evaṃ mayā śrutam | ekasmin samaye bhagavān rājagṛhe viharati sma gṛdhrakūṭe parvate mahatā bhikṣusaṃghena sārdhamardhatrayodaśabhirbhikṣusahasraiḥ saṃbahulaiśca bodhisattvamahāsattvaiḥ | athāyuṣmān śāriputro yena maitreyasya bodhisattvasya mahāsattvasya caṃkramaḥ, tenopasamakramīt | upasaṃkramya anyonyaṃ saṃmodanīyāṃ kathāṃ bahuvidhāṃ vyatisārayitvā ubhau śilātale upāviśatām ||



athāyuṣmān śāriputro maitreyaṃ bodhisattvaṃ mahāsattvametadavocat-adyātra śālistambamavalokya maitreya bhagavatā bhikṣubhyaḥ sūtramidamuktam-yo bhikṣavaḥ pratītyasamutpādaṃ paśyati, sa dharmaṃ paśyati | yo dharmaṃ paśyati, sa buddhaṃ paśyati | ityuktvā bhagavāṃstūṣṇīṃ babhūvaṃ | atha maitreya sugatoktasūtrāntasya arthaḥ katamaḥ ? pratītyasamutpādaḥ katamaḥ ? dharma katamaḥ ? buddhaḥ katamaḥ ? kathaṃ pratītyasamutpādaṃ paśyan dharmaṃ paśyati ? kathaṃ dharmaṃ paśyan buddhaṃ paśyati ?



evamukte maitreyo bodhisattvo mahāsattvaḥ āyuṣmantaṃ śāradvatīputrametadavocat-atra yaduktaṃ bhadanta śāriputra bhagavatā dharmasvāminā sarvajñena-yo bhikṣavaḥ pratītyasamutpādaṃ paśyati, sa dharmaṃ paśyati | yo dharmaṃ paśyati, sa buddhaṃ paśyati iti, tatra katamaḥ pratītyasamutpādo nāma ? pratītyasamutpādo nāma yadidam-asmin sati idaṃ bhavati, asyotpādādidamutpadyate | yaduta avidyāpratyayāḥ saṃskārāḥ | saṃskārapratyayaṃ vijñānam | vijñānapratyayaṃ nāmarūpam | nāmarūpapratyayaṃ ṣaḍāyatanam | ṣaḍāyatanapratyayaḥ sparśaḥ | sparśapratyayā vedanā | vedanāpratyayā tṛṣṇā | tṛṣṇāpratyayamupādānam | upādānapratyayo bhavaḥ | bhavapratyayā jāti | jātipratyayā jarāmaraṇaśokaparidevaduḥkhadaurmanasyopāyāsāḥ saṃbhavanti | evamasya kevalasya mahato duḥkhaskandhasya samudayo bhavati | tatra avidyānirodhāt saṃskāranirodhaḥ | saṃskāranirodhādvijñānanirodhaḥ | vijñānanirodhānnāmarūpanirodhaḥ | nāmarūpanirodhāt ṣaḍāyatananirodhaḥ | ṣaḍāyatananirodhāt sparśanirodhaḥ | sparśanirodhāt vedanānirodhaḥ | vedanānirodhāt tṛṣṇānirodhaḥ | tṛṣṇānirodhādupādānanirodhaḥ | upādānanirodhādbhavanirodhaḥ | bhavanirodhājjātinirodhaḥ | jātinirodhājjarāmaraṇaśokaparidevaduḥkhadaurmanasyopāyāsā nirudhyante | evamasya kevalasya mahato duḥkhaskandhasya nirodho bhavati | ayamucyate pratītyasamutpādo bhagavatā ||



katamo dharmaḥ ? āryāṣṭāṅgiko mārgaḥ | tadyathā-samyagdṛṣṭiḥ samyaksaṃkalpaḥ samyagvāk samyakkarmāntaḥ samyagājīvaḥ samyagvyāyāmaḥ samyaksmṛtiḥ samyaksamādhiḥ | ayamukto bhagavatā āryāṣṭāṅgiko mārgaḥ phalalābhanirvāṇaikasaṃgṛhīto dharmaḥ ||



