhimatpūrvakatvamātraṃ sādhanaviṣayaḥ, tadviśeṣasya tu sarvajñapūrvakatvasyātadviṣayasyāpi tataḥ siddhiriti sāmpratam | tathā hi yadyasau viśeṣo na sādhanaviṣayaḥ kathamatastatsiddhiḥ, siddhaṃ vā kathamaviṣayaḥ, viṣayaścet kathamananvayadoṣaṃ na spṛśediti cet |



ucyate | sāmānyamātravyāptāvapi antarbhāvitaviśeṣasya sāmānyasya pakṣadharmatāvaśena sādhyadharmiṇyanumānāt viśeṣaviṣayamanumānaṃ bhavatyeva | itarathā sarvānumānocchedaprasaṅgāt | tathā hi vahnayanumānamapi na sāmānyamātraviṣayam, tasya prāgeva siddhatvāt | nāpi tadviśiṣṭagirigocaram vahnitvasāmānyasya tatsambandhābhāvena tadviśeṣaṇatvānupapatteḥ | itarathā gotvasamavāyādiva gāvaḥ śābaleyādayaḥ parvato'pi vahnitvasamavāyād vahniḥ prasajyeta | astyeva girervahnitvena saṃyuktasamavāyaḥ saṃbandha iti cet | tarhi nāpratipadya parvatasaṃyuktaṃ vahniviśeṣamasau śakyapratipattiriti vahniviśeṣasyāpyananumānam | tathā cānanvayadoṣaprasaṅgaḥ | indriyānumāne'pyayameva nyāyo draṣṭavyaḥ, yathendriyalakṣaṇakaraṇaviśeṣasiddhiḥ | tathā hi tatrāpi nendriyakaraṇikā kācit kriyopalabdhā | na khalu cchidādyāḥ kriyā indriyasādhanā, vraścanādīnāmanindriyatvāt | na ca vraścanādisādhanā saṃbhavati rūpādiparicchittilakṣaṇā kriyā | tasmād yathā kriyātvasāmānyasya karaṇamātrādhīnatvavyāptatve pakṣadharmatāvaśādindriyalakṣaṇakaraṇaviśeṣasiddhistathehāpi satyapi kāryatvasyopādānopakaraṇasaṃpradānaprayojanajñakartṛmātravyāptatve'pi vivādādhyāsiteṣu pakṣadharmatāvaśādupādānādyabhijñasāmānyasyākṣiptaviśeṣasyaiva siddhiḥ | anyathā sāmānyasyāpi vyāpakābhimatasya na siddhiḥ syāt, nirviśeṣasyāsaṃbhavadviśeṣasya vā tasyānupapatteḥ | asarvajñasya cātrādṛṣṭādibhedavijñānarahitasyādhiṣṭhātṛbhāvāsaṃbhavāt sarvajñātmaka eva viśeṣo balādāpatati |



nanūpādānādyabhijñakartṛ mātreṇevāsarvajñatvadehitvādibhirapi vyāptiraśakyaparihārā, vyabhicārādarśanasya samānatvāditi cet | na sarvajñatvāsarvajñatvayordehitvādehitvayorvā kāryotpattāvanupayogāt | na hi sārvajñyaṃ kartṛṇāṃ yogyatāmupasthāpayati, asarvajñebhyaḥ kumbhakārādibhyaḥ kumbhādīnāmaprasavaprasaṅgāt | nāpyasārvajñyaṃ kumbhakārādeva keyūrādīnāmapyutpattiprasaṅgāt | tathā na dehitvaṃ kāryotpattāvupayogi kumbhakārādeva keyūrādīnāmutpattiprasaṅgāt | nādehitvaṃ kumbhakārād ghaṭādīnāmanutpādaprasaṅgāt | tataśvopādānādyabhijñapuruṣapūrvakatvameva kāryatvasya vyāpakam | tadeva ca buddhimatpuruṣapūrvakatvaśabdavācyam | tena yadyapi buddhimatpūrvakatvamātraṃ vyāptiviṣayastathāpi tadviśeṣasya sarvajñatvasya pakṣadharmatābalāt pratilambha iti viśeṣaviṣayamanumānam | na coktadoṣaprasaṅgaḥ, tasya sādhyadṛṣdāntayordharmavikalpādutkarṣāpakarṣalakṣaṇaparyanuyogasya sarvānumānasādhāraṇyenānumānamātraprāmāṇyapratikṣepahetutvāt |



etena yaduktaṃ kaṇikāyāṃ yadi kulālādīnāṃ katipayopakaraṇādijñānaṃ, na samastopakaraṇādijñatā, tarhi tenaiva nidarśanena īśvarasyāpi tadupakaraṇādimātrajñānam | tanmātrajñāne na sarvajñatāsiddhiḥ | katipayajño hi tathā sati syāt | na vā tanmātrajñānamapīśvarasya bālādivadityāha | vālonmattādīnāṃ svakāryaprayojanāparijñāne'pi nirabhiprāyāṇāṃ tatra tatra pravṛttidarśanāt | na ca kulālādayo nidarśanam na vālādaya ityatra niyamaheturastīti tannirastam ||



īśvarasya hi katipayātīndriyopakaraṇādijñāne tatkāraṇasya sarvatra samānatvādaśeṣopakaraṇādijñatāyā durvāratvāt | kāraṇaṃ ca tajjñāne sattāmantareṇa nānyat, dharmādharmādīnāṃ laukikapratyāsattihetūnāṃ tatrāsaṃbhavāt | kāraṇābhede ca kāryābhedaḥ | anyathā katipayātīndriyajñānamapi na syāt | yathā hi kulālādistulyadarśanasāmagrīkeṣu nākiñcijjñāḥ tathātīndriyopakaraṇādiṣvapīśvaraḥ , sāmarthyasyāviśeṣāt | na ca bālonmattādinidarśanena katipayopakaraṇajñatāniṣedho yuktaḥ, bījadṛṣṭāntena buddhimanmātrasyāpi niṣedhābhidhānaprasaṅgāt | tasmād yathopādānādyabhijñasyāpi saṃbhavād bījādibhirna vyabhicārābhidhānam, tathā bālonmattādibhirapīti kulālādīnāmeva dṛṣṭāntatā yuktimatī, upādānādyabhijñabuddhivanmātrakāryatvayoḥ sādhyasādhanayostatra prasiddhatvāt | tathā jñānavadīśvarasya cikīrṣāprayatnaunityāvityatrāpi |



yadabhihitam - nityau cet kimīśvarasya jñānena cikīrṣāprayatnopayoginā, tayornityatvāt, svotpādopayogānapekṣaṇādityādi | tadapyasāram | ajñātakartṛtvānupapatteḥ | jñānaṃ hi yatra cikīrṣāprayatnāvanityau tatra tāvupasthāpayadupakaraṇādikamupadarśayati | yatra tu tau nityau tatropakaraṇādikamupadarśayadapi saphalam | tasmāt satyapi cikīrṣāprayatnayornityatve saphalamīśvarajñānaṃ sākṣātkāryotpattāvanupayogyapi | ata eva ca so'yamīdṛśo viśeṣo vicārāsahaḥ kathaṃ pakṣadharmatābalādapi sādhyadharmiṇyupasaṃhriyata ityādirapi pralāpa eva | īśvarajñānasyāvyāhatau sarvajñatāviśeṣasya durvāratvāt |



yadabhihitam -prekṣāvatāṃ pravṛttiḥ prayojanavattayā vyāptā | na ceśvarasya prekṣāvato jagannirmāṇe prayojanamutpaśyāmaḥ, prāptanikhilaprāpaṇīyasya prāptavyābhāvāt | tadapi sāvadyam, tadabhiprāyasya durvodhatvāt, prayojanābhāvāsiddheḥ, vyāpakānupalabdheḥ, sandigdhatvāt | vicitrā hi puruṣamātrasya cetovṛttiḥ prāgeva viśvasya kartuḥ | prāptanikhilaprāpaṇīyasyāpi karūṇayāpi parārthapravṛttaḥ saṃbhāvyamānatvāt | na cāsya narakādinirmāṇapravṛttiḥ kāruṇikatāmupahanti, pratyuta pituḥ putragaṇḍapāṭanavṛttirivālpaduḥkhadānena prabhūtadāruṇaduḥkhāpanayanāt karuṇātiśayameva gamayati | prekṣāvatāmivāsyāpi niyatasthirapravṛttisiddheḥ prayojanānumitireva nyāyaprāptā ||



yaccedamudīritam-yadi hi sarvakāryāṇāmekaḥ kartā syāt tato'jñasya tattvānupapatteḥ sarvajñatā syāt | atha punarekaikaṃ kāryamekaikena kartrā janyata iti yo yajjanayati sa tatkāraṇamātrajña eva na tu sarvajña iti |



atrocyate | kāryaliṅgāviśeṣādekaḥ kartā saditi jñānāviśeṣāt sattaikatvavat | kutaścilliṅgādanumitasya vastuno nānātvasya liṅgāntarānumeyatvāt, nānātvamupapādayituṃ pramāṇāntaraṃ vaktavyam | yathātmanānātvamavasthāpayadbhiḥ sukhādi (bhirnānātva) vyavasthāpanamucyate | na ceha karturanekatvādhigame pramāṇāntaramasti | ekatve tu na pramāṇāntaramanveṣṭavyam, ekasya karturabhāve bahūnāṃ vyāhatamanasāṃ svātantreṇa parasparavirodhena mithaḥ svānukūlābhiprāyānavabodhena yugapatkāryānutpatiḥ, utpannasya vā vilopādiprasaṅgaḥ syāditi | ekatve tu siddhe sarvajñatāsiddhiravirodhinī | na ceścarasya sakalakṣetrajñasamavāyidharmādharmajñānakāraṇābhāvena tadajñānam, tatsamavetānāṃ jñānacikīrṣāprayatnānāṃ nityatvāt | na ca buddhitannityatvayoḥ kaścidvirodhaḥ | na ca buddheranityatāyāstatra tatropalabdherīśvarabuddherapi tathātvaṃ yuktam, rūpādīnāmapyanityānāṃ tatra tatropalabdhestoyādiparamāṇusamavetānāmapi rūpādīnāmanityatvaprasaṅgāt | parapuruṣasamavetadharmādharmādhiṣṭhānamapyasya yuktameva, saṃyuktasaṃyogisamavāyasya sambandhasya sadbhāvāt | saṃyuktāḥ khalvīśvareṇa paramāṇavaḥ, taiśca kṣetrajñāḥ, tatsamavetau ca dharmādharmāviti ||



tadevaṃ kaṇikāyāṃ vācaspaterīśvaradūṣaṇaṃ yathāsāramutthāpya vyudastamasmābhiḥ | aparaṃ ca busaprāyamanabhyupagamaprasiddhasiddhāntagrastamiha granthavistarabhayānna likhitam | tadevamabhimatasyaiva sarvajñatālakṣaṇasya viśeṣasya siddhernaiṣa viśeṣaviruddho hetuḥ | nāpi karmabhiḥ siddhasādhanamiti sthitam ||



