sarva eva hi viśiṣṭo janaḥ  śāstrārambhe sveṣṭadevatāstutiṃ kṛtavān | tathāyamevāryadharmottaraḥ | sadācārānuvṛttimātmanaḥ khyāpayansveṣṭadevatāstuteśca puṇyopacayaṃ tataśca śāstrasyāvipte parisamāptiṃ vyākhyāyāḥ śrotṛṇaṃ stutipuraḥsarayā pravṛttyā puṇyātiśayotpādanātpārārthyaṃ cālocya buddhasya bhagavataḥ stutimārabdhavān jayantītyādi | anena ślokena buddhasya bhagavata eva pūjā stotrataḥ | nānyeṣāṃ nirdiṣṭaguṇodbhavāt | stotramapi svaparārthasaṃpattyai saṃbhavatīti | pūrvaṃ svārthasaṃpadaṃ bhagavato darśayati jayanti jātivyasanetyādinā sugataparyattena manastamastānavetyādinā parārthasaṃpadam | jayanti jayaṃ kurvanti vāca iti saṃbandhaḥ | kasya vāca ityāha | suśabdo'tra śobhane'tiśaye'punarāvṛttau ca vartate'nekārthatvānnipātānām | tadayamarthaḥ | śobhanaṃ gataḥ sugataḥ sucaritavat | atiśayena gataḥ sugataḥ suparipūrṇaghaṭavat | apunarāvṛtyā gataḥ  sugataḥ pradīpavat | kiṃviśiṣṭasya tasyetyāha rāgādyarāteriti | rāgaśaktirādau sa ādiryeṣāṃ dveṣādīnāṃ te rāgādayo bhavatti kleśāḥ | teṣā marātiḥ śatruḥ | yato bhagavatā sarvakleśā niḥśeṣaṃ nirdagdhā yata eva rāgādyarātirbhagavānata eva jagatastraidhātukajīvalokasya vijetā | anena svārthasaṃpatsopāyā darśitā | kiṃviśiṣṭasya jagato vijeturityāha jātivyasanetyādi | vyasanamanarthasaṃjananam | jātau vyasanamiti saptamīti yogavibhāgātsamāsaḥ | tatrābhilāṣa iti yāvat | devo'haṃ syāṃ manuṣyo'haṃ syāmityabhilāṣaḥ | yadvā vividhamanekaprakāreṇāsyate kṣipyata iti vyasanam | sāmānyena karmasādhanam | paścājjātiśabdena viśeṣaṇasamāsaḥ | jātireva vyasanam  | jātyā vyasanaṃ viśiṣyate | tena jātiśabdasya viśeṣaṇatvātpūrvanipātaḥ | jātivyasanasya prabandhaḥ pravāhaḥ | tasya prasūtiḥ prasavamutpattiḥ | tasyā hetuḥ kāraṇaṃ jagattasya jagato vijeturiti | tatrāyaṃ samudāyārthaḥ | yasmācchobhanādinā gato bhagavānata eva rāgādyāratiḥ yata eva nirdagdhakleśo'to jagato vijeteti | kiṃviśiṣṭā vāco jayattītyāha manastamaityādi | manaso vikalpavijñānasya | tṛṣṇāvidyā tama eva | tama iti kṛtvā na gamatayā tamo'ndhakāro ghaṭādipratibandhaṃ karoti tathāvidyāpi viparītagrāhitayā pratibandhaṃ karoti | tanorbhāvastānavam | igattācca ladhupūrvādityaṇ | manastamasi tānavaṃ ṣaṣṭhīsamāso vā vacanapramātho draṣṭavyaḥ | manastamastānavamādadhānāstanutvaṃ kurvānāḥ sakalajanasya śruticittābhāvanākrameṇa sugatasya vācaḥ sūtrābhidharmavinayatripiṭakasvabhāvā jayatti | jayaḥ punastāsāṃ tīrthikaśāstrābhibhavalakṣaṇaḥ | yasmādbhagavatpravacane pramāṇaparicchinna upāyo vimuktilakṣaṇa upeyaśca nirdiśyate teṣāṃ cāgama upāyopeyayoḥ pramāṇarahitatvāttato bhagavata eva vāco jayatti nānyeṣāmiti bhagavataḥ stutiḥ |



 



samyagjñānetyādinā vinītadevavyākhyāṃ dūṣayati yato'bhidheyasyaiva prayojanaṃ na samyagjñānavyutpatteḥ śāstraprayojanasya prayojanam | sarvapuruṣārthasiddhirvyutpatteḥ samyagjñānaparijñānasyaiva prayojanam | sarvapuruṣārthasiddhiḥ prayojanaṃ yena syātprayojanaprayojanaṃ tena ca prayojanaprayojanamākhyātamiti dūṣitaṃ sāmarthyāt | atha kasmātprakaraṇasyābhidheyaprayojanami tyevamuktaṃ na punaḥ prakaraṇasya śarīraprayojanamityāha dvividhaṃ hītyāhi | yato dvividhaṃ prakaraṇasya śarīraṃ prakaraṇasya svabhāvaḥ tasmādabhidheyeti viśeṣaṇaṃ kṛtam | nanu yathābhidheyasya prayojanaṃ cintyate tathā śabdasyāpi kimiti na cintyata ityāha tatretyādi | tatpratipattya ityabhidheyapratipattaye | saṃdarbho racanāviśeṣaḥ | apiśabdādarthasaṃdarbho'pi gṛhyate | parīkṣeti parīkṣyate'nayeti parīkṣā śāstramucyate | anenetyādivākyena | yasmādityādinā samudāpārthaṃ darśayati atretyādivākyena | nanu ca yatrābhidheyaprayojanaṃ prekṣāvatāṃ pravṛttāvaṅgaṃ tathā saṃbandhādīnyapi | atastāni kimiti na kathyanta ityāha asminnabhidheyaprayojane kathite tānyapi sāmarthyātkathitāni bhavantītyarthaḥ | abhidheya eva bhāgoṃ'śaḥ saṃbandhādirāśeḥ | tasya prayojanaṃ kathayatītyarthaḥ | taddarśayati | abhidheyaprayojanameva sākṣādvācyatayā nirdiśyate abhidheyādīni tu tadviśeṣaṇatayā | codakena pradhānavācyatayābhidheyādīnyipaśyatā coditam | sāmarthyāyātatayā prarihṛtaṃ siddhāntavādinā | na caikena vākyenārthatrayaṃ sākṣācchakyate darśayitumiti darśayati natvidamityādi | ekaṃ tvityādi vākyaṃ prādhānyenaikaṃ vadadabhidheyavyutpattiprayojanasaṃbandhārthatrayaṃ pratipādayati tatra tadityādinā | apodvāreṇāvayavārthaṃ darśayati tatretyādivākye | nanu ca tadyutpattiḥ kriyata ityevaṃ yujyate vaktuṃ kimiti tadyutpādyata iti ṇicā nirdeśa iti | tatphalamāha prayojanaṃ cātretyādi | atreti prakaraṇe vakturiti śāstrakartuḥ śrotuśca prakaraṇakaraṇaśravaṇavyāpārasya prayojanaṃ cintyate | yasmāddvayorapi vaktṛśrotrostatra prakaraṇe prakaraṇakaraṇaśravaṇākhyo vyāpārau staḥ | kimiti punastayoḥ karaṇaśravaṇayoḥ prayojanaṃ cintyata ityāha tathāhītyādi | tata ācāryeṇetyādinā dvayorvyāpārasya prayojanaṃ darśayati yasmādanena samyagjñānaṃ vyutpādyata ityatra vākye vyutpattikriyāniṣpattau karaṇaśravaṇakriyādvayakartavyatayā praviṣṭam | tacca vyutpattikaraṇaṃ śāstrakārasyaiva nānyasyeti ṇicā nidarśitam | yasmātsamyagjñānaṃ vyutpādyamānāñśiṣyānprerayati vyutpāditaṃ samyagjñānaṃ vyutpadyadhvamityātmānaṃ vyutpādakaṃ kartumārabdhaṃ prakaraṇam | tasmādvaktureva karaṇavyāpārasya prayojanaṃ vyutpādanaṃ na bhājanādīnām | yadyapi tairvinā vyutpādanaṃ na bhavati tathāpi na tāni vyutpādakāni teṣāṃ śiṣyaviṣaye prerakatvābhāvāt | śiṣyaiścetyādi yasmācchiṣyā ācāryaprayuktāṃ vyutpattimātmanaḥ saṃbandhinīṃ kartumicchatti yataste pracodyāstasmāttatprakaraṇaṃ taiḥ śrūyata iti śravaṇasya prayojanaṃ vyutpādanam | etaccārthadvayaṃ ṇicā pratipāditam | anyathāsādharaṇavyāpāro vakturvyutpattau na darśitaḥ syāt śiṣyāṇaṃ ca śravaṇavyāpāraśca | yasmātsarva evaṃ prayojakaparatantro bhavati asati ṇici śiṣyā aprayojyāḥ ye cāprayojyāḥ te svatantrāḥ svatantrāṇāṃ cācāryaprayuktāṃ vyutpattimanicchatāṃ śravaṇabhāvātkathaṃ śravaṇavyāpārasya prayojanaṃ cintyata iti sthitam | nanu ca yathābhidheyavyutpādanaprayojanayorapoddhāreṇa pratipādakapadaṃ kathaṃ saṃbandhasyāpi kimiti na kathitamityāha saṃbandhapradarśanapadaṃ tvityādi | ayameva prakaraṇaviśeṣo laghūpāyatayā vakṣyamāṇayā nītyopāyo vyutpādanamupeyam | upāyopeyasaṃbandhaśca kāryakāraṇasaṃbandha eva | sa ca pratīyata iti na padāntareṇa kathitaḥ | tathā coktaṃ śāstraṃ prayojanaṃ caiva | saṃbandhasyāścayāduktau taduktyantargataḥ | tena bhinno noktaḥ prayojanāditi |



 



evamādivākyenābhidheyaprayojanādau kathite sati prāmāṇikānāṃ pravṛttau tadasaṃgatameveti manyamānaścodayati nanvityādinā | evaṃ manyate | yo hi prāmāṇikaḥ sa pramāṇe pravartate | na cādivākye prayojanādinā kathitena śāstraśravaṇātprāgvartate śāstraṃ ādivākyasyāprāmāṇyāt | aprāmāṇyaṃ cārthena sahāsaṃbandhācchabdasya | etairityabhidheyādibhiḥ | ārambhapradeśoktairiti prakaraṇasyaikadeśoktairādāvuktairityarthaḥ | ukteṣvityādi | evaṃ manyate | yadyasyāpramāṇaṃ prayojanapratipādakamādivacanaṃ tathāpi śāstrādau pratipādanīyaṃ arthasaṃśayajananārtham | yo hi samyagjñānārthī sa tathābhūta śāstrakarturādivākyaṃ śrutvā tatra saṃśete saṃśayācca pravartata iti tātparyam | ata eveti yata evādivākyenārthasaṃśayaḥ saṃśayācca pravṛttirata eva śāstrakāreṇaiva yujyate vaktuṃ nākhyānakartreti | tena yaduktaṃ kenacidyākhyānakārā eva prayojanādīni pratipādayiṣyantīti tatpratyuktam | utpaśyāma ityādinaitaddarśayati | yadyapi pramāṇaṃ nāsti mahatā prabandhane śāstrakaraṇātsaṃbhāvyata ityarthaḥ | nanu ca bādhakasādhakapramāṇābhāvātsamyagjñānavyutpattyathī vināpyādivacanena saṃśayānastatra pravartata iti kimādivākyena tatroktenetyāha anukteṣvityādi | evaṃ manyate | yo hyamūḍhastaṃ prati na kartavyameva | yo hi kākadattaparīkṣādiśāstraṃ dṛṣṭvā prayojanādirahitaṃ atrāpyaprayojanādīnsaṃbhāvayannanarthaṃ saṃśete anarthasaṃśayācca na pravartate taṃ pratyetatkathanasya prayojanam  | kathite ca vacane śāstrakāreṇa tadanurodhādvacanādarthasaṃśayo jāyate tataḥ pravartata ityarthaḥ | anarthasaṃśayo yaiḥ kāraṇairbhavati tannidarśayati niṣprayojanamityādinā | ato vā prakaraṇadanyasya prakaraṇasya laghutaropāyatāṃ saṃbhāvyāsya prakaraṇasyāsāratayā anupāyatā syādityarthaḥ |