tatra katamo buddho bhagavān ? yaḥ sarvadharmāvabodhādbuddha ucyate, sa āryaprajñānetraḥ dharmakāyasamanvitaḥ śaikṣāśaikṣadharmānimān paśyati ||



tatra kathaṃ pratītyasamutpādaṃ paśyati ? ihoktaṃ bhagavatā-ya imaṃ pratītyasamutpādaṃ satatasamitam, ajīvaṃ nirjīvaṃ yathāvadaviparītamajātamabhūtamakṛtamasaṃskṛtamapratighamanālambanaṃ śivamabhayamanāhāryamavyayamavyupaśamasvabhāvaṃ paśyati, (sa dharmaṃ paśyati) | yastu evaṃ dharmaṃ satatasamitamajīvaṃ nirjīvaṃ yathāvadaviparītamajātamabhūtamakṛtamasaṃskṛtamapratighamanālambanaṃ śivamanāhāryamavyayamavyupaśamasvabhāvaṃ paśyati, so'nuttaradharmaśarīraṃ buddhaṃ paśyati | āryadharmābhisamaye samyagjñānopanayenaiva ||



pratītyasamutpāda iti kasmāducyate ? sahetukaḥ sapratyayo nāhetuko nāpratyayaḥ, tasmāt pratītyasamutpāda ityucyate | tatra bhagavatā pratītyasamutpādalakṣaṇaṃ saṃkṣepeṇoktamidaṃpratyayatāphalam | utpādādvā tathāgatānāmanutpādādvā sthitaiveṣā dharmāṇāṃ dharmatā yāvadyaiṣā dharmatā dharmasthititā dharmaniyāmatā pratītyasamutpādasamatā tathatā aviparītatathatā ananyatathatā bhūtatā satyatā aviparītatā aviparyayatā iti ||



atha ca punarayaṃ pratītyasamutpādo dvābhyāṃ kāraṇābhyāmutpadyate | katamābhyāṃ dvābhyām ? yadidaṃ hetūpanibandhataḥ pratyayopanibandhataśca | so'pi dvividho draṣṭavyaḥ-bāhyaśca ādhyātmikaśca | tatra bāhyasya pratītyasamutpādasya hetūpanibandhaḥ katamāḥ ? yadidaṃ bījādaṅkuraḥ | aṅkurātpatram | patrātkāṇḍam | kāṇḍānnālam | nālādgaṇḍaḥ | gaṇḍādgarbham | garbhācchūkaḥ | śūkātpuṣpam | puṣpāt phalam | asati bīje aṅkuro na bhavati, yāvadasati puṣpe phalaṃ na bhavati | sati tu bīje aṅkurasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati, evaṃ yāvat sati puṣpe phalasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati | tatra bījasya naivaṃ bhavati-ahamaṅkuramabhinirvartayāmīti | aṅkurasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ bījenābhinirvartita iti | evaṃ yāvat puṣpasya naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ phalamabhinirvartayāmīti | phalasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ puṣpeṇābhinirvartitamiti | atha punaḥ bīje sati aṅkurasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati prādurbhāvaḥ | evaṃ yāvat puṣpe sati phalasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati prādurbhāvaḥ | evaṃ bāhyasya pratītyasamutpādasya hetūpanibandho draṣṭavyaḥ ||