na cānaikāntikaḥ | sa hi bhavannasādhāraṇo vā syāt, yathā nityā pṛthvī gandhavatvāditi; anupasaṃhāryo vā, yathā sarvaṃ nityaṃ prameyatvāditi; sādhāraṇo vā yathā nityaḥ śabdaḥ, asparśavattvāditi |



tatra na tāvadādimau pakṣau, sapakṣasadbhāvadarśanena pratikṣiptatvāt | nāpyantimaḥ, adhigatakartṛnivṛttervyomādervipakṣād vyāvṛtterupalabdheḥ |



nanu puruṣavyāpāramantareṇa tṛṇādīnudayamānānavalokayan lokaḥ kāryamātraṃ puruṣapūrvakamiti vyāptimeva na pratipadyata iti cet | evaṃ tarhi prasiddhānumānasthitirapi dattajalāñjaliḥ | tatrāpi hi vyāptipratītikāla eva vyāghrādiparyākulātidurgapradeśe vahnivyāpāramantareṇa dhūmaṃ puruṣavyāpāraṃ vinā pūrvaṃ siddhaṃ ghaṭaṃ vā vilokayan loko dhūmamātraṃ vahnipūrvakaṃ ghaṭamātraṃ vā puruṣapūervakamiti vyāptimeva na pratipadyata iti vaktuṃ śakyatvāt |



tatra vahnipuruṣayordeśakālaviprakṛṣṭatvādapratikṣepa iti cet | yadyevaṃ tṛṇādāvapi puruṣasya svabhāvaviprakṛṣṭatvādapratikṣepa iti sarvaṃ samānamanyatrābhiniveśāt | puruṣavyāpārapūrvakatā tāvanna pratīyate tṛṇādīnām | sā ca puruṣasyādṛśyatvādasattvād vā na pratīyatām, kimanena vicāritena | sarvathā kiñcitkāryamapūrvapuruṣapūrvakamapaśyanna vyāptiṃ kāryamātrasya puruṣeṇa kaścit cetanāvānavagacchatīti cet | yadyevaṃ vahnimātrapūrvakatā tāvanna pratīyate dhūmasya, puruṣamātrapūrvakatā ca ghaṭasya | sā ca vahnerdeśaviprakṛṣṭatvādasattvād vā puruṣasya kālaviprakṛṣṭatvādasattvād vā na pratīyatām, kimanena vicāritena | sarvathā dhūmamātraṃ vahnivyāpārapūrvakamapaśyan ghaṭamātraṃ vā puruṣapūrvakamapaśyannavyāptimeva dhūmasya vahnimātreṇa ghaṭasya puruṣamātreṇa vā kaściccetanāvānadhigacchatītyapyucyamānaṃ na vaktraṃ vakrīkaroti | tat kimanena prasiddhānumānāpalāpinā jātyuttareṇa ||



syādetat | na sapakṣāsapakṣayordarśanādarśanamātreṇāvyabhicāraniścayaḥ, atadātmano'tadutpatteścāvyabhicāraniyamābhāvāt | tadidaṃ kāryatvaṃ sandigdhavipakṣavyāvṛttikatvenāsādhanam |



atrocyate | nāsti vipakṣāddhetorvyāvṛttisandehaḥ, dhūmānalayoriva kāryabuddhimatorupalambhānupalambhasādhanasya kāryakāraṇabhāvasya siddhatvāt |



kāryaviśeṣasyaiva tadutpādasiddhirna kāryasāmānyasya, yathā dhūmādivartino vastutvādernānalādijanyatvaniścaya iti cet | na | viśeṣahetvabhāvāt | upalambhānupalambhayostadutpattisādhanatveneṣṭayoraviśeṣāt kāryaviśeṣasyeva kāryasāmānyasya prabodhāśrayāyattatāsiddheḥ | yathā hi kāryaṃ vastrādyupādānavad dṛṣṭam, kāryāntaramapyadṛṣṭopādānamupādānavat kāryatvādyupasthāpyate tathā tadeva kāryaṃ vastrādi dṛṣṭakartṛkamityadṛṣṭakartṛkamapi kāryatvāt kartṛmadvyavasthāpyate | upādānasyeva karturapikāryeṇānukṛtānvayavyatirekatvāt | tanmātranibandhanatvācca sarvatra kāryakāraṇavyavahārayoḥ | tasmād yathā kāryaṃ ca syānnirupādānaṃ ceti na śakyamāśaṅkitum, kāryamātrasyopādānamātrādutpādasiddheḥ tathā kāryaṃ ca bhavedakartṛkaṃ ceti nāśaṅkanīyam, kāryamātrasya kartṛmātrādutpādasiddheraviśeṣāt ||



nanu brūyā nāma kiñcit | tathāpi na kāryamātrād buddhimadanumānam, api tu kāryaviśeṣādeva | yaddarśanādakriyādarśino'pi kṛtabuddhiḥ syāt | na cānapekṣitatattvānugamācchabdamātrasāmyāt sādhyasiddhiryuktā | gośabdavācyatāmātreṇa vāgādīnāṃ viṣāṇitvānumitiprasaṅgāditi cet | tadetat khasthottaramanuttarārham, kāryasāmānyasyaiva vyāptiprasādhanāt | api ca kā punariyaṃ kṛtabuddhiḥ, kimapekṣitaparavyāpārāvasāyo'tha puruṣakṛtametaditi pauruṣeyatvaniścaya iti |



yadyādyaḥ pakṣaḥ sa kathaṃ kṣityādiṣu nāsti, kāraṇavyāpārātmalābhalākṣaṇasya kāryatvasya kumbhādivat kṣityādiṣvaviśeṣāt | atha puruṣeṇa kṛtamiti pauruṣeyatvaniścayaḥ kṛtabuddhirabhimatā, tadāpi tādṛśī kṛtabuddhiḥ kasya nāstīti vaktavyam | kiṃ kāryatvāditi hetoravinābhāvavedina āhosvit tadviparītasya | nādyaḥ pakṣaḥ | avinābhāvavedinaḥ sādhyāpratipatterayogāt | atha tadviparītasya sādhyabuddhirna bhavatīti kṛtabuddhihetukatvamavanitanumahīruhādiṣu nāstīti buddhimato'numānaṃ pratikṣipyate |



nanvevaṃ sati sarvānumānoccheda syāt | sarvahetūnāmagṛhītāvinābhāvaṃ prati agamakatvāt | tasmānna kṛtabuddhihetutvaṃ viśeṣaḥ | bhavatu vā kaścidanirūpitarūpo viśeṣastathāpi kimanena | kāryamātrasyaiva dhūmamātrasyeva vyāptipratīteḥ | na ca kāryatvena hetunā saha mṛddhikārasya samakakṣatā | tasya svasādhyena dṛśyakumbhakāreṇa saha vyabhicārasya śataśo darśanāt | kāryatvasya tu dṛśyādṛśyasādhāraṇena buddhimanmātreṇa tadyogāditi nāyamanaikāntikaḥ |



nāpi prakaraṇasamaḥ, apratipakṣatvāt | na hyasya pratipakṣopasthāpakaṃ dharmāntaramasti | yathā nityaḥ śabdo vastutve satyanupalabhyamānanityadharmatvādityasya, anityaḥ śabdo vastutve satyanupalabhyamānanityadharmatvāditi pratipakṣakṛtaṃ dharmāntaramasti | na cedaṃ bādhakaṃ vaktavyam | neśvarakartṛkaṃ jagat | vastutvasattvādityādi | īśvarakartṛkatvasya vastutvāditi virodhābhāvāt | iti gāyaṃ prakaraṇasamo'pi |



na ca kālātyayāpadiṣṭaḥ pratyakṣānumānāgamairbādhitaviṣayasya tathābhāvāt | asya ca tairavirodhāt | tatra pratyakṣaviruddhaḥ, anuṣṇastejo'vayavī kṛtakatvāt | anumānaviruddhaḥ, sāvayavāḥ paramāṇavo mūrtatvāt | āgamaviruddhaḥ, śuci na(ra) śiraḥ kapālaṃ prāṇyaṅgatvāditi | tatra na tāvadayaṃ pratyakṣaviruddhaḥ, sādhyaviparyayasya pratyakṣāviṣayatvāt | nāpyanumānaviruddhaḥ, dharmigrāhiṇānumānenābādhitaviṣayatvāt | na cāgamaviruddhaḥ, āgamena sādhyaviparya(ya) syāparicchedāt | saugatādyāgamairviparītaparicchedāditi cet | na, teṣāṃ kṣaṇikatvādyarthavisaṃvādopalambhena prāmāṇyābhāvāt | vedāgamo'pi bādhakatvena nāśaṅkanīyaḥ,



sahasraśīrṣā puruṣaḥ



ityādinā tatra kartureva pratipādanāt | tathābhūtapuruṣātiśayapūrvakatvābhāve satyaprāmāṇyācceti nāyamatikrāntakālo hetuḥ | tadevamapanītahetvābhāsavibhramādataḥ sādhanādupādānādyabhijño buddhimānabhimataḥ kartā sidhyati | sa eva bhagavānasmākamīśvara iti sthitam ||

asyāyamarthaḥ | jagaditi dharmī | prabodhāśrayāyattaprasavamiti sādhyam | abhilāṣetyādi anutpattirūpārūpaparyantena dharmiviśeṣaṇenākāśādinityavargaparihāraḥ | asmadādivinirmitetaradityanenāpi dharmiviśeṣaṇena prasiddhakartṛkaghaṭādiparihāraḥ | abhilāṣaśca prītiśca paramāṇumūrtiśca | āsāmadhāraḥ ākāśa ātmā paramāṇuḥ | paratvāparatvānumeyau dikkālau | sāmānyādayastu yathāprasiddhā grahītavyāḥ |



tathā narasiṃhaḥ prāha -



vijñānādhārādhīnajanma(a) janmāvacchinnātmobhayavādyavivādāspadapuruṣapūrvakavyatireki bhāvānubhāvi prameyajātam |

yad yadākhyātasādhanasambandhi tattaduktasādhyadharmādhikaraṇam | yathā vāsaḥ |

asyāyamarthaḥ | prameyajātaṃ dharmi | vijñānādhārādhīnajanmeti sādhyam | ajanmāvacchinnātmeti dharmiviśeṣaṇam | etenākāśādinityavargaparihāraḥ | ubhayavādyavivādāspadapuruṣapūrvakavyatirekītyanenāpi prasiddhakartṛkaghaṭādiparihāraḥ | bhāvānubhāvīti vasturūpam | etena pradhvaṃsādiparihāraḥ | yad yadākhyātasādhanasaṃbandhīti vyāptivacanaṃ yaddharmirūpaṃ kathitasādhanayogītyarthaḥ |