 



evaṃ samudāyena vākyasyaṃ tātparyaṃ vyākhyāyāvayavārthaṃ darśayitumāha avisaṃvādakamityādi | avisaṃvādakaṃ jñānaṃ samyagjñānamiti bruvatā ṭīkākṛtārthāvabodhakaṃ  jñānaṃ mīmāṃsakaparikalpitamarthadarśanaṃ ca cārvākopakalpitamathāpi viparītaṃ jñānaṃ kaiścitparikalpitaṃ samyaktvena tannirastaṃ sarvaṃ eteṣāṃ samyagjñānalakṣaṇābhāvāt | yathā ca na tāni samyagjñānāni tathā svayaṃ ṭīkāyāmapahastitāni | ekasminnevārthe trayāṇāṃ jñānānāṃ pradarśakapravartakaprāpakabhedena prāmāṇyamiṣṭaṃ pareṇa | tannirākartumāha pradarśite cārtha ityādi | pradarśite cārtha prathamena darśakena jñānena yaddvitīyaṃ jñānaṃ tatraivārthe puruṣasya pravartakaṃ tṛtīyamapi tatraivārthe prāpakaṃ tato nādyādadhikaṃ prāpaṇayogyīkaraṇeneti tadeva pramāṇam | amumevārthaṃ samarthayati tathāhītyādinā | na janayannotpādayadarthaṃ svahetorevārthasyotpannatvāt | anena pravartakātprāpakasyābhedo darśitaḥ | pravartakasyāpi pradarśakādabhedaṃ darśayitumāha | yatpradarśakamādāvutpannamarthe jñānaṃ tadeva pravṛttiviṣayaṃ karoti pravṛttiviṣayayogyīkarotītyarthaḥ | na tu dvitīyaṃ jñānaṃ ādyenaiva pravṛttiviṣayayogyīkṛtatvāt | apiśabdaḥ  pūrvāpekṣaḥ | ata evetyādinā ācāryagranthe svamataṃ saṃvādayati | kuto'yaṃ labhyate yadā prathamaṃ darśayatyeva na pravartayati na prāpayati | dvitīyamapi pravartayatyeva na prāpayati | evaṃ satyanyatpradarśakapramāṇaṃ anyatpravartanādikaphalam | na caivam | tasmādyuktamuktam | nanu ca yadyapyarthādhigatireva pramāṇaphalaṃ tathāpi yāvaduttare pravartakaprāpakajñāne na bhavatastatrārthe tāvanna pramāṇavyāpāraparisamāptirityāha adhigata ityādi | evaṃ manyate | adhigate cārthe samāptaḥ pramāṇavyāpāra iti tayoḥ prāmāṇye kartavye'nupayogitvam | ato'pramāṇe te | kathaṃ samāptaḥ pramāṇavyāpāraḥ ko vāsāvityāha | svavyāpāraḥ svaviṣayaniścayajanakatvaṃ nāma | sa ca niścayaḥ prathamayā cārthādhigatvā kṛta iti samāpto vyāpārastāvataiva puruṣasya pravṛtteḥ  | ato dvitīyādīnāmatraivārthe'dhiko vyāpāro nāstīti | adhigatagantṛtvādaprāmāṇyamityarthaḥ | pravartitaḥ puruṣa iti pravartanayogyatvātpravartita ityucyate prāpaṇayogyatvātprāpitaḥ |evaṃ sāmānyena saṃvādakaṃ samyagjñānaṃ pratipādya viśeṣeṇa ca pratyakṣānumāṇe svavyāpāraṃ kurvatī samyagjñāne bhavata iti darśayannāha tatra yo'rtha ityādinā | tatra tayormadhye pratyakṣasya vyāpāraṃ darśayati | dṛṣṭatvena jñāto dṛṣṭatvena niścitaḥ | vikalpenānugamyata iti tatpṛṣṭhabhāvinā vikalpenāvasīyate | etaduktaṃ bhavati | pratibhāsamānārthavyavasāyaṃ kurvatpratyakṣaṃ pramāṇaṃ saṃvādakamityarthaḥ | anumānaṃ tvityādinā anumānasya pravṛttiviṣayaṃ darśayati | liṅgadarśanaṃ liṅgajñānam | tacca vahnyavyabhicāridhūmaniścayanaṃ sāmanyena sādhyāvinābhāvi ca smaraṇajñānam | yathā dhūmaṃ pratyakṣeṇa gṛhītvā sarvatrāyaṃ vahnija iti smaraṇaṃ tasmātliṅgajñānānniścinvatpravṛttiviṣayaṃ darśayati | tadanumānaṃ viśiṣṭasaṃbandhena yadudeti jñānaṃ yathātratyo dhūmo vahnija iti jñānam | etaduktaṃ bhavati | pratyakṣasya svaviṣayaniścayajananavyāpāro'bhinnaḥ | anumānasya tu liṅgadarśanātsvaviṣaye niścayātmanotpattireva niścayavyāpāra iti | tathā cetyādinā anayordarśitaṃ vyāpāraṃ spaṣṭayati | ata ete pramāṇe | nānyadvijñānamityevaṃ bruvataite eva samyagjñāne nānyāni śabdādīni teṣāṃ niyatārthānupadarśakatvāditi samyagjñānasya pravṛttiḥ darśitā | yathaite pramāṇe saṃśayādijñānaṃ na tathā pramāṇam | prāptuṃ śakyamityādinā darśayati | etaduktaṃ bhavati | yathā pratyakṣānumāne svena svena pramāṇenopadarśitārthasya prāpake na tathā saṃśayaviparyayajñāne tathābhūtasyārthasyābhāvāditi |



 



nanu ca mā bhūtsaṃśayaviparyayajñānayoḥ prāmāṇyaṃ tathābhūtasyārthasyāsattvāditi yatpunariha kūpe jalamiti jñānaṃ tatpramāṇāntaraṃ kimiti na bhavati na tāvatpratyakṣaṃ tatra jalasya parokṣatvāt | nāpyanumānaṃ liṅgābhāvāt  | nāpi saṃśayanūpaṃ ubhayāṃśābhāvāt | nāpi viparītaṃ viparītārthābhāvāt | ityāśaṅkyāha sarveṇa cāliṅgajenetyādi | evaṃ manyate | yadyapi sākṣātsaṃśayajñānaṃ na pratīyate yastu saṃśayaḥ vikalpakasya jñānasya iha kūpe jalamityevaṃjātīyasya tathāpi niyāmakaṃ liṅgamattareṇa tadapramāṇaṃ niyatārthaparicchedāt | tataścāyamarthaḥ syātkadācitkūpe jalamiti yaccaivaṃnūpaṃ tatsaṃśayajñānamevetyapramāṇam | yatpunastatra pravṛttena kadācijjalaṃ labhyate tajjñānāntarāditi viniścayaṭīkāyāṃ pratipāditam | nanu ca yadyapi saṃśayādīnāmupadarśitārthasya prāpakatvaṃ nāsti kiṃ tāni na vyutpādyanta ityāha arthakriyārthibhiścetyādi | puruṣārthasiddhāvanupayogādityabhiprāyaḥ | nanu ca yadyupadarśitārthaprāpaṇātpramāṇaṃ samyagjñānaṃ śuklaśaṅkhe pītajñānaṃ kuñcikāvivare maṇiprabhāyāṃ maṇijñānaṃ ardharātre madhyāhnakālavastugrāhi svaprajñānaṃ ca pramāṇaṃ prāpnotītyebhirupadarśitasyārthamātrasya prāptestataśca samyagjñānamityāśaṅkyāha arthādhigamātmakaṃ hītyādi | evaṃ manyate | ebhirupadarśitasyārthasya pītākārasya kuñcikāvivarasthasya maṇerniyatadeśasya niyatakālasya cārdharātre'prāpaṇāt deśakālavyatiriktasyāvayavāderabhāvāt ata eva tānyapramāṇānyeva na samyagjñānānīti | yadapyetānyabhrāntagrahaṇasya vyāvartyāni tatraivābhrāntagrahaṇaprastāve darśayitavyāni  tathāpoha samyagjñānavyāvartyaprastāvātkathitānītyadoṣaḥ | nanu cetyādi | evaṃ manyate codakaḥ | deśākārābhyāṃ niyatasya prāptuṃ śakyatvādbhavatvanyākārasyānyadeśasya ca prāptāvapramāṇam | na tvanyakālasya niyatakālasya cāprāpteḥ kṣaṇikatvādbhāvānām | tataśca yathā satyanīle nīlajñānasyānyo grāhyakālo'nyaśca prāpyakālaḥ atha kālabhede'pi prāmāṇyaṃ tathā svaprajñānasyārdharātropadarśitamadhyāhnakālaputraprāpaṇasya prāmāṇyaṃ bhaviṣyatīti | nocyata ityādinā siddhāntavādī tvevaṃ manyate | satyaṃ kṣaṇabhedena vastuno bhedo'styeva kiṃ tu kṣaṇāpekṣayā na prāmāṇyalakṣaṇamucyate api tu saṃtānāpekṣayā | tataśca nīlādau ya eva saṃtānaḥ paricchinno nīlajñānena sa eva tena prāpitaḥ | tena pramāṇaṃ nīlajñānam | na tathā sthūlakālabhedena pradarśitasya putrasya svaprajñānam | na prāptikālabhedena saṃtānaikyādhyavasāyāyogāt | saṃtānagatamekatvaṃ draṣṭavyamityanena niścayapravṛttyorhetuhetumadbhāvaṃ darśayati | sa ca hetuhetumadbhāvaḥ kathaṃ bhavati yadi saṃtānāpekṣayā prāmāṇyamavatiṣṭhate na kṣaṇāpekṣayeti |