kathaṃ bāhyasya pratītyasamutpādasya pratyayopanibandho draṣṭavyaḥ ? ṣaṇṇāṃ dhātūnā samudāyāt | katameṣāṃ ṣaṇṇāṃ samavāyāt ? yadidaṃ pṛthivyaptejovāyvākāśaṛtudhātusamavāyādbāhyasya pratītyasamutpādasya pratyayopanibandho draṣṭavyaḥ | tatra pṛthivīdhāturbījasya saṃdhāraṇakṛtyaṃ karoti | abdhāturbījaṃ snehayati | tejodhāturbījaṃ paripācayati | vāyudhāturbījamabhinirharati | ākāśadhāturbījasyānāvaraṇakṛtyaṃ karotīti | ṛturapi bījasya pariṇāmanākṛtyaṃ karoti | asatsu eṣu pratyayeṣu bījādaṅkurasyābhinirvṛttirna bhavati | yadā bāhyaśca pṛthivīdhāturavikalo bhavati, evamaptejovāyvākāśaṛtudhātavaścāvikalā bhavanti, tataḥ savaṣāṃ samavāyādbīje nirudhyamāne aṅkurasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati | tatra pṛthivīdhātornaivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ bījasya saṃdhāraṇakṛtyaṃ karomīti | evamabdhātorapi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ bījaṃ snehayāmīti | tejodhātorapi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ bījaṃ paripācayāmīti | vāyudhātorapi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ bījamabhinirharāmīti | ākāśadhātorapi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ bījasyānāvaraṇakṛtyaṃ karomīti | ṛtorapi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ bījasya pariṇāmanākṛtyaṃ karomīti | bījasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ bījaṃ (aṅkuraṃ?) abhinirvartayāmīti | aṅkurasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahamebhiḥ pratyayairabhinirvartita iti | atha punaḥ satsu eteṣu pratyayeṣu bīje nirudhyamāne aṅkurasyābhinirvṛttiebhavati | evaṃ yāvat puṣpe sati phalasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati | sa ca aṅkuro na svayaṃkṛto na parakṛto nobhayakṛto neśvarakṛto na kālapariṇāmito na prakṛtisaṃbhūto ( na caikakāraṇādhīno) nāpyahetusamutpannaḥ | atha punaḥ pṛthivyaptejovāyvākāśaṛtudhātusamavāyād bīje nirudhyamāne aṅkurasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati | evaṃ bāhyasya pratītyasamutpādasya pratyayopanibandho draṣṭavyaḥ ||



tatra bāhyaḥ pratītyasamutpādaḥ pañcabhirākārairdraṣṭavyaḥ | katamaiḥ pañcabhiḥ ? na śāśvatataḥ, nocchedataḥ, na saṃkrāntitaḥ, parīttahetuto vipulaphalābhinirvṛttitaḥ, tatsadṛśānuprabandhataśca | kathaṃ na śāśvatata iti ? yasmādanyo'ṅkuraḥ anyadbījam | na ca ya evāṅkuraḥ tadeva bījam | na ca niruddhādbījādaṅkura utpadyate nāpyaniruddhāt | bījaṃ punarnirudhyate, tadaivāṅkuraścotpadyate | tasmānna śāśvatataḥ | kathaṃ nocchedataḥ ? na ca pūrvaniruddhād bījādaṅkuro niṣpadyate | nāpyaniruddhāt | api ca bījaṃ ca nirudhyate, tasminneva samaye aṅkura utpadyate tulādaṇḍonnāmāvanāmavat | ato nocchedataḥ || kathaṃ na saṃkrāntitaḥ ? visadṛśo bījādaṅkura iti | ato na saṃkrāntitaḥ || kathaṃ parīttahetuto vipulaphalābhinirvṛttitaḥ ? parīttaṃ bījamupyate, vipulaphalamabhinirvartayatīti | ataḥ parīttahetuto vipulaphalābhinirvṛttitaḥ || kathaṃ tatsadṛśānuprabandhataḥ ? yādṛśaṃ bījamupyate, tādṛśaṃ phalamabhinirvartayatīti | atastatsadṛśānuprabandhataśceti || evaṃ bāhyaḥ pratītyasamutpādaḥ pañcabhirākārairdraṣṭavyaḥ ||



evamādhyātmiko'pi pratītyasamutpādo dvābhyāṃ kāraṇābhyāmutpadyate | katamābhyāṃ dvābhyām ? yadidaṃ hetūpanibandhataḥ pratyayopanibandhataśca | tatrādhyātmikasya pratītyasamutpādasya hetūpanibandhaḥ katamaḥ ? yadidamavidyāpratyayāḥ saṃskārāḥ, yāvajjātipratyayaṃ jarāmaraṇamiti | avidyā cennābhaviṣyat, naiva saṃskārāḥ prajñāsyante | evaṃ yāvajjātiścennābhaviṣyat, jarāmaraṇaṃ na prajñāsyate | atha satyāmavidyāyāṃ saṃskārāṇāmabhinirvṛttirbhavati | evaṃ yāvajjātyāṃ sattyāṃ jarāmaraṇasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati | tatra avidyāyā naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ saṃskārānabhinirvartayāmīti | saṃskārāṇāmapi naivaṃ bhavati-vayamavidyayā abhinirvatitā iti | evaṃ yāvajjāterapi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ jarāmaraṇamabhinirvartayāmīti | jarāmaraṇasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ jātyābhinirvartitamiti | atha ca satyāmavidyāyāṃ saṃskārāṇāmabhinirvṛttirbhavati prādurbhāvaḥ | evaṃ yāvajjātyāṃ satyāṃ jarāmaraṇasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati prādurbhāvaḥ | evamādhyātmikasya pratītyasamutpādasya hetūpanibandho draṣṭavyaḥ ||