sarvaṃ kāryaṃ prabodhavaddhetukam |

yannityaṃ dṛṣṭamabodhavaddhetukaṃ tasyākāśādestathotpattirnāstīti dṛṣṭam |

vivādāspadībhūtaṃ dvitvamātmotpattau kasyacidekaikaviṣayāṃ buddhimapekṣate |

dvitvasaṃkhyātvāt |

yad yad dvitvaṃ tat tathā | yathā dve dravye |

tathā cedaṃ dvayaṇukagataṃ dvitvam |

tasmāttatheti |

yasya cātra buddhirapekṣyate sa bhagavānīśvaraḥ ||

tathā ca vācaspatiḥ pramāṇayati -

vivādāṣyāsitatanutarugirisāgarādayaḥ upādānādyabhijñakartṛkāḥ |

kāryatvāt |

yadyat kāryaṃ tattadupādānādyabhijñakartṛkam | yathā prāsādādi |

tathā va vivādādhyāsitāstanvādayaḥ |

tasmāttatheti |

evaṃ sthitvā sthitvā pravṛttidharmakatvāt, sanniveśavattvāt, arthakriyākāritvādityādayo hetavaḥ kathitapañcāvayavakrameṇa boddhavyā iti |



tadetaddurmativispanditaṃ jagadandhīkaraṇaṃ na satāmupekṣitumucitamiti kiñciducyate | iha khalu buddhimatkāryamātrayoḥ sādhyasādhanayoḥ sarvopasaṃhāravatī vyāptistāvadavaśyaṃ grahītavyā | anyathā gamyagamakabhāvāyogāt | sā ca gṛhyamāṇā kiṃ kāraṇakāryamātrayoriva viparyayabādhakapramāṇabalād grāhyā | yadvā'gnidhūmayoriva viśiṣṭānvayavyatirekagrahaṇapravaṇaviśiṣṭapratyakṣānupalambhābhyāṃ boddhavyā | uta svavyavasthayā sapakṣāsapakṣayorbhūyodarśanādarśanābhyāṃ pratyetavyā | āhosvit sapakṣāsapakṣayoḥ sakṛddarśanādarśanābhyāṃ jñātavyeti catvāro vikalpāḥ |



na tāvadādyaḥ pakṣaḥ | sādhyaviparyaye buddhimadabhāve kāryatvasāmānyasya sādhanasya bādhakapramāṇābhāvāt | nanu bādhakapramāṇābhāvo'siddhaḥ | tathā hīdaṃ kāryatvaṃ yathā buddhimatā vyāptamiṣyate tathā deśakālasvabhāvaniyatatvenāpi, kādācitkakāraṇasannidhimattayāpi, sāmagrīkāryatvenāpi vyāptamupalabdham | sa ca deśādi niyamaḥ kādācitkakāraṇasannidhiḥ sāmagrī vā buddhimatpūrvikā siddhā | yadi punaracetanāni cetanānadhiṣṭhitāni kāryaṃ kuryuḥ tato patra kvacanāvasthitāni janayeyuriti na deśakālasvabhāvaniyataprasavaṃ kāryamupalabhyeta |



hetusamavadhānajanmatayā na kāryaṃ pratyekaṃ kāraṇairjanyata iti cet | samavadhānameva tu kāraṇānāṃ kutaḥ | kādācitkaparipākādadṛṣṭaviśeṣāditi cet | nanvayamacetanaḥ kathaṃ yathāvat kāraṇāni sannidhāpayet | no khalu kvacidavasthitāni daṇḍādīni vinā kumbhakāraprayatnamadṛṣṭaviśeṣavaśādeva parasparaṃ sannidhīyante | sannihitāni vā kāryāya prabhavantīti buddhimatā deśakālasvabhāvaniyamasya kādācitkakāraṇasannidheḥ sāmagryāśca vyāptisiddhiḥ | buddhimadabhāve caiṣāṃ vyāpakānāṃ nivṛttau nivartamānaṃ kāryatvaṃ buddhimatpūrvakatvena vyāpyata iti pratibandhasiddhaye vyāpakānupalambhatrayamupanyastam | tathā ca na kāryaṃ buddhimatparityāgāt ahetukameva bhavatīti saṃbhāvyam, deśakālasvabhāvaniyamābhāvaprasaṅgāt | nāpi buddhimato'nyasmādeva bhavatīti śaṅkanīyam, sakṛdapyutpādābhāvaprasaṅgāt | na cānyasmādasmādapi bhavatīti saṃbhāvyam, aniyatahetutve'hetutvaprasaṅgāt | tathā buddhimantamantareṇācetanena karaṇe sarvadā kriyāyā avirāmaprasaṅgaścetyapi viparyayabādhakamatiprasaṅgacatuṣṭayaṃ vyāptiprasādhakamiti kāryatvasya hetupūrvakatvamiva buddhimatpūrvakatvamapyavāryamiti cet |



atrocyate | sidhyatyevedaṃ manorājyaṃ yadi deśakālasvabhāvaniyamasya kādācitkakāraṇasannidheḥ sāmagryāśca buddhimatpūrvakatvena vyāptiḥ sidhyati | kevalametadeva durāpam | buddhimadabhāve'pi hi svahetubalasamutpannasannidhe(ḥ) pratiniyatadeśakālaśaktinā''cetanenāpi sāmagrīlakṣaṇakāraṇaviśeṣeṇa kriyamāṇāni deśakālasvabhāvaniyamakādācitkakāraṇasannidhisāmagrīkāryatvāni yujyanta iti sandigdhāsiddhā vyāpakānupalabdhayaḥ ||



buddhimadabhāve samavadhānameva kuta iti cet | tadapi cetanānadhiṣṭhitayathoktācetanasāmagrīviśeṣādeva | so'pi tādṛśādityanādyacetanasāmagrīparamparāto'pideśādiniyamasaṃbhāvanāyāṃ nāvaśyaṃ buddhimadapekṣā | ghaṭāderdeśakālasvabhāvaniyamaḥ kādācitkakāraṇasannidhiśca, sāmagrī ca buddhimatpūrvikā dṛṣṭā ityaparopi deśakālasvabhāvaniyamādistathaiveti cet | yadyevaṃ ghaṭādikamapi kāryaṃ bahuśo buddhimatpūrvakamupalabdhamiti sarvameva kāryaṃ tathāstu, kimanena vyāpakānu (pa)lambhopanyāsaduarvyasanena | ghaṭāderbahuśo buddhimatpūrvakatvadarśane'pi na sarvatra kāryamātrasya tathābhāvaniścayaścet | deśādiniyamādīnāmapīdaṃ samānamiti kathamatrāpi śaṅkāvyudāsaḥ ||



astu tadā pratyakṣameva sarvatra vyāptigrāhakamiti cet | na tarhi viparyayabādhakapramāṇabalād vyāptigrahanirvāhaḥ | pratyakṣaṃ ca tatrāśaktamiti dvitīyavikalpāvasare nivedayiṣyate |tathā siddhe kāryakāraṇabhāve dhūmasyāhetukotpatāvanyasmādevo tpattāvanyasmādapyutpattau saṃbhāvyamānāyāṃ deśādiniyamābhāva (klṛptahetu) tyāga (anya) hetutvaprasaṅgāḥ saṅgacchante | prastute tu buddhimatkāryamātrayoḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvo nādyāpi siddhaḥ | sādhayituṃ vā śakyaḥ | na cācetanasya kartṛtve kriyāyā avirāmaprasaṅgaḥ saṅgataḥ | na hyacetanamityeva sarvadā sāmarthyayogi, tasyāpi svahetuparamparāpratibaddhasāmarthyatvādityacetanakāraṇaviśeṣaparamparāsaṃbhāvanāyāṃ nāvaśyaṃ buddhimadākṣepa iti svamatavyālopaviklavavikrośitamātramevedaṃ na punaratra nyāyagandho'pi |



tadevaṃ vyāptisādhanārthamupanyastaṃ vyāpakānupalambhatrayaṃ sandigdhāsiddhamatiprasaṅgatucaṣṭayaṃ ca buddhimatkāryamātrayorvyāptyasiddhāvasaṅgatam | ataḥ kāryatvaṃ sādhanaṃ sandigdhavipakṣavyāvṛttikatvādanaikāntikam ||



atra vācaspatiḥ prāha -



sandigdhavipakṣavyāvṛttikatvaṃ nāma hetudoṣa eva na bhavati | tatkathaṃ nirasyate | tathā hi ya eva vipakṣe dṛṣṭo hetuḥ sa eva prameyatvādivadabhimataṃ na sādhayet | yastu mahatāpi prayatnena mṛgyamāṇo'sapakṣe nopalakṣitaḥ sa kathaṃ sādhyaṃ na sādhayet |



avaśyaṃśaṅkayā bhāvyaṃ niyāmakamapaśyatām |

iti tu datāvakāśā laukikamaryādātikrameṇa saṃśayapiśācī labdhaprasarā na kvacinnāstoti nāyaṃ kvacitpravarteta | sarvasyaivārthasya kathañcicchaṅkāspadatvādarśanāt | anarthaśaṅkāyāśca prekṣāvatāṃ nivṛttyaṅgatvāt | antataḥ snigdhānnapānopayoge'pi maraṇadarśanāt | tasmāt prāmāṇikalokayātrāmanupālayatā yathādarśanaṃ śaṅkanīyam, na tvadṛṣṭamapi | viśeṣasmṛtyapekṣo hi saṃśayo nāsmṛterbhavati | na ca smṛtirananubhūtacare bhavati |



taduktaṃ mīmāṃsāvārttikakṛtā adhyuṣṭasahasrikāyām -

nāśaṅkā niḥpramāṇiketi |

tathā tenaiva bṛhaṭṭīkāyām -

utprekṣeta hi yo mohādajātamapi bādhakam |

sa sarvavyavahāreṣu saṃśayātmā kṣayaṃ vrajet || iti ||



tadetat pralāpamātram | na hi mahatāpi prayatnena vipakṣe mṛgyamāṇasya hetoradarśanamātreṇa vyatirekaḥ sidhyati | tathā hi vipakṣe heturnopalabhyata ityanena tadupalambhakapramāṇanivṛttirucyate | pramāṇaṃ ca prameyasya kāryam, nākāraṇaṃ viṣaya iti nyāyāt | na ca kāryanivṛttau kāraṇanivṛtirupalabdhā, nirdhūmasyāpi bahnerupalambhāt | yadi punaḥ pramāṇasattayā prameyasattā vyāptā syāt, tadā yuktametat | kevalamiyameva vyāptirasaṃbhavinī, sarvasya sarvadarśitvaprasaṅgāt | tannādarśanamātreṇa vyatirekasiddhiḥ | yathoktam -