 



samyagjñānaṃ pūrvaṃ kāraṇaṃ yasyāḥ | kathaṃ pūrvaśabdaḥ kāraṇe vartata ityāha kāryādityādi | kāraṇaśabda eva kasmānna kṛta ityāha kāraṇaśabda ityādi | kimanantarakāraṇaṃ jñānaṃ saṃbhavati yadapekṣayā vyavahitasya grahaṇārthaṃ pūrvaśabdagrahaṇaṃ kṛtamityāha dvividhamityādi nanu kimucyate arthakriyānirbhāsaṃ jñānamanantaraṃ kāraṇaṃ naṃ hi tatkāraṇajñānaṃ kiṃ tarhi phalajñānam | evaṃ tu yujyate vaktuṃ yatsādhananirbhāsyanantaraṃ jñānamarthakriyānirbhāsajñānamupajanayati tatsādhanajñānamanantarakāraṇamityucyate | tadevātrābhipretamarthakriyānirbhāsaśabdena | kathaṃ | arthakriyā yā nirbhāsaḥ pratibimbanaṃ tadākārajñānotpattiryasmādanantarajñānāttatsādhanajñānaṃ tadarthakriyānirbhāsaṃ sādhanajñānam | evamatrāpi samāsaḥ kartavyaḥ | athavārthakriyājñānamevānantarakāraṇaṃ tatprāpitaheyopādeyānuṣṭhānavyavahārapekṣayā pravartakamiti vyavahitaṃ sādhananirbhāsajñānam | yadyevamanantarameva kimiti na parīkṣyata ityāha yatraiva hītyādi | yatraiva jñāne'rthakriyāsamarthavastupravartake puruṣasya saṃdehastadeva parīkṣyate na cānattarasādhanajñāne saṃdehastadanattaraṃ sukhaduḥkhapratibhāsajñānodayāt | tayoranubhave sati sādhanajñānātpravartituṃ vā yujyata iti na parīkṣāhaṃ yadvārthakriyānirbhāsasyānayā yuktyā na parīkṣārhatvamiti |



 



arthyata ityādi | artha yacñāyāmityasya karmaṇi ghañ | aryata ityapi draṣṭavyam | upalakṣaṇārthatvādasyārterauṇādikaḥsthanpratyayaḥ | heyortha ityādinā vinītadevasya vyākhyā dūṣitā | tena hyevaṃ vyākhyātaṃ arthaśabdena prayojanamucyate puruṣasya prayojanaṃ dārupākādi | tasya siddhirniṣpattiriti | taccāyuktaṃ yasmādarthasya dārupākāderna samyagjñānānniṣpattiḥ | kiṃ tarhi svahetoreva vajrapādeḥ | dharmottaravyākhyāne tu heyopādeyārthaviṣayā yā siddhiranuṣṭhitiḥ sā samyagjñānapūrviketi na doṣaḥ | amumevārthaṃ darśayiṣyati heyasya ca hānamanuṣṭhānam | nanu ca heyopādeyābhyāmanyo'pyupekṣaṇīya asti | tasya kimiti na kathanamityāha na ca heyetyādi |evaṃ manyate | satyaṃ | asti | kiṃ tu tasyānupādeyatvādveyatvameveti na pṛthakkathanam | tena yaduktaṃ kaiścidveyopādeyayoḥ puruṣārthopayogitvātkathanaṃ upekṣaṇīyasya tadviparyayānna kathanamiti tatpratyuktam |  amumevārthaṃ vyācaṣṭe | uttareṇa granthena sarvaśabda ityādinā ṭīkākṛtāṃ vyākhyāṃ dūṣayati | vinītadevaśāntabhadrābhyāmevamāśaṅkā vyākhyātam | kathamāśaṅkitam | na tu sarvā hānopādānārthasiddhiḥ samyagjñānādevāpi tu mithyājñānādapi kākatālīyetyāśaṅkā parihṛtam | satyaṃ asti | kiṃ tvevaṃ vyākhyāyate |sarvaśabdo'yaṃ prakāravācī | tenāyamarthaḥ sarvapuruṣārthasiddhiḥ dviprakārā hānopādānārthasiddhilakṣaṇā | laukikalokottarārthasiddhilakṣaṇā samyagjñānanibandhanā bāhulyeneti | taddūṣitam | yasmātsarvaśabdo'tra draṣṭavyaḥ kārtsnye vartate sarvaṃ brahmaṇā sṛṣṭamiti | tenāyamarthaḥ yāvatī kṛtsnārthasiddhirhānopādānalakṣaṇā sarvā samyagjñānādeva na mithyājñānāt mithyājñānādarthaprāptyasiddheriti | amumevārthamanantareṇa granthena darśayati | dviprakārāpītyādinā paravyākhyāṃ darśayati api tvayamartha ityādinātmīṣāṃ vyākhyām | tato yāvadbrūyādi tyādinopasaṃhāravyājenaivaśabdena prayuktenāvadhāraṇārthavācinā yāvānarthastāvāneva sarvaśabdena prayuktena kṛtsnārthavācinā  bhavatīti darśayati | nanu bahuvrīhiṇā puruṣārthasiddhirucyate tasyāḥ prādhānyāttacchabdena saṃbandho yukto na samyagjñānasyetyāha yadyapītyādi | evaṃ manyate | śabdārtho hi dvividhaḥ śābdaḥ pratipādyaśca | śābdāpekṣayā codyaṃ pratipādyāpekṣayā parihṛtam | samyagjñānasyaiva vyutpādyatayā prastutatvāditarasyāḥ siddhestadviparyayāditi | nanu ca kimidaṃ jñānasya vyutpādanaṃ kiṃ jñānasyotpādanamuta doṣāpanayanamatha svanūpakathanamiti | na tāvadutpādanamanena prakaraṇena kriyate svahetorevotpatteḥ | nāpi doṣāpanayanam | na hyanena prakaraṇena doṣo'panetuṃ śakyate akārakatvādasya nāpi jñāpayitumavidyamānatvāddoṣasya | nāpi svanūpakathanaṃ yujyate niṣprayojanatvātprakaraṇasyetyāśaṅkyāha vyutpādyata iti vipratipattinirākaraṇeneti | evaṃ manyate | vipratipattinirākaraṇadvāreṇa samyagjñānasvanūpaṃ jñāpyate'nena prakaraṇeneti | vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇayuktaṃ samyagjñānaṃ nānyalakṣaṇayuktamiti svanūpakathanam | tāmeva vipratipattiṃ krameṇa darśayati catuḥprakārā saṃkhyālakṣaṇetyādinā | tathetyādinā saṃkhyāvipratipattinirākaraṇaṃ darśayati | anekaprakārā punaḥ samyagjñānasya vipratipattiḥ | tathā hi mīmāṃsakāḥ pratyakṣānumānaśabdopamānārthāpattyabhāvalakṣaṇaṃ padavyākhyāyuktaṃ samyagjñānaṃ manyatte | naiyāyikāścatuḥsaṃkhyāyuktaṃ pratyakṣānumānaśabdopamānalakṣaṇaṃ manyatte | cārvākāstu kecitpratyakṣamevaikamiti | tannirāsena darśayati dvividhamiti | nanu ca samyagjñānasya lakṣaṇe kathite sati paścāttadbhedaḥ pradarśayituṃ yujyate itthaṃbhūtalakṣaṇaṃ samyagjñānaṃ dvividhamiti tatkimityādāveva pradarśitamityāha vyaktibhede cetyādi | evaṃ manyate | satyamevameva kiṃ tatra saṃkhyābhede'kathite samyagjñānasya lakṣaṇameva na śakyate kathayituṃ yataḥ pratyakṣasyānyatlakṣaṇamanumānasya cānyat | saṃkhyābhede tu kathite lakṣaṇaṃ pratiniyataṃ śakyate kathayitumityato lakṣaṇāṅgamevādau saṃkhyābhedakathanamiti | nanu ca pratyakṣamanumānaṃ ceti nirdeśāddvividhamiti labdham | kimarthaṃ dvividhagrahaṇam | ucyate | dvividhameva samyagjñānamityavadhāraṇārthaṃ tenaikatricaturā saṃkhyā nirastā syāt | asati dvitvakathane pratyakṣānumāne tāvatsaṃbhavato'nyānyapi pramāṇāni bhaviṣyattīti syādāśaṅkā | pratigatamakṣamityādinā gatisamāsaṃ darśayati | akṣamakṣaṃ prati pratyakṣamityavyayībhāvasamāsaḥ kasmānna pradarśyate'yaṃ samāsaḥ | yato'vyayībhāvaścennapuṃsakaliṅgatā syātpratyakṣasya | tataśca pratyakṣā buddhiḥ pratyakṣo ghaṭa iti na syāt | idameva syātpratyakṣaṃ jñānaṃ pratyakṣaṃ kuṇḍaṃ ceti | gatisamāse tu sarvaliṅgatā bhavati | nanu ca pratigatamakṣamityasyāṃ vyutpattāvakṣāśritasyaivendriyajñānasya pratyakṣaśabdavācyatā syāt na yogijñānādeiḥ teṣāmakṣānāśrayādityāśaṅkyāha akṣāśritatvaṃ cetyādi | ekārthasamavetamityekasminnindriyajñāne samavetamakṣāśritatvamarthasākṣātkāritvaṃ ca saṃbaddhamityarthaḥ | sānūpyalakṣaṇāmi tyanenārthasānūpyalakṣitaṃ jñānamevocyate | tanna sānūpyamātram | anyathā vinūpātliṅgādanumeye jñānamiti virudhyate | atrāpi paścānmānamanumānami tyavyapībhāvasamāse pūrvavajrodyamudrāvya gatisamāsa āśrayitavyaḥ | anugataṃ mānamanumānamiti paścādityarthakathanaṃ kṛtaṃ na tasminvākye samāsaḥ |



 



cakāraḥ pratyakṣānumānayostulyabalatvaṃ samuccinotītyādinā yaduktaṃ śabarasvāmiprabhṛtibhiḥ pratyakṣaṃ śreṣṭhaṃ pramāṇaṃ nānumānaṃ tathā coktaṃ mīmāṃsabhāṣye pratyakṣe balīyasi kathamanumānamiti tatpratyuktaṃ yato dvayorapi svavyāpāre tulyabalatvam | amumevārthaṃ darśayati | yathāthīvinābhāvetyādinā | anena vinītadevaśāttabhadrayorvyākhyā ca dūṣitā | tābhyāmevaṃ vyākhyātaṃ pratyakṣamanumāna ceti bhinnavibhaktinirdeśo 'rthādviṣayabhedaṃ darśayati | yathānayorvibhaktirbhinnā evaṃ viṣayo 'pi bhinna iti | etaccāyuktaṃ yasmādekavibhaktinirdeśe kriyāmāṇe cakāreṇa tulyabalatvaṃ na pradarśitaṃ syāditi | pratyakṣatvajātyeti pratyakṣāṇāṃ bahutvāt tajjātyā nirdhāryate |