kathamādhyātmikasya pratītyasamutpādasya pratyayopanibandho draṣṭavyaḥ ? ṣaṇṇāṃ dhātūnāṃ samavāyāt | katameṣāṃ ṣaṇṇāṃ dhātūnāṃ samavāyāt ? yadidaṃ pṛthivyaptejovāyvākāśavijñānadhātūnāṃ samavāyādādhyātmikasya pratītyasamutpādasya pratyayopanibandho draṣṭavyaḥ | tatra ādhyātmikasya pratītyasamutpādasya pṛthivīdhātuḥ katamaḥ ? yo'yaṃ kāyasya saṃśleṣataḥ kaṭhinabhāvamabhinirvartayati, ayamucyate pṛthivīdhātuḥ | yaḥ kāyasya anuparigrahakṛtyaṃ karoti, ayamucyate'bdhātuḥ | yaṃ kāyasya aśitapītabhakṣitaṃ paripācayati, ayamucyate tejodhātuḥ | yaṃ kāyasya āśvāsapraśvāsakṛtyaṃ karoti, ayamucyate vāyudhātuḥ | yaṃ kāyasyāntaḥśauṣiryamabhinirvartayati, ayamucyate ākāśadhātuḥ | ya kāyasya nāmarūpāṅkuramabhinirvartayati, naḍakalāpayogena, pañcavijñānakāyasaṃyuktaṃ sāsravaṃ ca manovijñānam, ayamucyate vijñānadhātuḥ | tatra asatāmeṣāṃ pratyayānāṃ kāyasyotpattirnaṃ bhavati | yadā ādhyātmikaḥ pṛthivīdhāturavikalo bhavati, evamaptejovāyvākāśavijñānadhātavaśca avikalā bhavanti, tataḥ sarveṣāṃ samavāyāt kāyasyābhinirvṛttirbhavati | tatra pṛthivīdhātornaivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ kāyasya saṃśleṣataḥ kaṭhinabhāvamabhinirvartayāmīti | abdhātornaivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ kāyasya anuparigrahakṛtyaṃ karomīti | tejodhātorapi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ kāyasya aśitapītabhakṣitaṃ paripācayāmīti | vāyudhātornaivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ kāyasya āśvāsapraśvāsakṛtyaṃ karomīti | ākāśadhātornaivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ kāyasyāntaḥśauṣiryamabhinirvartayāmīti | vijñānadhātornaivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ kāyasya nāmarūpamabhinirvartayāmīti | kāyasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahamebhiḥ pratyayairjanita iti | atha ca satsu eṣu pratyayeṣu kāyasyotpattirbhavati ||



tatra pṛthivīdhāturnātmā na sattvo na jīvo na jantuḥ na manajo na mānavo na strī na pumān na napuṃsakaṃ na cāhaṃ na mama na cānyasya kasyacit | evamabdhātustejodhāturvāyudhāturākāśadhāturvijñānadhātuḥ nātmā na sattvo na jīvo na jantuḥ na manujo na mānavo na strī na pumān na napuṃsakaṃ na cāhaṃ na mama na cānyasya kasyacit ||