sarvādṛṣṭiśca sandigdhā svādṛṣṭirvyabhicāriṇī |

vindhyādrirandhradūrvāderadṛṣṭāvapi sattvataḥ || iti



sakalavipakṣasyārvācīnaṃ pratyadṛśyatvāt |



yaccoktam - saṃśayapiśācī labdhaprasarā na kvacinnāstīti na kvacit pravarteteti | tadasaṅgatam | arthasaṃśayasyāpi prekṣāvatāṃ pravṛttyaṅgatvāt pravṛttiravirodhinyeva | anarthasandehaḥ sarvatra kartuṃ śakyate | antataḥ snigdhānnapānopayoge'pi maraṇadarśanādapravṛttiriti cet | duarjñānametat | tathā hi arthasandeho'narthasandeho veti nāyaṃ ṣaṣṭhīsamāsaḥ | kintvarthonmukhaḥ sandeho'rthasandehaḥ, anarthonmukhaḥ sandeho'nartha sandeha iti śākapārthivādivanmadhyapadalopī samāsaḥ | evaṃ sati snigdhānnapānādāvarthasandeha eva, tajjātīyasya svaparasantāne dṛṣṭipuṣṭyādyarthasya koṭiśaḥ karaṇadarśanāt, maraṇāderanarthasya kvacit kadāciddarśanāt | etadviviparīto'narthasandeho draṣṭavyaḥ | tasmāt pramāṇādivārthasaṃśayādapi prekṣāvatāṃ tatra tatra pravṛttirdurvāraiva ||



yadapīdaṃ lapitaṃ yathādarśanaṃ śaṅkanīyaṃ nādṛṣṭapūrvamapi viśeṣasmṛtyapekṣo hi saṃśaya ityādi | tadasaṃbaddham | sādhakabādhakapramāṇābhāvādeva paryudāsavṛttyā vasvantararūpāt sarvatra saṃśayotpatteḥ | kiṃca viśeṣasmṛtyapekṣa evāyaṃ saṃśayaḥ | tathā hi lakṣaṇayogitvāyogitvābhyāmeva tajjātīyātajjātīye vaktavye | anyathā lakṣaṇapraṇayanamanarthakaṃ syāt | evaṃ ca sati tādātmyatadutpattilakṣaṇapratibandhaviyogitvena sādhāraṇena dharmeṇa prameyatvadhūmatvakāryatvādīnāṃ tvanmatena sajātīyatvāt prameyatvavyabhicāradarśanameva śaṅkāmupasthāpayatīti yathādarśanamevedamāśaṅkitam |



yaśca kumārilasya sākṣitvenopanyāsaḥ sakhalu



dadhibhāṇḍe viḍālaḥ sākṣīiti



pravādaṃ nātipatatīti kimatra vaktavyam | tadevaṃ vipakṣe'darśanamātreṇa heto'rvyatirekāsiddheḥ sandigdhavipakṣavyāvṛttikatvaṃ nāma hetudūṣaṇaṃ durvārameva | ata evāsyopanyāso'doṣodbhāvanaṃ nāma nigrahasthānamiti yadanenāveditaṃ tadapi sāvadyam | pratyutāsmin hetoḥ saddūṣaṇe parihartavye nāyaṃ hetudoṣo'to na parihartavyo'sya copanyāso'doṣodbhāvanaṃ nāma nigrahasthānamiti bruvannayameva tapasvī svamatena niranuyojyānuyogalakṣaṇena nigrahasthānena nigṛhyata iti kṛpāmarhati | tadevaṃ viparyayabādhakapramāṇābhāvādavyāpterasiddheḥ sandigdhavipakṣavyāvṛttikatvādanaikāntikaḥ kāryatvalakṣaṇo hetuḥ ||



athāgnidhūmayoriva viśiṣṭānvayavyatirekagrahaṇapravaṇaviśiṣṭapratyakṣānupalambhābhyāṃ vyaptirniśvīyata iti dvitīyaḥ pakṣaḥ | atrocyate | kiṃ dṛśyaśarīropādhinā buddhimanmātreṇa vyāptirgṛhyate, āhosvit dṛśyaśarīropādhiviśureṇa dṛśyādṛśyasādhāraṇeneti vikalpau | yadyādyaḥ pakṣaḥ, tadā tathābhūtasādhyamantareṇāpyutpadyamāne viṭapādau kāryatvadarśanāt prameyatvādivat sādhāraṇānaikāntiko hetuḥ |



nanu vṛkṣādayaḥ pakṣīkṛtāḥ | kathaṃ tairvyabhicāraḥ | trividho hi bhāvarāśiḥ | sandigdhakartṛko yathā vṛkṣādiḥ | prasiddhakartṛko yathā ghaṭādiḥ | akartṛko yathā ākāśādiḥ | tatra prasiddhakartṛke ghaṭādau pratyakṣānupalambhābhyāṃ vyāptimādāya sandehapade kṣmāruhādau kāryatvamupasaṃhṛtya buddhimānanumīyate | na punarasau vyabhicāraviṣayo bhavitumarhati |



yadāha - na sādhyenaiva vyabhicāra iti | ayuktametat | na hi vyabhicāraviṣaya eva pakṣe bhavitumarhati,



sandigdhe hetuvacanād vyasto hetoranāśrayaḥ



iti nyāyāt | vyabhicāraviṣayatā ca dṛśyaśarīropādherbuddhimanmātrasya tṛṇādyutpattau dṛśyānupalambhena pratikṣiptatvāt | tataśca kṣmādharādireva sandigdhakartṛkaḥ pakṣīkartumucitaḥ kṣmāruhādistvacetanakartṛka iti caturtho bhāvarāśirneṣṭavyaḥ | atha vyabhicāracamatkārāstrividhabhāvarāśivyavasthāpanārthaṃ ca viṭapādau pratyakṣāpratikṣiptena dṛśyādṛśyasādhāraṇena buddhimanmātreṇa vyaptiravagamyata iti dvitīyaḥ saṅkalpaḥ | tadā viṭapādau buddhimanmātrasya saṃbhāvyamānatvāt na sādhāraṇānaikāntikatāṃ brū maḥ | kiṃ tarhi vyāptigrahaṇakāle dṛśyādṛśyasādhāraṇasya buddhimanmātrasya sādhyasyādṛśyatayā dṛśyānupalambhena vyatirekāsiddhervyāpterabhāvāt sandigdhavyāvṛttikatvamācakṣmahe | tathā hi | yadā kumbhakāravyāpārātpūrvaṃ kumbhasya vyatirekaḥ pratyetavyastadā na sādhyābhāvakṛto ghaṭavyatirekaḥ pratyetuṃ śakyaḥ | yathā hi viṭapādijanmasamaye buddhimanmātrasyādṛśyatvena niṣeddhumaśakyatvāt sattāsaṃbhāvanā tathā ghaṭādāvapi vyatirekaniścayakāle buddhimanmātrasyādṛśyatvāt sattvasaṃbhāvanāyāṃ sādhyābhāvaprayuktasya sādhanābhāvasyāsiddhatvena vyāpterabhāvāt kathaṃ na sandigdhavyatireko hetuḥ |



yathoktam - na ca yathā kāryaṃ ca syānnirupādānaṃ ceti nāśaṅkanīyam, tathā kāryaṃ ca bhavedakartṛkaṃ ceti nāśaṅkanīyamiti, tatrāpi kāryaṃ ca syānnirupādānaṃ ca bhavediti na vaktavyamiti kenaiva pratārito'si | yadi hyatra pratyakṣānupalambhābhyāṃ vyāptirgṛhyate tadā kathamupādānapūrvakaṃ kāryamātra sidhyati | vyāptigrahaṇaprakārāntaraṃ ca tvayāpi nopanyastam | dṛśyādṛśyasādhāraṇayorupādānakāryamātrayordṛśyaviṣayābhyāṃ pratyakṣānupalambhābhyāṃ vyāpterabhyūhitumaśakyatvāt | svamatavyālopaprasaṅgastu pramāṇacintāvasare'prāptāvakāśaḥ | viparyayabādhakapramāṇabalādvā'tra vyāptisiddhiḥ | tathā hi yathāṅkurādikaṃ kāryaṃ niyatadeśakālasvabhāvatvena vyāptaṃ tathā śālitvādināpi jātibhedena vyāptamupalabdham | tataścānupādānapūrvakatvādvipakṣātmanaḥ śālitvādijātibhedasya vyāpakasya nivṛttau nivartamānaṃ kāryatvamupādānapūrvakatve viśrāmyat tena vyāptaṃ sidhyati | na cānupādānenāpi kriyamāṇaḥ śālitvādijātibhedo yujyate, upādānaṃ vinā kṛtānupādānādeva kevalādekajātīyakāraṇāt tadatajjātīyakāryotpattau kāryabhedasyāhetukatvaprasaṅgāt taduktam -



tadatadrūpiṇo bhāvāstadatadrūpahetujāḥ || iti |



anyathānupādānādeva kṣityāderaṅkurādikamutpadyetetyaṅkurārthino bījaṃ nānusareyuḥ | tasmādviparyayabādhakapramāṇabalādeva kāryatvasya hetumātrapūrvakatvenevopādānapūrvakatvenāpi vyāptisiddhiriti nyāyaḥ | na caivaṃ kāryamātrakartṛtvamātrayorapi vyāptiprasādhakaṃ viparyaye bādhakaṃ pramāṇamasti, pūrvoktasya vyāpakānupalambhatrayasyāti prasaṅgacatuṣṭayasya ca prāgeva pratyākhyātatvāt | tasmātkāryaṃ ca syāt na ca dhīmatkartṛpūrvakamiti śaṅkāṃ kurvāṇaḥ prativādī vinā caraṇamardanādinā niṣeddhumaśakyaḥ ||



nanu yadi dṛśyāgnidhūmasāmānyayoriva dṛśyātmanoreva kāryakāraṇasāmānyayoḥ pratyakṣānupalambhato vyāptistadā paracittānumānakṣatiḥ | svaparasantānasādhāraṇena dṛśyādṛśyena cinmātreṇa pratyakṣato dṛśyaviṣayād vyāptigrahaṇāyogādityapi na vācyam | bāhyārthasthitau hi svaparasantānasādhāraṇasya cinmātrasya svarūpeṇādṛśyatve'pi dṛśyaśarīreṇa sahaikasāmagrīpratibandhādavinirbhāgavartitvamastyeva | tato yathā ghaṭaviṣayaṃ pratyakṣaṃ rūpaikadeśapravṛttamapyavyabhicārāt samudāyopasthāpakam tathā dehagrāhakameva pratyakṣaṃ dehāvinirbhāgavarti svaparasantānasādhāraṇaṃ cinmātraṃ kampādervyāpakamadhigacchati | tadevaṃ dṛśyātmano dṛśyāvinirbhāgavartino vā padārthasya vyāvahārikapaṭupratyakṣataḥ siddhirvyāptigrahaśca, na tu tathātvavinākṛtādṛśyasādhāraṇacinmātrasyeti santānāntarānumānamucitam | tasmād yadi pratyakṣānupalambhābhyāṃ vyāptigrahastadā dṛśyenaiva dṛśyasyeti nyāyaḥ |



tadayaṃ saṃkṣepārthaḥ -



kāryatvasya vipakṣavṛttihataye saṃbhāvyate'tīndriyaḥ

kartā ced vyatirekasiddhividhurā vyāptiḥ kathaṃ sidhyati |

dṛśyo'tha vyatirekasiddhimanasā kartā samāśrīyate

tattyāge'pi tadā tṛṇādikamiti vyaktaṃ vipakṣe kṣaṇam ||



ato na pratyakṣānupalambhābhyāmapi vyāptisiddhiḥ ||



nanu bhūyodarśanādarśanābhyāṃ pratibandhaḥ pratīyata iti tṛtīya evāsmākaṃ pakṣaḥ | kevalaṃ sa pratibandho na tadutpattilakṣaṇo grahītavyaḥ | kintu svābhāvikaḥ | sa eva darśanādarśanābhyāṃ pratīyate | tathā caitamevārthaṃ vācaspatiḥ prāha -