 



pratyakṣamanūdyeti lakṣyanirdeśaḥ | kalpanāpoḍhatvamabhrāntatvaṃ na vidhīyata iti lakṣaṇanirdeśaḥ | anena lakṣyalakṣaṇabhāvaṃ darśayatā vinītadevavyākhyānaṃ saṃjñāsaṃjñisaṃbandhanūpaṃ pratyuktam | na hi saṃjñā yathārthaṃ saṃbhavati | yathārthakathanena hi vipratipattirnirākṛtā syāt | yadyapyanvarthasaṃjñayā kalpanāpoḍhaṃ yadbhrāntaṃ ca tatpratyakṣamiti śakyate yathārthaṃ kathayituṃ tathāpi na svanūpaṃ pratyakṣasya kathitaṃ syāt yato'nyadapi pratyakṣasya svanūpamarthasākṣātkārādikamastīti lakṣyalakṣaṇe tu yathārthaṃ kathite kathitaṃ bhavati | yatkiṃcitpratyakṣaṃ tatkalpanāpoḍhābhrāntamiti pratipattavyam | ata eva na lakṣaṇakaraṇaṃ saṃjñākaraṇaṃ bhavati saṃjñākaraṇatvenāpratīterlakṣaṇakaraṇasya | śabdamanūdyānityatvaṃ lakṣaṇaṃ vidhīyate na cānityatvaṃ saṃjñeti gamyata iti saṃjñālakṣaṇakaraṇayorbhedaḥ | yastvanayoḥ pradeśāntaraprasiddhayoranuvādaṃ kṛtvā pratyakṣatvaṃ vidadhāti tenāpyatra lakṣyalakṣaṇabhāvo viparītamākhyātaṃ bhaṅgyā yato lakṣaṇavidhānakāle lakṣyamanūdya lakṣaṇaṃ vidhīyate na tu lakṣaṇamanūdya lakṣyaṃ vidhīyate | siddhe tu lakṣyalakṣaṇabhāve sati lakṣaṇamanūdya lakṣyaṃ vidhīyate yathā yaḥ śikhāvānsa parivrājaka iti | śikhālakṣaṇavidhānakāle tu parivrājakānuvādena śikhaiva vidhīyate na viparītavidhānamityanyadapyasminyakṣe dūṣaṇaṃ dattaṃ viniścayaṭīkāyāṃ ṭīkākṛteti tatraiva draṣṭavyam | nanu ca lakṣaṇavidhipakṣe pratyakṣasyādyāpyasiddhatvādanūdyaṃ na saṃbhavati tataśca kathaṃ pratyakṣalakṣyamanūdya lakṣaṇaṃ vijñāpyate | yathā śikhayā prarivrājaka ityitra śikhālakṣaṇamanūdya kalpanāpoḍhādi vidhīyata ityāśaṅkyāha  yattadbhavatāmityādi |evaṃ manyate | yadyapi kalpanāpoḍhatvena pratyakṣaṃ na prasiddhaṃ tathāpyarthasākṣātkāritvena sāmānyaṃ pratyakṣaṃ prasiddham | ato'pyucyate pratyakṣamanūdyeti | nanu ca tayoraprasiddhatvātpratyakṣasyāprasiddhireva pratyakṣasya tatsvabhāvatvādityāśaṅkyāha na caitanmantavyamityādi subodham | kalpanāsvabhāvarahitamiti bhāvapradhāno nirdeśaḥ | kalpanātvasvabhāvarahitamityarthaḥ | abhrāntamarthakriyākṣame  na vastunūpa ityādināvisaṃvādo'rtho'bhrāntaśabdasya na saṃbhavatīti darśayati | avisaṃvādārthe'bhrāntaśabde gṛhyamāṇa uttaratradūṣaṇaṃ pratipādayati | sanniveśopādhivarṇātmakamityanenaitaddarśayati | varṇādanyatsaṃsthānādikaṃ paraparikalpitaṃ nāstīti | etacca lakṣaṇadvayamityādinā padadvayena vipratipattinirāsaṃ darśayatā vinītadevavyākhyā padadvayavyavacchedakathananūpā dūṣitā | tena tvevaṃ vyākhyātam | abhrāntamiti yadvisaṃvādi na bhavati | evaṃ satyanumānasyāpi pratyakṣalakṣaṇaṃ prāpnotīti kalpanāpoḍhagrahaṇaṃ tannivṛttyartham | yadyevaṃ vyākhyāyate ālambane yanna bhrāntaṃ tadabhrāntamityevamucyamāne sarvaṃ pratyakṣaṃ jñānamālambane bhrāntamiti na kasyacitpratyakṣatvaṃ syāt | tathā cāha |



 



sarvamālambane bhrāntaṃ muktvā tathāgatajñānam |

na tadapyatrācāryeṇa saṃgṛhītamiti tadayuktaṃ yata ācāryeṇa vipratipattinirāsārthaṃ padadvayaṃ kṛtaṃ na vyavacchedārtham | ata evācāryamanumāpayatā dharmottareṇa padadvayaṃ vyākhyātamiti | nanu ca bhavataḥ pakṣe'pi kimiti vyavacchedārthaṃ na bhavatītyāha etaccetyādi | evaṃ manyate | bhrāntaśabdo'yaṃ nāvisaṃvādārtho gṛhyate | api tvarthakriyākṣame vastunūpa ālambane yanna bhrāmyati tadabhrāntaśabdena gṛhyate | nanūktaṃ yogācāramatamasaṃgṛhītaṃ syāditi | ucyate | bāhyānayena sautrāttika matānusāreṇācāryeṇa lakṣaṇaṃ kṛtamityadoṣaḥ | yogācāramatena tvabhrāntagrahaṇaṃ na kartavyaṃ saṃvādakasya samyagjñānasya prastutatvāt anyavyāvartyasyābhāvāt | tasmādabhrāntagrahaṇenānumāne niraste kalpanāpoḍhagrahaṇāmadhikaṃ siddhivipratipattiṃ nirākaroti | ata evāha na tvanumānanivṛttyarthamiti | asti cātra vipratipattiḥ | tathāhi mīmāṃsakādaya evamāhuḥ | yathā nirvikalpakaṃ jñānaṃ samyagjñānaṃ tathā jātyādiyojanājñānamapi samyagjñānamindriyajaṃ upadarśitasyārthasya prāpaṇāt | tathā cāhuḥ |



 



tataḥ paraṃ punarvastudharmairjātyādibhiryayā |



 



buddhyāvasīyate sāpi pratyakṣatvena saṃmateti ||



 



tathā ca vaiyākaraṇā āhuḥ | vācakasaṃsṛṣṭaṃ vācyamindriyajñāne pratibhāsate | tena śabdasaṃyojanātmakamiti |



 



vāyūpatā cedutkrāmedavabodhasya śāśvatī |



na prakāśaḥ prakāśena sā hi pratyavamarśinī ||



na so'sti pratyayo loke yaḥ śabdānugamādṛte |



anuviddhamiva jñānaṃ sarvaṃ śabdena bhāsate ||



 



tathā naiyāyikādīnāṃ savikalpakaṃ pratyakṣamiti kalpanāpoḍhagrahaṇena nirākriyate | tathā kalpanāpoḍhagrahaṇena nirvikalpake siddhe'bhrāntagrahaṇamatiricyamānaṃ dvicandrajñānādeḥ samyagjñānādhikaraṇa evaṃ nirastatvādvipratipattinirāsārthatvameva bhavati | tathācāryaikadeśīyāḥ śukle śaṅkhe pītajñānaṃ gacchadvṛkṣadarśanajñānaṃ cālātacakrajñānamabhrāntamapi samyagjñānamicchanti vastuno'bhrāntatvātpītākārādeśca bhrāntatvādityasti vipratipattiḥ | tannirākriyate'bhrāntagrahaṇeneti sthitaṃ dvayorapi vipratipattinirāsārthatvamiti | tathā sati abhrāntagrahaṇa ityādinābhrāntaśabdasya vipratipattiviṣayaṃ darśayati | na tato vṛkṣāvāptirityupadarśitasya gacchadvṛkṣasyāprāpterityabhiprāyaḥ | jñānāntarādeva tviti pratyakṣāntarātsthiravṛkṣasya prāpteḥ | tathābhrāntagrahaṇenetyādinā kalpanāpoḍhagrahaṇasya vipratipattinirāsārthatvaṃ darśayati | vipratipattiviṣayaśca ṭīkākṛtā na darśito'tiprasiddhatvāt | yaduktaṃ prāg nāvisaṃvādārtho'bhrāntārtha iti tasyārthasya grahaṇe doṣaṃ darśayati na tvavisaṃvādakamityādinā |



 



kīdṛśī punaḥ kalpanetyādinā kalpanābahutvātkasyāḥ kalpanāyāḥ grahaṇamiti kalpanāviśeṣamajñānanpṛcchati | tathā hi vaibhāṣikā indriyavijñānaṃ vitarkavicāracaitasikasaṃprayuktaṃ kalpanāmicchanti | yogācāramatena ca tathāgatajñānamadvayaṃ muktvā sarvajñānaṃ grāhyagrāhakatvena vikalpitaṃ kalpanā | jātyādisaṃsṛṣṭaṃ tu manojñānaṃ kalpanetyanye kathayanti | abhilāpetyādinā śabdasaṃsṛṣṭasya vikalpasya grahaṇaṃ nāgamaparipaṭhitānāmiti darśayati | teṣāṃ grahaṇe satīndriyavijñānasya pratyakṣatvānupapatteḥ | abhilapyata aneneti karaṇasādhanenaitaddarśayati | vācako'bhilāpaśabdeneṣṭo na tu vācyaṃ sāmānyādi | tena vinītadevavyākhyā dūṣitā abhilapyata ityabhilāpaḥ vācyaḥ sāmānyādirityevaṃnūpā | evamevedamāśrayaṇīyamanyathā yogyagrahaṇena śabdasaṃsargayogyo na kathitaḥ syāditi | yadyevaṃ dharmottaravyākhyāne jātyādervācyasya saṃsargabhāvo na pradarśitaḥ syāt |satyaṃ anena na pratipāditaḥ |viṣayacintāyāṃ sāmānyāderviṣayabhāvakathanena sāmarthyātkathitaṃ bhavatīti nirodhaḥ | ekasmiñjñāne vācyavācakākāratayā saṃghaṭanamityarthaḥ | nanu ca yadyapi tasmiñjñāna ākārayormīlanaṃ tathāpi śabdārthayoḥ saṃsargo nāstītyāha | tato yadaikasminnityādi | śabdārthayoḥ saṃsargavijñāne'pi tayorākārayormīlanaṃ na saṃbhavatītyabhiprāyaḥ | tatra kācitpratītirityādinā yogyagrahaṇasya viṣayaṃ darśayati | vyutpannasaṃketāpekṣayākāradvayapratibhāsanam | nanu cāvyutpannasaṃketasya bālamūkāderanumato vijñāne na śabdasaṃsarga iti tadyotyatvamapi nāsti | kaśca saṃsargayogyapratibhāsaḥ ya śabdapratibhāsaḥ | mūkādijñāne tu saṃketābhāve sati śabdapratibhāso'pi na saṃbhavatīti saṃsargayogyatvamapi nāsti | kimidaṃ yogyatvaṃ nāma abhidheyākārasya saṃketakaraṇayogyatvam | na cābhidhānotlekhābhāve satyabhidheyapratibhāsanaṃ nāpi yogyatvamiti | tathā cakumārilaḥ prāha |