tatra avidyā katamā ? yā eṣāmeva ṣaṇṇāṃ dhātūnāmekasaṃjñā piṇḍasaṃjñā nityasaṃjñā dhruvasaṃjñā śāśvatasaṃjñā sukhasaṃjñā ātmasaṃjñā sattvajīvajantupoṣapuruṣapudgalasaṃjñā manujamānavasaṃjñā ahaṃkāramamakārasaṃjñā, evamādi vividhamajñānam | iyamucyate avidyeti | evamavidyāyāṃ satyāṃ viṣayeṣu rāgadveṣamohāḥ pravartante | tatra ye rāgadveṣamohā viṣayeṣu, amī (avidyāpratyayāḥ) saṃskārā ityucyante | vastuprativijñaptirvijñānam | vijñānasahabhuvaścatvāraḥ skandhā arūpiṇaḥ upādānākhyāḥ tannāma | rūpaṃ catvāri mahābhūtāni tāni copādāya rūpam | tacca nāma tacca rūpamaikadhyamabhisaṃkṣipya tannāmarūpam | nāmarūpasaṃniśritāni indriyāṇi ṣaḍāyatanam | trayāṇāṃ dharmāṇāṃ saṃnipātaḥ sparśaḥ | sparśānubhavo vedanā | vedanādhyavasānaṃ tṛṣṇā | tṛṣṇāvaipulyamupādānam | upādānanirjātaṃ punarbhavajanakaṃ karma bhavaḥ | bhavahetukaḥ skandhaprādurbhāvo jātiḥ | jātasya skandhaparipāko jarā | jīrṇasya skandhasya vināśo maraṇam | mriyamāṇasya saṃmūḍhasya sābhiṣvaṅgasya antaḥparidāhaḥ śokaḥ | śokotthamālapanaṃ paridevaḥ | pañcavijñānakāyasaṃyuktamasātamanubhavanaṃ duḥkham | manasikārasaṃyuktaṃ mānasaṃ duḥkhaṃ daurmanasyam | ye cāpi anye evamādayaḥ kleśāḥ, te upāyāsā iti ||



tatra mahāndhakārārthena avidyā | abhisaṃskārārthena saṃskārāḥ | vijñāpanārthena vijñānam | anyonyopastambhanārthena nāmarūpam | āyadvārārthena ṣaḍāyatanam | sparśanārthena sparśaḥ | anubhavanārthena vedanā | paritarṣaṇārthena tṛṣṇā | upādānarthena upādānam | punarbhavajananārthena bhavaḥ | skandhaprādurbhāvārthena jātiḥ | skandhaparipākārthena jarā | vināśārthena maraṇam | śocanārthena śokaḥ | vacanaparidevanārthena paridevaḥ | kāyasaṃpīḍanārthena duḥkham | cittasaṃpīḍanārthena daurmanasyam | upakleśārthena upāyāsāḥ ||



punaraparam-tattve'pratipattirmithyāpratipattirajñānamavidyā | evamavidyāyāṃ satyāṃ trividhāḥ saṃskārā abhinirvartante-puṇyopagā apuṇyopagā āneñjyopagāḥ | tatra puṇyopagānāṃ saṃskārāṇāṃ puṇyopagameva vijñānaṃ bhavati | apuṇyopagānāṃ saṃskārāṇāmapuṇyopagameva vijñānaṃ bhavati | āneñjyopagānāṃ saṃskārāṇāmāneñjyopagameva vijñānaṃ bhavati | idamucyate saṃskārapratyayaṃ vijñānamiti | vijñānasahabhuvaścatvāro'rūpiṇaḥ skandhā nāmarūpam | tadvijñānapratyayaṃ nāmarūpamucyate | nāmarūpavivṛddhyā ṣaḍbhirāyatanadvāraiḥ kṛtyakriyāḥ pravartante | tannāmarūpapratyayaṃ ṣaḍāyatanamityucyate | ṣaḍbhyaścāyatanebhyaḥ ṣaṭ sparśakāyāḥ pravartante | ayaṃ ṣaḍāyatanapratyayaḥ sparśa ityucyate | yajjātīyaḥ sparśo bhavati, tajjātīyā vedanā pravartate | iyamucyate sparśapratyayā vedaneti | yastāṃ vedanāṃ viśeṣeṇāsvādayati abhinandati adhyavasyati adhyavasāya tiṣṭhati, sā vedanāpratyayā tṛṣṇetyucyate | āsvādanābhinandanādhyavasānādhyavasāyasthānādātmapriyarūpasātarūpairviyogo mā bhūditi nityamaparityāgāya yaivaṃ prārthanā, idamucyate tṛṣṇāpratyayamupādānam | evaṃ prārthayamānaḥ punarbhavajanakaṃ karma samutthāpayati kāyena vācā manasā ca, sa upādānapratyayo bhava ityucyate | tatkarmanirjātānāṃ pañcaskandhānāmabhinirvṛttiryā, sā bhavapratyayā jātirityucyate | jātyābhinirvṛttānāṃ skandhānāmupacayanaparipākādvināśo bhavati, tadidaṃ jātipratyayaṃ jarāmaraṇamityucyate ||