na sapakṣāsapakṣayordarśanābhyāṃ kāryatvasya gamakatvamapi tu svābhāvikapratibandhabalāditi brū maḥ | sa eva tu sapakṣāsapakṣayordarśanādarśanābhyāṃ bakṣyamāṇena krameṇa pratīyata iti tadupakṣepo'pi yuktaḥ | tena yasyāsau svābhāvikapratibandho niyataḥ siddhaḥ sa eva gamako gamyaścetaraḥ sambandhīti yujyate | tathā hi dhūmādīnāṃ vahnyādibhiḥ saha sambandhaḥ svābhāviko na tu vahnyādīnāṃ dhūmādibhiḥ | te hi vinā dhūmādibhirupalabhyante | yadā tvārdrendhanasaṃbandhamanubhavanti tadā dhūmādibhiḥ saṃbadhyante | tasmād vahnyādīnāmārdrendhanādyupādhikṛtaḥ sambandho na tu svābhāvikastato na niyataḥ | svābhāvikastu dhūmādīnāṃ vahnyādibhiḥ sambandhaḥ, tadupādheranupalabhyamānatvāt | kvacid vyabhicārasyādarśanāt | anupalabhyamānasyāpi kalpanānupapatteḥ | na cānupalabhyamāno darśanānarhatayā sādhakabādhakapramāṇābhāvena sandihyamāna upādhiḥ saṃbandhasya svābhāvikatvaṃ pratibadhnātīti yuktam | yathoktaṃ prāk seyaṃ saṃśayapiśācītyādi | tasmādupādhiṃ prayatnenānviṣyanto'nupalabhamānā nāstītyavagamya svābhāvikatvaṃ niścinumaḥ ||



syādetat | anyasyānyena sahākāraṇena cet svābhāvikaḥ sambandho bhavet, sarvaṃ sarveṇa sambadhyeta | tathā ca sarvaṃ sarvasmād gamyeta | athānyaccedanyasya kāryaṃ kasmāt sarvaṃ sarvasmānna bhavati anyatvāviśeṣāt | tataśca sa evātiprasaṅgaḥ | yadyucyeta svabhāvā na paryanuyojyāḥ | tasmādanyatvāviśeṣe'pi kiñcideva kāraṇaṃ kāryaṃ ca kiñciditi | nanveṣa svabhāvānanuyogo'kāryakāraṇabhūtānāmapi svabhāvaprativandhe tulya eva | tasmād yatkiñcidetadapi ||



kimasya saṃbandhasya vyāptigrāhakaṃ pramāṇamiti cet | ucyate

bhūyodarśanagamyā hi vyāptiḥ sāmānyadharmayoḥ |



iti prasiddhameva | asyāyamarthaḥ kāśikākāreṇa vyākhyātaḥ - prācīnānekadarśanajanitasaṃskārasahāye carame darśane cetasi vakāsti dhūmasyāgniniyatasvabhāvatvam, ratnatattvamiva parokṣakasya, śabdatattvamiva vyākaraṇasmṛtisaṃskṛtasya, brāhmaṇatvamiva mātāpitṛsaṃbandhasmaraṇasacivasyetyādi | na hyetat sarvamāpātato na pratibhātamiti purastādapi pratibhāsamānamanyathā bhavatīti ||



trilocanena punarayamarthaḥ kathitaḥ - bhūyodarśanena bhūyodarśanasahāyena manasā tajjātīyānāṃ saṃbandho gṛhīto bhavati | ato dhūmo'gniṃ na vyabhicarati | tadvayabhicārepyupādhirahitaṃ sambandhamatikrāmet | hetorvipakṣaśaṅkānivartakaṃ pramāṇamupalabdhilakṣaṇaprāptopādhivirahaniścayaheturanupalambhākhyaṃ pratyakṣameva | tataḥ siddhaḥ svābhāvikaḥ sambandhaḥ | tathehāpīti svamataṃ vyavasthāpitamiti ||



vācaspatināpīdamuktam - abhijātamaṇibhedatattvavad bhūyodarśanajanitasaṃskārasahāyamindriyameva dhūmādīnā vahnyādibhiḥ svābhāvikasaṃbandhagrāhīti yuktamiti ||



atrocyate | bhede sati tadutpatteranyaḥ svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandhaḥ śabdāsphālanamātramevedam | na khalu nirūpyamāṇaḥ prāpyate | tathā hi svābhāvikastu dhūmādīnāṃ vahnyādibhiḥ saṃbandhaḥ tadupādheranupalabhyamānatvāt | kvacid vyabhicārasyādarśanāditi tvayaivāsya lakṣaṇamuktam | etaccāsiddham | yataḥ, upādhiśabdena svato'rthāntaramevāpekṣaṇīyamabhidhātavyam | na cārthāntaraṃ dṛśyatāniyatam, adṛśyasyāpi deśakālasvabhāvaviprakṛṣṭasya saṃbhavāt | tataśca dhūmasyāpi hutāśena saha sambandhe syādupādhiḥ, na copalakṣyata iti kathamadarśanānnāstyeva yataḥ svābhāvikasaṃbandhasiddhiḥ ||



atha yadyathāntaramapekṣaṇīyaṃ syāt | kathaṃ dhūma ityeva pāvakasatāniyama iti cet | nanvidameva cintyate | tadutpatterasvīkāre sahasraśo darśane'pi kiṃ sarvatra dhūme satyavaśyamagniḥ sambhavī na veti kadācidarthāntaramupādhimapekṣya dhūmo'pi syānnāgniriti kimatra niṣṭaṅkakāraṇam | tadupādheranupalabhyamānatvāt | kvacid vyabhicārasyādarśanāditi tu yaduktaṃ tatpratyuktameva | adṛśyasyāpyupādheḥ saṃbhāvyamānatvāt | vyabhicārasya ca pratyayāntaravaikalyenāhatyādarśane'pi niṣeddhamaśakyatvāt | ata eva tayorbādhakābhāve'pi sādhakabādhakapramāṇābhāvāt śaṅkā saṃbhavatyeva | na punastavāmunā viklavavikrośitamātreṇa vyāvartate | na caitāvatā prāmāṇikalokayātrātikramaḥ | prāmāṇikaireva sādhakabādhakapramāṇābhāve nyāyaprāptasya saṃśayasya vihitatvāt | na ca sarvatrāpravṛttiprasaṅgaḥ, pramāṇādarthasaṃśayācca pravṛtterupapatteḥ | na cānarthasandehaḥ sarvatra va rtuṃ śakyate, kvacidarthonmukhatāyā eva darśanāt ||



yaccānyatvāviśeṣe'pi kiñcideva kāraṇaṃ kāryaṃ ca kiñciditi svabhāvo yathā na paryanuyojyastathaiṣa svabhāvānanuyogo'kāryakāraṇabhūtānāmapi svabhāvapratibandhe tulya eveti grāmyajanadhandhīkaraṇaṃ prativandīkaraṇamatilāghavamāviskaroti vācaspateḥ | tathā hi vastutvāviśeṣe'pyagnirdahati nākāśamityatra yathā nātiprasaṅgaḥ saṅgataḥ pramāṇasiddhatvādasyārthasya, tathā bhedāviśeṣe'pi kiñcideva kasyacitkāraṇaṃ kāryaṃ ca kiñcidityatrāpi nātiprasaṅgāvatāraḥ | bhede sati tadanvayavyatirekānuvidhānalakṣaṇasya kāryakāraṇabhāvasya pramāṇasiddhatvādeva | na caivaṃ svābhāvikasaṃbandhaśabdavācyo'rthaḥ pramāṇasiddhaḥ kaścidasti, tallakṣaṇasyāsiddhatvāduktatvāt | na ca pratijñāsiddhe vastunyatiprasaṅgo nābhidhātavyaḥ, sarveṣāṃ sarvatra tadrūpābhyupagamamātreṇa vijetṛtvaprasaṅgāt | yadāhālaṅkārakāraḥ -



yatkiñcidātmābhimataṃ vidhāya

niruttarastatra kṛtaḥ pareṇa |

vastusvabhāvairiti vācyamitthaṃ,

tathottaraṃsyādvijayī samastaḥ ||

kiṃ ca svābhāvikasaṃbandha iti ko'rthaḥ | kiṃ svato bhūtaḥ svahetuto bhūto'hetuko veti trayaḥ pakṣāḥ | na tāvadādyaḥ pakṣaḥ, svātmani kāritravirodhāt | dvitīyapakṣe tu tadutpattireva saṃbandho mukhāntareṇa svīkṛta iti na kaścidvivādaḥ | ahetukatve tu deśakālasvabhāvaniyamābhāvaprasaṅgādityasaṅgataḥ svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandhaḥ ||



etena yaduktam - na sapakṣāsapakṣayordarśanādarśanābhyāṃ kāryatvasya gamakatvamapi tu svābhāvikasaṃbandhabalāditi brūmaḥ, sa eva tu sapakṣāsapakṣayordarśanādarśanābhyāṃ vakṣyamāṇena krameṇa pratīyata iti, tadiṣṭakāmatāmātrāviṣkaraṇamiti mantavyam | svābhāvikasaṃbandhasya hyupādhinirapekṣaniyatatvaṃ lakṣaṇamuktam | tasya coktanyāyenāsiddhau bhūyodarśanajanitasaṃskārasahāye carame cetasi manasi vā tathābhūtaṃ niyatatvaṃ parisphuratīti sadayena vaktumaśakyatvāt |



yacca śabdatattvamiva brāhmaṇatvamiveti dṛṣṭāntīkṛtaṃ taddvayamapyasmān pratyasiddhamiti dṛṣṭāntayitumanucitam| abhijātamaṇibhedatattvaṃ tu parisphuratīti yuktam | tasya hyupadeśaparamparāto māṇikyavattenāpi kaṣṭenendradhanurākārajyotirādikaṃ lakṣaṇaṃ niścitam | na caivaṃ svābhāvikasaṃbandhalakṣaṇaṃ tvayā svakapolaracitamapi pramāṇena niścitam | yenāsyāpi tādṛśī vyavasthā syāditi yatkiñcidetat ||



kiṃ ca bhavatu tāvadayamanavadhāritarūpaḥ svābhāvikaḥ saṃbandhaḥ, tathāpi darśanādarśanābhyāmasya grahaṇamatidurlabham | tathā hi yadi prācīnānekadarśanajanitasaṃskārasahāyena caramacetasā dhūmasyāgniniyatatvaṃ grāhyaṃ tadā sapakṣāsapakṣayoḥ koṭiśaḥ pravṛttadarśanādarśanajanitasaṃskārasahāyena caramacetasā pārthivatvasyāpi lohalekhyatvaniyatatvaṃ gṛhyata iti pārthivatvādapi lohalekhyatvasiddhirastu | atha pārthivatvasya lohalekhyatvaniyatatvameva nāsti vajre vyābhicāradaerśanāt | tat kathaṃ pratyakṣeṇa niyatatvagrahaḥ | tarhi dhūmasya vahniniyatatvameva nāsti, vyabhicārābhāvasya darśayitumaśakyatvāt | tatkathaṃ caramacittena niyamagraha ityapi tulyam |