 



asti hyālocanātmakaṃ prathamaṃ nirvikalpakaṃ |



bālamūkādivijñānasadṛśaṃ śuddhavastujamiti ||



 



tataśca vyāvartyābhāvādyogyagrahaṇaṃ na kartavyamityāśaṅkāṃ parasya darśayati asatyabhilāpetyadinā | aniyatapratibhāsetyādinottaramāha | evaṃ manyate | śabdasaṃsargitva kimucyate vikalpajñānasyāniyatapratibhāsatvameva | kutastatsiddhamityāha aniyatetyādi | arthādeva hyutpadyamānaṃ niyatapratibhāsaṃ bhavati | tathā cakṣurvijñānamityabhiprāyaḥ | nanu kalpanājñānamapyarthādutpadyamānaṃ niyatākāraṃ bhaviṣyatītyāha vikalpajñānetyādi | arthasaṃnidhi vinā vikalpajñānasyotpattirityabhiprāyaḥ tenendriyajñānameva niyatapratibhāsam | vikalpajñānaṃ tvaniyatapratibhāsamiti | tathāniyatapratibhāsaṃ vikalpajñānaṃ bālamūkāderapyastīti darśayati bālo'pi hītyādinā | nanu ca bālasya tālvādikaraṇapāṭavābhāve sāmānyaviśeṣaśabdoccāraṇaṃ nāsti tatkimucyate sa evāyamiti | satyaṃ nāsti kiṃ tu sa evāyamityanena vikalpasyāvasthocyate | sa evāyamityanena pūrvadṛṣṭatvamevocyate | uparatarudito'pagataruditaḥ | etaddarśayati | bālasyāpi pūrvāparaparāmarśanūpaṃ vikalpakaṃ vijñānamasti niyataviṣaye pravṛtteḥ yathā gṛhītasaṃketasya pūrvāparaparāmarśena pravṛttiriti | yacca pūrvāparaparāmarśaṃ,tadaniyatapratibhāsaṃ pūrvāparayorāropitatvāditi saṃsargayogyaṃ bālamūkādervijñānamiti tannivṛttyartha yogyagrahaṇaṃ kartavyamiti sthitam | indriyavijñānamityādinā kumārilena yadindriyavijñānasyālocanākhyasya bālamūkādivijñānena sādṛśyaṃ pratipāditaṃ taddūṣayitumupasaṃhāravyājena vailakṣaṇyaṃ darśayati | ata evetyādi yadindriyavijñānamarthabalenotpadyamānaṃ niyatapratibhāsaṃ tannirvikalpakam | ata eva svalakṣaṇasyāpi śabdasyārthasya ca vācyavācakatvamabhyupagamya nirvikalpakatvamindriyavijñānasya sādhyate | vikalpavijñānasya tu svalakṣaṇavācyavācakatvaṃ pratibhāsino'pi savikalpakatvamiti sthitam | yadyapītyanena svalakṣaṇayorvācyavācakabhāvābhyupagamaṃ darśayati paramārthataḥ sāmānyayoreva vācyavācakatvaṃ nārthaśabdaviśeṣasyetyādinā nyāyena | avaśyaṃ ca svalakṣaṇayoḥ vācyavācakabhāvo'bhyupagamyaḥ | kutaḥ | sāmānyayorviṣayacintāyāmeva nirasyamānatvāditi nirvikalpakatvakathanaṃ vyarthaṃ syādiha | tadapi hi viṣayāviṣayacintādvāreṇa nirvikalpakaviṣayameveti | tena yadvinītadevena sāmānyayorvāghyavācakabhāvamaṅgīkṛtya nirvikalpakatvamindriyavijñānasya pratipāditaṃ taddūṣitaṃ bhaṅgyā | śrotravijñānaṃ tarhītyādinā svalakṣaṇasya vācyavācakabhāvapakṣe'tiprasaṅgamāpādayati paraḥ | kiṃcinnirvikalpakatvamindriyavijñānasya sādhanīyam| na sāmānyayorvācyavācakamabhyupagamya śabdasvalakṣaṇaṃ vācyam | yadā ghaṭaśabdaḥ śabdaśabdo vā śabdaṃ śabdena pratipadyate tadā kiṃcidvācyaṃ śabdasvalakṣaṇaṃ kiṃcidvācakaṃ śabdasvalakṣaṇamiti | tataḥ śruddhayoḥ śravaṇe sati śabdavijñāne dvayorapi śabdayoḥ pratibhāsanācchrotrendriyajñānamaniyatapratibhāsitvātsavikalpakaṃ syādityākūtam | satyapītyādi |evaṃ manyate | yadyapi svalakṣaṇayorvācyavācakatvaṃ tathāpi śrotravijñāne na vācyavācakatayā tayoḥ pratibhāsanaṃ api tu śuddhayoreva pratibhāsanaṃ yasmācchabdasaṃnidhibalena śrotravijñānamutpadyate | na ca saṃnihitayoḥ śabdayoḥ vācyavācakatvamasti | yāvatsaṃketakālabhāviśabdasmaraṇaṃ na bhavati tāvatkuto vācyatvaṃ vācakatvaṃ vā syāt etatpratyabhijñayā sa evāyaṃ vācako bhaviṣyatītyāha | na ca saṃketakāletyādi | viṣayabhedāttayoḥ pūrvottarayorbhedaḥ | kaśca saṃketaviṣayaḥ śabdo yaḥ saṃketakālabhāvinā jñānena viṣayīkṛtaḥ | yaśca pūrvajñānena viṣayīkṛtaḥ sa idānīṃ nāsti pūrvajñānavināśe pūrvajñānaviṣayatvasyābhāvāt | ataḥ pūrvakālaviṣayatvamapaśyatsannihite śrotrabalenotpadyamānaṃ nirvikalpakameva | yogijñānena yadyekasminkāle manovijñānena ca yugapacchandārthau gṛhīte tathāpi saṃnihitavastutayā tena gṛhītavyāviti darśayati | yogijñānamityādinā | nanu kalpanājñānamapi parayā kalpanayā śūnyaṃ tataśca tasyāpi nirvikalpakatvaṃ prāpnotītyāśaṅkyāha | tayā kalpanayā kalpanāsvabhāvenetyādi | evaṃ manyate | dharmiṇā kalpanājñānena dharmo'tra kalpanātvaṃ lakṣyate yathā viṣāṇītyatra viṣāṇitvaṃ tataśca kalpanātvena rahitaṃ yajjñānaṃ tannirvikalpakam | na ca kalpanājñānaṃ kalpanātvarahitamityadoṣaḥ |



 



kalpanāpoḍhābhrāntatvayorlakṣaṇayoḥ parasparaviśeṣaṇaviśeṣyatvaṃ na svātantryeṇa pṛthaglakṣaṇatvamiti darśayitumante pratyakṣaśabdaṃ gṛhītvā tayorapi saṃbadhnāti tatpratyakṣamiti pareṇa saṃbandha ityanena | indriyagatamidaṃ vibhramakāraṇamitīndriyasya timireṇākrāntatvāt | āśubhramaṇamiti | mandaṃ bhramyamāṇa iti viśeṣaṇasya vyāvṛttiḥ | viṣayagatamiti viṣayasyālātādeścakrākāraṃ prati nimittatvāt | nauyānamiti samudāyapraśnaḥ | gacchatyāṃ nāvītyādinā | prayojanaṃ darśayati | bāhyāśrayagatamiti | bāhyā nauḥ sevāśrayastatra sthitasyāśrayadvārako vibhrama ucyate | saṃkṣobho vātādīnāṃ vikārāpattiradhyātmikavibhramakāraṇam | nanu cendriyagatameva vibhramakāraṇam | pratyucyate| nānyairindriyamagatairindriyaṃ vikriyāṃ gatamityāha sarvairevetyādi timirasya sākṣādalātādeḥ pāramparyeṇeti etacca viniścayaṭīkāyāṃ vistareṇa pratipāditamiti | saṃkṣobhapadena saha dvandvaṃ kṛtvā bahuvrīhiriti darśayati viniścaye tu saṃkṣobhaśabdena ṣaṣṭhīsamāsaṃ kṛtvādiśabdena bahuvrīhisamāsa darśayataḥ ko'bhiprāyaḥ ṭīkākṛta iti | vyutpattibhedakathanameva nārthabheda iti | yadā saṃkṣobhaśabdena ṣaṣṭhī samāsaḥ tadāśrayagatasya vibhramakāraṇasyopalakṣaṇatvādvātapittādergrahaṇaṃ bhavatīti nārthabhedaḥ | atha kimarthamāśubhramaṇagrahaṇāderupādānaṃ timirādītyeva kriyatāmādigrahaṇena sarveṣāṃ saṃgraho bhaviṣyati | ucyate | asatyāśubhramaṇādigrahaṇa indriyagatamevādiśabdena kācakāmalādi gṛhyata ityāśaṅkyeta | tasmādāśubhramaṇādirupādīyate | teṣāmupādāne padyādigrahaṇaṃ na kriyeta tadā teṣāṃ svanūpagrahaṇameva syāt | na prakāropalakṣaṇamityādigrahaṇam | tata ubhayopādāne sati timirādīnāmubhayakātsyarna labhyata iti sthitam | tat tathāvidhaṃ jñānamiti yadyapi sūtre jñānagrahaṇaṃ nāsti tathāpi bhrānte jñānadharmatvāttadyudāsena jñānameva pratyakṣaṃ gṛhyata ityadoṣaḥ | vinītadevavyākhyāyāṃ bhavati tu pratyakṣasūtrasyārthakathanaṃ jñānaṃ pratyakṣamiti tasmātsthitaṃ nirvikalpakaṃ jñānaṃ pratyakṣabhrāntamiti ||



 



yairindriyameva draṣṭu parikalpitamiti | vaibhāṣikaiḥ cakṣuḥ paśyati nūpāṇīti tairiṣyate| mānase ca pratyakṣe doṣa udbhāvita iti dvābhyāṃ bhikṣavo nūpaṃ dṛśyate cakṣurvijñānena tadākṛṣṭena manovijñāneneti tadāgamasiddhaṃ manovijñānamācāryadignāgena pratyakṣaṃ darśitaṃ tatparaiḥ kumārilādibhirlakṣaṇamajñānadbhirdūṣitam | tanmanojñānaṃ yadīndriyavijñānaviṣaye pravartate tadā gṛhītagrāhitayāpramāṇaṃ athānyaviṣaye pravartate vyavahite pratyakṣaṃ bhavatkiṃ tanmanovijñānamindriyasavyapekṣaṃ syānnirāpekṣaṃ vā | indriyasavyapekṣatve satīndiyavijñānameva nirāpekṣatve vānindriyasyāpi manovijñānaṃ pratyakṣaṃ syādityandhabadhirādyabhāvacodya kṛtam | svasaṃvedanaṃ ca nābhyupagatamiti mīmāṃsakaiḥ parokṣaṃ vijñānamarthāpattigamyaṃ pratyakṣo'rtha iṣyate | naiyāyikādibhistu jñānāntaragamyaṃ jñānamiṣyate na svasaṃvedanaṃ siddhaṃ svātmani kāritvavirodhāt | yogijñānaṃ ca nābhyupagatamiti saṃbandhaḥ | mīmāṃsakādaya evamāhuḥ | yogina eva na saṃprati pramāṇābhāvāt kiṃ punaḥ teṣāṃ jñānamiti indriyāśritamiti cakṣurādīndriyacatuṣṭayaṃ gṛhyate | na mana indriyaṃ tasya svasaṃvedanapratyakṣe pratipādyamānatvāt | indriyāśritaṃ vijñānaṃ pratyakṣamiti bruvatā thismuc vārtikakṛtā na cakṣuḥ pramāṇamiti kathitaṃ bhavati yasmājjñānasyaivānvayavyatirekānuvidhānādrūpādidarśane sāmarthyaṃ na cakṣuṣaḥ | yatūktaṃ jñānaṃ cetpaśyati vyavahitamapi kiṃ na paśyati amūrtasyāvācakābhāvāditi tadayuktaṃ yato yogyadeśenaivārthena tajjñānaṃ janyate na vyavahitena vijñānādarśanāt |