evamayaṃ dvādaśāṅgaḥ pratītyasamutpādaḥ anyonyahetukaḥ anyonyapratyayaḥ | na nityo nānityo na saṃskṛto nāsaṃskṛto nāhetuko nāpratyayo na vedayitā na kṣayadharmo na vināśadharmo na nirodhadharmo'nādikālapravṛtto'nucchinno'pravartate nadīsrotavat ||



yadyayaṃ dvādaśāṅgaḥ pratītyasamutpādo'nyonyahetuko'nyonyapratyayaḥ, na nityo nānityo na saṃskṛto nāsaṃskṛto nāhetuko nāpratyayo na vedayitā na kṣayadharmo na vināśadharmo na nirodhadharmo'nādikālapravṛtto'nucchinno'nupravartate nadīsrotavat, atha ca imānyasya dvādaśāṅgasya pratītyasamutpādasya catvāri aṅgāni saṃghātakriyāyai hetutvena pravartante | katamāni catvāri ? yaduta avidyā tṛṣṇā karma vijñānaṃ ca | tatra vijñānaṃ bījasvabhāvatvena hetuḥ | karma kṣetrasvabhāvena hetuḥ | avidyā tṛṣṇā ca kleśasvabhāvatvena hetuḥ | tatra karmakleśā vijñānabījaṃ janayanti | tatra karma vijñānabījasya kṣetrakāryaṃ karoti | tṛṣṇā vijñānabījaṃ snehayati | avidyā vijñānabījamavakirati | asatāmeṣāṃ pratyayānāṃ vijñānabījasyābhinirvṛttirna bhavati | tatra karmaṇo naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ vijñānabījasya kṣetrakāryaṃ karomīti | tṛṣṇāyā api naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ vijñānabījaṃ snehayāmīti | avidyāyā api naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ vijñānabījamavakirāmīti | vijñānabījasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahamebhiḥ pratyayairjanitamiti | atha ca vijñānabījaṃ karmakṣetrapratiṣṭhitaṃ tṛṣṇāsnehābhiṣyanditamavidyayā svavakīrṇaṃ virohati | tatratatra upapattyāyatanapratisaṃdhau mātuḥkukṣau nāmarūpāṅkuramabhinirvartayati | sa ca nāmarūpāṅkuro na svayaṃkṛto na parakṛto nobhayakṛto neśvarakṛto na kālapariṇāmito na prakṛtisaṃbhūto na caikakāraṇādhīno nāpyahetusamutpannaḥ | atha ca mātāpitṛsaṃyogadṛtusamavāyādanyeṣāṃ ca pratyayānāṃ samavāyāt tatra tatra āsvādaviddhaṃ vijñānabījamupapattyāyatanapratisaṃghau mātuḥ kukṣau nāmarūpāṅkuramabhinirvartayati, asvāmikeṣu dharmeṣu amameṣu aparigraheṣu ākāśasameṣu māyālakṣaṇasvabhāveṣu hetupratyayānāmavaikalyāt | tadyathā-pañcabhiḥ kāraṇaiḥ cakṣurvijñānamutpadyate | katamaiḥ pañcabhiḥ ? yaduta cakṣuḥ pratītya rūpaṃ ca ālokaṃ ca ākāśaṃ ca tajjamanasikāraṃ ca pratītya utpadyate cakṣurvijñānam | tatra cakṣurvijñānasya cakṣurāśrayakṛtyaṃ karoti | rūpaṃ cakṣurvijñānasya ālambanakṛtyaṃ karoti | ālokaḥ avabhāsakṛtyaṃ karoti | ākāśamanāvaraṇakṛtyaṃ karoti | tajjamanasikāraḥ samanvāhārakṛtyaṃ karoti | asatāmeṣāṃ pratyayānāṃ cakṣurvijñānaṃ notpadyate | yadā tu cakṣurādhyātmikamāyatanamavikalaṃ bhavati, evaṃ rūpālokākāśatajjamanasikārāśca avikalā bhavanti, tataḥ sarveṣāṃ samavāyāccakṣurvijñānamutpadyate | tatra cakṣuṣo naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ cakṣurvijñānasyāśrayakṛtyaṃ karomīti | rūpasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ cakṣurvijñānasya ālambanakṛtyaṃ karomīti | ālokasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ cakṣurvijñānasya avabhāsakṛtyaṃ karomīti | ākāśasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ cakṣurvijñānasya anāvaraṇakṛtyaṃ karomīti | tajjamanasikārasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahaṃ cakṣurvijñānasya samanvāhārakṛtyaṃ karomīti | cakṣurvijñānasyāpi naivaṃ bhavati-ahamebhiḥ pratyayairjanitamiti | atha ca punaḥ satsu eṣu pratyayeṣu cakṣurvijñānasyotpattirbhavati | evaṃ śeṣāṇāmindriyāṇāṃ yathāyogaṃ yojyam ||