vyabhicārādarśanādavyabhicāra iti cet | nanu vyabhicārādarśanādavyabhicāra iti ko'rthaḥ | kiṃ vyabhicārādarśanādavyabhicāraḥ, vyabhicārābhāvāt vā | prathame pakṣe vyabhicāro bhavatu mā vā vyabhicārādarśanādevāvyabhicāra iti niṣṇātaṃ pāṇḍityam | atha dvitīyaḥ pakṣaḥ | tadā vyabhicārābhāvaḥ kuto jñātaḥ | adarśanāditi cet | tat kimadarśanamātraṃ dṛśyādarśanaṃ vā | prathamamaśaktam | na hyadarśane'pi vyabhicāro nāstītyabhidhātuṃ śakyate, cirakālanaṣṭabrāhmaṇīvyabhicāravat | āhatyādarśane'pyaticirakālavyavadhānena vyabhicāradarśanāt | dvitīyaṃ cāsambhavi, kvacit kadācit kenacid vyabhicāradarśanasāmagryāṃ satyāṃ vyabhicāradarśanāt | darśanasāmagryabhāve tu pratyayāntaravaikalyāt deśakālāntaravartitvād vā vyabhicārasya sa(rvaṃ) pratyupalabdhilakṣaṇaprāptatvābhāvāt | tasmāt satyapi vyabhicāre tadupalambhasāmagryabhāvād vyabhicārānupalambhaḥ | prakārāntareṇa vā tadutpattilakṣaṇenāvyabhicāre vyabhicārānupalambha ityubhayathāpi vyabhicāropalambhanivṛttirastu | tvayā tu yadavyabhicārapratipattinibandhanaṃ darśanādarśanamupavarṇitaṃ tatpārthivatvādau vyabhicārād dhūme'pi nāvyabhicāranibandhanamiti dhūmo'pi tvanmate nāśvāsabhājanamiti prasaktam |



asmanmate tu pratyakṣānupalambhābhyāmekatra kāryakāraṇabhāvasiddhau na vyabhicāraśaṅkāsaṃbhavaḥ | tadabhāve tu



hetumattāṃ vilaṅghayediti



nyāyāt na saṃśayapiśācāvasaraḥ | tadevaṃ bhūyodarśanādarśanābhyāmapi na vyāptisiddhiḥ |



tarhi sakṛt sapakṣāsapakṣayodarśanārdanābhyāṃ vyāpterniścaya iti caturtha eva pakṣo'stu | tathā hi kāryatvasya buddhimanmātrapūrvakatvenānvayo ghaṭādau dṛṣṭaḥ, ākāśādau buddhimatkāraṇanivṛttau kāryatvasya vyatirekaḥ | tataśca sakṛdanvayavyātireka siddhau vyāpteḥ siddhatvāt kuto'naikāntikatā |



atrābhidhīyate | yadi buddhimatkāraṇakāryatvayorekatra pratibandhaḥ pramāṇapratītaḥ syāttadā ākāśādau buddhimannivṛttau kāryatvasya nivṛttiriti yuktam | sa ca pratibandhaḥ tādātmyaṃ tadutpattiḥ svābhāviko'nyo vā na sidhyati sādhakapramāṇābhāvādityanantaramevāveditam | tataścākāśādau buddhimannivṛttirapi syāt | na ca kāryatvasya nivṛttiriti sandigdhavipakṣavyāvṛttikatvādanaikāntikaṃ kāryatvam |



nanvākāśasyāsmanmate nityatvaṃ tvanmate cāsattvam | tatkathamataḥ kāryatvavyatirekaḥ sandigdha iti cet | ucyate | nahyākāśe kāryavyāvṛttimātraṃ vyatirekaḥ | kintu sādhyābhāvaprayuktaḥ sādhanābhāvo vyatirekaḥ | sa cākāśe grahītumaśakyaḥ | yathā tatra buddhimatkāraṇanivṛttistathā kāraṇamātrasyāpi nivṛttiḥ | tat kasyābhāvaprayuktaḥ kāryābhāvaḥ pratīyatāṃ yena vyatirekaḥ sidhyati ||



nanu satyamevaitat | yathākāśe buddhimatkāraṇanivṛttistathā kāraṇamātrasyāpi tatra nivṛttirna buddhimatkāraṇavyatirekānuvidhāyitvaṃ kāryatvasya niścetuṃ śakyate | tathāpi ghaṭādau kāryatvasya buddhimatānyayadarśanādākāśe'pi buddhimadabhāvaprayuktaḥ kāryatvābhāvaḥ pratīyate | tatkathaṃ vyatirekāsiddhiriti cet | hanta ghaṭādāvapi na kāryatvasya sattāmātramanvayaḥ | kiṃ tu sādhyasadbhāvaprayuktaḥ sādhanasadbhāvaḥ | sa ca ghaṭe grahītumaśakyaḥ | yathā hi tatra buddhimadbhāvastathā kaṭakuḍyādibhāvo'pi | tat ka evaṃ jānātu kiṃ buddhimadbhāve kāryatvasya bhāvo yadvā kaṭakuḍyādibhāve bhāva iti | tasmādatra viśiṣṭānvayavyatirekagrahaṇapravaṇaviśiṣṭapratyakṣānupalambhāvanusartavyau yad dṛśyayoreva kāryakāraṇayostadutpattisiddhāvanvayavyatirekau sidhyataḥ ||



na ca pratibandhasādhakaṃ pramāṇaṃ svapne'pyastīti caturtho'pi pakṣaḥ kṣataḥ | tadevaṃ buddhimatkāryamātrayorvyāpterasiddhāvadhikaraṇasiddhānta nyāyādyupādānādyabhijñaḥ sarvajñaḥ puruṣaviśeṣaḥ sidhyatīti pratyāśā durāśaiva ||



yacca kriyāsāmānyasya pakṣadharmatāvaśāccakṣurlakṣaṇakaraṇaviśeṣasiddhiriti dṛṣṭānto darśitaḥ so'pi sādhyā(bhi)nnaḥ | tatra hi rūpajñānānyathānupapattyā siddhasya kāraṇāntarasyaiva cakṣurindriyamiti nāmakaraṇāt | rūpajñānajanakatvātiriktasya cakṣurlakṣaṇaviśeṣasyāsiddhatvāt | atha rūpajñānajanakatvameva cakṣuṣṭvamucyate | bhavatu ko doṣaḥ | etadevāsmābhi kāraṇāntaramucyate | tathaiva yadi tvayāpi buddhimatsāmānyāśrayamātrasya puruṣaviśeṣaḥ iti nāma kriyate, tadā nāsmākaṃ kācidvipratipattiḥ | paramārthato buddhimatsāmānyāśraye sarvajñatvādiviśeṣaścakṣurādiviśeṣavat sidhyatīti tatra vivadāmahe | ubhayorapi dṛṣṭāntadārṣṭāntikayorviśeṣasādhanasāmarthyābhāvāt ||



tadayaṃ saṃkṣepārthaḥ -



dṛśye tu sādhye vyabhicāra eva

dṛśyaṃ na cenna vyabhicārasiddhiḥ |

sādhāraṇatvādatha vā vipakṣa-

sandehataḥ sādhyamato na sidhyati ||



itīśvaro dattajalāñjaliḥ ||



idānīṃ sādhanasvarūpaṃ nirūpyate | yadetanmerumandaramedinīghaṭapaṭādisādhāraṇaṃ kāryamātraṃ sādhanamupanyastam yāvadasya buddhimadanvayavyatirekānuvidhānamekatra nāvadhāryate tāvad gamakatvamayuktam | na ca tat svapne'pi pratyetuṃ śakyam | tathā hi kumbhakāravyāpāre sati mṛtpiṇḍād ghaṭalakṣaṇaṃ kāryamupalabhyatāṃ nāma | na tu vyāpārāt pūrvaṃ ghaṭavatkāryamātrasya vyatirekaḥ pratyetuṃ śakyaḥ, kumbhakāravyatireke'pi śoṣabhaṅgādilakṣaṇasya kāryasya mṛtpiṇḍe darśanāt | na ca yadvinābhūtaṃ yadupalabhyate tattasya kāryamatiprasaṅgāt | tṛṇādivanmṛtpiṇḍasya śoṣabhaṅgādikāryamātramapi pakṣīkṛtamiti cet | kriyatāṃ buddhimadvyatireke kāryamātravyatirekastvekatrāpi pratipādyatāṃ yena vyāptisiddhau tṛṇādiriva śoṣabhaṅgāderapi buddhimadanumānaṃ syāt | ākāśādivaidharmyadṛṣṭāntastu pūrvaṃ pratihataḥ, buddhimatpūrvakatvasyeva kāraṇamātrapūrvakatvasyāpi tatra saṃbhavāt kiṃprayuktaḥ kāryatvābhāva ityaparijñānāt ||



etena yaduktam - na vyabhicāropalambhātprātisvikaviśeṣaparityāgena ghaṭādīnāmabhūtvābhavanādanyarūpaṃ viśeṣamupalakṣayāmo yanniṣṭhaṃ puruṣapūrvakatvaṃ vyavasthāpayāma iti tadapi prativyūḍham | kumbhakārādyabhāve'pi mṛtpiṇḍādau śoṣabhaṅgādikāryadarśanādabhūtvā bhāvalakṣaṇasya kāryamātrasya vyatirekāsiddhervyāpterabhāvāt ||



nanu yadi kāryatvamātrasya na buddhimatā pratyakṣato vyāptigrahaḥ vyatirekābhāvāt, tvayāpi tarhi kathaṃ kṛtakatvasyānityatvena vyāptiravadhāryata iti cet | anapekṣālakṣaṇaviparyayabādhakapramāṇabalāditi brūmaḥ | taccātadrūpaparāvṛttasyaiva kṛtakatvasya vipakṣād vyatirekaṃ sādhayati | na ca tvayā viparyayabādhakapramāṇamabhidhātuṃ śakyata iti prāgeva pratipāditam | sandigdhavipakṣavyāvṛttikatvādanaikāntikamidaṃ kāryatvamātram ||



etena yadetat naiyāyikānāmākṣepaparihāraviḍambanam | iha khalu dve kāryatve | kāryamātram | viśiṣṭaṃ ca | tatrādyasya pratibandhāsiddheranaikāntikatvam | viśiṣṭasya bhūdharādiṣvasaṃbhavādasiddhatvamiti | tadasaṅgatam | kāryatvamātrasyaiva pratibandhopapādanāt ||