 



svaśabdasya vivaraṇaṃ ātmīya itīndriyavijñānasyātmīyaḥ viṣayakṣaṇaḥ | tasyānāntara ityasya vivaraṇaṃ na vidyata ityādi | antaraśabdasya vivaraṇaṃ vyavadhānamityādi | samānajātīya upādeyakṣaṇa indriyavijñānaviṣayasyāvyavahitaḥ samānajātīyakṣaṇa ucyate | sa copādeyakṣaṇo viṣayaḥ |viṣayagrahaṇenālokasyānantarasya nirāsaḥ | sa tathābhūtaḥ sahakārī yasyeti saṃbandhaḥ | nanu ca kathaṃ viṣayakṣaṇasya sahakāritvamekasminkṣaṇe upakāryopakārakabhāvābhāvādityata āha dvividhaścetyādi | evaṃ manyate | nātropakārakatvātsahakāritvamapi tvekakāryakāritvāditi | tadeva darśayati viṣayetyādinā | īdṛśeneti svaviṣayānantaraviṣayasahakāriṇondriyajñānenālambanapratyayabhūteneti | yadā yogijñānaṃ parasyaivaṃvidhajñānamālambate tadālambanabhūtena yogijñānaṃ janyata iti | samaścāsāvityanantarakṣaṇasyāpi jñānatvāt | samanantara iti ca bhavati śakandhvādiṣu pāṭhāt paranūpatvaṃ yataḥ sa ceti samanantaraḥ hetutvāditi pratyayārthakathanametat | tena janitamityādinaitatkathayati | indriyavijñānena svaviṣayānantaraviṣayasahakāriṇopādānabhūtena yajjanitaṃ tadeva manovijñānaṃ pratyakṣaṃ na ālambanabhūtena janitamityarthaḥ | yadā cetyādinā dvayorekaṃ viṣayaṃ gṛhītvā yañcoditaṃ pareṇa tatparihṛtaṃ pūrvakṣaṇa indriyavijñānasya viṣayo dvitīyakṣaṇe manovijñānasya viṣaya ityagṛhītagrāhi manovijñānamiti | yadā cetyādinā yaccodyaṃ kṛtaṃ yadi manovijñānamindriyasavyapekṣaṃ na syānmanovijñānasyendriyavijñānaviṣayādanyo viṣayaḥ tadāndhabadirādyabhāvaḥ vyavahitasya nīlādergrahaṇaṃ bhavatviti tatparihṛtam | yasmādindriyavijñānaviṣayasya dvitīyopādeyabhūtaviṣayakṣaṇo gṛhīto manovijñānaviṣayaḥ tasmādyavahitakṣaṇo viṣayo na bhavatyasyāndhabadirādeścātīndriyavijñānam | vijñānaviṣayānantaraviṣayasahakāri vidyate | tena teṣāṃ na manovijñānaṃ bhavatīti parihṛtam | svaviṣayānantaraviṣayasahakāriṇotyudyamāne śabdaviṣayaṃ mānasaṃ na prāpnoti śrotravijñānaviṣayācchabdādaparasyopādeyakṣaṇasyānutpatteḥ śabdasyoccheditvāt | aparasya śabdasya śabdādanutpatterityavaśyaṃ mānasaṃ pratyakṣaśabdaviṣayameṣṭavyam | anyathā pañca bāhyā vijñeyā ityasya vyāghātaḥ syāt | svaviṣayānantaraviṣayaśabdena śrotravijñānaviṣayānantarayogyaviṣayo gṛhyate nopādeyakṣaṇa eva tena vijñānaviṣayadeśe'paraśabdo yadotpadyate tadā mānasaṃ pratyakṣaṃ svaviṣayānantaraviṣayasahakāriṇā janitaṃ bhavatītyadoṣaḥ | etaccetyādinā manovijñānasyotpattiviṣayaṃ darśayati | uparate cakṣuṣīti | yadā cakṣurviṣayamālocyoparataṃ bhavati tadālocanāviṣaye cakṣurvijñānamutpannaṃ satpunardvitīye kṣaṇa ātmīyaviṣayānantaraviṣayenotpādyata indriyāṇāṃ tatra vyāpārābhāvāt |tataśca tenendriyavijñānena svaviṣayānantaraviṣayasahakāriṇā mānasapratyakṣamutpadyata iti sthitam | nanvekasminkṣaṇe tasyotpādake sati na tatra kācidarthakriyāvāpyata iti puruṣārthānupayogitvātprāmāṇyaṃ prāpnoti | ucyate | na mānasapratyakṣeṇāsmadvidhānāmarthakriyāvāptirbhavati api tu yogino vītarāgādeḥ | te ca tasminkṣaṇe mānase copadarśitaṃ viṣayaṃ pratipadya dharmadeśanādikāmarthakriyāmāsādayantītyinavadyam |  atha vyāpāravati cakṣuṣi kimiti mānasotpattirlupyata ityāha vyāpāravatityādi sarvendriyāśritaṃ jñānaṃ cakṣurvijñānameva na mānasasyotpattirastītyabhiprāyaḥ|  nanu vyāpāravati cakṣuṣi prathame kṣaṇa indriyavijñānaṃ bhavati dvitīye kṣaṇe mānasaṃ bhavati yadyapi samānajātīyayoryugapadutpattirnāstītyāha itarathetyādi | evaṃ manyate| vyāpāravati cakṣuṣi kimitīndriyavijñānaṃ notpadyate dvitīye kṣaṇe yogyakaraṇe sati samānanūpaṃ tena tayoḥ kathamindriyavijñānavyapadeśo na syāditi  | nanu ca yadi mānasaṃ pratyakṣaṃ indriyajñānādbhinnaṃ pratyakṣādipramāṇasiddhaṃ bhavettadā tasya lakṣaṇaṃ yāvatā pramāṇasiddhameva nāstītyāha etaccetyādi | evaṃjātīyakamitīndriyavijñānasadṛśaṃ tadetaddharmottareṇāgamasiddhaṃ darśayatācāryajñānagarbhaprabhṛtīnāṃ mānasasiddhaye yatpramāṇamupanyastaṃ vikalpodayāditi tadbhaṅgyāvadhāraṇādeva dūṣitam | tairevaṃ vyākhyātaṃ vyāpāravati cakṣuṣīndriyajñānamutpadyate mānasaṃ ca | na śakyate vaktuṃ dvayoryugapadutpattirnāstīti | yataḥ samānendriyayornāsti na bhinnendriyayoḥ ṣaṇāṃ yugapadutpattiriti vacanāt | tataśca dvayorbhinnendriyayoryugapadutpattiḥ | na ca tatra bhedenānupalabhyamānaṃ mānasaṃ nāstīti śakyate vaktuṃ samānajātīyanīlavikalpodayāt |  yadi ca tanna mānasaṃ syāttatpṛṣṭhabhāvī nīlavikalpā ne syādeva | samānādvi mānasātmano vikalpasyotpattirbhavati na vijātīyādindriyavijñānāditi | yathā deevadattena nīle gṛhīte na yajñadattasya nīlaniścayo bhavati | tathendriyavijñānamanovijñānasaṃtānayorbhinnatvāt | na tathā mānasamanovikalpasaṃtānayorbhinnasaṃtānatvam dvayorapyanindriyatvāt manovyapadeśācceti | atrocyate | yaduktaṃ tāvatsamānajātīyavikalpodayāditi tatsidvau yatsādhanaṃ tadanaikāntikam | vijātīpādapyutpattidarśanādanvayavyatirakobhyām | na ca vyāpāravati cakṣuṣi mānasasyotpattirasti na ca dvayornīlavijñānayorutpattirnirvikalpayordṛśyate anupalabhyamānatvāttayoḥ | tenendriyavijñānādeva vijātīyādvikalpakasyotpatterna vikalpasyodayāditi mānasasiddhau hetuḥ | na ca devadattayajñadattayorivabhinnasaṃtānavartitvaṃ savikalpakanirvikalpakayoḥ | yena bhinnasaṃtānānnirvikalpakādutpattirna syādekasaṃtānapātitvāttayoravaśyaṃ cāṅgīkartavyā vijātīyā vikalpasyotpattiryena vārtikakāra evamāha |

saṃvicchabdenendriyavijñānamevocyate na mānasam | tataśca tatsāmarthyabhāvi kathaṃ vikalpavijñānaṃ smaraṇaṃ vijātīyatvāt | na ca tatra mānasaṃ saṃviducyata indriyavijñānasya vyavahāreṇa prāmāṇyasya cintyatvāt | kiṃ cendriyavijñānasya kathaṃ prāmāṇyaṃ yadi svavyāpāraṃ karoti | svavyāpārastu svaviṣaye vikalpajanakatvaṃ nāma | tataśca vijātīyādapi vikalpasyodayāditi yatkiṃcidetat|



 



nanu cittacaittā iti vaktavye sarvagrahaṇasya vyāvartyābhāvādapārthakaṃ tadgrahaṇamityāha sukhādaya evetyādi | na kevalaṃ prasiddhāḥ sukhādayaḥ cittacaittā svasaṃvedanā gṛhyatte anye'pi svasaṃvedanā iti tātparyam | amumevārthaṃ darśayati nāstītyādinā | śuddhasya cittāvasthānūpasyāsaṃveditasyābhāvamāheti bhāvaḥ | evaṃ bruvatā ṭīkākṛtānena nirodhasamāpattyavasthāyāṃ śuddhacittābhāva evetyabhiprāyaḥ pradarśitaḥ tasyāmavasthāyāṃ na kāciccittāvasthā saṃvedyate yataḥ | nanu cittacaittā nāmātmasaṃvedanaṃ nāsti syātmani kāritvavirodhādityuktamityāha yena hītyādi | yasmādanena bodhasvanūpeṇātmasvanūpaṃ vedyate tatpratyakṣamātmasaṃvedanamucyate | evaṃ manyate | yathā pradīpaḥ prakāśatayaṃ svanūpaṃ nivedayannātmaprakāśane na pradīpāttaramapekṣate tathā cittādikamapi saṃvidrūpatayā svanūpaṃ nivedayannātmasaṃvedane na jñānāttaramapekṣate | na ca svātmani kāritvavirodho yato vāstavakārakatvābhāvaḥ | atrāpi kalpanayā prakāśyaprakāśakatvena karmakartṛbhāvaḥ | tatrāpi nīlākārotpattireva prakāśakatvaṃ jñānasya pradīpasyāpi prāgbhāvitvameva | prakāśakatvaṃ kalpanāparo vyāpāraḥ | bodhasya tu bodhanūyatayotpattireva svaprakāśakatvam | tataśca vijñānaṃ bodhanūpatayā pratyakṣeṇānubhūyamānaṃ kathamapahnūyate bhavatā parokṣaṃ vijñānamiti | evaṃ tāvanmīmāṃsakādīnprati vijñānaṃ svasaṃvedanapratyakṣaṃ nirdiṣṭam | yastu sāṃkhyo'pi bāhyanūpāḥ sukhādaya iti manyate taṃ pratyāha iha ca nūpādo dṛśyamāna ityādi | evaṃ manyate | nīlanūpātsātādikamantaraṃ saṃvedanaṃ pratyakṣeṇānubhūyamānaṃ na bāhyenābhinnanūpaṃ jaḍanūpaṃ ca śakyate vaktumiti | amumevārthaṃ na ca gṛhyamānākāra ityādinā darśayati | sākṣātkāritvavyāpāra iti pratyakṣasya vyāpāraḥ | vikalpastatpṛṣṭhabhāvo | na ca nīlasya sātanūpatvamanugamyata iti tatpṛṣṭhabhāvinā vikalpena sātanūpo nīlādirnānugamyata ityarthaḥ | tena nīlādiḥ sātasvabhāvo na pratyakṣasiddha iti sāṃkhyaṃ nirākurvatā grāhyagrāhakaṃ sātādinūpaṃ bhinnaṃ pratyakṣaṃ pradarśitam | tena yuktamuktaṃ keścit grāhyādbhinnaṃ grāhakaṃ na pratyakṣeṇānubhūyata iti tena kiṃcinnāma nāpahnutaṃ bhavatītyuktam | tasmātsarvāṇyetāni cittacaittāni svasaṃvedanapratyakṣāṇīti | teṣāṃ lakṣaṇaṃ yojayati taccetyādinā | tatpratyakṣaṃ svasaṃvedananūpaṃ nirvikalpakaṃ tatra śabdādiyojanābhāvāt | kutaḥ | śabdena saṃketābhāvāt | abhrāntaṃ ca tadvijñānaṃ svanūpe'viparyastatvād bādhakābhāvācceti |