tatra na kaściddharmo'smāllokāt paralokaṃ saṃkrāmati | asti ca karmaphalaprativijñaptiḥ, hetupratyayānāmavaikalyāt | tadyathā supariśuddhe ādarśamaṇḍale mukhapratibimbakaṃ dṛśyate | na ca tatra ādarśamaṇḍale mukhaṃ saṃkrāmati | asti ca mukhaprativijñaptiḥ, hetupratyayānāmavaikalyāt | evamasmāllokāt na kaścit cyutaḥ, nāpyanyatropapannaḥ | asti ca karmaphalaprativijñaptiḥ, hetupratyayānāmavaikalyāt | tadyathā candramaṇḍalaṃ catvāriṃśadyojanaśatamūrdhvaṃ vrajati | atha ca punaḥ parītte'bhyudakabhājane candrasya pratibimbaṃ dṛśyate | na ca candramaṇḍalaṃ tasmātsthānāccyutam, parītte udakasya bhājane saṃkrāntaṃ bhavati| asti ca candramaṇḍalaprativijñaptiḥ, hetupratyayānāmavaikalyāt | evamasmāllokānna kaścit cyutaḥ, nāpyanyatropapannaḥ | asti ca karmaphalaprativijñaptiḥ, hetupratyayānāmavaikalyāt ||



tadyathā agnirupādānapratyaye sati jvalati, upādānavaikalyānna jvalati, evameva karmakleśajanitaṃ vijñānabījaṃ tatra tatra upapattyāyatanapratisaṃghau mātuḥ kukṣau nāmarūpāṅkuramabhinirvartayati, asvāmikeṣu dharmeṣu amameṣu aparigraheṣu ākāśasameṣu māyālakṣaṇasvabhāveṣu hetupratyayānāmavaikalyāt | evaṃ ādhyātmikasya pratītyasamutpādasya pratyayopanibandho draṣṭavyaḥ ||