yaccoktaṃ viśiṣṭaṃ kāryatvamiti | kīdṛśaṃ punastaditi vaktavyam | atha yatkāryaṃ ṣuruṣānvayavyatirekānuvidhāyitayā tatpūrvakamupalabdham | yaddṛṣṭerakriyādarśino'pi kṝtabuddhirutpadyate tatkāryaṃ sakalaprāsādādyanugataṃ bhūdharādivyāvṛttaṃ viśiṣṭamityabhidhīyate | tadasundaram | vikalpānupapatteḥ ||



tathā cāha śaṅkaraḥ - kṛtabuddhiḥ kiṃ sādhyabuddhiḥ kiṃ vā sādhanabuddhiḥ | sādhyabuddhirapi yadi gṛhītavyāptikasya, sā bhavatyeva | athāgṛhītavyāptikasya, kimanyatrāpi sā bhavantī dṛṣṭā | atha sādhanabuddhiḥ | tarhi svopagamavirodhaḥ, sarvasya bhāvasya kṛtakatvopagamāditi ||



vācaspatiḥ punaratrāha - idamatra nipuṇataraṃ nirūpayatu bhavān kiṃ buddhimadanvayavyatirekānuvidhānaṃ viśeṣaḥ | āhosvit taddarśanaṃ yatparvatādiṣu nāstītyabhidhīyate | yadi pūrvakaḥ kalpaḥ, sa buddhimaddhetukatvaṃ tanubhuvanādīnāmātiṣṭhamānairabhyupeyata eva | na hi kāraṇaṃ kāryānanuvihitabhāvābhāvamanyo vaktyahrīkāt | atha taddarśanamiti caramaḥ kalpaḥ | na tarhi akriyādarśinaḥ kṛtabuddhisaṃbhavaḥ | ya eva hi ghaṭo'nena buddhimadanvayavyatirekānuvidhāyī dṛṣṭaḥ, sa eva kāryo na tu vipaṇivartī| tajjātī yasya tadanvayavyatirekānuvidhānadarśanādadṛṣṭānvayavyatirekānuvidhānamapi tajjātīyaṃ tatheti cet | hantotpattimadghaṭādi buddhimadanvayavyatirekānuvidhāyīti anyadapitanubhuvanādikaṃ tathā bhavanna daṇḍena parāṇudyate ghaṭajātīyamutpattimadbuddhimatpūrvakamiti cet | nanu prāsādādi taddhetukaṃ na bhavet | aghaṭajātīyatvāt | atha yajjātīyamanvayavyatirekānuvidhāyi dṛṣṭam, tajjātīyamevādṛṣṭānvayavyatirekamapi taddhetukam | tat kiṃ kāryajātīyaṃ prāsādādi buddhimaddhetukaṃ na dṛṣṭam yenotpattimattanubhuvanādi tathā na syāt | na khalu tajjātīyatve kaścidviśeṣa iti ||



vittokastvāha - bhavatu vā kaścidanirūpitarūpo viśeṣaḥ | kiṃ punaranena viśeṣaṃ pratipādayatābhipretam | kiṃ kāryatvasāmānyasyāsiddhatvam | atha kāryaviśeṣasya | atha kāryamātrasya buddhimatkartṛvyabhicāraḥ | atha sādhyadṛṣṭāntayorvaidharmyamātram | kiṃ cātaḥ yadi tāvat kāryasāmānyasyāsiddhatvam | tannāsti | viśvambharādiṣvapi kāraṇavyāpārajanyatvasyobhayasiddhatvāt | atha kāryaviśeṣasya kumbhādivartinaḥ pakṣe'siddhirabhidhīyate | tadā na kācidatra kṣatirviśeṣasya hetutvenānupādānāt | yadi kāryasāmānyasya kartṛvyabhicāraḥ pratipādayitumiṣṭaḥ | sa na śakyo vipakṣe'darśanāt | tṛṇādeśca pakṣīkṛtatvāt | śaṅkāmātrasya sarvathāniṣiddhatvāt | sandigdhavyatirekitvaṃ naiyāyikānāṃ niranuyojyānuyogo bauddhānāmadoṣodbhāvanaṃ nigrahasthānamiti tu pratipāditam | tathāpi bādhakapramāṇānyabhihitānyeva | tasmānna pratibandhāsiddheḥ sarvatra vyabhicārāśaṅkā | atha sādhyadṛṣṭāntayorvaidharmyodbhāvanam | tanna | tasya sarvatra sulabhatvāt | yadi sādhyadṛṣṭāntayorvaidharmyamātrāt sādhyāsiddhiḥ nirvṛttedānīmanumānavārtāpi nikuñjamahānasayorapi dhūmavattve'pi kathañcid vaidharmyopapatteriti sakalaṃ yatkiñcidetaditi |



tadayamatra saṃkṣepārthaḥ | yattāvat kāryatvamātraṃ tadevoktena krameṇa pratibandhasiddherbhūdharādiṣu dṛṣṭaṃ puruṣamanumāpayatītyasmākamabhimatasādhyamasiddhirupapannaiveti kimasmākamadhikacintayetyaṅgīkṛtyāpyuktaṃ viśiṣṭakāryatvam | tadeva tu nāstīti punarvistareṇa pratipāditamiti tadapi sarvamanavadheyameva | tathā hi kāryatvamātrasya tāvaduktena krameṇa vyāpterasiddhatvādanaikāntikatvamanivāryam | yacca viśiṣṭakāryatvaṃ vikalpya dūṣitaṃ tasyāsmābhiranabhyupagatatvāt taddūṣaṇāya prabandhaḥ prayāsaikaphalaḥ | na hi kāryatvaṃ dvividhamabhimatam | ekaṃ sarvakāryānugatam, aparaṃ parvatādivyāvṛttaṃ ghaṭapaṭaprāsādādyanuyāyīti | kiṃ tu kāryamanekajātīyakam | tatra yadi nāma paṭasya prāsādādibhiḥ saha vastutvasaṃsthānaviśeṣayogitvakāryatvādibhirdharmaiḥ sajātīyatvamasti tathāpi na tān dharmān buddhimatpūrvakānadhigacchati vyāvahārikaṃ pratyakṣam, kāryatvādīnāṃ buddhimadvyatirekānuvidhānābhāvāt | tatkathaṃ prāsādaparvatādiṣu kāryatvādidarśanād buddhimadanumānamastu | kiṃ tu yasyaiva ghaṭajātīya kāryaṃcakrasya vyatirekasiddhistasya buddhimadvyāptatvaṃ pratyakṣataḥ sidhyatītyuktam | tena deśakālāntare ghaṭajātīyādeva buddhimadanumānam | yadā tu prāsādajātīyakamapi buddhimaddhetukamekatra pṛthagavadhāryate tadā tajjātīyādapi buddhimatsiddhiḥ | evaṃ tattajjātīyasarābodañcanaśakaṭapaṭakeyūraprabhṛteḥ kāryacakrād buddhimatpūrvakatvena pṛthak pṛthagavadhāritād buddhimadanumānamanavadyam |



amumevārthamabhisandhāyācāryapādairabhihitam-

siddhaṃ yādṛgadhiṣṭhātṛbhāvābhāvānuvṛttimat |

sanniveśādi tadyuktaṃ tasmād yadanumīyate ||



iti | evaṃ ghaṭapaṭaparvatādīnāṃ kāryatvavastutvādibhirdharmaiḥ sajātīyatve'pi avāntaraṃ ghaṭapaṭaparvatatvādijātibhedamādāya lokasya vyāptigrāhakaṃ pratyakṣaṃ pravartataṃ iti darśayituṃ saṃvyavahārapragalbhapuruṣabuddhyapekṣayā yaddarśanādakriyādarśino'pi kṛtabuddhirbhavatītyuktam | na tu śāstraparavaśabuddhipuruṣāpekṣayā | tathā hi śāstrasaṃskārarahitasya vyavahārapragalbhasya puruṣasya devakulajātīyakaṃ puruṣapūrvakatayāvadhāritavato nagarādvanaṃ praviṣṭasya parvatadevakulayordarśane tayordvayorapyakriyādarśino'pi devakule kṛtabuddhirbhavati na parvate | tadanayordevakulaparvatayoḥ kāryatvādinā ekajātitve'pi kṛtabuddhibhāvābhāvau na tayoḥ parvatadevakulatvalakṣaṇāvāntarajātibhedamanavasthāpya sthātuṃ prabhavataḥ | jātibhede ca siddhe devakulajātīye vyāptergrahaṇāt na parvatajātīyasya, na ca prāsādajātīyasya vyāptisiddhiriti na tato buddhimadanumānam | yadā tu prāsādasyāpi pṛthag vyāptigrahaḥ tadā tajjātīyādapi buddhimadanumānamastu | na kṣitidharādijātīyasya svapne'pi vyāptigrahaḥ krīḍāparvatādernāmamātrābhede'pi parvatādibhirekāntato bhinnasvarūpatvāt | yacca pṛṣṭaṃ keyaṃ kṛtabuddhirityādi | tatra kāmaṃ sādhyabuddhireveti brūmaḥ | yaccātroktaṃ sādhyabuddhirapi yadi gṛhītavyāptikasya sā bhavatyeva | athāgṛhītavyāptikasya kimanyatrāpi sā bhavantī dṛṣṭeti ||



atrocyate | gṛhītavyāptikasyānumānaṃ bhavati, agṛhītavyāptikasya na bhavatītyatrāsmākaṃ na kācidvipratipattiḥ | kevalaṃ gṛhītavyāptikosmin viṣaye na saṃbhavatīti brūmaḥ | uktakrameṇa vyatirekāsiddhervyāvahārikapratyakṣeṇa kāryatvasya vyāptatvāniścayāt | tasmādavāntarajātibhedaprasiddhyarthaṃ vyāvahārikapuruṣāpekṣayaivāsyā buddherbhāvābhāvāvuktau | jātibhede ca prayojanaṃ pūrvameva pratipāditam |



yadapyatra nipuṇammanyena vācaspatinā kathitaṃ tat kiṃ kāryajātīyaṃ prāsādādi buddhimaddhetukaṃ na dṛṣṭaṃ yenotpattimattanubhuvanādi tathā na syāt, na khalu tajjātīyakatve kaścidviśeṣa iti | tadasaṅgatam | tathā hi bhavatu prāsādaparvatādīnāṃ kāryatvādinā sajātīyatvam | tattu na vyāvahārikapratyakṣeṇa buddhimadvyāptaṃ pratyetuṃ śakyam, vyāptigrahaṇasamaye dṛṣṭānte buddhimadabhāvaprayuktasya kāryamātravyatirekasya darśayitumaśakyatvāt |



tadayaṃ saṃkṣepārthaḥ | kāryatvamātrasyāvyatirekādavyāptasyāgamakatvam | avāntaraṃ tu ghaṭaprāsādādisādhāraṇaṃ kāryatvamātramasmābhirapi na svīkṛtameva | yathā tu ghaṭatvapaṭatvādiprātisvikānekajātipuraskāreṇa prasiddhānumānavyavasthā sā cānavadyamavasthāpiteti |