 



bhāvyamānārthābhāsasyeti kṣaṇikatvādigrāhiṇaḥ | skuṭābhavārambha ityādyatiśayasyopakramāttataḥ pareṇātiśayābhāvājjñānasya | tataśca kṣaṇikatvādigrāhi manovijñānaṃ bhāvyamānamīṣadasaṃpūrṇamantakṣaṇaḥ | prakarṣaparyanta ucyate | tadeva darśayati yadā sphuṭābhatvamityādinā | tadiha sphuṭābhatvārambhe tyādinopasaṃhāravyājena yogino manovijñānasyāvasthātrayaṃ darśayati | bhāvanāprakarṣāvasthekā prakarṣaparyantāvasthā dvitīyā bhāvyamānasya karatalāmalakavaddarśanaṃ yoginaḥ tṛtīyāvastheti | taddhi sphuṭābhamityādinā yogino manovijñānamapi sphuṭābhatvādevendriyavijñānavannirvikalpakaṃ darśayati |



 



nirvikalpānubaddhasya spaṣṭārthaḥ pratibhāsate |



 



iti nyāyādyadyapi manojñānena bhāvanāprakarṣaparyantajena śabdārthauo yugapadgṛhyete tathāpi dvayoḥ svanūpasya sannihitatayā gṛhyamāṇatvāttadgrāhi vijñānaṃ nirvikalpakamiti | nuna ca manovijñānaṃ bhāvyamānaṃ vācyavācakasaṃsṛṣṭaṃ pratibhāsate yathā tathaiva bhāvyamānaṃ prakarṣaparyantajaṃ manovijñānaṃ vācyavācakapratibhāsi sphuṭābhaṃ bhavati | tadā sphuṭābhatvānnirvikalpako'pamityanaikāntiko heturiti paccoditaṃ pareṇa tatparihartumupakramate vikalpavijñānaṃ hītyādinā | evaṃ manyate | yadyapi manovijñānaṃ vācyavācakasaṃsṛṣṭapratibhāsi tathāpi sphuṭābhatvāvasthāyāṃ tadalīkākāraṃ vācyavācakanūpamapaiti vittinūpaṃ tu tasya nijam | atastadeva cidrūpaṃ jñānaṃ sphuṭaṃ bhavati na vācyavācakākāratayā tayorāropitanūpatvāt | āropitanūpagrahaṇasphuṭatvameva na syāditi nānaikāntikatvaṃ hetoḥ sphuṭābhatvādityasya | yadā tu vikalpavijñānaṃ śabdasaṃsargayogyavastu gṛhṇāti tadā saṃketakāladṛṣṭatvena tadvastu gṛhṇāti | tadasaṃnihitaṃ tadā tasya saṃketābhāvāt | tacca pūrvadṛṣṭaṃ pūrvavijñānasya viṣayaḥ | tacca pūrvavijñānaṃ saṃprati śabdasaṃsargayogyavastugrahaṇakāle nāsti kṣaṇikatvājjñānasya | tadvatpūrvavijñānaviṣayatvamapi saṃprati nāsti viṣayiṇo jñānasyābhāve viṣayasyāpyarthasya saṃketakālabhāvinojbhāva ityasaṃnihataṃ saṃketakālabhāvi tadvastvāropya gṛhṇadvikalpavijñānamasphuṭaṃ bhavatīti | sphuṭatvaṃ tato nivṛttaṃ nirvikalpe'vatiṣṭhata iti vyāptiḥ siddhyati | tataḥ sphuṭatvānnirvikalpakaṃ yogijñānamabhrāntaṃ ca pramāṇena śuddhārthagrāhitvātsaṃvādakam | iyadeveti indriyavijñānādārabhya yogijñānaparyantaṃ naikamevendriyapratyakṣamityarthaḥ | nāpyadhikamadhikasyānupalambhāt ||



 



prakārabhedamiti pratyakṣaṃ sāmānyaṃ nirvikalpakamabhrāntaṃ tasya prakārabheda indriyajñānādiḥ | taṃ pratipādyetyarthaḥ | viṣayavipratipattimiti | iha kaiścinmīmāṃsakādimiḥ pratyakṣasya sāmānyaviśeṣau dvāvapi viṣayau kalpitau | anumānasya sāmānyameva viṣayaḥ na viśeṣaḥ | sāṃkhyena dvayorapi viśeṣo viṣaya iṣṭaḥ sāmānyasyābhāvāt | vedāntavādinā ca sāmānyameva viṣayo dvayoḥ ātmadvaitatayā sarvasyaikatvādviśeṣe bhrāntatvāddvayoriti vipratipattiḥ pratyakṣādiviṣaye | svalakṣaṇami tyaneneṣṭaṃ viṣayaṃ darśayati | tattvamityarthakriyākāri | anena lakṣaṇaśabdo vivṛtaḥ | lakṣyate dāhādyarthakriyā yena tatlakṣaṇam | etaddarśayati | asādhāraṇameva tattva vastuno nūpam| sādhāraṇaṃ tu tattvamāropitaṃ nūpaṃ pūrvāparakṣaṇānāmabhedādhyavasāyāt | ato vastuno nūpadvayamasādhāraṇaṃ sāmānyaṃ ca | tatrāsādhāraṇatattvaṃ pratyakṣasya grāhyaviṣaya iti darśayati yadasādhāraṇamityādinā | nanu kimucyate grāhyaviṣaya iti yāvatā kimanyo viṣayo'sti pratyakṣasya | astītyāha dvividha ityādi | yamadhyavasyatīti yaṃ saṃtānanūpeṇa sthitamarthaṃ tatpṛṣṭhabhāvinā vikalpena niścinoti | nanu ca kathaṃ pratyakṣasya saṃtāno viṣayo yato vikalpasyāsau viṣayaḥ | ucyate | upacārāt | pratyakṣavyāpāreṇa vikalpenādhyavaseyatayā,viṣayīkṛtatvātpratyakṣaviṣayaṃ ityucyata upacārādityadoṣaḥ | dvaividhyameva sphuṭayatya anyo hītyādinā | tathānumānamityādinā prasaṅgenānumānasyāpi viṣayadvaividhyaṃ darśayati | svalakṣaṇatvenāvasīyata iti dāhādyarthakriyāsamarthatvenāvasīyata ityarthaḥ | tadetratyādinā pramāṇacintāyāṃ grāhyaviṣayadarśano'yaṃ na prāpyaṃ viṣayamiti darśayati | grāhya eva viṣaye sarveṣāṃ vipratipatteḥ |



 



kaḥ punarasau viṣaya ityādi | evaṃ manyeta | nanu pratyakṣasya svalakṣaṇaṃ viṣaya ityukte sāmānyamapi tasya viṣaya iti tadapi svalakṣaṇaṃ prāpnotīti praśnaḥ | asaṃnidhānaṃ dūradeśāvasthānamiti bruvatā vinītadevasya vyākhyā dūṣitā | tena hyevaṃ vyākhyātaṃ sarveṇa nūpeṇa vastuno'bhāvo'saṃnidhānamiti | etadasaṃgataṃ yasmādvastunaḥ tatrābhāve jñānameva na bhavati | tataśca jñānapratibhāsabheda iti na ghaṭate | yo hītyādinaitaddarśayati | arthakriyāsamarthasyaiva saṃnidhānāsaṃnidhānābhyāṃ sphuṭāsphuṭapratibhāsabhedo na sāmānyasyeti | na sāmānyaṃ svalakṣaṇam | āropitanūyasya dūrāsannābhyāṃ sarvadaivāsphuṭatvāditi | nanu sāmānyameva dūre gṛhyamāṇamasphuṭapratibhāsaṃ na svalakṣaṇamityāha sarvāṇyevetyādi sāmānyasyāvidyamānatvādityabhiprāyaḥ | ataḥ tānyeva svalakṣaṇāni sphuṭāsphuṭapratibhāsīni na sāmānyam | nanu yadi dūrāsannābhyāṃ svalakṣaṇaṃ spaṣṭāspaṣṭapratibhāsaṃ nūpadvayaṃ tasya syāt tataśca nikaṭasthitasya pratibhāsadvayaṃ syāt na ca niyamo dūre'spaṣṭaṃ nikaṭe spaṣṭamiti | ucyate na hi nīlaṃ vastu spaṣṭanūpamaspaṣṭaṃ ca api tu nīlaṃ sādhyārthakriyāsamarthaṃ nīlaparamāṇunūpam | spaṣṭāspaṣṭākārau copādhikṛtau | yadā dūre nīlaṃ paśyati tadālokaparamāṇūnāṃ ca rajaḥparamāṇubhirabhibhūtatvātspaṣṭapratibhāsaṃ jñānaṃ bhavati | nikaṭe tu ālokaparamāṇūnāṃ bahutvānna te rajaḥparamāṇubhirabhibhūtā iti spaṣṭapratibhāsaṃ jñānaṃ jāyate | jñānasya spaṣṭādidvāreṇārthasya spaṣṭāspaṣṭanūpe bhavato na paramārthata iti | sāmānyasya tu jñānadvāreṇa na spaṣṭāspaṣṭanūpe | tena na tatsvalakṣaṇam | nanu tasya viṣayaḥ svalakṣaṇamityuktaṃ tatra yadi pratyakṣasyaiva viṣayo bhavati svalakṣaṇaṃ nānyasyeti tadānumānāderna svalakṣaṇaviṣayaḥ | kiṃ tu pratyakṣasyānyo viṣayaḥ syāt | atha pratyakṣasya svalakṣaṇaṃ viṣayo nānyaḥ | tadānumānasya svalakṣaṇaṃ viṣayo na niṣiddha iti svalakṣaṇaviṣayamanumānaṃ syāditi manyamānaḥ pṛcchati | kasmātpunari tyādinā nānumānasya | vikalpasya viṣayo vāstavo na bhavati | kathaṃ svalakṣaṇaṃ bhavatītyāha tathāhītyādi | yadyapi vikalpasya viṣayo vastu na bhavati tathāpi sa eva svalakṣaṇaṃ dāhādyarthakriyānūpeṇa vyavasāyādityabhiprāyaḥ |



 



tadeva paramārthasaditi | evaṃ manyate | na hāropabalādavastu vastu bhavati sarvasya śaśaviṣāṇādervastutvaprasaṅgāt | vastu tadevānupacaritasvanūpaṃ ataḥ tadeva svalakṣaṇam | nanu vikalpaviṣayo'pyarthaḥ paramārthasanneva | idameva paramārthasattvaṃ nāma yaduta jñāne pratibhāsanam | sāmānyamapi jñāne pratibhāsate tadapi paramārtha saditi manyamānaḥ pṛcchati | kṛsmātpunastadeva paramārthasaditi | arthyata ityādinārthakriyāsāmarthyalakṣaṇatvapadasyārthaṃ vivṛṇoti | tadayamartha ityādinā samudāyasya padānāṃ tātparyaṃ darśayati | evaṃ manyate | yasmādarthakriyāsamarthaṃ paramārthasan tasmānna sāmānyaṃ paramārthasan | dāhādyarthakriyāyāmanupayogāt | na ca pratibhāsabalāttattvamasadrūpasyāpyavidyābalapratibhāsanāt | na ca jñānajanakatvenārthakriyākāritvaṃ tasya jñānasya vināpi sāmānyena vāsanābalātsāmānyaviṣayasyotpatteriti |