tatra ādhyātmikaḥ pratītyasamutpādaḥ pañcabhirākārairdraṣṭavyaḥ | katamaiḥ pañcabhiḥ ? na śāśvatataḥ, nocchedataḥ, na saṃkrāntitaḥ, parīttahetuto vipulaphalābhinirvṛttataḥ, tatsadṛśānuprabandhataśceti | kathaṃ na śāśvatataḥ ? yasmādanye māraṇāntikāḥ skandhāḥ, anye aupapattyaṃśikāḥ skandhāḥ, na tu ya evaṃ māraṇāntikāḥ skandhāḥ, ta eva aupapattyaṃśikāḥ | api tu māraṇāntikāḥ skandhā nirudhyante, tasminneva ca samaye aupapattyaṃśikāḥ skandhāḥ prādurbhavanti | ato na śāśvatataḥ || kathaṃ nocchedataḥ? na ca pūrvaniruddheṣu māraṇāntikeṣu skandheṣu aupapattyaṃśikāḥ skandhāḥ prādurbhavanti, nāpyaniruddheṣu | api tu māraṇāntikāḥ skandhā nirudhyante, tasminneva ca samaye aupapattyaṃśikāḥ skandhāḥ prādurbhavanti tulādaṇḍonnāmāvanāmavat | ato nocchedataḥ || kathaṃ na saṃkrāntitaḥ ? visadṛśāḥ sattvanikāyāḥ sabhāgāyāṃ jātyāṃ jātimabhinirvartayanti | ato na saṃkrāntitaḥ | kathaṃ parīttahetuto vipulaphalābhinirvṛttitaḥ ? parīttaṃ karma kriyate, vipulaḥ phalavipāko'nubhūyate | ataḥ parīttahetuto vipulaphalābhinirvṛttitaḥ || kathaṃ tatsadṛśānuprabandhataḥ ? yathāvedanīyaṃ karma kriyate, tathāvedanīyo vipāko'nubhūyate | atastatsadṛśānuprabandhataśca || evamādhyātmikaḥ pratītyasamutpādaḥ pañcabhirākārairdraṣṭavyaḥ ||



yaḥ kaścid bhadanta śāriputra imaṃ pratītyasamutpādaṃ bhagavatā samyakpraṇītamevaṃ yathābhūtaṃ samyakprajñayā satatasamitamajīvaṃ nirjīvaṃ yathāvadaviparītamajātamabhūtamakṛtamasaṃskṛtamapratighamanālambaṃ śivamabhayamanāhāryamavyayamavyupaśamasvabhāvaṃ paśyati, asataḥ tucchataḥ riktataḥ asārataḥ rogataḥ gaṇḍataḥ śalyataḥ aghataḥ anityataḥ duḥkhataḥ śūnyataḥ anātmataḥ samanupaśyati, na sa pūrvāntaṃ pratisarati-kiṃ nvahamabhūvamatīte'dhvani, kathaṃ nvahamabhūvamatīte'dhvani iti | aparāntaṃ vā na punaḥ pratisarati-kiṃ nvahaṃ bhaviṣyāmyanāgate'dhvani, āhosvinna bhaviṣyāmyanāgate'dhvani, ko nu bhaviṣyāmyanāgate'dhvani, kathaṃ nu bhaviṣyāmyanāgate'dhvani iti | pratyutpannaṃ vā punarnaṃ pratisarati-kiṃ nvidam, kathaṃ nvidam, ke santaḥ ke bhaviṣyāmaḥ, ime sattvāḥ kuta āgatāḥ, itaścyutāḥ kutra gamiṣyantīti | yāni ekeṣāṃ śramaṇabrāhmaṇānāṃ pṛthag loke dṛṣṭigatāni bhaviṣyanti, tadyathā-ātmavādapratisaṃyuktāni sattvavādapratisaṃyuktāni jīvavādapratisaṃyuktāni pudgalavādapratisaṃyuktāni kautukamaṅgalavādapratisaṃyuktāni unmiñjitāni nimiñjitāni ca, tānyasya tasmin samaye prahīṇāni bhavanti parijñātāni samucchinnamūlāni tālamastakavadanābhāsagatāni āyatyāmanutpādānirodhadharmāṇi ||



yo bhadanta śāriputra evaṃvidhadharmakṣāntisamanvitaḥ pratītyasamutpādaṃ samyagavagacchati, tasya tathāgato'rhan samyaksaṃbuddho vidyācaraṇasaṃpannaḥ sugato lokavit puruṣadamyasārathiranattaraḥ śāstā devamanuṣyāṇāṃ buddho bhagavān samyaksaṃbodhiṃ vyākaroti-samyaksaṃbuddho buddho bhaviṣyasīti | maitreyeṇa bodhisattvena mahāsattvena evamuktam ||



atha khalvāyuṣmān śāriputro maitreyasya bodhisattvasya mahāsattvasya bhāṣitamabhinandya anupramodya utthāyāsanāt prakrāntaḥ | prakrāntāste ca bhikṣavaḥ ||