saṃprati sādhyātmā vicāryate | nanu vādinā sādhane samupanyaste taddūṣaṇopanyāsamapāsya sādhyasvarūpavikalpanaṃ nāma naiyāyikamate niranuyojyānuyogaḥ, saugatamate tvadoṣodbhāvanaṃ nigrahasthānamiti cet | tadetajjālmajalpitam | tathā hi sādhyasvarūpe'pariniṣṭhite tadanusāriṇī pakṣasapakṣavipakṣavyavasthā kutaḥ | tadasiddhau cāsiddhatādayo doṣāḥ pakṣadharmatādayaśca guṇā na vyavasthitā ityuktam | nedānīṃ hetordoṣa guṇakatheti mūkena prativādinā sthātavyam | tasmāddhetudoṣopanyāsāyaiveyaṃ sādhyaniruktirityayameva vādī svamate niranuyojyānuyogadūṣaṇena nigrahasthānena nigṛhyata iti kimatra nirbandhena |



yadetat kāryatvaṃ sādhanaṃ kimanena viśvasya buddhimanmātrapūrvakatvaṃ sādhyate | āhosvidekatvavibhutvasarvajñatvanityatvādiguṇaviśiṣṭabuddhimatpūrvakatvam | prathamapakṣe siddhasādhanam | dvitīye tu vyāpterabhāvādanaikāntikatā |



nanu sāmānyena vyāptau pratītāyāmapi pakṣadharmatābalād viśeṣasiddhiḥ | yathāgneḥ parvatāyogavyavacchedādisiddhiḥ | anyathā sarvānumānocchedaḥ | anumānadveṣī hyevaṃ jalpati -



anumānabhaṅgapaṅke'smin nimagnā vādidantinaḥ |

viśeṣe'nugamābhāvaḥ sāmānye siddhasādhyatā ||



atrocyate | sidhyatyeva pakṣadharmatābalato viśeṣaḥ | na tu sarvaḥ | yena hi vinā pakṣasthaṃ sādhanaṃ nopapadyate sa viśeṣaḥ sidhyatu | yathā vahnereva parvatavartitvādiviśeṣo na pañcavarṇaśikhākalāpakamanīyaḥ | na ca girīṇāṃ tarūṇāṃ kāryatvaṃ karturekatvavibhutvasarvajñatvādikamantareṇa nopapadyate, taditareṣvapi darśanāt | tasmāt



pakṣāyogavyavacchedabhedamātre na dūṣaṇam |

iṣṭasiddhyanvayābhāvādatirikte tu dūṣaṇam ||



yadyevaṃ svasvarūpopādānopakaraṇasaṃpradānaprayojanābhijña eva kartā sādhyate | svarūpamiha ca dvayaṇukaṃ kāryam | upādānamiha paramāṇujāticatuṣṭayam | upakaraṇaṃ samastakṣetrajñasamavāyidharmādharmau | sampradānaṃ kṣetrajñāḥ, yānayaṃ bhagavān svakarmabhirabhipraiti | prayojanaṃ sukhaduḥkhopabhogaḥ kṣetrajñānām | evaṃ bhūte buddhimati sādhye kutaḥ siddhasādhanam | na cāvyāptiḥ | kulāladṛṣṭāntena udāpānadyabhijñatvasya saṃbhavāt |



tathā ca vācaspatiḥ pramāṇayati -

vivādādhyāsitāstanugirisāgarādayaḥ upādānādyabhijñakartṛkāḥ | kāryatvāt |

yadyatkārya tattadupādānādyabhijñakartṛkam | yathā prāsādādi |

tathā ca vivādādhyāsitāstanvādayaḥ |

tasmāttatheti |



evamataḥ sādhanādupādānādyabhijñakartṛmātraṃ prasādhya tasya sarvajñatvasādhanāya vācaspatireva punarapīdamāha - bhavatu tāvadupādānādyabhijñakartṛmātrasiddhiḥ | pāriśeṣyāt tu vyatirekidvitīyanāmno'numānādviśeṣasiddhiḥ | tathā hi



tanubhuvanādyupādānadyabhijñaḥ kartā nā'nityāsarvaviṣayabuddhimān |

tatkartustadupādānādyanabhijñatvaprasaṅgāt |

na hyevaṃvidhastadupādānādyabhijño yathā'smadādiḥ |

tadupādānādyabhijñaścāyam |

tasmāttatheti |



no khalu paramāṇubhedān kṣetrajñasamavāyinaśca karmāśayabhedānaparimeyānanyaḥ śakto jñātumṛte tādṛgīśvarāditi |



atrocyate | yāvanti dvayaṇukāni bhinnadeśakālasvabhāvāni kāryāṇi santi teṣu sarveṣveva kimeka eva buddhimān vyāpriyate | aneko vā| yadvā svasvaviṣayamātropādānādivedinaḥ parasparavyāpārānabhijñā bhinnadeśakālasvabhāvāḥ pratidvayaṇukamanya eva buddhimanto vyāpriyante iti trayaḥ pakṣāḥ |



na tāvat prathamapakṣaḥ | deśakālasvabhāvabhinnānāṃ sarveṣāṃ dvayaṇukānāṃ karturekatvāsiddheḥ | yaccaikatvasādhanāya kāryaliṅgāviśeṣādityādyapi sādhanamupanyastaṃ tadasaṅgatam | dhūmaliṅgāviśeṣe'pi hyagneranekatvavat tatrāpi tacchaṅkāsaṃbhavāt | saditi liṅgāviśeṣāditi tu dṛṣṭānto'smān pratyasiddha eva, tasmād yathā mayā nānātvasādhanāya pramāṇaṃ vaktavyaṃ tathā tvayāpyekatvasādhanāya sādhanamabhidhānīyam |



atha manyate anekatvasādhanābhāvādekatvasiddhiriti | yadyevamekatvasādhanābhāvādanekatvameva kiṃ nāvagacchasi |



yadapyuktam - ekatve tu na pramāṇāntaramanveṣṭavyamekasya karturabhāve bahūnāṃ vyāhatamanasāmityādi | tadapi cintyatām | bahubhiḥ karaṇe yugapatkāryānutpattiriti kiṃ bhinnadeśakālānāṃ kāryāṇāmanutpattirvivakṣitā | ekasyaiva vā mahāvayavinaḥ | kṣitighaṭādirūpasya | tatra ekasminnapi kārye bahubhiḥ karaṇe utpattivirodhi (naṃ) na paśyāmaḥ | bahūnāṃ parasparaṃ vaimatyaniyamābhāvāt | parasparāvyāghātapuruṣatvayordvividhasyāpi virodhasyāsaṃbhavāt | puruṣatvaṃ hi apuruṣatvena viruddham | na tu parasparāvyāghātena |



ye tvanantadeśakālasvabhāvabhedabhinnāsteṣu sutarāmevānekavyāpāraniṣedho'sambhavīti dvitīyopi pakṣo vyudastaḥ | na ca karturekatvena dṛṣṭā vyāptisiddhiḥ | anekenāpi svatantreṇa svasvaprayojanārthinā grāmapraviṣṭahariṇādimāraṇaikakāryadarśanāt | tasyāpi pakṣīkaraṇe ekakartṛpūrvakābhimatasyāpi pakṣīkaraṇe ātmakartṛpūrvakatvamastu | tadevaṃ na sarvadvayaṇukānāṃ karturekatvasiddhiḥ | tathā coktam



ekakarturna siddhau tu sarvajñatvaṃ kimāśrayam |



ata eva dvitīyo'pi pakṣaḥ kṣīṇaḥ |sarveṣu dvayaṇukeṣvekasyāpi karturapravṛttau bahūnāṃ sutarāmapravṛtteḥ |



tṛtīyastu pakṣo yadi bhaved tadā svasvavyāpāraviṣayamātropādānādyabhijñatve'pi naikaḥ kaścit sarvajñaḥ sidhyati | na ca jñānaṃ sattāmātreṇa katipayātīndriyadarśanavat sarvārthagrahaṇaṃ yena tadabhedāt prastutaparamāṇūvat sarvasyaivāviśeṣeṇa grahaṇāt sarvajñatā syāt | anumānato hi katipayātīndriyadarśane siddhe'pīśvarasya tatkāraṇayogitvaṃ niścīyate | na tu jñānasattāmātreṇa prakārāntareṇeti niścaya iti kutaḥ sarvajñatā |



nanvatīndriyaṃ paramāṇvādikaṃ jānato na kathaṃ sārvajñyamiti cet | tat kimidānīmasarvadarśitveṣvatīndriyadarśanamātreṇa sarvajñatāpratyāśā | evameveti cet | hanta yadi nāma nyāyavihastena tvayā īdṛśo hastasamāracitaḥ sarvajñaḥ paribhāvitastathāpyanyeṣāmapāradūradeśakālavartināṃ dvayaṇukādīnāmupādānādiṣu januṣāndhaprakhyasya paramapuruṣārthāvedino vā lokaiḥ prāmāṇikaiśca nāsya sārvajñyamanumanyate ||



asmākantu nātīndriyadarśimātre pradveṣaḥ | evaṃ ca karturekatvāsiddhau vyatirekyapi heturasamarthaḥ viśveṣāmekasya karturasiddhau tadupādānādyabhijñabhāvasyā siddhatvāt | yaśca yanmātrakāraḥ sa tanmātropādānādyabhijño bhavanna sarvajñaḥ | anekāśrayeṇāpi upādānādyabhijñasāmānyasya caritārthatvāt | tadevamupādānādyabhijñapuruṣamātrasiddhāvapi naikatvasarvajñatvādiviśiṣṭapuruṣaviśeṣasiddhiḥ | puruṣamātre ca siddhasādhanamuktam | buddhimanmātrapūrvakatāmicchatāmupādānādyabhijñabuddhimatpūrvakatve sādhye kathaṃ siddhasādhanamiti cet | na tadapekṣayā siddhasādhyatāyā janitatvāt kevalamasiddhoddhāre'bhimate viśeṣe siddhe'pi naiyāyikasyāpi nābhimatasiddhiriti brūmaḥ ||



saugatasya tāvadaniṣṭasiddhiriti cet, na, svābhimatasādhyasādhanenaiva hi parasyāniṣṭamapi sādhanīyam | anyathā mātṛśokasmaraṇādināpi tadaniṣṭasiddhiḥ syāditi | asya saṃgrahaḥ



pareṣṭasiddhirnapareṣṭabādhakaṃ

prasādhane vedanayatnamātrayoḥ |

ananvayo'bhīṣṭaviśeṣasādhane

vipakṣasandehasahantu sādhanam ||

sādhyacintādhikārastṛtīyaḥ ||



evamanye'pi hetavo yathāyogamabhyuhya dūṣaṇīyāḥ | tadevaṃ tāvadīśvarasya sadvyavahāro niṣiddhaḥ | asadvyavahārārthantu tallakṣaṇavilakṣaṇakṣaṇabhaṅgasādhakaṃ sattādisādhanameva draṣṭavyamiti ||

vyāpi mohatimirapratirodhi |

ratnakīrtiracanāmalaramya