 



etasmādityādinānumānasya viṣayaṃ darśayati | tathāhītyādinā pratyakṣaviṣayeṇa saha vikalpaviṣayasya sāmānyasya visadṛśatvaṃ darśayati | kathaṃ punarvikalpasya viṣayo bhavati sāmānyamityāha  samāropyamāṇamiti sakalavahnisādhāraṇatayā sāmānyākārasya saṃvedyatvādityabhiprāyaḥ | so'numānasya viṣayo grāhyanūpa iti grāhyaṃ nūpamasyeti bahuvrīhiḥ | atrāpi grāhyāpekṣayā viṣayo vyavasthāpito na prāpyāpekṣayā tatrāvipratipatteḥ | nanu tatsāmānyamiti napuṃsakaliṅgaṃ prastutya sa ityanena puṃtliṅgena parāmarśaḥ kathamityāha sarvanāmnetyādi | kasmātpunaḥ pratyakṣapariccheda anumānasya viṣayavipratipattirnirākṛtā vārtikakāreṇa nānumānapariccheda ityāha sāmānyalakṣaṇamityādi | evaṃ manyate | yadyanumānaparicchede'numānasya viṣayo vyavasthāpyeta tadā tatraiva granthaḥ kartavyaḥ syāt | ko'sau vānumānasya viṣayaḥ pratyakṣaviṣayādanyaḥ pratyakṣasyaiva ko'sau viṣayo yadapekṣayāyamanyaḥ punarvaktavyaṃ svalakṣaṇamityevamāvartyamāne gauravaṃ syāt | tato lāghavārthaṃ atraivakathitamiti |



 



phalavipratipattiṃ nirākartumāheti | kathaṃ pramāṇasya phale vipratipattiḥ | tathāhi pramāṇaṃ karaṇaṃ pramitikriyāṃ vinā na bhavati yathā chittiṃ vinā na paraśuḥ | tataśca pramāṇātkaraṇātpṛthakphalenārthasaṃpravṛttilakṣaṇena bhavitavyaṃ svātmani kriyākaraṇatvavirodhāt | na hi paraśureva chittiriti | ato mīmāṃsakenendriyaṃ pramāṇamindriyārthasannikarṣaḥ manaindriyasannikarṣaḥ ātmamanaḥ sannikarṣaśceṣṭaḥ sarve sannikarṣāśceti | taduktam |



 



yadvendriyaṃ pramāṇaṃ syātasya cārthena saṃgatiḥ |



manaso vendriyairyoga ātmanā sarva eva vā ||



 



ityarthāvabodhaḥ phalaṃ tatra vyāpārācca pramāṇateti |



 



tadā jñānaṃ phalaṃ tatra vyāpārācca pramāṇatā |



vyāpāro na yadā teṣāṃ tadā notpadyate phalamiti ||



 



tathā pūrvaṃ pūrvaṃ pramāṇamuttaramuttaraṃ phalamiti coktam | tatrāpi buddhijanma pramāṇaṃ pravṛttyādikaṃ phalamiti | tathā naiyāyikādayo'pyevaṃbhūtameva pramāṇaphalamicchatti | idaṃ tvadhikaṃ viśeṣaṇajñānaṃ pramāṇaṃ viśeṣyajñānaṃ phalamiti yathoktaṃ kumārilena |



 



pramāṇaphalate buddhyorviśeṣaṇaviśeṣyayoḥ |



yadā tadāpi pūrvoktā bhinnārthatvanivāraṇeti || 



 



tadeṣāṃ vipratipattiḥ | tāṃ nirākartumāha tadeveti | kathaṃ punararthaparichittinūpaṃ pramāṇasya phalaṃ nārthapravartakādi vijñānamityāha arthasyetyādi | evaṃ manyate | yena phalena niṣpannenānantareṇa pramāṇasya karaṇatvavyapadeśo bhavati tadeva phalaṃ nānyat | arthaparicchedakatvena vijñāna utpanne svaviṣayaniścayajanakatve sati samāpto jñānasya pramāṇavyāpāra iti | arthaparicchittireva phalaṃ na pravartakādikam | amumevārthaṃ darśayatyetaduktamityādinā | pramāṇādarthaparicchittinūpasya phalasya bhinnatvaṃ darśayituṃ pramāṇajñānasya svanūpaṃ prāgdarśitamapi punarapi darśayati prāpakaṃ jñānamityādinā | evaṃ manyate | yasmātprāpakaṃ vijñānaṃ pramāṇamiṣṭamasmābhiḥ tasmātsā ca prāpaṇaśaktirathaparicchittireva nārthādutpattyādikamiti | etadeva darśayati prāpaṇaśaktirityādinā | kasmādarthāvinābhāvitvamātrameva prāpaṇaśaktirna bhavatītyāha vījādītyādi | yato bījādeḥ sakāśādaṅkurasyārthāvabhāsitvotpattirasti na ca bījādikaṃ prāpayati khalavilāntargatasyāpi bījasyāṅkurotpādakatvādityabhiprāyaḥ | tasmādityādinā  jñānasyārthādutpattivyāpārādanya eva pramāṇavyāpāra iti darśayati | pūrvāparayoḥ kṣaṇayorekatvādhyavasāyātprāpyādutpattāvityuktaṃ sa eveti pramāṇavyāpāraḥ | yadyevaṃ prāpaṇaśaktiḥ phalaṃ tarhi nārthaparicchittinūpaṃ phalam | prāpakatvādarthaparichitteranyatvādityāha uktaṃ ca purastādityādi | yadeva prāpakaṃ jñānaṃ tadeva pravartakamarthapradarśakaṃ ca tadeveti purastātsaṃvarṇitaṃ pramāṇasvanūpacintāyām | tataścārthapradarśakameva prāpakaṃ tasya ca prāpaṇaśaktirarthaparicchittireva tāvatā parisamāptatvātpramāṇavyāpārasyeti sthitam | pramāṇasya phalamarthaparicchittinūpameva nānyaditi |



 



yadi jñānasya pramitinūpaṃ phalaṃ jñānāttarhi pramāṇena bhinnena bhavitavyamiti manyamānaḥ pṛcchati yadi tarhītyādinā | arthasānūpyamasya pramāṇamiti etasya vivaraṇaṃ arthena yatsānūpyamityādi | evaṃ manyate | arthasānūpyaṃ vijñānasya pramāṇaṃ nendriyādikamiti | viṣayādutpadyamānaṃ viṣayasadṛśaṃ bhavatīti tadeva sānūpyaṃ sādṛśyamuktamiti darśayati iha yasmādityādinā nanu cetyādi | evaṃ manyate paraḥ | indriyādikaṃ pramāṇamuktamasmābhiḥ tadeva kiṃ bauddhenāpi neṣyate yenārthasānūpyaṃ pramāṇamiṣyate | kiṃ cārthasānūpye pramāṇe'ṅgīkriyamāṇe pramāṇaphalayoraikyānnaikaṃ karma karaṇaṃ bhavatīti yaccoditaṃ tattadavasthameveti |  tadvaśādityādi | evaṃ manyate | pramāṇaṃ karaṇaṃ ca sādhakatamaṃ kārakāṇām | prakṛṣṭopakārakaṃ jñānasya sānūpyameva tadvaśādarthādhigatisiddheḥ nendriyādikaṃ arthasānūpyābhāve'rthapratīterabhāvāditi | amumevārthaṃ darśayati | arthasya pratītiravabodha ityādinā | nīlanirbhāsaṃ hītyādinā nīlākāraṃ nīlavijñānasya nīlāvagamavyavasthāyā nimittaṃ darśayati | yasmānnīlākāre vijñānasyāvagate nīlapratītiravagamyate tasmādarthākāraḥ pramāṇaṃ karaṇadharmatvādasyeti | nanu ca cakṣurādibhyo vijñānamutpadyate viśiṣṭārthamavagacchantyeva | tatkathamarthākārasya prakṛṣṭopakārakatvamityāha yebhyo hītyādi | tatkathayati cakṣurādīnāmapi vijñānotpattau nimittābhāvo'sti | kiṃ tu teṣāṃ sarvajñānotpattiṃ prati nimittatvānna pratiniyatārthavyavasthāpanasya nimittatvam | arthākārasya tvasādhāraṇatvātpratiniyatārthavyavasthāpanaṃ prati nimittatvamiti | tadeva pramāṇam | yattatpareṇa coditaṃ pramāṇaphalayoraikyānna caikaṃ sādhyaṃ sādhanaṃ vā syāditi tatpariharati | na cātra janyajanaketyādinā | syādayamekasya vastuno virodho yadyayaṃ janyajanakabhāvaḥ pramāṇaphalayoḥ sādhyasādhanabhāvaḥ kiṃ tarhi vyavasthāpyavyavasthāpakabhāvaḥ | kuto jñānādhikārāt | yasmājjñāne viśiṣṭa utpanne pratipattrā viśiṣṭo'rtho jñāpyate na tyartha utpādyate | tathā hi nīlākāre vijñāna utpanne viśiṣṭajñānaṃ vyavasthāpayanti nīlajñānamanubhūtamiti na jñānamutpādayati | kiṃcidityādinaikasyaiva vijñānasyāṃśāṃśitayā vyavasthāpyavyavasthāpakatvaṃ darśayati | nanu ca nirvikalpakaṃ jñānaṃ viśiṣṭākāramutpannaṃ kathaṃ tasya samānakāla evāṃśaṃśitayā vyavasthāpyavyavasthāpakabhāvo bhavatīti manyamāna pṛcchati | vyavasthāpyavyavasthāpaketyādinā | sadṛśamityādi |  evaṃ manyate | na vijñānameva nirvikalpakamātmānaṃ vyavasthāpayati kiṃtu pratyakṣapṛṣṭhabhāvinā niścayapratyayena vyavasthāpyate | tatra cārthākārasya vyavasthāpanahetutvamasānūpyavyāvṛttibhedenārthabodhatayā vyavasthāpyasyotpādena vedanasya tu vyavasthāpyatvam | niścayapratyayastu vyavasthāpaka iti amumevārthaṃ darśayati | tasmādityādinā | nanu nīlajñānamutpannaṃ svasaṃvedanapratyakṣasiddhaṃ yadi niścayavaśātpramāṇavyavasthā labhyate tadā yujyate vaktuṃ niścayapratyayena vyavasthāpyata iti yāvatā niścayapratyayaṃ vināpi pramāṇaṃ bhavatyevetyāha niścayapratyayenāvyavasthāpitamityādi darśayati | yāvatpratyakṣaṃ svaviṣaye svātmani niścayaṃ notpādayati na tāvatpramāṇaṃ bhavati ātmavyāpārānirvartanāt | tataścādhyavasāyaṃ kurvadeva pramāṇamiti niścayamapekṣate | nanu yadi niścayaṃ vinā pramāṇameva na bhavati pratyakṣaṃ vikalpasahitaṃ tarhi pratyakṣaṃ pramāṇaṃ syānna kevalaṃ tadanvayavyatirekāditi manyamānaścodayati yadyevamityādinā | naitadevam | 



uṃ niścayapratyayena vyavasthāpyata iti yāvatā niścayapratyayaṃ vināpi pramāṇaṃ bhavatyevetyāha niścayapratyayenāvyavasthāpitamityādi darśayati | yāvatpratyakṣaṃ svaviṣaye svātmani niścayaṃ notpādayati na tāvatpramāṇaṃ bhavati ātmavyāpārānirvartanāt | tataścādhyav
